• Good Morning everyone. I hope all the Mums on here have as good a Mothers day as I did. I was very spoilt. A bottle of Champagne, a bunch of flowers, large box of Rocher chocolates,$100 gift voucher for a sportswear clothes shop, 12mnth subscription to a Health and beauty magazine and a lovely piece of Art work done by Miss P.
Bill @itsagas The seller does say I DO BELIEVE THIS MIGHT BE A BACCARAT BECAUSE THE TOPPER RESEMBLES THEIR UNIQUE DESIGN..ANY COLLECTORS INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED..
Are you going to be the one to burst his bubble ? 😉

  • @itsagas: Thing is that it's not just the "occasional" laugh anymore. Ebay is filling up with more misidentified stuff than you could count. Almost every category is loaded with it.

  • @itsagas Bill, thank you for looking and your comments. I googled repro Burmese glass and found that one common characteristic of repros is swirls in the glass. This piece definitely has swirls of the yellow through the pink. The foot is different from the auction you posted. So I'm guessing I have an Italian (or newer) little Burmese-style vase. For $5 it's cute (and not plastic as I thought when I first saw it).

  • @songbreeze, Gail & @mainewildrose, Sue, thank you for the information on the green vase -- I thought I'd seen it before and U.S. Glass was in the back of my mind.

@itsagas, Bill -- here are some more photos, including several of the bottom. The little vase is about 4-1/2" tall and about 2" diameter. As you will see from the photos of the bottom, it does have an "owie" -- a chip in the ruffled bottom (but it was only $5). https://picasaweb.google.com/write4unj/BurmeseVase032114?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCJ-k882Wt6fAwQE&feat=directlink

  • @itsagas : Looks very Lavender to me, but it's not April Showers. It's Northwood's Tree Trunk.

  • Oh, golly, it's been one thing after another today..... not much chance to get much at home done.

@shellyrae37 SHELLY .... nothing smarter about me. This is day 3 of trying to figure out this new system. Still can't find where my contact email addresses are! Don't have a photo editing software to work with. Still haven't figured how to find a "back" button. Don't know why sometimes I lose all my tabs when I'm just trying to close one tab. I did finally find my favorites today which I thought I'd lost.

@fran2 FRAN ... gee, I don't know what converter I used. It's just that when I tried to open the document it said I would need to download a converter and there was a link that took me to several and I just used the first one on the list. It only worked on my word processing documents. It didn't work on my Excel and I still can't open them. I'll go search the net and see if I can find what I used. ..............Time Out .......... I just checked my downloads and this is what I used. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=12 looking further down I guess I should now do "01" so that my Excel will open. Maybe tomorrow as I'm so tired and sleepy now.

@wjweese WENDY ... yikes...jails and courts...what a bunch of gobbledegook. Turns out she just went before the judge who rattled off some formula that he said to each of the people there...Come back on such and such date, bring a lawyer to enter your plea, if you can't afford an attorney, etc. So we went across the hall and got a several page paper she will have to fill out to request a lawyer then pay $40 to submit the request and wait to find out if she will be approved for a court appointed lawyer. There's more but it's just too much to write or think about right now. 🙁

@itsagas BILL ... I actually like quinoa when it is all spiced/herbed up...and I love yogurt if it's flavored. Think I'll go grab a cherry one right now. 🙂

@jmart8248 IRENE ... Saw those snow rollers on tv news tonight for the first time. What a hoot. Kind of a Northerner's tumbleweed.

  • Got a lot accomplished so far today. Working on glass and have 3 boxes set out for the different malls. Researching, washing, tagging. Also got my State sales tax report done. Going to work on a bit more glass and then plop myself in the recliner and enjoy a movie. 🙂

@itsagas BILL ... the young men who did my snow removal also do my lawn mowing in the summer. Sometimes there dad does it and sometimes they do it. They are very reasonable I think for summer moving so I didn't mind paying what they asked. As far as ears.... I have at least 5 pairs of earmuffs! No way I'm going out in the cold or wind without them!

@shellyrae37 SHELLY ... no way we get as cold as you all do, but the draft coming in through the floor is so bad, I'm heading to the bathroom to get the heating pad the cover my feet with. brrrrrrrr

  • @itsagas Thanks Bill I will. george

  • @shellyrae37 SHELLY .. I managed a 3-hour afternoon nap! Right now, I'm making a pumpkin pie for supper. Yesterday, I believe we were 67° and today we are under an ice storm warning until 6 tomorrow morning. I did all my WalMart shopping early this morning and it was really interesting to see the temps dropping every 20 minutes.

@jmart8248 IRENE M ... thanks for the compliments, I love the little nativity scene. Still have the animals to do.

@itsagas BILL ... makes my teeth grit when I see the price of something I'd have probably walked right past...or if I bought it I'd try for a fixed price of $15 or $20 and consider myself lucky if I got it.

HI to CARL, DON, JIM L, JIM D, BOB in KY, GEORGE, FENTON, and REEN!

  • @itsagas Bill you would find something like that LOL.

  • @itsagas BILL ... that's a new one on me. I looked on-line and in McCain's but had no luck matching up that pattern.

@reen REEN ... lovely tablecloth and love your decorations! And now you have me hungry, hungry, hungry....

@wjweese WENDY ... look forward to seeing your latest crochet project when finished. I'm trying to crochet a "Christmas Creche"...cute little nativity dolls and animals. Harder than I thought so we'll see if I get it done or give up....

HI to DON, GEORGE, and SUZY.

