• Cold and very wet here. We have copped some very heavy downfalls which has caused flash flooding and road cuts in some areas. Apart from a very wet soggy yard, I have not been affected.
I got a little spurt on and listed a couple of items to sell on FB. All have sold and all have been picked up. Even an item I listed a long time ago, it never sold after having it relisted several times. I never deleted it and to be honest I had totally forgotten about it. To my surprise the person buying one of the newly listed items said they would take the scales as well. I had to stop and think for awhile..what scales? LOL

Happy belated birthday in Heaven Toby @abzoid

  • Happy Birthday to Toby (@abzoid)!! I still miss him -- his friendship, his immense glass knowledge, his wicked sense of humor.

  • @abzoid Toby can usually be found on FB in the Vintage Glass group.

I am wondering where @carma Carl is -- last heard on Wednesday, he and his wife were going into town to have breakfast. Now it's Friday and he hasn't posted since. I hope everything is okay.

  • @abzoid HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOBY!!!!!!

Another rainy day in NJ, which is fine, my garden is loving it. But it's still cool -- I finally broke down and turned the heat back on in the house yesterday as it was about 55 IN the house.

  • Good evening everyone I am back from my 4 days away doing a swapmeet. Weather was perfect and sales were good, though not as good as previous years at this particular swap. But I am not complaining.
I am too tired to do a complete catch up scroll I hope everyone has been keeping well and finding lots of pretty glass treasures.

    HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY
    TO
    Reen @reen
    and
    Toby @abzoid

  • Argh, posted too soon!

And a day late, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Toby, @abzoid -- I hope you stop by.

  • Hello all!

I have three pieces of opalescent glass....and, as usual, have no idea where to start looking. I know Toby @abzoid knows alot about opalescent, so maybe he can peek in for me, or anyone else willing to take a look that might know, and I thank you in advance.

The first piece is green...a nappy? It measures approx. 7 1/2" x 7":

2nd piece is a blue two handled bowl? measuring 7" across from handle to handle and 5" long.

  • Good morning, glassies. We had rain all day yesterday and then it snowed last night. Later it turned back to rain and today we are suppose to have a lovely day in the 50s.

@abzoid TOBY ... that is just a magnificent set! Congratulations on winning it. Always glad when you drop in here, but want you to know that those of us on Facebook really appreciate all you do as moderator on Vintage Glass and the time it requires.

HI to TRACY, CARL, KATIE, DON and GEORGE!

  • @abzoid Thanks for that information. I believe there are 2 of them. Do you have any BV for them? I think that my DD is not all that impressed with them. I might reclaim them and put them in my ebay store.

  • @songbreeze Gail, Guess I really did not expect any 'clues'. But thanks and you most always come through.
@abzoid Haven't taken an photos yet. But think I have definitely ID the Duncan Miller sugar bowl. Probably will not list most of it as it has some hazing. It happens that our 2nd DD has been collecting any one of these patterns for many years. She has 2 DDs to pass it on to. I have printed the info from your site.

  • Good afternoon, glassies. 15 minutes after I woke up the phone rang and I’ve been running errands ever since for different friends. Hopefully no more calls today.

@10bbg10 HELEN … I’ve had this bookmarked ever since @abzoid TOBY wrote this article. Scroll down and you will see where it says ”Here is a chart”. Click on that link. http://www.ecommercebytes.com/cab/abu/y202/m11/abu0083/s07/ I even printed it out and carry it with me when shopping.

HI to REEN, JULIE, CARL, DON, and GEORGE!

  • Good Morning everyone. well all the celebrations are over. Now to get my system back to normal LOL No more alcohol or feasting for a few days Then I will do New Year, maybe. I am still not sure I can celebrate and see the NY in. I just get too upset because DH is not with me.Friend that lost her partner earlier in the year does not want to be home on her own, so we are thinking of going out somewhere and give each other support and see the New year in.
Don @donscns so sorry to hear your DD was so ill. And I think the boyfriend will have to be a keeper too LOL
    Carma @carma brrrrrrr
Toby @abzoid nice to see you pop in for a visit 🙂
Shelly @shellyrae37 Thanks for passing on the message from Reen.
    Julie

  • @abzoid Hey, Toby, it's good to see you!!

Sitting in daughter's house watching it snow lightly -- you only thought Virginia was in the south. ;~)

  • @abzoid TOBY ... That sounds like a very good idea if I were buying to keep the items. When I go on a buying trip, I come home and within 24 hours, I have where, when, what, and how much entered into my spreadsheet inventory list. Since I really don't collect anything, I usually only take pictures when I'm going to post something on eBay. Otherwise most of it gets split among the 4 malls/fleamarkets I'm in. It's only the one booth that is strictly EAPG that is in a huge mall that I thought it best to add a photo.

  • @abzoid TOBY ... thanks for the additional information. I will make note of it and place it in the book when I receive it.

@jerseystar NANCY P ... so delighted to see you made it to Seattle! Terrific news! I know you will really enjoy your time there and you certainly deserve a rest from all the East Coast havoc you've been through.

