• I received a message a couple of days ago and am passing it on now.. Many of you will remember Dick Reed. He was a participant on the old E-bay Glass Board and an occasional poster on this board. According to the message I received, he passed away in Jan. A collector of old rare Milk Glass and particularly of .. Covered Animal Dishes. !... He was laughingly referred to as an expert C.A.D. ! I Dick and I had became friends...visiting with each other... prowling antique malls and shops. But, during 2020, I had difficulty getting in touch with him.. Only got Voice Mail on phone calls and no response to e-mails. He had some health issues in 2019, but then seemed to recover and do OK... I do not have any details regarding his passing. I will miss him and his dry sense of humor.

  • I just learned of George's passing....I haven't posted for a long time, but I do read the page.. George and I shared a birthday... March 6...and used to joke about it on the old E-bay glass page. Always looked for his "Good Mornings" and "Good Nights" . He was so helpful to me when I suffered my massive cardiac arrest. He will be greatly missed.

  • Hi everyone.... Haven't posted in quite a long time, but I am turning to you for help.. Am trying to get some items set up for listing on Ebay and I cannot figure out what the Ebay techies have done now. I have items listed and have had other items listed which closed the other day.. No problems with those listing.. Now, after filling in my description of the item... all photos and all important facts, I hit PREVIEW and there is no description there ! So I go back.. Description is just as I wrote it, but it will not come up on the PREVIEW, which means it will not show up when the item is listed.. What do I do ?

  • Fran2... Yes.. that's the correct showing.. Just for some reason I kept getting a RED notice that I could not require immediate payment on a BIN because I had stated Local Pick-up Only.. which I had not done. I didn't click the box for that ! I couldn't tell you now what I did to get that off the form... I have no idea !! LOL !

  • What a mess the new Listing form is !... It kept telling me I had designated "Local Pick-up Only".. which I had not ! Took a long time to figure out how to get that off the listing !... Lots of other really dumb aspects to it... Only got two items listed and I've been at it most of the afternoon... ~~~~sigh~~~~

  • It's been a while since I posted here and it's also been a few months since I listed anything on E-bay..Of course, the listing form is all different now ! Whenever I take a break, they change things !.. Am just wondering.. when I finally got the form all filled out, and clicked Preview.. I saw that all the characters for BOLD.. Paragraph.. or font color, etc. are showing up in the Preview form... Also, if I include a picture in the Description, it does not show on the Preview.. Am I no longer allowed to include pictures in the body of my listing.. and what do I do about all the characters for Bold, paragraph, etc. Will they NOT show up in the actual listing, but the BOLD and paragraph changes will be there..

Hope this post makes sense and someone can give me answer... Almost not worth the trouble to try and figure out the changes....

  • Just have to post another photo of my Josie... My son posted this on his FB page today...Josie is on the left.. Matt is on the right.. Same sweet 70's mustard suit. Matt's picture was taken in 1974 when he was 6 months old.. They both weigh just about the same.. Josie is longer...taller then Matt was. I think that's why she fills out the suit lengthwise a bit better. I kept the suit, for some reason, and gave it to Matt before Josie was born.. Although Josie has her head turned, you can see the same little nose.. same eyebrows... same chin.. same shape mouth and same ears !.. Brought tears to my eyes to see this combined photo.

  • Better then any box of chocolates ! Better then a bouquet of flowers ! My littlest Valentine ! Josie.. 6 months old today !

  • Package is still in Northborough ! Scheduled delivery is now....Monday, Dec. 28 !!

I know, Gail.. Josie won't know the package didn't get there for Christmas.... And her Daddy will understand, but not sure if her mommy will be gracious that Grammie Sue didn't have a Christmas gift for her . Christmas is PERFECTION with her !

Nothing I can do about it... but, am sure curious why this package made it to Northborough, MA and then just stopped. Only about an hour's drive away !

  • The Fed Ex package that has been traveling for weeks is still hung up in Northborough, MA.. Been there since Saturday. All day, the tracking said it would be delivered by the end of today. Now the tracking says, "PENDING....No scheduled delivery date available at this time.." .. I am heartsick over this... Looks like the special gift for my Grandbaby will not arrive in time for Christmas....I do intend to let the company know how I feel about them shipping with Fed Ex and I sure as HECK will let Fed Ex know how horrible their shipping is !

  • Well, that package that was in Worcester on Sat. hasn't gotten very far. Didn't make it to NH yet.. From Sat morning until now, it has gone about 10 miles up the road to Northborough , MA. ! I am losing hope .. And this was the most important of the items I ordered. ~~~~sigh~~~~

  • I read all the posts from a few days ago abut the poor shipping...and now I am tearing my hair out !.. The worst one is a gift I ordered on Dec. 6... Estimated receiving date was 12/14.. Ok I can live with that. However, Every time I checked the tracking, a different shipping date and arrival date would show up.. Now, it seems , the package may have been sent to some other country !.. According to tracking, for the last 3 days, this is what shows up...

"PACKAGE HAS BEEN DISPATCHED FROM THE USPS INTERNATIONAL SERVICE CENTER FOR FINAL DELIVERY TO RECEIVER."

I've done some checking and what this means is..".the package arrived at the International Service Center and has departed the country !"

This is an item that was shipped from Ohio !.. Why would it even go to an International Service Center??

Next... A package I ordered in Nov. is supposed to be on it's way by Fed Ex.. It's been traveling from Wisconsin for over 3 weeks ! It has finally made it's way to Worcester, MA. Can only hope it doesn't need another 3 weeks to go up Rt. 495 to NH.. ( about an hours drive )

And another package coming by Fed Ex. According to the tracking record. it left the Manchester, NH FedEx facility 3 days ago for the USPS office in Goffstown, NH.. where I live ! Goffstown is 5 miles away from Manchester ! The latest information is.....

