Julie--The cream and sugar strikes me as older than Arcoroc, but I don't know. I guess I'm sticking it in the mall for $10. Pretty sure I still have that other identical one at closer to $20. But I have 3 malls.
Shelly--There are several differences in the Federal bowls. The ribbing is slightly narrower, the base is closer to a perfect square without the cut off corners, and the top of the ribs is a straight line vs the scalloped effect on the Hocking bowls.
Doctors love it when you request a change in treatment due to something you saw on TV. LOL Prilosec isn't really meant to be taken for long periods of time though. It will cause a severe vitamin B12 deficiency in addition to the kidney trouble. The stuff does wonders for me, but I've never taken it more than 2 weeks at a time, which is in the instructions on the OTC version. -

Marson--The green bowl I know, but not the cream and sugar. The bowl is Hocking. There are similar ones, but the Hocking bowls will have a basically square base that's chopped off at the corners, i.e. 8 sided with 4 long sides and 4 short sides at the corners.

Check out this minor (but funny) tale of woe. My local thrift store had a sign saying "Buy one item of glassware and get 50% off the second piece of glassware." So I found this green depression mixing bowl and blue opal cream and sugar, marked $4.49 ea.
https://dl.dropbox.com/s/u4yk5dkes3mkq19/DSC00643.JPG?dl=0
When I pointed out to the cashier that one should be 50% off, she said "Oh, that's only on glassware." So I start banging on the stuff and say "Well, what are these?" She explains that "glassware" means something that you can drink out of, like tumblers or stemware. Then she calls up a manager who tells me the same thing. I said "Well, I thought I've been a dealer of glassware for the last 20 years, but I guess I've had it all wrong." I bought both at full price, but it does kind of stick in my craw. By the way, anybody know what the cream and sugar really is? I think I've had one of the same for years, yet now I've bought another one.

Bob--My laptop won't charge until it drops below 96%. I leave mine plugged in except when I take it downstairs to print something. If I unplug it for 5 or 10 minutes it will say 98 or 99% and not charging. You should run it down to 6% at least once every few months according to my manual, but you don't have to run it down every time.
My last laptop got to where it wouldn't charge past 98%, then 97%, and it kept creeping down to where it would only take 90%. I bought a new battery, but I really don't think it's worth worrying about if you keep it plugged in most of the time. -

Speaking of early spring, I'm pretty sure this is the first time EVER we've harvested anything from the garden in March. We haven't even thought about planting yet, but the perennial green onion shoots are up about 6"-7". So I clipped off a few, chopped them up and put them in a pan of chicken and gravy. Throw in a handful of peas and pour it over a pile of mashed potatoes, and you're all set.

Shelly--I put all 4 in one lot at $99.99. Interest seems shockingly low so far. On the plus side, I just sold my 4 Waterford Lismore snifters I listed on Ruby Lane only a couple of days ago. I put a pretty low end price on them, but at $100 on a $12 investment I'm happy.

Carma--Yeah, but at least it gives you SOME indication of value. It's a good bet that the clarets will be harder to find than the tumblers that they price about 1/4 as much. And just try finding some pink clarets for sale elsewhere. I couldn't.

Take a look at this Replacements page and see what they want for pink Cambridge Caprice clarets. I was pretty happy to find 4 of these at a local thrift yesterday. Been back there twice already looking for more, but no go. If I can get 15 or 20% of their price I'll be very happy.

Shelly--I have 3 thrifts that I hit almost daily, 3 more that I go to pretty often, and several more that I go to occasionally. The Fenton stuff came from one on my daily route. I can go to the 2 that open at 9:00 and usually have time to stop at the post office or make a quick grocery buy and still get to the thrift that opens at 10:00 by the opening bell. I can do all that with an 8 mile drive. The other thrifts aren't any better or worse, just farther away.

Nice buys at the thrift store today. I freaked out when I saw this tall Fenton Topaz Hobnail basket. A pretty scarce piece with book prices around $150. Sadly, they don't seem to be getting a $75 bid on ebay. Also got a Fenton dealer sign in green opal glass. $2.49 for the sign and $10.49 for the basket, yet they had $8.49 on one of the most common pieces of Fenton Milk Hobnail.