  • @abzoid TOBY ... I had never heard of Bastow. All new to me. I just ordered the Coudersport Glass book by Tulla. Can hardly wait to get it and see what all was made and read all the history.

@donscns DON ... The four bowls are lovely...few wee chips and flakes but you have to look closely as that rim and base are so ornate. I won't be looking for the master as I don't collect anything...well, other than I decided I collect cruets. So once I get my book, study it, enjoy looking at the bowls for awhile...then it will be time to sell 🙂

  • Some days it's just tooooo hard........

@abzoid TOBY ... The Opalescent book said it was thought to be Northwood, so I went to eapgpatterns.com and it also said Northwood. About ready to chuck all the books in the rubbish bin. Some days it's just tooooo hard........

  • @abzoid Toby - Personally, I would say anything pre-1900 , including EAPG & ABP of that time period. IMHO anything post 1900 would fall into defined time/style classes. Antique is such a nebulous definition anyhow.

  • Hello everyone. I don't get much chance to post lately. Life is busy. I do still try to lurk once or twice a week though.

    @dbfrogs, Happy Birthday Fran!

@wattleihavenext, Julie,Congratulations on the newest member of your family.

@okcoolwheels, Suzy. Good job. Glad to be able to chalk one up for the good guys!

@jerseystar/nancyp, Nancy, Thanks for the ruby/amberina tip. Another helpful tip added to my Glassie tips notebook.

@oklahomasong-gail, Wow! I know how good that feels. Almost inspires me to do the same...almost.

@abzoid, I love that little blue vase.

@Shelly, I'm sorry, I must have missed reading about the reason for all the new appliances and insurance people. I'm assuming there was something along the lines of a flood or fire?

  • Whew! Got boxes packed up and tagged and taken to the auction place. Got a few minutes to relax then off to Church and afterward Religious Education class.

@abzoid TOBY ... what a darling little vase. I have no idea who made it.

Oops, the man is here to mow the lawn. Better go rustle up his payment. It's 81° right now but a cold front is suppose to move in so I guess he's trying to get it done before then.

  • Good Morning everyone. Temps are suppose to reach 36° Celsius here today.
Shelly @shellyrae37 Yes I was the one taking pics 🙂
Gail @songbreeze I hope you do well at the auction
Bill @itsagas Maybe this site might help http://www.bigashtray.com/
Toby @abzoid Beautiful and a tiny little tinkle ,not bells, just a little tinkle LOL that I have seen that somewhere before or maybe just something similar.

  • @abzoid : Yup. it's sad. Sears has closed some 80 stores nationwide in the past 12 months and now the K-Marts are feeling the pinch. (Sears owns them). They've closed 20 of those recently.

I also do a lot of shopping online now. But, it's a royal pain when you just need a few small items to complete a project, can't find them locally any longer, so you're project goes on hold for a week or two waiting for the items to arrive in the mail.

Was just downstairs working on the layout for the past couple hours. I have the 12 5/8" hole cut in the benchwork to accomodate the Northern Maine Junction turntable. Also have two 1/4" layers of foam board for landscaping under-structure cemented down along a 20 foot length of benchwork. Going to let those set for a few hours before doing any more.

  • Well I see Toby @abzoid ID it for you Bob @baabaamason At least I got part of it correct LOL
    Julie

  • @songbreeze Gail/@abzoid Toby - found it ! Westmoreland original released a toy berry set (master bowl with 4 or 6 small bowls) in crystal in the Lacy Daisy pattern. Also released in milk glass. Most small bowl are mistaken for open salts. Summit repro'd the set in clear cobalt with the "S" on the master berry bowl retaining the "W" "G" on the small bowls.

  • @abzoid Toby - if you are lurking, my Swan canary glass holder on FB - How is it a repro if it has the Westmoreland mark on the base? Totally confused as to maker's marks being used in repro's.

  • Good morning, glassies. Beautiful morning here in NE Oklahoma. Getting ready to head out to Church and afterward...no plans yet, but may drive around to some towns and search for treasure.

@wattleihavenext JULIE ... always great to find a piece that you've wanted for a long time. Congratulations of your stemware sale!

@abzoid TOBY ... I agree 100% with your "'Many times knowing what NOT to buy saves you far more money....'"

@baabaamason BOB in KY ... Great find on your "pickle" jar. THought it interesting though that they said it was originally called a pickle jar but collectors popularly call it a "marmalade" jar now.

Time for me to beat feet.......see you all later.

HI to KATIE, AMBER, DON, HELEN, GEORGE, MARTY, & CARL!

  • @abzoid Toby - as I said on FB - thank you !!
Licking wounds after BH found out I bought it !!! J/K - she's upset but will appreciate when I sell.

  • @wattleihavenext JULIE ... oh wow! I see where you got an new Tablet. I've very curious of how difficult the learning curve is for one. Do you just love it? So very sorry to hear that MaryPat has had surgery. THank you so much for keeping us updated. Hope we hear from Fran soon, too.