    7:43 am Out for delivery
    GOFFSTOWN, NH

Out for delivery with the U.S. Postal Service

But, then that info is amended by this...

    9:09 am In transit
    GOFFSTOWN, NH

In transit to U.S. Postal Service

So, if I'm reading this right the package left Manchester for the long 5 mile ride to Goffstown 3 days ago...At 7:43 this morning it was sent out to be delivered to me.. and then at 9:09 Am it was determined to return it and it is now in transit TO the U.S. Postal Service. !!!

All 3 of these gifts are special items for my grandbabies. I am sooo upset ! I know that the PO and other shipping companies get extremely busy at this time of year, however it seems to me the errors and problems I am describing could be the result of untrained seasonal worker error. All of these errors , mistakes and shipping problems sound like the result of pure stupidity !

OK.. my rant is over..( for today..)

  • Buyer of dish in Australia has only a FB of 108.. Seller of dish in MN has a FB of 1159.. Two different people so 2 different items.

  • DON.. Your blue TP is actually the pattern JEWEL...aka LACY MEDALLION. It is not the TP for the pattern Colorado... The Colorado TP is in the same style as the other pieces of the pattern , in that it is footed and round. The only item in the Colorado pattern that is flat bottomed is the tumbler. Colorado was produced in 1898 and is line No. 15057. Jewel...aka Lacy Medallion.... was produced in 1905...All Lacy Medallion items are flat bottomed and likely were produced for the Souvenir market.. The small cordial/wine may have also been used with the Colorado pattern, but was produced during the Jewel production.

  • SHELLY.. The item the left is a celery and it was made by Model Flint Glass as their No 857 line.. Also known as ..MIDWAY and more commonly now known as ..Pillow Encircled. Production dates c. 1891 and continued into 1903 after Model Flint Glass merged into National Glass.

  • MARSON... Have already done a lot of loving and hugging and squeezing ! She's a keeper ! And her daddy is "over the moon!"

  • FRAN2.......My other grandbaby is her cousin, the daughter of my oldest son. Lily is 3 1/2. This beautiful baby is the first child of my youngest son. All my friends are working on great-grandchildren and I'm just starting on being a Grandmother ! I'm late to the game !..But so loving it !... Thanks everyone for the kind words.

  • Hope I do this right..

    Introducing..... Josephine Iris...."Josie"

Josie was born yesterday afternoon at 1 :26 PM weighing exactly 10 lbs ! She is 21 inches long and has a lot of dark hair. And is gorgeous !!

  • BABY UPDATE... According to Dr. at the appointment this morning... baby's weight is estimated in excess of 10 lbs !! This was a shock to my son and DIL. A C-section is now scheduled for tomorrow.. No wonder DIL has been a bit "testy!" Only one more day to go until I get to see my new grand daughter !

  • Baby due date has come and gone... NO BABY ! DIL is a bit "testy" to say the least. We "tip toe" whenever we're around her... She has Dr. appointment in AM, so hoping that maybe an induction will be planned. I can sympathize with DIL. My first was just about 3 weeks late !

  • Aug. 1st... First day of the countdown to baby is almost over ! Due date is Aug. 10, but the doctor says " She's ready !" and my son says DIL is "nesting," and we mothers know what that means ! Her nesting has taken the form that new curtains MUST be up before baby comes ! I'm so excited and anxious to meet my new grand-daughter ! I'm 72 years old and this is only my second grandbaby ! I've waited a long time !

Just had to tell everyone !

    Sue

  • DON.. That's a magnificent display !.. WOW !!

  • That's the identical caddy !.. One could put any pink tumblers with it or in my case, any green tumblers and call it a set !

  • Maybe I should raise the price and include the word ..RARE ! ... 🙂

  • I've listed the exact same serving tray...minus the tumblers.. several times and no bids !

  • Happy Birthday to my birthday twin, George !.. Hope you have a wonderful day !

  • I don't recall what page I was on.. Actually, I had a couple windows open.. and had gone to watch something on TV and came back and IE was out.. One of the windows was Facebook..

  • WOW ! Just came back by itself ! I didn't do anything.. Was going to start a System Restore, as you did, and I clicked on IE and it was back !.. So proves it was not my computer and probably not your computer either.

  • CARMA .. You are not alone in that Internet Explorer has stopped working.. Happened to me last night and is still out !.. I'm on Mozilla at the moment.. trying to recall all the bookmarks I have on IE..and trying to figure out how to get IE back and what the HECK happened.. Evidently not just me or you.. Must be something system wide. Or New England wide or something..

  • CARL Those parents are the same kind of people as the 33 year old woman who decide to go on a hike in the White Mountains of NH on Sunday during the blizzard ! Just downright stupid !.. Of course, her body was found yesterday morning. Her husband had dropped her off at the base of one mountain and was going to pick her up at the base of another mountain on Sunday morning.. Sup- zero temps.. white-out snow and hurricane force winds does not mean it's a good day to hike the mountains !

  • Brutal cold here.. Coldest night of the year ! -4º right now with a wind chill of -30 º. It's been so windy that it keeps triggering my Motion Detection porch lights... Gusts now down to 34 mph . Oh, and that Wednesday storm is now coming Tuesday morning !! It was a lot warmer when I went outside to take those pictures on Friday. It was around 27 º that afternoon.. and no wind !.. Looks like I won't be going out for anything for the next few days.. Need to take my kitty to the Vet. so not sure what I will do.. Have to get plowed out first. It's been a very rough winter so far...

  • DON.. My daughter still lives in AZ.. Might just visit for the winter next year !