Got my mortgage refinanced and closed on it yesterday. I must have been the last person in the country paying on a 7 percent mortgage. For years I figured with my meager self employment income, and my DGF going in and out of part time work that we couldn't refinance. But by now my equity is so high and my payment history is so good, that we were able to refi with the same outfit at 4 1/2 percent. Still above the going rate, but it's no closing cost, low documentation, and no appraisal. It's a done deal and our payments went down by $170/mo.

Gail--Ebay or Amazon is the place to buy any type of electonic cable or accessory. When I bought my bluray player a few years ago, I was expecting to hook it up with some of the vast accumulation of cables I already have. No, it could only use an HDMI cable and I didn't have one. I had to run right back to the store and pay over $20 for an HDMI cable. That cable went bad about a year later, and I replaced it with one from ebay for less than $3. I just bought another 12ft HDMI cable so I could connect my laptop to the TV from across the room, and that was $4.49. Got it in 3 days, too. Of course I know sometimes you have to print right now.

JimL--I gave up on cable over 20 years ago, and never went back. Every time you turn around it's another dollar here and another dollar there. I think Netflix is a pretty good value. I get the 3 discs at a time by mail for $15.99/mo and streaming for another $7.99/mo. It doesn't do anything for your broadcast channel reception, but between the dvd's and the streaming I can always find something to watch.

Anyone know if you print a label through Paypal that's not an ebay sale, whether there's any discount? I've printed a couple of Ruby Lane sales since the increase, but I haven't noticed one way or the other. I suppose I could figure it out from my Paypal page and the USPS site.

Wow, looks like the post office is really determined to eliminate internet sales. I knew they just jacked up prices again, but I just now saw that they seemed to have eliminated the online click-n-ship discount. Just went to print a label for a 3 lb package to GA. $11.35 retail and $11.35 click-n-ship. I tried several other lookups and they all revealed the same sad story.

Shelly--I had the feeling from the similarity of the style of the items, that it was a legitimate collection. The guy who ran the sale does a lot of high end sales. He's big on pottery, doesn't care about glass. But he has people working for him who really know glass. He's had a lot of "put together" sales, and he rents a big warehouse space for those, so I doubt he switched to renting a house.

Check out the high end art glass at this sale: http://www.estatesales.net/MN/Minneapolis/55449/1076337 Just got back from it and left with nothing, which was about what I expected. The big Tiffany and Steuben pieces were $1000 to $2000. All the Cambridge Nudes were gone, except for the Crown Tuscan compotes, and those were $85. One thing I saw in the pics that I thought might be a bit of a sleeper was the Ruba Rombic candleholders, but I didn't see those. (I didn't get there til 10:00) I had already been to another sale that had quite a bit of stuff that was more in my wheelhouse, and I left with nothing there too. Stuff was just priced to the moon, mostly too high to buy at 50% off, and it was full price today. They can keep it. That was this sale, where I thought for sure I'd get something: http://www.estatesales.net/MN/Saint-Paul/55113/1088394

I bought this whole shelf of cranberry glass a couple of days ago in a consignment shop. (Plus bonus Topaz pieces) Not dirt cheap. but probably less than you'd find it at an estate sale. I paid $165 for everything, and I should come out ahead eventually. I remember years ago when my fellow dealers openly mocked me for paying $175 for that Fenton Coin Dot pitcher at an auction. They didn't know I sold it for $275 2 weeks after I put it out. I got this Fenton pircher for $22.50, but it's awfully pale. My question is about the other pitcher, the darker one. Northwood, something else, or impossible to say for sure? It's quite thin compared to the Fenton one. No pontil mark and has that goofy cross thing on the bottom that looks like a crack at first glance.

I love my Sony Bravia. 32" is about all I need here in the bedroom, but I wouldn't mind a 48". Hopefully it should last as long as my last Sony TV, which was over 20 years, and that was a display model when I bought it.