  • @itsagas Bill - I remember as a kid back on the farm standing with my Dad counting a hard of deer that was crossing the road by the treeline south of our house. 2 huge stags stood on either side of the road as the younger & small bucks, does & fawns crossed. It was almost as if they were daring any vehicles to interrupt the crossing. If I remember correct, Dad stopped counting at 50 & they were still coming. We had huge herds roaming the fields & woods in those days.

  • @itsagas : With the glass market the way it is now, there's no such thing as an anywhere near accurate BV on much of anything. I have a 1993-94 BV of the Blue w/Gold Fan Creamer of $150., from Heacock/Measell. No BV in that book for the Blue Butter, but a BV of $175. on a Green w/Gold one. That's about the best I can offer.

  • @itsagas - Bill - I know nothing about your lovely vase but I think the flower might be a sunflower.

  • @itsagas BILL ... sorry, I don't have a clue, but it sure is pretty.

  • @itsagas : I hear ya on the Carnival prices (and on all old glass in general prices). Had a chance the other day to buy a piece at a price that just 3-5 years ago I'd have pounced on. It was a Northwood Carnival Grape & Cable 9" ruffled bowl in Cobalt Blue with nice iridescence. VERY tough to find color for that size & shape. Just 3-5 years ago they were selling in the $225-$275. range. Was offered one in a local shop the other day for $125. I left it there. Doubtful that I could have made anything worthwhile on it now, if anything at all.

  • @itsagas BILL ... lol, yes, it does seems as though he could be correcting his correction. I really do like how he and Paul and Sid really research and stay updated on new information and catalogs and documentation. I want to see if I can copy some of this stuff from Facebook......
Lechner's 2nd Edition corrections and notes
By Brad Gougeon and Chris Kilpack Browning in Antique Glass Salt and Sugar Shakers (Files) · Edit Doc
Page 26 Rib and Swirl - possibly Atterbury but no documentation exists. Same with "Big Owl".
Page 37 Beaded Oval Mirror and Seashell - no documentation that these were made by Challinor-Taylor. Evidence exists that they were made 1905 or later which was 10 years after Factory C burned to the ground.
Page 38 - same for "Horseshoe & Aster"
Page 39 - same for all 4 shakers on this page
Page 41 - "Beads and Bulges" and "Beaded Panel, Vertical" attributed by Lechners to Consolidated but with no documentation
Page 44 - "Daisy, Long Petal" - same
Page 45 - "Distended Sides" now known to be Consolidated's Venecia pattern
Page 45 - "Flower Assortment" no documentation that Consolidated made this
Page 46 - "Half Ribbed" not by Consolidated, maker unknown
Pages 49-52 - several patterns which may or may not be Consolidated. Lechners attributed based solely on color.
Page 69 - "Wild Iris" now documented to have been made by Consolidated Lamp and Glass
Page 75 - "Fern Leaf" aka Single Leaf Swirl - Bonita Glass Co. not Eagle Glass
Page 96 - "Acorn" not by Hobbs, Brockunier.... now known to have been made by Buckeye Glass Co., Martins Ferry, OH
Page 130 - "Barrel, Ringed Neck" questionable that this is by Mt. Washington
Page 131 - "Barrel, Tapered" and "Beaded Necklace" same. Beaded Necklace shown in 1889 Westmoreland Specialty Company catalog.
Page 151- "Scroll and Bulge" illustrated in original 1897 Gillinder ad per Bredehoft and Sanford's Toothpick book.
Page 188 - "Acorn, Little" While Factory C made a similar shaker, the one shown was made by Buckeye Glass Co.
    Page 199 - "Fandangle" documentation?
Page 205 - "Beaded Flower" by Westmoreland
Page 207 - "Bird, Handled" probably by Atterbury & Co. based on the variety of colors in which it can be found
Page 215 - "Coreopsis" now documented to have been made by Consolidated Lamp & Glass
Page 225 - "Fancy Fans" now documented to have been made by Northwood Glass Co.
    Page 229 - "Gibson Girl"
Page 236 - "Leaf Base" possibly by Hocking Glass Co.
Page 237 - "Leaf and Rib"
Page 240 - Oval Panel also known in blue and opal swirl
Page 250 - "Rib, Vertical Optic" part of Venecia pattern by Consolidated Lamp and Glass. Crystal base holder is correct for this pattern and the mold came from the Belmont Glass Co. when they went out of business
Page 256 - "Shell, Three" Consolidated Lamp and Glass
Page 260 - "Tapered Vine" same as page 75 Bonita Glass Co.

  • Good morning, glassies.

@shellyrae37 SHELLY ... I don't like the white spots on the photos where the light is reflected and I don't think the details of the patterns show up as I want them to. Might use them anyway, but not for sure.

@itsagas BILL ... Yes, I have the Lechner's book and originally thought it was by Consolidated. But Brad Gougeon did "corrections and notes" on the books that are posted on Antique Glass Salt and Sugar Shakers Facebook site. He states that both Beads and Bulges AND Beaded Panel, Vertical were attributed by Lechner to Consolidated with no documentation.

Now I posted it on the FB page because my references don't say it was made in this sea foam green. This is what Brad had to say. " ' The attribution to Consolidated may have some basis. It is believed that Nicholas Kopp came up with the formulation for "pigeon's blood red". He worked for Consolidated up to 1899 when he left to form his own company, the Kopp Glass Co. This company then, in late 1901, merged with Pittsburgh Lamp and Brass Co. and Dithridge & Co. to form Pittsburgh Lamp, Brass & Glass Company (sometimes shortened to Pilabrasgo or Pilbrasgo) so it could have been made by any of the three companies he was associated with or.......... another company who copied or figured out the formula required to make this color.' "

HI to WENDY, DON, and CARL!