  • The snow is blowing so much that my car, seen in the last photo under the car-port, is now covered ! As is the drive-way !

  • Well, the snow has finally stopped... The blizzard hit last night and I have no idea how many inches MORE we got, but the totals around SE NH are pretty high ! I took these pictures late Friday afternoon after my roof was shoveled off... A day late, I might add.. Two year old roof leaked during the night Thursday and my hall bathroom ceiling was pretty much destroyed....My plow guy was so inundated with calls to clear roofs and was so backed up, he just didn't get to my house until too late ! I was on the scheduled since Sunday !..Haven't been plowed yet for this storm, so am not going out to take more pictures.. The wind is so bad that the blowing snow is causing white-outs ! Anyway, this is what it looked like as of Friday..
That "shrub" you see at the corner of the house is not a shrub ! It's a cedar tree that was as tall as the roof.. Guess it's done for now !

    Back walk-way to storage shed...
    http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/3773209/view/SAM_3166A_edited-1.jpg

Car-port and driveway.. The street is only one car width wide.. No place to put the snow !

    http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/3773209/view/SAM_3170A_edited-1.jpg

I can see that the snow we got last night and today is quite deep, so I cannot image where the plows are going to put it !

And another storm is hinted at for Wednesday.... 🙁

  • CARL.. Thanks for that info. .

I know, to some it may not seem like anything to be upset about, but I guard my FB very carefully, and to have some new e-bayer who evidently can't read the info on a listing or read a note packed on the inside of a box, post an implication that my items were dirty really bothered me.

  • Good afternoon.. Once again, a buyer has irritated the heck out of me !.. We used to be able to respond to FB, but now I can't find a way to do so. Just had a buyer.. ( with only a 4 FB score ) post this on my FB.

"There were some grease marks on the dishes but I was satisfied with them."

This was on 4 Candlewick cups and saucers . I have NEVER sold dirty glassware !.. But, each item I sell also has a mark on it with an invisible marking pen.. I mention that it will be there in every listing and also in the note I include win the shipping box. The "grease marks" are the invisible pen marks !.. She makes it sound like I sold her dirty glassware !..

Is there anyway to respond to FB now?.. I'd hate for future buyers to think I sell dirty glass.

  • Just got a reply to my e-mail....

"Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I had not looked at the invoices, but went directly to Pay Now. Sorry! I really appreciate your care in packing. I will be looking forward to receiving these lovely items. Thanks."

Oh.. And she paid for all items !....Hopefully, she learned something today.. Read everything before jumping to conclusions....

  • I am so aggravated ! Just need to vent.. On Monday, I had a lot of auctions close.. One of the first items was a Fine Cut and Block creamer.. As soon as the auctions closed, I hit the link to send the Invoice.. and then went on and watched the rest of the listings close.. Two other items that closed were a Winged Scroll Creamer and A Winged Scroll Sugar to the same buyer. And when I went to send a Combined Invoice I noticed that the buyer was the same person as who won the bid on the Fine Cut and Block creamer. I sent a note to the buyer saying that I would combine the shipping on the 2 Winged Scroll items but that I was reluctant to ship the Fine Cut and Block creamer in the same box. That would be 3 large items in one box and I didn't consider that to be safe. I included this note with the Invoice.

"I will combine the shipping on the two Winged Scroll items. However, for safety sake, the Finecut & Block creamer will be shipped separately. The Invoice for that item has already been sent."

A short while ago, I got this note form the buyer.. ( 2 days after the auctions closed. )

"I see no where in your details that you do not combine shipping. I have never come across this before, I hope it is just an error on the PAY NOW page. If this is the case, I would have to ask to cancel my purchase of the fine cut creamer... Please advise. Thank you."

To me, it sounds like she has never read the note I sent ! And I am angry that she wants to cancel the purchase of the creamer because I am trying to get all 3 items to her safely ! I do not feel it is the best thing to do to try and pack all 3 items into one priority box !... I have half a mind to cram all 3 items in one box and just let them go and hope they don't break, but if they do break, I'm the one who will be out. I've never had any items arrive to a buyer broken.. I also have a feeling that no matter which way I choose to ship these items, I'm going to end up with a Negative FB !

Thanks for letting me vent. I sent as nice a reply to the buyer and can only hope she comes to her senses.

  • CARMA...I'm lucky ! I live in a section of town where all the elec. lines are underground. Never lost power ! About half of the town is without power still.. Got more snow last night.. so everything is still covered.. I lost my satellite TV all day Wed. and Wed. night, but got it back yesterday morning.. Lost the internet and phone last night, but they are back on today.. Haven't checked with Matt yet today.. Spoke with him last night and his power was still out. He had several trees go down some all decorated with Christmas lights, so figured he had to get the lights off those trees today so the trees could be removed.. I image he is out in the cold doing that today. A sunny bright gorgeous day !

  • There are trees down all over the place.. My youngest son lost two. One is leaning up against the house. Just missed going through the guest room bedroom window on the second floor and the other one was a gorgeous big crab apple tree in the front yard that he had just finished putting Christmas lights on.....So far , I am OK... Big maple tree in front yard is hanging very low with heavy snow and. brushing against the house. I can see neighbors up the street with trees down. I've only had the power flicker a couple of times.. but lots are without. This turned into a very nasty storm...

  • Been snowing here since around 10 this morning...and still coming down heavy.. No idea how much is on the ground...My satellite TV has been out since noon.. Last year with all the cold and snow, I didn't loose any TV.. This winter, first snow knocks it out ! Not windy or blowing.. just snowing steady..

  • GEORGE.. I just noticed it for the first time last week when I was setting up listings..