A typical month is $120 rent and $200 sales, putting me right at the break even point. I figure to move out at the end of November, what with the fall sale in early November. Shouldn't be that hard--7 bookcases of stuff and 4 of the bookcases belong to the mall. Sounds like a "blessing in disguise,"

Got my new computer, even though the PO never updated the tracking number. The guy had put a bogus weight on it, so they had to charge him more and replace the barcode. He had put 5lbs on it, even though it was just over 7 lb. Pretty sure he knows it doesn't ship at 5 lb, because the specs show the unit itself is 5 lb 7 oz, and he has many feedbacks for the exact same item.
Got it up and running. I'm on it right now. I was able to get all my bookmarks through sync on Firefox and Chrome, and I've figured out how to get to all the files on the other computer through a homegroup network. Still have to save them to this one though, since the other one has to be on to see it on homegroup. It's working pretty well so far except I can't get Chrome Page Monitors to work right. Won't go into why I use Chrome Page Monitors. -

Wouldn't you think if an ebay seller prints out a shipping label, they ought to be able to struggle over to the PO with the item? They guy I bought my new computer from says 1 day shipping, so he prints out a label Monday morning, which satisfies the "1 day" requirement as far as ebay's concerned. Yet the PO still doesn't have any tracking info. I'm sure I'll get it sooner or later, but it says "1 day shipping" not 1 day printing."

My old one has 2 problems which could easily be fixed by someone who knew what they were doing. The worst of it is that the case has a big crack that can cause the computer to short out with the slightest movement. You can replace the case, but you have to completely strip it down to the major components. I'm thinking for $269, why fight it? Just ordered it, should have it about the end of the week.

Frankly, I wouldn't accept an offer lower than my opening bid while the auction is still running. I'd tell them if it DOESN'T sell you'll take the offer. If they have some story about how they need it for some birthday present or some such, they're probably just handing you a line. If they really want it fast, maybe do a BIN at the starting price. Not sure if you can get an actual card with that or not, but it is a credit account. It's handled by a different bank than Paypal. I've seen a lot of complaints about that BillMeLater outfit. I've just about had it with trying to jump through the hoops for ebay's top rated seller program. It wouldn't bother me so much if the information they used was accurate. They now claim I have only 95 qualifying transactions, because they keep falsely claiming that some of my listings didn't have 14 day return or 1 day handling. They claim that this listing stated "no returns." http://www.ebay.com/itm/151385356119?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1561.l2649 If a bank had this kind of inaccuracy they'd lose their license.

Fran2--I agree with Carma on this. People might THINK they've put in their max bid, but many will go higher if they see they've been outbid. If I have several similar items or pieces of a dish set, I end them 2 minutes apart. of course either way will work if the people want it, but my way gets people thinking "Well I lost those 2, I'm darn well going to get this one."

George--I've had Silverlight for several years and never had any problems with it (that I know of.) As opposed to Abode Flash that louses something up every time it updates. You need Silverlight for more and more stuff these days, so might as well get it. It's not a very big program, and you hardly notice it. (As opposed to Adobe, which gives me some error message at least once a day.}

Who woulda thought that a 2010 Christmas plate was worth this kind of money: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151398367295?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1561.l2649
All I know about Christmas plates is that everything from the mid 60's through the 80's are the common ones. If I see any older or newer, I buy them if they're cheap. I found this one for $2.99, so I grabbed it. When I looked it up on ebay weeks later, I about fell over at what they were going for. -

Something very wrong at ebay. Seems like all traces that I was ever an ebay user are gone. If I try to sign in, my password is wrong. If I use "forgot password" no such email address is registered. If I try to use advanced search for glass*usa, no such user. Even if I go to my emails for items that just ended, a click the link to the item, there's no such item found. Paypal is okay except now the links don't reference an ebay item, only USPS info. What's happening? Even if someone hacked my account, the old auctions would still be there. ????

Thanks Carma--I see what you're saying when looking at Doty's. All the Palm Beach pieces have vines crossing in an "X." The newer Fenton jar has the X stems on the lid, but nowhere on the base. This is certainly how Fenton made them, as mine has the same 2 pieces as the one in the auction. Thanks again--Bob

Anyone know the mold origin of this Fenton Grape and Cable jar? It's not the big tobacco jar they made in so many treatments. I have one and it has a script F meaning someone else's mold, but whose? I looked at Doty's and I don't see it under Northwood Grape and Cable.