  • @itsagas BILL ... I have the 12 edition, but didn't know that the after dinner cup was the same thing as a demi-tasse cup. Unfortunately the BV in the 12th ed. is only $40. 🙂

  • @itsagas BILL ... loved the article! This recipe I made had all sorts of ingredients and after I had it all together and tasted it, I thought it was inedible. I went back and tried another wee taste 2 or 3 times. I finally decided if it was suppose to be good for me, I could force myself to eat 1/4 of a cup. After about 10 minutes I decided I could manage a bit more. After that I found about every 10 minutes, I could manage more and it didn't taste so bad....just really strange.

@wattleihavenext JULIE ... thanks, I'd love to try new recipes especially if they are yummy.

@fyrqueen KATIE ... so sorry you are having to deal with thyroid problems. Hope the doctors are able to help resolve the problem soon.

  • Good Morning everyone. The wind has died down, thankfully. But predicted to pick back up again this arvo.
Going to have morning tea with my adorable neice this morning at one of our favourite cafes
Carl @carma you are coming to the end of your tomatoes and mine are just starting to come on. Have about 4 little green ones on one vine and many flowers on the others
Gail @songbreeze I use quinoa a bit. Sounds like your DR has put you on a "diet" very similar to the way I eat. If ever you need some good weight loss recipes that are so GOOD and YUMMY give me a yell and I'll send some to you. My little Miss P Loves Chickpeas
Bill @itsagas Its all in the cooking with quinoa. LOL I'd imagine it to be very bland and yuck just on its own. I have one rcipe here that is a stuffing for a rolled piece of pork. It is so Yummy I have actually used it for a side dish to a meal.
Kate @fyrqueen I hoper you get your thyroid under control soon.
    Julie

  • @itsagas Bill Tom B says you can not tell the difference between the crystal ones but nobody seems to care. I do not spot the Seahoese candy in the Heisey by Imperial booklet but that is not a guarantee.

  • @itsagas : I figured the price on that must surely be considerably more now. That book was a monumental help to Ruby Stain enthusiasts, but it is somewhat confusing & sketchy in the information department. When Bill was completing that book in 1985-86 he was already suffering from the effects of the disease that took his life just two years later. He was easily confused & his thought patterns were becoming disorganized quite rapidly. He called me a couple times during the writing of that book & I ran into him at one of the larger shows in the spring of 1986. He was not in good shape at all. It was very sad to see.

I have no idea who updated the price guides after his passing, but I think it might have been Jim Measell.

  • @itsagas: You must understand that it takes considerable time for Ebay to get these issues fixed. Very difficult & time consuming when your trainee techs only speak Chinese. LOL!

Heacock pictures your exact Mustard, lid & all, in his Ruby Stain book, but really gives no info on the particular piece. The Price Guide I have with that book is the original 1986 guide & he gave it a BV of $65. then with an S (scarce) notation.

  • @itsagas BILL and @fran2 FRAN2 ... I never saw that pattern in my life...and we all know how quirky looking for an ID can be. For a totally unrelated reason, I was flipping through McKearin's American Glass book (which I've only looked at probably twice in all the years I've had it) and there on page 260, plate 99, marked GV-16, is a decanter in the exact same pattern. This is a chapter on Blown Three Mold patterns which they divided into 5 groups.. Groups I, II, III contain Geometric patterns; Group iv, the Arch; and Group V, the Baroque.

  • Good afternoon, glassies. Been off and on the phone with my daughter today. She, her husband, and 2 teenage daughters flew to Munich and then traveled to Amsterdam. Her husband took ill on the day they left the States. Eventually they got a Dutch doctor, but her hubby wanted to wait til they got to France to go to the hospital. Well, they apparently got there in the nick of time. He's apparently got kidney stones. He's at the American Hospital in Paris and they've just done a double-J stent procedure. Will be in the hospital tonight and possibly tomorrow night too. Hopefully he will be on the mend soon and still be able to salvage some of the vacation.

@itsagas BILL ... that sure is a pattern that I'm not familiar with. Very curious about it.

@shellyrae37 SHELLY ... DS does NOT like auctions. She will sometimes go flea-marketing with me, but I'm on my own at auctions...which really suits me. I prefer to do auctions by myself. DS is coming over later to help me unload the car.

HI to MARSON, FRAN 2, GEORGE, and FENTON!

  • @itsagas BILL and @george GABLA . LOVE the novelty. My 2003 copy of Sanfords' book shows it on page 187. What a neat thing to find! BV is $175-$200. and yes...it appears 3-sided in the book. Man, you are lucky!

  • @itsagas Bill interesting. They are apparently referencing Jo & Bob Sanford's "Victorian Glass Novelties" but I do not fine the holder in my edition of course I could have missed it or they are using a different reference book.
    Neat piece.

  • @itsagas BILL ... I'm not familiar with that pattern. I searched all over and I just can't find a match for it.

  • @itsagas : The kicker there that will lead to problems is condition #4, specifying a "same-day" handling time cut off of 11AM or later Pacific Time..........that's 2PM on the east coast. So if you're out on the road or not right at your computer & someone buys something at or near that cutoff time, & there's no way you can meet the same day handling, then Ebay will claim you did not meet the criteria & there goes your additional 10 FVF discount.