  • If you go to the top of an e-bay page and click on SELL you will come to a page with 2 boxes.. One says "SELL IT MYSELF".. and the other says "SELL IT FOR ME" with a little icon saying.. NEW ! Check it out and reads all the details...

  • Did everyone get this e-mail from E-bay?

    "Dear mainewildrose

We've noticed you have a number of listings that are a great fit for the Global Shipping Program but are not currently enabled for international sales. This means you're missing out on millions of potential buyers.

In October we will automatically enable all of your GSP-eligible listings. This will help make it easier for buyers in up to 64 countries to purchase your items.

    International sale, US shipping

With the Global Shipping Program, you simply ship to a US shipping center where international shipping and customs clearance are handled for you.

No action is needed to take advantage of this global selling opportunity; simply leave your settings as they are now. Eligible items are identified automatically, free of charge. However if you would like your GSP-eligible items to be excluded from the Program simply click here by October 3, 2014.

And as always, thanks for selling on eBay! "

I do NOT want to deal with buyers in other countries. Looks like I will have to opt out of this by clicking on the link included in the e-mail.. and of course, E-bay will find a way to "punish" me for doing so. Perhaps by making my listings impossible to find..

I just got the e-mail from PayPal at the same time regarding the 180 day return policy !..UNBELIEVABLE ! ..So a buyer breaks a piece of glass 5 months after buying it and now can file a dispute saying the item is "not as advertised" ( its broken ) and wants a refund ?.. Give me a break !

  • SHELLY I've been watching HELL ON WHEELS since it began in 2011. Wouldn't miss it ! The problem you are having must be your settings...I have DirecTV and the program does not end too quickly and there are always Previews for next week's episode.

  • JULIE... Does your Lady Chippendale basket have the registry mark on it? The reason I ask is that Fenton repro'd the pattern between 1965 and 1972 in the colors of blue, pink, amber , green, and orange, so it's possible they also did it in milk glass.. Just a thought to consider.. According to Heacock in the Opalescent book, Davidson only produced it in blue and yellow opalescent.

  • OK.. I know this sounds absolutely silly, but, it works ! I was told this solution for leg cramps about 3 years ago and laughed out loud ! Someone said to put a bar of soap in the bed between the sheets. ! Now that is dumb, I thought. One night the cramps were so bad I stood in my bathroom with my toes curled up and the calves of my legs in big knots and I cried from the pain. I looked down and spotted the bar of soap... “Irish Spring.”.. And, said to myself, “Ok.. I’m game for anything!’.. So I put the bar of soap in the bed..crawled back in.. and slept the rest of the night ! I kept the bar of soap there and a few weeks later, told the story to one of my friends, who laughed at me, just as I had laughed at the person who told me about it. So , I decided to do a bit of research.. And there may very well be some truth to this solution. One of the first things us “older folks” are told to do is to cut out the salt from out diets. Well, go get a bar of soap.. ( not a fancy oatmeal or rose petal type of soap) Get Irish Spring.. Dial, etc. and read the ingredients. There will be 4-5 different kinds of chlorides listed.. That is SALT ! I see that several people have mentioned potassium , magnesium, calcium, etc.. Those are all various kinds of SALT ! Potassium Chloride... Magnesium chloride.. calcium chloride ! The bar of soap in the bed leaves a residue of the salts in it on the sheets or even on your legs as you move around during the night and that salt seeps through the skin and into the muscles of the legs. NO CRAMPS ! Have you ever watched a sporting event on TV and suddenly a player is taken out because he has developed cramps?.. He’s taken into the locker room, given either drinks with salt.. ( Gator Ade) or an IV and in a short period of time, he’s back in the game. His body was depleted of salt and as soon as its replenished, the player is OK. In the 3 years or so since I put that first bar of soap in my bed, I’ve only had nighttime leg cramps a couple of times, and that’s usually because I’ve accidently kicked the bar of soap out of the bed or forgotten to put it back in the bed after changing the sheets. Oh, I was watching that TV show “ Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” about 6 months ago and the question was. ...
“ Which of these items should one put in the bed to prevent getting leg cramps?”.. 4 items were listed and one of them was .. A Bar of Soap... which was the correct answer !

Give it a try !.. It’s cheap and it works !.. Just check the ingredients and make sure there are lots of different chlorides listed..

( Try not to laugh too hard or loudly... my kids think it’s foolish, but then, they haven’t reached the age of nightime leg cramps or had salt restricted from their diets yet ! ) and please don’t think I’m some kind of idiot !... It really does work.)

  • So very sorry to read of the loss of Bill. He was always willing to share his knowledge . We shared a personal correspondence, too. I will miss his witty and supportive e-mails. My sincere condolences to his family and to all of us here who mourn his passing. .

  • Carl.... Got those same storms here before you got them.. Downtown Goffstown is a mess. Trees down.. Roads blocked.. flooding from the river. Huge big tree on the lawn of St Lawrence Church came down.. Power outages all over town.. Am lucky in that all power lines in this Co-Op where I live are all underground. And on a separate "trunk" or whatever it is called. Only had some flickering.. Still raining and some rumbling off in the distance.

  • Gave it one more try and it worked ! My password has been changed..

  • I've been trying for hours to change my e-bay password and this is what I get..

  • DON It is beautiful ! Your picture shows it all much better then the seller's picture ! I love it ! If I thought I could find a lot of items in that pattern, I'd be starting a new collection !

  • .. No need to give any credit to me.. I just knew the pattern name and then had to look up the info to make sure I gave the correct facts.. It's pictured on page 265 of McCain's Field Guide with info on page 264, and also on page 170 of Heacock's Book 5 ..U.S. Glass. The credit should go to those two...

