Hi Folks: Thank you for the Birthday wishes. You guys never forget. 79, that is pretty damn old. I'm still buying and selling. Hubby had a stroke almost 13 years ago. I take care of him 24/7. He can get in the car, so I go hunting most every day. He waits in the car and people watches. Getting old isn't always easy, but as long as there are things you enjoy, every day is a gift.......Hope you are all well and thank you again for the birthday thoughts...........

Thank you for remembering me. At one point I messed up my login and I could never get back on. I just reset a new password and here I am......Thank you for the Birthday wishes, the years go by fast and furious it seems. So nice to see the familiar names on here. I am still out "hunting" most every day for goodies. No matter how old I get it is still always fun....Thank you all again for the Birthday wishes, and I'll be back.......

This is my little feral girl. I've had her in the house for 10 months. Was always a dog person, but I fed a couple of ferals outside. Haven't had any pets since the last dog, too expensive to keep up with the vets. So I just took care of the poor things. This girl was such a survivor, she was outside all last winter, had a bad leg problem and there was nothing I could do but put food out. One morning I went out to feed her and she decided she loved me. Got her shots, spayed (already pregnant) and she became my cat. She really gives me a lot of enjoyment.

Boy getting tired of looking at that darn weather map on tv with all that red over us. Tried to be prepared, but if the power goes off that is horrible in the bitter cold. You just can't cover all that. My husband has been coughing all day so that adds another worry on to me. He had a stroke 7 years ago and can't do anything to help me. Lucky we live in an in-law apt and my daughter and son-in-law are next door. Our whole yard is trees, they really scare me. Keep your fingers crossed for me that the wires stay up.

Fenton: What a great looking auction. Love that Vernon Kilns Blanding china. We don't have auctions like that in RI. My late brother in law lived in Ohio and he used to send us photos of some of the great auctions they used to go to. He collected Cambridge.
Feel bad for all the folks in Buffalo area. When we were trapped in the blizzard of 78, Buffalo sent some of the big V plows to get our streets open. They really knew how to move the snow. What a mess they are in.
Bob: I broke my ankle a couple of years ago, I feel for you. Got some screws and a plate. Couldn't walk on crutches. Went to rehab for a couple of weeks and they got me so I could get around a little on them. My grandson could go up and down the stairs on them when he broke his leg. Guess you have to be young and fearless. Used my husbands travel wheel chair in the house. I was so thrilled when they put the boot on and let me walk on it. Freedom!!!

Carl: I agree with Fran. Start your bowl at an opening bid of what would be your BIN price and you never know there maybe someone willing to pay a little more. I start all my items at what would be the least I would be willing to take. If I get my opening bid I'm happy if I get more I'm happier. You very rarely see Reserve Bids anymore. Used to be fun waiting to see if someone would hit the reserve. Now all it does is confuse people. gailmac

Hi: If you send anything Priority Mail it is automatically insured for 50.00. If the item is worth more, and you want it covered, you pay to insure. Only problem I have is a lot of my items seem to go cross country and if they are even a little heavy, or in a box larger than 12" it's too expensive to ship Priority. I have to ship Parcel and insure it. If I have a small light box that would ship First Class, but it has say a 40.00 item in it, I'll ship it Priority. I get the insurance and tracking and will cost about the same as First Class insured. gailmac

Carl: That is what I thought when I read it. Why would you put that on your listing. If the buyer isn't happy you are still going to pay the refund to the buyer, be kind of stupid not to at least get your item back. eBay isn't going to cover anything, they will get it out of your account anyway.
Watched a soccer game this morning at 9:30, 41 degrees and raining. We get there early enough so we can watch from the car. My grandaughters team won the rec. league championship. They made me so cold just watching.
Irene: I insure everything I ship over 20.00. You have to cover yourself. If it's not insured, and it breaks, you end up paying. gailmac

Seller does not offer returns. You are covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee - opens in a new window or tab if you received an item that is not as described in the listing.

I sold a xbox thing for my grandson. BIN. When I went to send an invoice, no shipping address came up, null etc. I called eBay. They said he didn't put one in when he opened the account. ???? How did he open an account? When you click on his zero feedback it said he was from Maylasia and had signed up in May 1914. Of course I tried to check on advanced search to see what other things he may have bid on, you can't even get bidder to come up in the search anymore. They told me to ask him for his address. ??? I wouldn't care if it was mine, but my poor grandson won't get paid for a while. Have to wait before I can relist it. gailmac

Irene: I agree with Bob. Once I list I don't change anything. If I get a lower or even a higher offer I tell them I'll relist with a BIN if it doesn't sell. Many times I have gotten a much higher bid than I expected. Years ago I had a Heisey Orchid candy dish on. Someone offered me 900.00, boy I was tempted. That same person ended up paying 2500. for it in the last few minutes. Was glad I didn't weaken. All it costs is a few days. gailmac