Ebay seems to be really starting to push this same day handling & shipping. It's VERY un-realistic for anyone to expect that. No one sits at their computer 24/7 just waiting for a sale so they can jump right up & ship it immediately. I buy lots of stuff from a variety of VERY large companies & not one of them offer same day handling & shipping. It's simply not possible to do it in most circumstances.

  • Good morning, glassies. Hope everyone is doing well this morning.

@itsagas BILL ... that really is quite an incredible lamp. You gave it a good fight. Hopefully later down the road you will find another and at a reasonable price too.

@carma CARL ... I feel your pain at the cost of car repairs. When I have a bill like that I always think how much glass I could have bought instead. I'm waiting to get slapped with all the medical/lab/hospital bills I'll have added up by mid-August. 😮

Trying to finish my last crocheted blanket...will probably take 2 or 3 more days. Then I think I'll retire the crochet hooks for a while. 😀 I've got to get busy with listing glass again.... I listed one item yesterday and that was probably the first thing I've listed in a month. I almost dread thinking of selling something because it will require packaging it and emailing confirmation to the buyer and getting it to the post office, etc.

HI to AMBER, DON, GEORGE, MARSON, SHARON, REEN, IRENE M, and FRAN2!

  • @itsagas Bill, That certainly is an interesting lamp.Looks like it is all coming together for you.

  • Morning all: I just tried to get on the PGP board also. Thanks Bill @itsagas for the info. Will keep me from retrying for a while. LOL

  • Good morning, glassies.

@reen REEN … are you busy with your neighbor’s yard sale today? Hope the weather is good for you all.

@itsagas BILL … 400K listings is just ridiculous! What numbskull came up with that idea!

@wattleihavenext JULIE … sounds like a splendid birthday dinner and I know you all had a wonderful celebration.

@carma CARL … glad to hear you are getting a couple of days of decent weather. So far this week our temps have been 95, 95, 95, 94, 97…Heat index yesterday was 105. I think today we are a bit cooler….89 but with high humidity so the heat index will still be in the high 90s.

@amber1986 AMBER … great minds think alike! I spent all afternoon yesterday surfing ”free crochet patterns”. Terrific to have so much available on the internet.

@fyrqueen KATIE … Lyme’s Disease? sure sorry to hear you are ill. Hope the antibiotics take effect right away.

@10bbg10 HELEN … I slaved all day to ID the phurba! 😆 ROTFLOL 😆 Actually it took about 3 minutes. I googled ”3-sided knife” and then hit the ”IMAGES” tab… paged down one time and there they were. Now you know my secret. 🙂

@donscns DON … sounds like a wonderful time you all are having with what will be wonderful cherished memories. Hope you and GEORGE will have a chance to get together.

Well, today is my museum volunteer day. Since the museum is only 3 blocks away and is wonderfully airconditioned and absolutely quiet, it is even more restful than my house. The most work that has to be done is just me getting myself ready and presentable to go. 😀 I take my crochet and a magazine and just relax for the next four hours.

  • @itsagas: On our Hummingbirds, so far I can account for 2 females & 3 males here this year. One day last week, we had two males & two females taking turns at the feeder, when a third male showed up, only to be repeatedly driven off by the other two males. Don't know if he's a loner or if there's a female with him.

  • Bill @itsagas I think this is a lot stronger and better then vinegar. I know Dh used to use vinegar and a few other ways to clean his antique tools at some stages. But when he was put onto using molasses he continued using that , said it was a lot easier with less elbow grease
    Thanks Gail @songbreeze
    Julie

  • Forgot to mention I was doing a very happy dance last night . My Biscuit tin ended very well.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360664723294?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1561.l2649

Bill @itsagas I have no idea if it was sulfured or Unsulfured. He used to buy it at an agriculture store, mixed it with water in a big tub and would soak all the very old brass(which had gone very very black) tools in it for a few days. I don't know the ratio of molasses to water. But I do know that if its too strong or you leave the items in for too long, they will be eaten away. I remember the trials and errors when he first started using it. LOL I tell you what!!! it worked well with getting all that gunk off them. Then with Very fine steal wool and a wash under the tap, a bit of a buff with some metal polish and they would shine like new.No hard scrubbing and polishing
    Julie

  • Mahnin'All: Cloudy, drizzly & much cooler here this AM than it's been all week. Will be heading down to Westbrook in a couple hours to get DW's new car.

@itsagas : No, she's not trading in the Escort. With a BV of only $950. on it, they really are not going to give her much of anything on it. One of her senior boys who will be graduating next month is really interested in it. He has a summer job lined up & needs a car. He's in the auto mechanics class at school & can do any needed work on it himself. So, DW is going to offer it to him for somewhere around $600.-$700., which is far more than the dealership would allow on it for a trade-in. And, it's just what the kid needs to get himself back & forth to work this summer: good, basic, economical transportation.

  • @itsagas BILL ... actually I have to admit what you said is too true. The only thing holding me here is my sister. Summer can be brutally uncomfortable.

  • Good morning, glassies.

@carma CARL & @itsagas BILL ... The weather reports sound just awful. I can't imagine having to deal with all that cold and snow. There's probably not enough prozac in the world to see me through a Northern winter. ugh ugh ugh

I need to put down the coffee cup and get out of this chair and start accomplishing something around the house. Nah... think I'll refill my coffee cup instead.

HI to DON, LIZ, and GEORGE!