    Sue

  • GEORGE AND CARL Thanks so much for the info...

George, yes the bowls are stained.. they don't have the ribbon of glass like in Frencesware.

Carl...I don't have Bredehoft’s book, ”Hobbs, Brockunier & Co. Glass”. Looks like I'll have to drop a few hints to my kids as a gift suggestion... Thanks for the explanation on the different bottoms.. It clears up a frustrating search as to what this bowls is.

Didn't see either of your posts until after I made my second post.. and now I see by the timeline that you both posted the info before my additional post !

  • The below post should have read... Hobbs Brockunier Dew Drop Rubina! I kept reading it over and over and asking myself why it didn't sound right ! Suddenly a bell went off. Left out the Dew Drop !

  • Good morning all...My daughter recently ( last week ) sent me two boxes of items she had found in Phoenix. ( 12 items.. Like getting Christmas presents ! ) She loves prowling antique malls and flea markets looking for stuff.. She is also a big collector . She travels all over the country in her job, so has access to malls that I will never ever see.

Am looking for a bit of help regarding this hobnail bowl. It’s an individual berry bowl and at first I thought it was Hobbs Brockunier Rubina, but then I noticed the difference between it and what I’ve seen . This bowl has hobnails all across the bottom whereas other bowls ID’d as Hobbs Rubina have a clear bottom with no hobnails. .. such as in this listing.

  • DON... I've been on Facebook for several years.. and I "think" I registered on the EAPG group at one time, but got a new computer a year ago and then last fall signed up with a new ISP and some where along the way lost my connection. If you want to see some funny stuff, do a search for EAPG and see all the weird stuff that comes up. Now, after you posted the link, I remember the correct name for the group ! Thanks for the help.

    Sue

  • GAIL ... Pete ( Moscow-pete) is Peter Thomas.

Have tried to find the EAPG Facebook page.. I had a link to it once and lost it.. and now whenever I search for it, I get some very weird pages with EAPG in their name.. Can you give me a link to it?

  • DON...JULIE I love that pattern ! The pitcher is just gorgeous ! Can you imagine what a complete table set in beautiful condition would look like?.. Might have to think about a new collection.. Although I don't think I've ever seen any pieces in as good a condition as that is.

  • DON...The pattern of the pitcher is.. FLOWER AND DIAMOND. Made by U.S. Glass in 1913 .pattern #15147. It is pictured on page 265 of McCains, but with the wrong pattern number. In the U.S. Glass book by Heacock a catalog reprint is pictured on page 170 with the correct pattern number of 15147.

  • NANCY .. The small green vase is by U.S. Glass Co. It doesn't really have a pattern name. It is pictured in Heacock's U.S. Glass book on page 171 in a reprint of an original 1898 advertising page along with 4 other vases and carries the ID number 16048.

  • GAIL... So sorry to hear about Frannie. I've lost several very loved furkids in my life. It is the hardest part of being a pet owner.

  • GAIL....My daughter has 4 cats.. Mama cat and her 3 kittens.. Maxie( the mama cat ) is now about 16 years old and the 3 "Mini's" are 15. One of the kittens, Squeaks, is a real terror when trying to give meds. She has to have antibiotics and the Vet gives her a prescription for a Transdermal version of the antibiotic.. My daughter just has to rub it into the inside of her ear ! Saves a lot of hassle and prevents bloody arms and hands.. Although, Squeaks is getting wise to it, and is now giving a bit of trouble, but that's also her personality. You might ask your Vet for the Transdermal version of your cat's antibiotic. If your kitty is a snuggler , it should be much easier to get the meds in her. Just rub it into the inner ear ! Thought I'd pass this along to you and any other cat owners. You'd think all vets would now prescribe this method of giving meds, if possible.

  • Thanks for all the Birthday Wishes.. Really appreciate the thoughts.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE !

  • CARL.. There was a 2.something one in Northern NH last week, too !

  • Good morning .... It's cold here in NH, too ! I'm getting pretty tired of it. Don't mind the snow so much, but the bitter cold temps have been a bit hard to bear. Furnace never shuts off !

I noticed several people using the * to denote degrees, so thought I'd pass on a method of getting the º mark to post. With the left hand, hold down the alt key while typing in with the right hand 0186 and you will be able to post -10º , etc. Just a little trick I learned several years ago.. Not sure who told me about it. I used to have a link to a page with all kinds of ways to type in things like this. Not sure what happened to it. I might have just lost it when I got the new computer.

  • The issue of the Click-n-Ship problem of printing a shipping label has been solved.. Yes.. the USPS re-did their Shipping Label page... and neglected to let anyone know how to access it !

I tried for days to get the page to work.. I wrote 3 e-mails and didn’t get any replies.. I tried to use the LIVE CHAT link to no avail.. and I spent a long time on phone holds over the space of 2 days.. and finally got through to be told that if I was using IE, I needed to switch to FireFox or Chrome !

So, I switched to FireFox and was able to print a label.

This morning I finally got a reply to one of my e-mails.. Here is part of what was written in the e-mail

“Also I need to let you know that we have had some browsers issues if you are using Internet Explorer, we are having people use Firefox or Google Chrome.
I hope this helps, sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused you.”

    Amanda D
    USPS Internet Customer Care Center

    I wrote back to Amanda.

“Since you were aware of this problem, wouldn’t it make sense to put this information at the top of the page ?
I spent 5 days trying to print shipping labels ! I sent 3 e-mails... tried unsuccessfully to contact LIVE CHAT and spent over two
hours...total... on phone hold and finally spoke to someone who told me about the IE issue ! “

I got another reply from Amanda.
” I am very sorry and we have put that on our Website on the Print a label page, They have been working hard on getting all these issues worked out. I hope things are working better for you now.Thank you for the suggestion.”