Well, I see everyone covered the postage refund issue. I, too, have twice canceled and international label. Really worried me the first time when it took so long to refund. The second time I knew it was only a matter of patience so I didn't fret.

@fyrqueen KATIE ... so very sorry you are suffering so from your allergies. Surely hope it starts to improve soon.

@abzoid TOBY ... You have earned a well-deserved rest after the 3-day Glass Show. So pleased it all went well. Sure wish gas wasn't as high as it is and one could just jump up and tootle off to various shows and conventions.

@gailmacphee GAIL ... those are 2 absolutely gorgeous stems!!! Wouldn't I love coming across something like them in my searches!

@10bbg10 HELEN ... How wonderful that your granddaughter made 2 sales! It's always a great encouragement...and surely gets one hooked on eBay

@reen REEN ... looks like the sale is really nicely set up. Do hope it is very successful for you all.

@shellyrae37 SHELLY ... oh, I did NOT see it had a reserve. That makes me feel MUCH better as I kind of drooped when I saw that low price for it. I'm hoping for a better sale when I eventually put my set together.

  • Good Morning everyone I am planning on a big day out in the yard. It has been neglected since my trip.I just haven't had the time to do anything. Will take me a while to get it all nice , neat and tidy again. But I will get there LOL
Carl @carma glad you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Toby @abzoid I am glad the glass show was a success for you.
Bear @jpthings I am sure I still have Marypats address here , will send you an email through here later today . I plan on phoning Marypat. I have tried several times but I have always reached her message Bank. Hopefully she will be well enough now to answer the phone.
    Julie

  • @abzoid Toby - left you a note on "Vintage Glass" but will ask here too: Yard sale today had a yellow-green opalescent small crimped bowl with basket weave pattern & lace edge. I couldn't see a mark - any WAG as to who might have made it ?

  • @abzoid Toby - look closely @ the one in the listing. It has a ridge or lip where the lid sits - mine is clean from the upper band to the lip. Could it be a spooner?

  • @abzoid Toby - TYVM - it is amazing since it does not have a lip for the lid to rest on. And it is smallish for a candy jar.

  • @abzoid TOBY ... thank you so much for the help. I do not have that book. I have Phoenix & Consolidated Art Glass 1926-1980 by Jack D. Wilson. Couldn't find anything that looks like the candy jar in Wilson's book. I'll check and see if I can find the book at the library or elsewhere. Thanks again.

  • @abzoid Toby - TYVM for the ID - blew my mind when I googled it & checked prices for the "Twilight" pattern on eBoink. I did okay with my $5 purchase.

  • Good morning/afternoon, glassies. A night of no sleep, finally fell off about 5:30 am. Zowie!

@jmart8248 IRENE M and @abzoid TOBY ... I show PLEAT AND PANEL as having the OMN of DERBY. McCain has the date as 1882 and eapgpatterns.com has it at 1890.

TOBY ... I really have enjoyed the Bredehofts' Hobbs book. I have a very nice collection of books but DANG and double DANG if I can ever remember what I've read or even in which book I've read it in!!!! Curses! I did receive 2 books in the mail this morning so I'm going to have my head stuck in them this afternoon. Got Hopper's "Royal Ruby" and Antique Trader Perfume Bottles Price Guide.

HI to CARL, JANICE, GEORGE, & KATIE!

  • Good Morning everyone. Chilly again this morning and I was very reluctant to get out of my nice warm cosy bed LOL. Heading off this morning for a Market. Set up today and sell tomorrow. It is going to be even colder where I am going .brrrr I will be up very early tomorrow morning and walking /standing around on very frosty ground. Probably wet ground too.
Don @donscns As Carma said Fran has been posting on FB & MIke busy with his bar, I did send Marymelodee an email a couple of months ago, she says she has been busy with other things but she was going to try to pop in one of these days to catch up with us all. Kelli I am sure last time she posted said she had been busy with other things too. I do miss them all too.
Toby @abzoid I am looking forward to seeing your new items.
Gail @songbreeze Glad you managed to buy a few things
Char @charper99 Gorgeous vase but I am no help except to say I think I have seen similar somewhere. Not sure where to start looking. Wished I had the time this morning to sit and browse around the internet searching but sorry I have to get a move on shortly and head off.
Fran @fran2 I think some ppl just love to be nosey LOL and like knowing other ppls business
Helen @10bbg10 Thanks for the site
    Julie

  • Good afternoon, glassies. Busy morning but did get to one yard sale … bought a couple of little nothing pieces, but can probably turn a buck at the mall on them. Did by a very nice recliner. I’ve been wanting one for years and never up to paying what our stores in this area charge. I know the people who had this sale and their house is spotless so I knew it would be a good clean piece of furniture. It only cost $60 and they are getting someone to deliver it for me. Did have to race home and get the front room cleared of all the packing material, boxes, and auction-estate items I had strewn all over. 🙂

@abzoid TOBY … would love to see a pic of your items when you get the time.