Went to this sale that had more nice Fenton than I see in a year of estate sales. http://www.estatesales.net/estate-sales/MN/Cologne/55322/697281 Wasn't sure when to go, since it's a 3 day and 36 miles away. They seemed to know in great detail what everything is, so I thought priced would be high. I went today, the 2nd day. Prices were just insanely high, but they had 50% off already most of yesterday, and they were doing 65% off today. Still no bargains, but I bought some nice stuff I can't get every day. All the Plum was gone, all the Topaz was gone. Bought some Burmese, Rosalene, Blue Burmese, etc. Spent over $300 and got it all in one grocery tote. They had prices like $85-$125 on most of the better baskets and vases. Pretty marginal buys even at 65% off. Not cheap enough to sell any of it on ebay, but it will look nice in my booths.

Reen--Just a guess based on what I would pay if I saw it at a garage sale, I'd say $10-$12. I figured to try and get $30-$35 in the mall, and given how much room it takes up, I'd probably think it over and leave it if I saw it for $15. You might get lucky and get more from someone that wants it for themselves, but I always figure most garage sale buyers are dealers.

Gail--On ebays new return policy, you can opt out NOW, but it's going to be phased in for everyone by fall of 2015. That means the buyer can generate a return label though ebay without ever contacting you first, YOU pay return shippng, and the money can be yanked out of your Paypal account OR your linked bank account. "Hassle-Free" for the buyer, big hassle for the seller. Still not clear on whether they will allow a "no returns" policy going forward, but I think that's a poor policy for a seller to have. I'm not too worried, because I've had very few returns. But most of the ones I've had have been bogus. Like the clearly described "Fenton 2 oz wines" (with measurements) that were returned because "they're so tiny." They were expecting water goblets. Now I have to pay shipping to get something like that back.

Well, I see ebay fixed my seller dashboard. It now says 100% tracking uploaded with specified time. I'm guessing it will be a mess for the next month.
Not that worried about that extended holiday return thing. I've only had 1 return in 12 years as an ebay seller, and I don't really expect anything to change. Non-paying bidders is another story. -
glass*usa(Bob) posted an update Thursday, Jul 31, 2014, 1:03am EDT, 9 years, 9 months ago
Thanks all for responding about the tracking scans. In studying ebays goofy rules further, it appears to me that for one day handling they require you to upload tracking info the day after payment (which is done automatically by printing labels through ebay) but they only require the carrier to validate that number at any point on the route. The numbers on different parts of the seller dashboard appear to me to be conflicting and totally wrong. It appears that their only beef with my handling time is for July, not back in June when all these delays at my PO seem to have happened. I only had 10 sales for July and all 10 were recieved by my PO the day after payment. Yet they say my tracking percentage for July is 68%. You can't have 68% out of 10 to begin with. I think this is all a glitch with their new seller dashboard. If they don't straighten it out I'll have to call them.
-
Thanks George--I might have to consider scheduling pickups. Can you get them picked up the same day? Do they want you leave them on the step or do they knock on the door?
-
glass*usa(Bob) posted an update Tuesday, Jul 29, 2014, 8:07pm EDT, 9 years, 9 months ago
Wondering what people here that print USPS labels yourself do with the packages. Do you take them to the PO and drop them on the counter (like I do) or wait around to have someone scan them in? The reason I ask is that I noticed my top rated seller status is once again in jeopardy because they're claiming I had 87% tracking info acknowledged by the shipper within one day. Checking the tracking numbers on all my recent shipments, I see a couple of them were not scanned in until 2 DAYS after I dropped them off. Priority mail sat there for 2 days without being touched. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of printing postage if I have to go through the line and watch them scan it in. Anyone else have this problem?

Candlewick toast set-- guess I should resign myself to the idea that this will never be sold to a paying buyer. 3 sales, 3 back-outs. Sold it for the 3rd time to someone who put in the opening bid with 3 seconds to go. Started the NPB process 4 days later, then got an e-check right away. Now I get an email supposedly from the son of the buyer that the buyer just died and I should cancel the transaction. Might be a bit tacky to ask for a death certificate.