I checked, and there is a message regarding this problem... in small letters.. at the top of the Click-n-ship page.

It really is hard to believe that it took a 71 year old woman to point out something that should have been common sense to the computer whiz who wrote the new Click- n- Ship page !

  • George...Fenton... I'm not saying you can't use the tracking number you get through e-bay.. What I am saying is that tracking number is through USPS.. You are able to access it through Ebay. You are not shipping by Ebay. Ebay is not a shipping service! You are shipping by USPS "by way" of Ebay. If there are any real problems with the tracking or shipping, you will have to go through USPS to resolve the issue. The insurance is also through USPS. Ebay is not insuring the package. The USPS is.. You are insuring the package through USPS..."by way" of Ebay . Don't understand why that is so hard to comprehend. If the package and item are damaged, does Ebay ask you to send the package to Ebay and they will pay for the item?..NO ! You have to take the package to the POST OFFICE and the refund for the damaged item comes from the Post Office. Ebay may list the $50 Insurance on their site, because they have to. They are using USPS criteria to print and insure and track the item, so the info has to be listed.

  • REEN... Ebay does NOT include $50 Insurance or tracking.. The USPS provides those services..You are still shipping with USPS ..by way of E-bay. That’s all. That insurance and tracking is through the USPS. If you have a claim, you don’t notify E-bay, you file the ins. claim with USPS.. If you are trying to locate a package, Ebay doesn’t know where it is.. USPS does ! And you are forced to pay for the shipping with PayPal ! So, by going through the USPS web site to print shipping labels, I am by-passing the middle man... Ebay /PayPal ! ..And I HATE PAYPAL ! Only have the account because Ebay forced people to have one.. And that is a crime ! A REAL Crime ! No other site forces it’s clients to only use “their” payment plan. You are free to use whatever credit card or debit card you want. I never leave any money in my PayPal account. As soon as a buyer pays, I transfer the money to a special account that I only use for PayPal, and then I withdraw the money from that account . My shipping with the USPS is paid on a separate debit card on file with the USPS.

I know the pros and cons of PayPal, etc. have been tossed around for several years, so I am really not trying to open that can of worms again. It’s too bad no one was able to stand up and fight E-bay on the whole PayPal scam.. and that is what it is ! A scam ! They’ve even got us paying them a fee for shipping a box with the USPS ! That is a total scam !

Off to PO to ship these two boxes. Web site is still not functioning properly and I can’t print a label. Can’t print with Ebay either, because there is only $10 left in my PayPal account.( I transferred it out ) . and E-bay wants money ( PayPAL AND THEIR FEE) for me to print a label with them !

  • GEORGE...Ebay shipping is more expensive for me ! Not sure why, but the shipping rates I get from USPS have always been less then what e-bay charges. For instance, last week I sold some Intaglio berry dishes.. E-bay's shipping was $10.60.. I paid $9.03 by printing my labels on USPS. A heavy Hofbauer bowl. eBay's shipping was $10.20, I paid USPS $8.53..I only ship Priority, so am not too concerned about Parcel Post. I was always puzzled by people saying that E-bay and PayPal shipping was less then the USPS.. I have always found it to be the opposite.

  • NANCY...CARL I think I sort of forgot about the prices changing. I knew the stamps were gong up, but didn't give a thought to shipping charges changing. I hope that is it and maybe I can get shipping labels printed tomorrow. I told two buyers I would ship on Monday , and the way it works here is if I have the packages in the community clubhouse in the mornings, they are picked up by the Postal worker and I never have to go near the PO, which is 5 miles away..so was planning to take the packages over this afternoon, but I just couldn't print the labels.

  • Does anyone here use the USPS Click-N-Ship web site to print shipping labels ?.. I have always used them. Never printed through PayPal or E-bay.. and I get a discount shipping price. Well, have tried all day to print labels and it looks like a new page has been put up, but it only goes so far. I can type in the shipping address.. weight of package and then I am asked if I am shipping Priority or Priority Express and that's as far as it goes. Can't pay for the label.. can't print the label and can't arrange a pick-up. There is just nothing there and no way to go to another page, if that is what they are doing.. Has anyone else encountered this? I shipped packages last week with no problem...It wasn't like this at all .

  • SHELLY.. Total dimensions...length X width X height cannot exceed 1728 inches. Your box...15 X 12 X 12 = 2160, so it does exceed. A 12 X 12 X 12 box is 1728.. but the sides can be any combination that equals the 1728.

  • Daughter's plane just landed at Boston Logan.. 15 min. early ! So no delays coming across the country at all !

  • Good morning.. Thanks for all the compliments on my decorations..

The "guard kitty" under the tree is Dancer. She was an abused kitty that I took in when I was in AZ. She is now healthy and very loving to me !She is afraid of everyone else and will hide under one of the beds if anyone comes to the house. My youngest son tells everyone that I just think I have a cat ! No one has ever seen her ! She will spend all Christmas day under my bed, I'm sure.
That baby picture and frame over my mother's antique desk is my mother ! My great grandmother Phebe ( yes.. that is the way she spelled her name ) had the picture done for my mother's 1st birthday in 1917. The photographer and date and names are all on the back of the picture inside the frame and it has always been in that frame. An interesting fact , to me , at least, is that I have a picture of my daughter at the same age and except for the different style of clothes she is wearing, one would think it is the same baby !

I'm keeping my eye on the TV weather report. Just a bit drizzly here. No rain to speak of or any other kind of precipitation. And it is warm ! So far, my daughter has made it to the Dallas/ Fort Worth airport on time from Albuquerque with no delay in sight for the rest of the trip. She should be in Boston in about 4 hours. Keeping fingers crossed . Gotta go make my mushroom sauce meatballs .My daughter put in a request for those for supper tonight.