@charper99 CHAR … were you following the instructions found over on the right-hand column here that says ”How To Post a Picture Link”? Wondering if it was giving you a problem and if we need to double-check our instructions.

@fran2 FRAN2 … thanks for posting Char’s photo. Absolutely beautiful vase but art glass is so totally out of my league so I haven’t got a clue.

HI to CURT, HELEN, GEORGE, CARL, and FENTON.

  • Good Morning everyone. Swimming was a No Goer again this morning. King Tides and storms have battered our beaches something fierce. And there was no sign of there even being a pool under all that surf.
Don @donscns I am so glad to read your seller was one of the sensible ones that knew how to pack fragile glassware
Gail @songbreeze I am glad your seller was easy to deal with and refunded your money
Toby @abzoid sorry you didn't win the item you wanted at Clums
Nancyjean @nona Glad to hear you are all Ok
    HI @dave

  • Good morning, glassies. I'm just slow and tired this morning and think I won't answer the phone all day today. 🙂 Will be interesting to see if I get anything accomplished today other than just sitting at my computer, staring into space, and sipping coffee.

The seller I bought the damaged bottle from sure was nice and refunded my money with no hassle.

@4931nextdoor ALICIA ... ah, the hardest bid to get is that very first one. I get frustrated when I have lots of watchers and no bid as I, too, think that the exposure on The Collector's Weekly helps. Good luck with your listings.

@donscns DON ... so pleased to hear you had such a fine experience with your latest purchase. You've really had some disappointments in the past.

@abzoid TOBY ... best of luck on the auctions. Hope you will be posting pictures of new acquisitions soon!

@gailmacphee GAIL MAC ... If only 2 or 3 of the items in Clum's auction showed up at a local auction, all of us dealers in this area would be trampling each other to get to it. I just can't fathom hundreds of gorgeous items all at once. Boggles my mind.

  • @abzoid : Glad the moulds did not end up in China, but we still may not be out of the woods. Fenton Gift Shops Inc. is not associated in any way with Fenton Art Glass Co. They are a privately owned company established in 1963. They manufacture glass, export glass and are also major importers of Italian glass, Arcoroc etc, and have many ties with overseas glass makers. So, some of those moulds COULD still end up leaving the country. Time will tell.

  • @abzoid Toby - just picked up 3 4 1/4" tumblers - Imperial Glass - Windmill pattern - Marigold & frosted - all signed for $5 @ yard sale - all are in perfect condition. Reasonable deal ???

  • Toby @abzoid - many thanks ! I am almost positive that the "wafer" was square. So I guess I lucked out.

  • Toby @abzoid - I, for one, appreciate proper terminology. I am sick of people saying "It's got a thingy around its you-know and has a funny gizmo running through it."
I mostly was offended by the comment that 90% of the people selling on eBay can't hold a job. What an elitest snob. He thought he was bragging when he made so much money that he wasn't afraid to bet $500 on a single black-jack hand. Geez - what a cheap skate ! I was a dealer on a jack table where $500 bets weren't permitted (too small).

Julie @wattleihavenext - the whole ID was along the rim under the cover "KIG INDONESIA".

  • Toby @abzoid - TYVM - Still think it is pretty !
BTW - a couple of those guys on Vintage Glass on FB were getting kind of nasty, weren't they? I'm sure that they never had a rough spot in their lives & never had to scramble to make ends meet.

  • Toby @abzoid - TYVM !!! Will probably list the crystal as a set, the rest individually.

  • Carl @carma - I thought I had the automatic feature checked - will verify - Thanks !

Toby @abzoid - Thanks - only problem now is should I differentiate the list cost by color ? I would assume that the Vaseline & green trays would list for more. Or would the Cobalt & Amethyst be higher ?

  • Toby @abzoid - are these available online or can they be researched @ a library ? I don't think I want to invest in book that may only be used once or twice.

  • Toby @abzoid - would the 50's or 60's be more realistic then ? My research on uranium dioxide says "used up until mid-60's as glass additive".

  • Toby @abzoid - if these two trays glow under UV, can one assume that they were made in the 30's?

  • Good morning, glassies. Little cold front moved in last night so we will only reach 75° today which will be a relief from the high 80s and low 90s we've been having.

@abzoid TOBY ... what good eyes you have! 🙂 I sure couldn't see the HA logo in those glasses.

@wattleihavenext JULIE ... how funny about the Indian Running Duck. I posted to the Glass Message Board last night and found out this morning that it is, indeed, a Murano duck.

@kasi KASI ... so good to see you posting and glad the doctors are able to help you. Good luck listing again...I don't think you will find it too different.

HI to AMBER, MARTY, and KATIE.

  • @wellingtonct Laurie wow you learn something new every day! I did NOT know how to enlarge a pic like that, but now, thanks to you, I do! Thanks for that info!

    And Hello all!