  • @itsagas Bill: The link was working OK. It was showing the candy dish because the auction was closed. The candlewick piece is in the upper right corner of the page and you have to click on it to go to the closed auction.

Unique is when I only have one for sale.

  • I'm still glued to the tv and the coverage in Watertown.

@rousemark LOUIS ... love the definition of scarce and rare! 😆

@itsagas BILL ... confused as your first post was a red Paneled Grape Candy dish and then your second post was a red Candlewick....?

HI KATIE, LAURIE, FENTON, BOB, JULIE, and DIANE!

    Back to the tv set.........

  • @itsagas : I'd call that Vase Helios Green.

@rousemark : Pretty much the same with me. I'm not doing a whole lot on glass now. Same reason, as you say, the bottom has pretty much dropped out of the old glass market except for very high end rarities. And you sure can't find enough of those to make a living on. I'll keep my license & tax # active for a few more years & do a little here & there, but I'll be 65 in 3 months, so I'm kind of "semi-retired" now anyway. There are no worthwhile shows around anymore to sell at, mall booths have gotten outrageous up here for rents & fees, and with the long distances between them, you'd burn up what little profit you might make in gas keeping them stocked. At this point & age, I'm not going to spend 24/7/365 doing that rat-race. It was worth it 15-20 years ago, but not now.

  • Thanks Bill @itsagas I will pass that on.
    Julie

  • Good Morning everyone. A crisp morning here with a bit of fog
Don @donscns Thanks for your help. Yes they do look very similar but Jenny's I think is cased
Shelly @shellyrae37 I asked Jen last night to get back to me with measurements and also a pic of the base.
Gail @songbreeze Thanks for looking You have more of an idea then me LOL
Bill @itsagas Thanks also for your input on Jenny's pitcher.Looks like we are getting closer to an ID. With all those leads I will do some research later on today
BTW would my friends pitcher be Amberina or Beachblow
    Julie

  • @itsagas BILL ... the second link worked and wow! sure enjoyed looking at all those vases!

@shellyrae37 SHELLY ... Sure is grand that you found that Steuben vase. You going to eBay it?

@fyrqueen KATIE ... I love seeing all these different shapes of glass that I never seem to find around here. But the more, I see new things on the glass forums, maybe I'll be able to recognize them later when I go treasure hunting.

Hope my sister gets over here soon because I'm hungry .... 😀

  • Just finished cooking a pork roast with a cranberry and orange sauce. Having candied yams and peas. Sister is bringing over cherry cheesecake brownies. We will have supper and then watch the Celebrity Apprentice. 🙂

@glassusa BOB ... Sorry, but I know zero about paperweights.

@itsagas BILL ... I couldn't get that link for the Steuben to work for me.

@shellyrae37 .... lovely stemware and vase!

  • @itsagas : Diamond & Oval Thumbprint by Jefferson, circa 1904. (aka Jefferson #228).

  • Good morning, glassies.

@itsagas BILL ... between you and CARL, I just shudder at your weather reports. What a nightmare! I really just can't imagine living under such conditions.

Being lazy today. Watching the inauguration on tv. Going to make brownies to take to our evening religious education class. Suppose I should try listing something. I've a ton of stuff here at home, but just get bored doing it all by myself. More fun to chat about glass with others on-line. 🙂

    HI to DON and GEORGE!

  • Good afternoon, glassies. Spent the morning getting warming water bowls and heavy-duty outdoor extention cords for my outdoors furkids and getting it all set up. Had to saw a small hole in the door and wall to get the cord through. Front yard cat is happy and back yard dog is happy. Spent the afternoon taking photos. I'm finally pleased with most of them, but now I'm too tired to continue trying to list. 😀

@itsagas BILL ... glad that info could help. The pictures were too small for me to see the difference between the Bubble Optic and the Honeycomb. Couldn't tell from your picture if the vase were cased glass.

HI to CARL, DON, SHELLY, and GEORGE!

  • @itsagas BILL ... I see the #1721 pinch vase in several areas of the "Fenton Art Glass Patterns: 1939-1980" Whitmyer book. Made in Crest Patterns and Bubble Optic/Honeycomb pattern and probably more. I apologize that I'm just way too tired to go through the whole book tonight. Perhaps someone will know right off the bat. They have a green satin overlay in the Honeycomb pattern on page 242, but I need to do a lot more looking and reading.

  • @itsagas BILL ... I've checked high and low in all my references and I can't locate that creamer. Thought it would be easy with that distinctive handle, but no luck.

  • Good Morning. The cooler weather continues, and with a little bit of rain,so I am a happy chappy LOL
I am off to visit Mum today. She was taken to hospital on Friday. She has become very weak and was having trouble walking. She is in the best place with 24/7 care. Aged Care was coming yesterday to do an assessment and from there we will be able organise the appropriate Nursing Home and care for her.
    @carma glad you are prepared
@itsagas Bill Loved the pics. Make sure you post them when I am sitting here whinging about the 40+Celsius temps LOL
    Julie

  • @itsagas BILL ... the only winter sport I like, is trying to get to my car to get to an antique mall. Preferably, I do not have to forge through a foot of snow to do so. 🙂

  • Good morning, glassies.

@donscns DON ... Same weather here...woke up to temps in the 20s but we aren't suppose to reach more than mid-30s today. Will warm up in a couple of days though, and the sunshine is glorious.

@itsagas BILL .... I couldn't bear it, all that snow. Definitely not for me.

@george GEORGE ... I haven't been able to get into GPSA. Are you having any problems?