  • I have enjoyed seeing the decorations that people have made or put up, so thought I’d share mine.. Finally got everything done and cleaned up !.. My daughter arrives from NM tomorrow.. and I will have ALL my kids here on Christmas Day.. It’s been about 14 years since they have all been together on that day. Most Christmases were spent spending some time with one son or the other a few days before Christmas or only one child being able to come home for Christmas... I have decorated and cleaned and baked and cooked and shopped and wrapped !..I’m excited and happy, but, am so tired !.. Hope to spend the next 3 days just resting and enjoying visiting with my daughter..We may hit a couple of antique malls on Monday...

    Anyway here are my decorations.

7 1/2 foot tree. I hauled it in from the shed.. got the lights on and decorated it all by myself !.. It took me about 3 days to do it !

Not sure how much time I’ll have to get back here before Christmas.. so just want to say that I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.

  • Thanks for all the advice. I had already re-listed the tumbler last Friday with a BIN after the case was closed. I sent a note to the buyer and am just waiting for a PayPAl notice. that payment has been made.

Now, here is something strange. I went to my Blocked Bidder list.. and I KNOW I had added her to it, because I was just a bit ticked off at having a NPB.. It's not there ! And , as I scrolled through the list looking for that ID, I noticed at least 15 ID's that had been replaced with this......158673@deleted !.. The numbers were different for each deleted ID ! I never deleted any ID's from my blocked list.. and since the last ID I added was this buyer, that last ID was also replaced that way. Has anyone else had this happen and what does it mean? Who is deleting blocked buyers?

  • Looking for opinions. Last week I filed a case for a NPB. Had tried everything to contact the buyer to no avail.. E-bay has closed the case and refunded my Fees.. Just now I get an e-mail from the buyer..."willa1986" ( I posted her ID the other day for people to put on their blocked buyer list. )

"I am so sorry. Today is the 1st time I have been on Ebay in over a week. My Husband had a heart attack and required surgery. I have been at the hospital with him and caring for him since we got home yesterday.
Please accept my apologies. If you would still be willing to sell me the tumbler I will send payment right away."

Now, I have no problem selling the tumbler to her, if payment is made right away, but my question is.. how will this set with E-bay?.. Could there be any ramifications for me if I sell to the buyer I reported as a NPB and e-bay refunded my fees?

  • Here's another ID for the Blocked list.. Haven't had an NPB for about a year. Now I get one.. Filed the case.. it's now closed and I did leave NEG sounding FB right before I closed the case.. Buyer's ID is .....willa1986

Son took me out to dinner tonight.. and then we did a bit of shopping.. Had a nice evening.. Off to bed..

  • REEN The pattern is also known as... REVERSE 44 or PANELED 44.. It was U.S. Glass Co line #15140.. As to what piece you have, would have to know the dimensions.. Someone asked about a piece like this a couple of weeks ago, thinking it might be a sugar, but based on the size I was able to say it was the Low Standard Handled Compote. A good percentage of the pieces in the line have the intertwined US mark on the bottom. Glassport refers factory in the U.S. Combine where it was produced.

  • Oh, and since I have no knowledge of GREEN DOT cards, of course I will not accept one.

  • Good afternoon everyone.. I am in a quandary ..not sure if I am being scammed ..through e-bay. I received an e-mail, as I said, through e-bay ...

"I am no longer using paypal as I disagree with their new policy to require bank info. online. I prepayed a green dot card. I am interested in your carnival glass vase. Will you except the card?"

It was signed by an E-bay user name that most of us would know... only the FB just didn't add up as being from that person.. Now the other thing is, I do not have a carnival glass vase listed for sale ! I did have 2 of them a couple of weeks ago, but they sold.

I know this is a big season for scamming, but what bothers me is this came through e-bay.

Not sure if I should answer this or not ...

  • Gail .... I can't figure out why McCain put the ID in Diamonds...Makes no sense... I've seen several of the pitchers come up and remembered the ID had the word Ball in it..so that's how I found McCain's sketch.. Never would have found it if I was searching blind.. Would never have thought to look under Diamonds !

  • Sorry.. TYPO.. That's page 92 in Mc Cains for BALL and BAR

  • BILL.. The pattern is .. BALL AND BAR.. made by Westmoreland in 1896.. on page 96 of McCains. Here is a listing for a clear one...

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Small-Westmoreland-Glass-Creamer-Pitcher-Ball-Bar-c-1896-/171181855779?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27db3bd423

I've only seen the small pitcher.. I don't recall seeing any other items in the pattern, although Mc Cain says it was made in a full extended table service.

  • SHELLY .. Your KC pitcher is either by Adams or U.S. Glass. It was made during the period when the pattern was known as Excelsior.. or X.L.C.R.. Adams made the pattern from 1880 on until the U.S. Glass Combine was formed in 1891 and Adams became part of that combine. The pattern was then produced by U.S. Glass Co. At 6.5 inches tall your pitcher is the 1 quart Milk Pitcher. When Tiffin began re-issueing the pattern, they did not make this style pitcher.

  • reen... Your Reverse 44 / Paneled 44 item sounds to be the 6 inch Handled Low Standard Compote. None of the various sugar bowls in the pattern are 6 inches in diameter. There are 5 different size sugar bowls...covered and open ones.

  • Good morning.. Just read Carl's post for today regarding the P-44 ...Athenia..Reverse-44 pattern. My first piece of the pattern was the spooner, which I found in Grandmother's attic. It had a big junk out of the rim.. I asked if I could have it and I still have it. Grammie Bertha told me it had belonged to her mother-in-law.. my great grandmother.."Grammie Phebe." I have lost count on how many pieces of this pattern I now have.. I also still have the blue fernery that Carl found. It is not chipped, but does have a very large crack.