@abzoid Toby, I enjoyed those pics of your fabulous blue collection. The last ones of the overflow, looks like you have possibly a glowy vaseline glass plate in there? And those lovely pink glasses/stems? Welllll I have to say that they really don't go well with the blue so I think you should just send them to me as I collect ALL colors and I'm sure I can squeeze those in somewhere here 😉

  • Good evening to everyone. Back from the swap, weather was perfect.Beautiful cloudless clear blue sunny skies. Very cold and frosty first thing in the morning but once that sun came up over the hills, you couldn't have asked for any better 🙂 Plus I sold well as did everyone else. All stall holders I spoke to were very pleased with their weekend sales.Had a flat battery this arvo when I went to leave. No big problem I just got friends I travel with to jump start me and I was off!!
    Toby @abzoid love the glass!!!!
@amber thanks for keeping us updated on Shelly. I must send her an email
    Julie

  • HELLO to each and every glassie! I just got home from a funeral, and I am popped.

@abzoid TOBY ... thanks so much for sharing the wonderful pictures of your fabulous collection. I also very much appreciate the fact that you named the patterns. So often someone will post a pic but not tell what it is as though we are suppose to know. Well, I'm still in Glass Kindergarten so what I don't know would fill volumes. Really appreciate learning more.

  • Toby @abzoid - just got done viewing your FB pictures of the Opalescent Blue collection. Totally awestruck & so jealous !!!!! That is one beautiful collection !!!! Hope you have a good insurance policy !!!

  • Toby @abzoid - thank you - does BV of the crystal plates that match drop in price as is the case most of the time ?

  • What's that old expression... The hurrieder I go, the behinder I get ! Going to try with all my might to sit down and scroll the board.

@abzoid TOBY ... a very happy birthday to you today, and I just sigh and sigh and sigh looking at all your beautiful glass. Just gorgeous!

@reen REEN ... so good to see you back from vacation and posting on the board again.

@amber1986 AMBER ... what sweet words! (((((Hugs)))))

HI to KATIE, DON, NANCYJEAN, FRAN2, GEORGE, NANCYP, BOB, & GEORGE!

@sellingthings MARTY ... How very nice and I know you are proud of your DGS! Don't know what you mean by "opening a can of worms". You have an unidentified plate with an unidentified etch that has brought some very interesting information for people to research. I think everyone has enjoyed trying to piece a possible ID from the clues.

  • @abzoid/ Toby: I know that you mentioned how heavy hos glass shelves were when you put them in. Consider the weight that those shelf holders are bearing. i have had several friends that had a glass disaster when the small holders pulled out and pancaked the other shelves . I am certain that you are careful ,but it dos not hurt in mentioning the potential for the loss of a great collection if one shelf pulls the pins out. JimD

  • Good morning from cloudy NJ -- supposed to warm up tomorrow with t'storms and then back into 60s/70s.

    Happy Birthday, Toby @abzoid !!!!

  • @abzoid Toby that glass is just stunning! How many cabinets of glass do you have?
    Mary

  • Good Morning everyone. raining here atm. I sure hope it clears by tomorrow, cause I am heading off to a swap meet.
@amber1986 Thanks for updating us on Shelly's progress.
@carma sorry to hear of your loss
@abzoid Thanks for sharing pics of your glass. It is DDG!!!
    Julie

  • Good morning, glassies...well, good afternoon to half of you.

@abzoid TOBY ... what a gorgeous set and as KATIE said take pics start to finish on the new cabinet! WOW!

@baabaamason BOB in KY ... what a fabulous tumbler! Don't recall ever seeing that pattern either on the web or in a book. Will have to go back and look. I love it. I'm partial to tumblers and to cruets.

HI to SUE, DON, CARL, GEORGE, & KATIE.

  • @abzoid : The term "Banana Bowl" is a relatively modern term coined by collectors in the 1950's-1960's. I've yet to see any such shape being called such in the old circa 1900 ads. They were usually just called "large oval fruit bowls" in the old ads. Outside of a few major port cities, mostly in the south, bananas were not a widely available item back then. The vast majority of the people outside of major port cities had never even actually seen one, much less eaten one. Without modern refrigeration and rapid transportation methods, that was pretty much the case with any tropical fruits. They just were not available to the masses then. The fruit served in fruit bowls back then was mostly what could be grown locally: Apples, Pears, Peaches, Berries etc.......and even then, only when they were in season. It's something we take for granted today, but 100-110 years ago, fresh fruit was a luxury & not widely available.

  • @abzoid Toby if memory is right the Fleur dis Lis is a lily in French. Lily's do look kind of like an iris at least to early glass collectors and me.