HI to CARL, AMBER, MARYMELODEE, KATIE, BOB, and LAINEY!

  • Bill @itsagas I have never had any problems either going from one system to another. My first computer was Windows 98, next was ..I can't remember LOL maybe XP I honestly can't remember and now I have Windows 7
Shelly @shellyrae37 I am wondering why teeth extraction was a requirement for radiation? Have known quite a few that's had radiation treatment and none of them had to have their teeth removed. But all cases are all different and all require individual assessment and individual treatment. Each patient is totally different to the other, even if they have the same type of cancer in the exact same spot.

  • Just finished watching a PBS special on Chihuly. Rather overwhelming!

@ohiostar FENTON ... thanks for looking and helping me turn in the right direction.

@itsagas BILL ... thanks for all the information and that was a grand article on the C.F. Monroe Company. I definitely bookmarked it. I did a search on eBay and Ruby Lane for Kelva and some things have lids and some don't but obviously something was attached to this piece...wondering if it had little handles. I'm having the same trouble with google search for Kelva +inkwell that BOB in KY has ... too many returns but none are correct. If I try "kelva inkwell" there are no returns. I'm really thinking this was was a little pin dish that had handles because all those that had lids had a longer hinge attachment in back. This just has the 2 little oval pieces that are the same.

  • Bill @itsagas & George @george Yes I suppose that is the way to go. Will email the bloke and see how he wants to go about making the purchase. I suppose I will charge him the same price as what he paid for the first one he bought from me plus postage. He may even prefer to direct deposit into my bank account, which would suit me better
    Julie

  • @itsagas BILL ... I let them know about the keyword for the etch and they added it.

  • @itsagas BILL ... I sure missed this when I searched ChatAbout yesterday. I was using Etch +Nude and nude is not in the keywords for that etch. Glad you found it...sure was a new one on me.

  • Good Morning everyone. Temps are suppose to reach 36° Celsius here today.
Shelly @shellyrae37 Yes I was the one taking pics 🙂
Gail @songbreeze I hope you do well at the auction
Bill @itsagas Maybe this site might help http://www.bigashtray.com/
Toby @abzoid Beautiful and a tiny little tinkle ,not bells, just a little tinkle LOL that I have seen that somewhere before or maybe just something similar.

  • @itsagas BILL may be a wild-goose chase, as I can't find that exact ashtray, but it sure looks like the LE Smith color Bittersweet sold under both the Smith label and the Fayette label.

  • @itsagas BILL ... my first thought is LE Smith. I'll check and see if I can find anything.

  • Good morning, glassies. Got up a bit earlier today and hopefully will get some work done today. Another 85° day with lots of wind.

@itsagas BILL ... Carl, this will send Bill an email so he will see your comment in case he wasn't going to check the board until later.

Hi to CARL, REEN, and DON

  • @itsagas : The Carnival Glass shipped in barrels was packed with straw. Most glass factories had a "hayshed" where the straw was stored.

Stories about people finding or having original sealed barrels full of Carnival Glass have been circulating ever since people started collecting it 50-60 years ago. Here in the northeast there was a popular story about someone in NH that had a barn packed to the rafters with Carnival, much of it in original barrels. There was another story about someone here in Maine, in a backwoods town, who owned an old, long boarded up general store, the cellar of which was full of old barrels full of Carnival Glass. There are dozens more such stories from all parts of the country. Thing is, whenever someone made a serious effort to varify these stories, the situation begins to get very vague & numerous "excuses" start popping up: "The barn burned down & all was lost"; "The guy died & his heirs had the old store bulldozed, glass & all"; "The barrels were all rotting so he unpacked the glass, sold it & threw the rotting barrels in the landfill", etc, etc. There's always a "fly in the ointment". That's because all of these stories are nothing more than wishfull, romantic fantasizing. In the 42 years I've been involved in Carnival Glass not a single one of these stories have ever been confirmed. Not a single original barrel full of Carnival has ever been documented as being owned by any collector in the hobby. If ANY of these stories were true, then surely in all these years there would be one of these barrels in the hands of a serious collector. But, there are none.

  • Bill @itsagas My thinking is, you can start high and enthusiastic, you just never know LOl Andf you can always come down in price when a shopper is haggling BUT you can't go up in price LOL. My saying when I see someone with something I think is way over priced is "Tell 'em they're dreaming son" In my best Michael Caton voice from the Aussie movie "The Castle" Hilarious Aussie comedy LOL But not sure Americans would appreciate our sense of humour or even "get it" LOLAnd the hilarious thing is, we all know of characters just like it, in real life LOL

    Bob @glassusa WTG!!!

  • @itsagas Bill - that's the one ! Picked up for a buck, fairly clean piece - minimal scratches on face. Trying to find maker and any other info that may be available.

Glassies - back home with a BH who threw out her back loading truck plus my hip feels like a red hot ice pick is imbedded in it. Gotta love the ice packs - both of us are keeping the freezer busy.

  • @itsagas : Yup! Wasn't the business fun back in those days before antique malls & the internet? Everything was done "one on one", everyone knew everyone else in the business & the coffee pot was always on.

  • @itsagas BILL .... according to eapgpatterns.com, Unknown maker, called POPPY aka FEATHER POPPY, ca. 1890-1900

  • @itsagas Bill, I was afraid of that. I have removed the word 'Aurene' from the title. I may be dumb and willing to show that dumbness here but don't want to show it to the whole ebay world.
@shellyrae37 -- Shelly my daughter found it in a Salvation Army store.
Thanks to all of you for being so gracious with your help.
    Helen in Indy

  • @itsagas Bill, I have been unable to get back to that same page. The asking price was $400.00. I'll make some pictures tomorrow morning so you can get a look at it. It is a thing of beauty and well marked.
    Helen in Indy

  • Good morning, glassies.