My two most recent acquisitions are a small punch cup my daughter found in Ohio ( only one I've ever seen ) and a RUBY STAINED tankard pitcher and 4 goblets I found at a shop here in NH about a year ago.

  • SHELLY.. Your Celery Vase is pictured in the book...CELERY VASES...by Dorothy Daughterty on page 92. It is listed as pattern name...Vertical Bar .....and says it was made by Findlay Flint Glass Co of Findlay, Ohio in 1889-1891 and at the time the book was published , ( 2007) had a BV of $25-$75.

  • Jesse jrmroc If the total height of your item is 6', then one must deduct the height of the stem from the bowl to determine if it is a spooner or a celery. The bowl of a spooner is usually 4-41/2 inches deep and that of a celery is usually 5-6 inches deep. An easy way to find out is take several of your own teaspoons and put them in it with the bowl part of the spoon down inside. If approx. 2" of the spoon handle rise above the rim, it is a spooner.. Spoons were kept on the table in these holders and having the handle appear above the rim would make it easy to get a spoon out of the holder. If you cannot get a spoon out without having to dig around down inside of the holder, then it would be a celery vase. Celery could be cut in proper lengths so that there would be plenty of length to allow one to pick up a piece of celery. So, measure the depth of the bowl of your item and you will be able to tell what it is. Also , most spooners were at least 3 1/2 inches - 4 1/2 inches in top width.

  • Gail.. Your Granddaughter is adorable.. Beautiful pictures !
That was all the prompting I needed to post a few new ones of my grandbaby Lilianna!

  • BILL In case I wasn't clear.. the cranberry pitcher pictured in the book is the same shape and has the same decoration.

  • BILL.. The identical pitcher in cranberry is pictured on page 96 in the book...'HARRRY NORTHWOOD...THE WHEELING YEARS...1901-1925" Only information given is that the pitcher was made in blue, green, and ruby ( cranberry) from the same shape mould as other Northwood pitchers.

  • CARL.. I got an HP.. I know nothing about computers.. just how to use one ! So I handed my credit card to Matt and said, "Order it !" And he put everything on it that he thought I would need or that I usually use. I had a very hard time with the photo program, but eventually got used to it. This is my 3rd computer.. The photo program I was used to was in both of the other computers I had, but, I couldn't get that same program anymore. I've had a few very small glitches with this one, but mainly it's due to my lack of knowledge. Matt had to come over this afternoon and "repair" something to do with WORD.. I hadn't done anything wrong, but something went whacky with it. I'm lucky he lives near-by. So after 7 months , I'm still finding some kinks with Windows 7.. I had XP before, and Windows 7 is a bit different. Still getting used to it.

  • CARL... Congrats on the new computer. I got a new one last Feb.. My old one was 10- years old and had been "moved" 3 times..and just didn't cut it anymore.

As to the TinyPic. When ever anyone uses Tinypic here on this site, I always see the whole page.. And I see the whole page with your picture.

  • I see the post by Shelly wondering if her warm weather is Indian Summer, so thought I would write a bit about the meaning of the term and where it came from.

First of all, it is still SUMMER !.. And will be until Sept. 22. The most common method of determining when Indian Summer occurs is that there has to be a killing frost first, and the atmosphere has to be a bit hazy. There are many stories as to how this kind of weather got the name.. Indian Summer. This is the story I learned growing up.

When early settlers encountered this kind of weather, ( not common in Europe ) they also noted that there was an abundance of Natives in the area at that time. The settlers were already battened down in their cabins for the winter, but the area seemed to have an abundance of Natives roaming around the woods. The Natives along the eastern shore raised crops of beans, corn, squash, etc. and after the first cold weather came along, the crops were harvested and stored for winter eating. The same with hunting. Natives hunted all the time, but increased their hunting and dried and stored the meat for the winter. After all was prepared and ready for the winter, along came that period of warm weather. And the various villages of the tribes came together at a designated village for days of feasting and games and story telling...knowing that once the heavy snows and bitter cold came along, it would be months before they would be able to visit and see each other. The settlers were baffled by this behavior having never known this type of weather phenomenon and basically thought that the Natives were acting as if it were still summer !

That is the story I learned as I grew up in NE and it does make sense... That really was the behavior and routines of the Native tribes at that time of year along the Northeast coast. And not to take anything away from the story of the First Thanksgiving, but the feast does mirror the Natives tradition. They came to the pilgrims feast.. brought food ( harvested corn and squash, etc. and meat from hunting) and stayed and played games and visited with the Pilgrims. Original writings and accounts of that “First Thanksgiving” state that the feast lasted several days. To the Natives, the settlers were just doing what they had been doing forever. Celebrating the harvest and visiting and feasting in preparation for the coming winter.

I just did a Google search of the Term Indian Summer and came up with this definition and story. Not quite the same as the one I grew up knowing, but there is a similarity.

  • BILL...itsagas In the book... TIFFIN GLASS 1940-1980 by Hemminger , Goshe and Pina.. several pieces of the old original X.L.C.R are pictured including the Mustard Pot. and a BV is given as $475-$525. This book was issued in 2001.. I recall , about 6 months or so ago, one did come up on E-bay and it went quite high. Around $300, I think...

I've had problems off and on all day getting in to E-bay, so I just quit trying..

  • REEN I didn't see the last picture you posted until after I had made my post.. It's a very good picture and the pattern is very clear.. You item is definitely COLUMNED THUMBPRINTS.