  • @abzoid .....Toby I only drink tea but is it very dignified to drool into in the morning? Beautiful set; I am going to assume you stole it with today's market prices for opalescent. So, congratulations on a great find. Has your display cabinet arrived yet because you will certainly be needing it? 🙂

  • Good afternoon to all. Very stormy night all night so didn't get much sleep and, as usual, slept in awfully late. I don't know why I say "awfully late" as there actually isn't anything for me to be late about. My time's my own...well, and the dog and the cat's, but they didn't seem to care what time I woke up. 🙂

@justmim MIM ... so sorry to hear of your health problems. Gout can be so excrutiating. Do they have you on a special diet? I remember being so surprised when my friend had to quit eating peas as they have such a high uric acid content in them. (((((Hugs)))) As far as your son's birthday....I've always said it's terrible when your children are older than you are! My oldest turns 49....and surely I'm not that old! 😆

HI to KATIE, GEORGE, and CARL.

@shellyrae37 SHELLY ... it's just a piece on the new antenna that has to be replaced. It will only cost about $10 for the new transformer part. The headache is having to wait til my sister's friend is willing to climb a big ladder to replace if for me. Heaven knows even if I could climb the ladder I wouldn't have a clue how to replace it. It's not that I'm dumb...I could learn...but I don't want to and have nothing to prove by learning how. 😀

@itsagas BILL ... you and me both trying to figure out a "preferred" from and "ordinary" second. So silly probably. Maybe just a bunch of babble to make it sound better. Kind of like when townhouse became townhome, or used became pre-owned, or our nursing home became continuing care.

@abzoid TOBY ... now I'd be more than happy to buy something for $5 and sell it for $20. Really slim pickin's in this part of the land and being able to quadruple my investment is dandy. But, yeah, have to work really hard around here for that extra buck.

HI to JIM D and NANCYJEAN.

I hear thunder in the distance. Maybe more storms today. Needless to say, can't tune in the tv for the weather report. Doesn't matter though as the tv station will phone me if there is a tornado goofing around anywhere.

  • @abzoid/ Toby: The gift Shop sold "preferred seconds". Maybe they were a little off color, or something was wrong in the production so that it could be sold to the dealer.
    JimD

  • @abzoid Toby, maybe there were two people who are sorry they didn't bid on the bowl you won. Good for the seller.

@carma We have the same weather situation here in NJ -- very little rain (a few showers overnight) and brush fires throughout the state. As we also had almost no snow melt (our only big snowstorm was back in October), all of the rivers and streams are low. This is frustrating members of the kayak & canoe club I belong to -- this is usually the time of year when they paddle various of the rivers that are only passable in the spring. This year the levels are too low and they have to keep changing the location of their trips. As DH paddles in the Hudson River and on lakes, it's not bothering him (and as soon as I ditch this cold, I'll be joining him).

  • @abzoid Toby…… A week or so ago you were discussing US Glass only making one opalescent pattern, ”Palm Beach”. So was this you snagging this piece?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item27c5a73bc8&item=170819795912&nma=true&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&rt=nc&si=9dkFdvHf4GMoF5IxG%252Fa06QsD%252FA8%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

I also noticed that the tumblers did well:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item2a1bf42dae&item=180857613742&nma=true&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&rt=nc&si=9dkFdvHf4GMoF5IxG%252Fa06QsD%252FA8%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

It appears from checking completed listings that not much else in opalescent is moving right now except for a Peacocks on the Fence piece which may have been you as well.

  • @Abzoid and @oklahomasong-Gail, Thanks for your replies. I appreciate you both looking at my links. No, not cut crystal. That last picture might be a bit deceiving. It was taken, looking down into the vase and out from the inside. The outer pattern has that melted ice look, that you sometimes see on the old Fostoria American pieces. It may not be EAPG, but It is definitely pressed and has the look and feel of glass from that period. It is heavy, but not for it's size.

  • LOL @abzoid TOBY...you read alot faster than me! I was still stuck in 1994! I LOVE looking through these catalogs and just get lost in them.

  • @abzoid/Toby: nice piece.Nice buy. I suppose all the zealous collectors already had one. I remember when we were collecting Paneled Grape. You would blow someone out of the water on a scarce piece and two weeks later it could not get a bid. There were about four zealous collectors around the country. When everyone had one, it was no longer scarce.JimD

  • Good morning, glassies. Trying to get myself up and motivated, but it's going to require a bit more coffee first.

@donscns DON ... ai-yi-yi! I'm chronically early for everything I do. If I'm "on time", I consider myself late. I'd be a puddle of nerves if I waited this late to do taxes. End of January or beginning of February, whenever all the paperwork arrives by mail, I'm down at the CPA an knocking on their door. 🙂

@abzoid TOBY ... goodness gracious that is beautiful! What is the color...ice blue? opal ice blue? I never see anything like that except in books. We just have almost nothing around this area...I search high & low and get excited if I bring home a moldy toothpick. Too sad. 🙁

@shellyrae37 SHELLY & @suzy SUZY ... no ID yet on the green cruet and I guess I probably won't get one. Waltz from another board said he had several of those blown apple green pieces and they were ca. 1900, but never a definitive ID. Always such a hard sell without an ID.

Have to go wrap up some candlesticks I sold and get to the post office....