Long morning today, as I got to a 9 AM estate sale at 5:30. Already 5 people there, mostly for the Edison phonographs. I went early only because of this pic: http://oi59.tinypic.com/1omye0.jpg I thought the small juice tumblers were Mayfair, BV $85 apiece. I was right, but the pic shows 5 and there were only 2. They told me 3 were badly chipped and they threw them away. I did get the 2 for $2 apiece, and the 6 Mayfair iced teas, (BV $55 each) at $18 for all 6. The second thing I grabbed was a Fostoria American fruit bowl, which is more like a giant low compote, 16" in diameter. Those sell for $90-$100 pretty quick, and they had $15 on that. You can see why this is my favorite estate sale outfit. Some other decent stuff--Belleek, flow blue, stretch glass. All in all, not a bad day, but i was still disappointed there were only 2 juices.

Just went to a thrift store I'm only in every month or so, and they were putting out a small collection on vaseline glass, new and old. The most expensive piece at $9.99 was a Cherry & Cable butter dish like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Highly-Sought-Mosser-Vaseline-Glass-Covered-Butter-Cherry-amp-Cable-Pattern-/171359571098?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27e5d38c9a&nma=true&si=x9PYWgR%252BexurMUJi6j0Q%252FALKOQ4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 I thought it was newer, but i bought everything they had. They had a couple of Fostoria pieces from the 20's, and a cool Degenhart souvenir axe, and some other stuff. Am I correct that the vaseline Cherry & Cable is all newer?

Fran2--100 sales in a rolling 12 month period is one of the many criteria they have for top rated seller and powerseller status. Doesn't sound like very many, but I've barely kept up with it lately. Dropped down to 99 last month and ended the month at 105. Tonight sure didn't help. Sold 1 of 8 for a whopping $9.99. Lot of work for $9.99 minus about 3 bucks to ebay and Paypal.

Shelly--Thanks for looking. I have to say close but no cee-gar on the vase at R. So very similar, but notice that the one at R has little round dot cuts at the top of each row. Also has a few vertical cuts at the top of the criss-crosses. Different size too. At this point I'm just calling it a Waterford giftware vase. One of those thing I'm only listing to try and keep my numbers of ebay sales over 100 for a year. if I can get $19.99 I'll be happy.

I'm thinking I posted the same one here years ago and Lainey told me it was misc giftware. But now I'm not sure it's the same one. I found several on ebay, but no one called it anything other than a Waterford vase. This chipped one was the only one I found that sold. (on the 4th listing)

I believe I just got 2 great carnival buys at 2 different places. I looked at an estate sale online a few days ago. Didn't look like anything, but it's only a couple miles away, so I stopped in. Not much for glass, and i was on my way to the checkout with a couple of bar glasses when I saw another china cabinet I hadn't looked at. Hanging on a plate hanger in back, in a very dark corner was this Northwood Peacock and Urn ice cream bowl. This estate outfit has some people that really know glassware, but I'm guessing thet didn't make it through this house, since there wasn't that much for glass. So the Northwood bowl set me back $5. Am I correct in thinking this is Lime Green, not Ice Green? http://i58.tinypic.com/ern15k.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/2lnvbt4.jpg Then I went to the Thrift a few blocks from the estate sale and got this Northwood Rose Show bowl. White carnival with pretty decent frosty iridescence. $2.49 for that one. http://i61.tinypic.com/2gy8v2o.jpg

glass*usa(Bob) posted an update Sunday, Jun 1, 2014, 9:38am EDT, 9 years, 11 months ago
Gail Mac & George--Before you get too excited, that Dogwood pitcher is not the "American Sweetheart style, which has $650 BV. The AS style is shown in TAGF's "Very Rare Glassware of the Depression Years" but in that book he calls it the "S-Pattern Style." Under S-pattern in an old 8th edition book he shows 2 pitchers he calls "Dogwood style' and "American Sweetheart syle," The pitcher in the "rare" book is much more round and bulbous, and is definitely the shape of an American Sweetheart pitcher. Your pitcher is the usual Dogwood shape, and the reeded or plain handle doesn't matter that much. In my experience reeded is a tad better.