@itsagas BILL ... Sorry, I'm no help. My first thought was Heisey's #5067...and though close, I can't find it with as long a stem as yours.

    HI to DON, AMBER,and GEORGE!

  • Bill @itsagas - Fostoria called the etch Paradise when not iridized, produced in green and orchid. When iridized it was called Victoria, only listed as being made in crystal.

If you have a green iridized it's a non-catalog item.

  • Good morning to all of my glassie friends,
Been up for over and hour. Always in need of catching up on some chores that can be done on the computer.
Having one of the last of our peaches. Delicious!!!
Had a nice rain on Monday-- probably 1 1/4 inches or more. Nice sunny day yesterday. DH had appointment with urologist for a medical procedure. Had to have DGD deliver me to the dentist for my partial plate pre-fitting . DH picked me up. Nice to have family close for such things.
@itsagas ----Bill, pretty carnival glass vase.
@sellingthings Marty, who do you think you are kidding when you mention your BH having you on a glass buying budget----- or for that matter having you on a diet? Guess I could say ' break a leg.' Isn't that the traditional theater Good Luck" greeting? Instead , if your wife really wants to slow you down tell her to 'break your hip'. That is what did it for me. No more church sales, garage or estate sales. I gave up auctions for Lent some 10 years ago. And have been inside a thrift store only once since coming home from rehab.
And --- @reen --- Auctiva will give telephone number only if you pay that $5.99 per month for that service.

  • @itsagas Bill - can you point me in the right direction to get BV's ? Are they available online?

  • @itsagas Bill - that is it !!! I think I may have hit on one - paid 2 bucks for this box : Cheese dish, large compote, small candy jar & water glass.
    Thank you very much !!!!

  • Hi All,

@shellyrae37 - I had no clue either, but like I said I use Stamps.com. I just wasn't going to ship the thing under my name.

@wattleihavenext - No Problem, I got it and will get a card off to her, mail that isn't a bill is worth it's weight in gold. Miss P must be getting really big, and If I remember right isn't there another on the way? Someday I hope I will have a little grand one running around.

@charper99 - I don't have any complaints on the shipping charges. I will never ever mark anything fragile. Had it out with the postmaster one time about that, I won he lost.

@itsagas - Are You talking about my yellow basket over on RL(LOL) I see Leah has helped you out.

@songbreeze - Also see Leah has helped you.

@fryqueen - Sorry can't help on vase, and Allergies really bite this year. Though I have found mucinex has helped with my claritin.

@goodwinantiques - Thanks for the basket education. I will send pictures of my basket (mine is a ugly bright yellow(LOL))when I have an extra few minutes.

@baabaamson - just get a full size keyboard and plug it into the laptop.

    Bear 🙂

  • Finished my errands and have been trying to list and relist stuff.

@itsagas BILL .. Lovely basket and not a clue for an ID. Hope you won't mind me jumping on your band wagon too. Your basket is MUCH prettier than mine, but they both have thorn handles and I'm hoping if someone knows yours then they will know mine. I don't care if mine winds up being from China...would just like to know so I can place it in the mall.

  • Good Morning everyone. Weather is just DDG today. Spring is just around the corner, you can feel it in the air.
Bill @itsagas WTG!! on your pitcher it is DDG.
Marty @sellingthings for what its worth, I second Gails ID on your swan. I did have a site bookmarked but for the love of me I can not find it.
    Julie

  • @glassusa BOB ... thanks so much. There were over 700 sugars on chat about. I had tried searching for ring +circle +sugar with no luck...that's because circle doesn't wind up being one of the keywords. So appreciate that you were able to find it for me. Thanks.

@itsagas BILL ... oh, my word, what a GORGEOUS pitcher!

HI to HELEN, TOBY, MARTY, and KATIE!

  • Bill @itsagas - Your pitcher is Blown Twist made by Northwood and by West Virginia Glass, 1892-1905. Nice piece! Book value is $1000.

  • Hello all...

@itsagas Bill: I have never figured out how to navigate the PG&P board, and I don't think I have the patience to start now, but thanks for suggesting it. I would always love to know the makers of the pieces I have, mostly to have an accurate listing when selling, but when I know I am going to keep it, the maker isn't quite as important to me.

@songbreeze Gail....it is a neat piece! You just missed seeing it in person by a day...lol. Oh yeah, I'll get right on those candlestick pics 😉 Have to go mow my moms lawn today, and ours and a neighbors tomorrow....busy busy week for me.

  • Home from my Joplin trip. It was 110° when I drove back into town at 6:00 pm.

@itsagas BILL ... thanks for the information on the Favrile and Aurene. Really appreciate it.

@baabaamason BOB in KY ... terrific sale! That just makes it all so much fun. Bravo! I LOVE the hunt!

HI to all glassies! Must go get a big glass of ice water and unpack my purchases. Need to tag some stuff as I have to go to the Ketchum mall tomorrow to settle up.

  • @donscns and @itsagas Thanks . The publisher is V LIPTTOVSKOM SV MIKULASI . The location is Naldladom vydavateefskeho a knihkupuc Tranoscius. The SV MIKULASI translates to St. Nicholas. I think it is a book of poetry.