  • Good Morning Glass People

Well, I have put it off long enough. Time to do the taxes today.....hope to see you all later. 🙂

@abzoid Toby, check your Chatroom Board email. I sent you a message about some pretty blue glass.

  • @abzoid Toby please give your roomie my thanks. It is what I was looking for. Looks like maybe the claret was not made in colors.

  • @abzoid Toby - thank you very much => Pattern ? Any idea on BV or where I can get BV easily ?

    #2 - I know is NuCut - mark is inside over center hobstar : 7 3/4" X 4 3/8" X 1 1/4" Pinwheel & Hobstar pattern?

  • A good late morning to everyone.

@sellingthings Marty ... search FB for Early American Pattern Glass Society and it will pop up. Also, post your items here , too, so we can see them.

@george gabla GEORGE ... I'm not talking about the enamel decoration on the toothpick, it's the splotchy dark marks that seem to be IN the glass itself. Look at the underside picture of the toothpick where you can really see it.

@abzoid TOBY ... have never used Blackthorne. I use Auctiva.

  • Good Morning everyone Another picture perfect day ahead for us down under. I finally have my driveway done. I've only been waiting since January. But "too wet" is "too wet" so just had to wait for better weather.
Amber @amber1986 Keep up the good work on that therapy. OMG did we do some walking on my holiday!!! It was a holiday where we all ate heaps but no one gained any weight. I actually lost some 🙂
Shelly @shellyrae37 Tahiti would be nice.
Toby @abzoid OH NO!!! NOT two Mondays! 😆
Bear @jpthings Good Luck treasure hunting

  • Morning All,

@abzoid Toby - Thanks just waiting on getting approved by the group so I can post. I also love the second Monday comment 🙂

@wattleihavenext Julie - Thanks for looking appreciate it, Glad your feeling better.

Well today I am going to hit some antique stores in search of treasures, hopefully I will come back with lots. Hope everyone has a good day.

    Bear 🙂

  • @abzoid TOBY ... thanks so much for the additional information. I don't have that many references so of the ones I have that don't show lids I assume (wrongly) that they were part of the standard table set. So much to learn...so little time.... 😀

@jpthings BEAR ... I wondered if it were perhaps not an American pattern... maybe Canada or Europe. No longer have a viable link for pressglas.

  • @abzoid - Nice sugar, actually this rim has a slight roll to it and the flair seemed to make it not possible to have a lid along with no markings or evidence of a lid. I found two others on Ebay of course without ID, but one says it's rare and Victorian(G).. forgot what the other one said. Made me think of a tyg because I had a piece of Tiffany by spode I think that was the same exact shape and size and yes I drank Pepsi out of that one to(G)...... This one is now a mystery that I will keep trying to ID and just might end up keeping if I can't ID it because of the shape, do wish it was Ruby stained though 🙂

  • @abzoid TOBY ... there sure aren't many sugars without lids, but I can think of a few (unless, of course, I'm wrong 😯 ): Ferris Wheel, Heisey's Greek Key, Tarentum's Columbia, Northwood's Louis XV.

  • @songbreeze - I just put a request to join, I see several familiar faces over there, I like to visit and drool over the glass. You need to be careful and not to close to the monitor, you could short circuit it(LOL)

@shellyrae37 - Thanks for the look, I have been through the books, thought maybe Gail might have the magic search engine touch over on the EAPGpattern website. I am slowly getting better on searches over there.

@abzoid - Thanks for your input also, the shape of the top as it has a slight flair would never hold a top. It is comfortable to drink pepsi out of, though my thought was an open sugar bowl. I will check out Indiana, can't hurt as I was clueless, just figured the pattern would be easy to find(that should be my first clue) plus the price was great.

  • @justmim , ah MIM, cybercoffee never runs out and is always fresh regardless of the time of day or night and is either full strength or de-caf as needed. :D.

@abzoid TOBY ... that cabinet is truly DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! my my my my my . I can hardly wait to see it will all your beautiful blue opalescent Tokyo.

@donscns DON ... Would love to see a pic of your Swag with Brackets.

Have to get ready for evening Mass. Will catch up with you all later.

  • Good morning to all glassies.

@abzoid TOBY ... would love to see your new cabinet and glass when you get it all put together. Is it your blue Tokyo or do you have other collections too?

@shellyrae37 SHELLY ... I have a friend who takes Savella and is extremely pleased with it. I have to get busy and list today and tomorrow. Still a bit tired out though.

Well, I had 2 numbers and the Mega number so I think I won $10. I'll probably just buy scratch tickets with it. 🙂

  • @carma CARL ... thanks so much for the ID. I'm still trying to figure out where I've seen that before. I believe I saw it in ebony. Went to Stout's McKee book and read about it on page 97. Went to ChatAbout and found it described differently so posted it there as they might want to correct it. And their example was in black. Surley thank you for the help.