  • @itsagas How dare you say those little moose are not cute? LOL What are baby moose called besides baby moose?

  • @shellyrae37 SHELLY ... CONGRATULATIONS on a wonderful sale! 😀 I don't plan to put the King's Crown on eBay. They are heavy and offering free shipping on heavy items is a bummer. I think they will sell just as well in the malls. I'll put the 2 Indiana ones in one mall and the 4 Tiffin ones in another. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but all Pressed glass is Stained, Blown glass is Flashed....

@suzy SUZY ... you know I could sit and stare at your glass all day long. I feel so lucky that I've had the opportunity to see it all in person. It is just be-still-my-heart gorgeous.

@itsagas BILL .. oh my word, where do you live to see a fox? Terrific that he stayed in place for you to be able to take pictures.

HELLO to REEN, KATIE, FRAN2, HELEN, MARSON, GEORGE, MARYMELODEE, AMBER, MARTY, & MIM.

  • Just got home from running Gail’s taxi service. Plan on going to an auction later this evening. No special auction…just a little local one held ever 2 weeks.

@mainewildrose SUE … Thank you ever so much! I was thrilled to see an ID for my little nappies. Can’t find them in my HMW Fostoria: First Fifty Years book. Did see them now that you ID’d them on eapgpatterns. Can’t seem to locate any kind of market value for them. Super that Debbie was able to snag the ruby-stained one. Thanks again for the ID.

@itsagas BILL … thanks for the link. I enjoyed reading the article.

  • @oklahomasong_Gail and @itsagas, thanks so much for making the ID on my green bowl. No doubt that you're right that it's the Anchor Hocking Forest Green Splash Proof Mixing Bowl. That's one more out of the mystery section, thanks to you all!

  • @sellingthings MARTY ... ditto what @itsagas BILL said... nothing appears. I click on Selling and it just takes me to my regular Selling Manager page.

@shellyrae37 SHELLY So how will it work? Say you list 50 items...and pay the insertion fee. You get really lucky and sell one item for $1,000 and one item for $2,000 and one item for $500. Do you then have to delete the remaining 47 items for the month??????????

  • Good morning, glassies. Talk about heat waves! We've been in the 90s for the past couple of weeks and are expected to break 100 by the end of the week. Last summer we had 44 days of 100+ weather.

@itsagas BILL & @pareidolia SUSAN ... I thought it sure looked like Forest Green to me too and after searching my wee Jenkins book, I went to both Florence's Kitchen book and to his Anchor Hocking book....but with no luck. That bowl you found if not the same size surely looks like the same shape.

HI to NANCYP, DON (how's the eyelid?) FRAN2, JANICE, & GEORGE!

  • @itsagas BILL ... Thanks! That's a handy site.

  • Bill @itsagas Thanks . I thought it was leaving something off the end but could not remember what.

  • @itsagas : About the only information on Dugan Art Glass out there is what's on Dave Doty's site, The Loetz.com site and in Heacock/Measel's book on Dugan Glass. And it isn't much. There is just very limited information on it known. If the person who posted that on the PG&P board simply checks those three sources, they'll have just about as much information as is available.

I looked at your iridescent bowl. My best guess, based on what I could see, is that it's likely Dugan/Diamond. The only ones that made an Amethyst "stretch" of that dark a shade are Dugan/Diamond & Vineland and it really doesn't llok much like Vinelands stuff. Northwood, Fenton & U.S.Glass all made Amethyst Stretch, but usually in a much lighter shade, more like a Wisteria or Lavender tone.

  • @itsagas BILL ... years back someone had asked for an ID on a beautiful black lustrous looking vase... It had a Cambridge label but it turned out to be this Super Glass Company http://www.cambridgeglass.org/articles/superglass.php

  • Well, I did, indeed, go back to sleep…twice. Finally a friend came by and needed help putting a vehicle on Craig’s list, so spent the afternoon setting them up accounts, etc. and getting it listed.

@itsagas BILL … A SWAG on my part, but reminds me of Diamond’s Egyptian Lustre. Also another SWAG ringing somewhere in the back of my brain was something about Cambridge and a Super Glass Company......

@wattleihavenext JULIE … I can well imagine the mess of having to lay stuff all over the place to get it to dry out. Good luck.

  • Good Morning everyone. still raining here. Yard is one big mush. Inside of house is a pigsty because I am sorting all the wet stuff from the weekend as well as sorting and packing more items for the Antique Show end of month.
Reen @reen What a thoughtful Dh to bring you home something special .
Carl @carma sounds like lots of fun going through your containers. Dh had a nice collection of padlocks. I sold some on ebay and did well and others went to the Swapmeets. Lots of interest in them down here. Also Old Keys seem to be popular too.
Marty @sellingthings Good luck at that GS
Bill @itsagas beautiful bowl but I know nothing.
    Julie

  • @itsagas: I'd love to be able to do that too & have considered it. But, there's only one lawn maintenence company in the area, in Rumford, 15 miles away. We called them once to see how much it would cost. They will come out here, but wanted $50. per week and that was when gas was around $1.75-$2.00 a gallon. I'm sure they would want considerably more than that now. One season at those rates would equal close to what the new tractor cost. So, I figure the first season just about pays for the tractor & all the rest of the years I get out of it are gravy. I've got about an acre of lawn & it only takes me about 2 hours on average.

  • @itsagas BILL ... oh my, I am soooo glad you saw that! Thanks... correcting it right now.

  • @itsagas Bill I think it might be magnesium oxide that makes it glow orange, but not positive.