    ????????????
Now I may have posted this before. @abzoid TOBY, like you that type of blue makes me think Portieux-Vallerysthal but I can't find this anywhere. Of course, I've never gotten over how all the expensive PV goblets look identical to me to Imperials Provencial. Anyway here is this ivy ball if anyone has any ideas.

    http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/4/4/3/3/6/9/webimg/559810715_o.jpg

  • @abzoid TOBY ... thanks, I have limited Vallerysthal resources. A catalog I printed on-line and the 2 catalogs in the back of Newbound. Can't locate this dish in those and tried eBay listings. Frustrates me as I KNOW I've seen this dish before.

  • @abzoid TOBY ... oh, wow, then you had a rough night last night too with tornado watches and warnings.

  • @abzoid TOBY .... where do you live? You just perfectly described the weather here in NE Oklahoma.

@sellingthings MARTY ... you New Martinsville platter is possibly their #728 line called COLONIAL.

  • Toby @abzoid - Replacements calls it a "handled pickle dish" & I have seen it in a variety of colors now on the web.

  • Good Morning everyone. I am looking forward to when our daylight savings ends (I hate it with a passion) The sun is not rininghere now till almost 7a.m ..rediculous!!!!
Don @donscns & Toby @abzoid I have a cabinet down here that is almost empty. A few more swaps and you can come on down and get it 😆
Lainey @favoritegram They missed the most important part of the Trifle (how bits done down here) The sponge cake is soaked in Sherry 🙂
Reen @reeen sending postive thougths and (((hugs))))
    Julie

pssst 3 more sleeps and Bali here I come 😀

  • Good day to all glassies. One of those nights last night, toss turn toss turn...last time I looked at the clock it was after 3:30 am. Looking for the morning coffee, I see it's been a busy time in the chat room. So now with coffee in hand, ah, and with @justmim MIM's cookies 🙂 I am ready to scroll.

@donscns DON ... sure hope you get a chance to enjoy some of your Spring Break, but it does sound as though you've got quite a bit on your plate already and none of it is dessert yet.

Yep, I surely agree with @abzoid TOBY and @newtonenterprises JIM D .... avoid sherbets at all cost and any stemware with a needle etch. Also I avoid most stemware with a cutting rather than an etch.

@sewerrats ... never, ever, is it a bother to bring an item to the chat room for ID. That is our whole "reason for being." It's great fun and a great learning experience for all of us. But with that said, I have no idea who made your stemware. Also that is a "cutting" not an "etching" on your stems. That type of stem is usually referred to as a "lady's leg" and is found by many manufacturers so it's a hard one to pin down.

@fyrqueen KATIE ... I think you really are doing the right thinking opening a different account to link to PayPal. Photos are free on eBay but I believe it's a 10¢ fee to schedule a listing. If you have Auctiva, it is free to schedule. You will save yourself a ton of money if you use eBay to print your shipping labels and eBay's app called ShipSaver for insurance. They have a video tutorial to help you learn how http://ocs.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?CustomerSupport If you take the package to the post office and it's Priority you have to pay 85¢ for Delivery Confirmation. That's free when printed on-line..or if it's 1st Class or Parcel Post it's only 19¢ when printed on-line. The postage itself is cheaper when printed on-line rather than taking it to the PO.

Still scrolling but think I'll post this before I lose it..... 🙂

  • Good morning Glass Friends,
As mim says it is a beautiful morning here in Indy. A long list of chores in my work basket. One of which is to get DH to do the grocery shopping. I am trying to train him as this has not been one of his chores. Top of the list is getting him to ask where and item is when he cannot find it.

Another chore is to get more pictures. The out side light was right yesterday but it was too windy. In looking at the pictures in magazines it seems the professional photographer tries to show a little movement. Too much wind just doesn't work for that. LOL

@abzoid ---mim is a long time acquaintance and good friend. There should be no offense when she peeks under your hat. LOL.
Very interesting observation about sherbets and stem ware. I certainly will keep that in mind.
Helen or bbg Speaking of being called bbg, I wonder where wellie is. Maybe her computer has really clunked out.

  • Good morning Glass Friends,
Over cast and cool here in Indy. Have most of the address label ready. We failed to get the packages for Saturday to the PO before closing time. Guess I really ought to let the buyers know that their package will be later than expected.
Had a call from eBay this morning . Mostly , I think, for urging me to start giving the 14 day return. Guess I'll try to get that set up later today. I think it will be a real PIA for sellers. Wonder if we'll get by with 'buyer pays return shipping.' And returns accepted only if grossly mis-described.
I always have accepted returns . I just do not stated that in my TOS. Had one returned this last week because the size said 45" chest measurement when it really was only 44" ---- and a vintage sweater at that. Much more likely to be 'buyer's remorse".
For the first time ever I have had a couple of books returned in the past 60 days. Economy maybe ? I just don't know.
@abzoid -- You amaze me with the depth of your knowledge. And your willingness to share that knowledge. On my browser Marty's Star tumbler looks quite clear with no hint of amber. I have seen tons of that pattern. But never have seen any color except clear glass-- crystal. There is lots on the thrift store shelves right now. I do sometimes buy the pitchers.
    Helen or bbg