Hi: Just heard on the news that starting in the middle of November if you pay with PayPal, you will have 180 days to return your purchase. Seeing that Pay Pal and eBay are now going to be separate does that mean that we will not have to accept PayPal on eBay Sales. I would have no problem taking MO's and checks like the old days. I think my eBay days may be numbered. No way would I allow an 180 day return. What are they crazy.........gailmac

Hi: I used to be able to go to advanced and put a bidders ID in and I could see what they were bidding on and what they won. You would be able to tell if they bid on 100 items in a couple of days with 2 feedbacks, that you might not get paid. Now you get a list of their "collections" things that they like. Jeez eBay, give us sellers a break. I'm just venting a little...........gailmac

Gail: That's how I feel. With what I sell, the buyer should know within 10 minutes of opening the box if they are happy with it. One or two long term returns could wipe out the discount benefits. I'm not Macys or Target, I don't have these things built into my price. My first thought was that it was a way for eBay to get rid of a few 20% discounts for the Holidays. Most antique an collectible dealers can't afford to give that kind of refund policy. I need the money, but I will probably list less till after the New Year.
-
Gail Mac posted an update Saturday, Oct 4, 2014, 8:14am EDT, 9 years, 7 months ago
Hi: I know a lot of people don't list as much on eBay. Is anyone that lists going to do the long Holiday return thing. I don't like to lose my discount, but that is a long return. I think by the way they are advertising it, people that wouldn't even think about returning an item 90 days later, might think about it. I haven't had an item returned in years, but seems to be like opening a can of worms. I sell a few things for other people and I wouldn't want to pay them and then have to go looking for the money back from them 3 months later. I didn't think about it but I listed an item yesterday and the little notice says need to edit to get Top Seller discount, and it's that Holiday return policy.....Any input....gailmac

Carl: I think we have had some theft in just about every shop we have been in. Lots of small things that were no big loss. I always felt that the good things that were taken were by other dealers. 5 Cherry Blossom tumblers didn't go out under someones shirt. A friend of mine had a space in a big time shop in Vermont. They made a trip up to stock it. They put a few really nice Jadite pieces in including a large refridgerater water jar in a locked case. They stayed over and went back the next morning, 3 pieces were already gone, they were thrilled, but they were just gone, not sold. That was an inside job. They got out shortly after. The shop partially covered some, but you don't want to put the great pieces in a shop that isn't safe. Even the locked cases are no guarantee. gailmac

Hi: I have been selling on eBay since 1999. It really has changed a lot. Why I stay is for the few things that I sell that go so much higher than I thought they were worth. I'm in one nice group shop and I juggle things back an forth. Before my husband took sick we were in group shops in 3 NE states. We would travel around and it was like vacation all the time. When he got sick it stopped. Now I have to stay local and I hold my own, but it just seems like eBay is putting their foot on my neck just to see how much I will put up with. I think letting the buyer print a return lable might be a tipping point for me. Rules like that just encourage the not so nice buyers. gailmac

Bob: Thank you I really appreciate it. So much better to list it with a name instead of a guess. Yesterday I picked a beautiful blue Caprice console bowl. I didn't pay a lot, but they just don't sell for much anymore. I am still living in the past, can't pass up a beautiful piece of elegant.
Got a guy in Italy that's mad at me. He bought a couple of items, not mine consignment, and he wanted me to put a low price on the customs form. He said how bad the postal service was in Italy (red flag). My consignor paid the difference and we shipped priority insured. I told him that was how it was coming. Thought we did him a favor. If it went missing with a 24.00 insurance or no insurance (First Class) He would have put in a claim on me for the full amount for sure. No tracking or insurance and the seller is out, eBay makes you pay the buyer. I sell a few international packages, if it's something low price I ship First Class to most countries. Usually if they buy something expensive they are willing to pay the customs, goes with it. -

I thought maybe I could maybe double my money if someone has the pattern and just want's to display it. I just wondered if they did both style handles. My depression book picture looks like this plain one and the ones listed on eBay all seem to have the ribbed ones. 40 years ago depression was my first love, now I pass up most of it unless it's really cheap. There don't seem to be any young collectors anymore. I see things now that I would have run the length of Brimfield for, now I just walk past. Some things do still give me a little extra heart beat. Can't run anymore either...

Bob: I don't think I have ever sold to the underbidder. I think sometimes they are happy they were outbid on their highest bid. I had a case like that 2 weeks ago, bidder said he put the wrong bid in and didn't want to pay that much, would I cancel. I figured it was easier to cancel his bid and relist, it was a desireable piece. Didn't waste time with the underbidder. I got 100.00 more the second time. Sometimes the onlookers wish they had bid, and do when it's relisted.

Thanks for looking Shelly. My first thought was Paden City, but nothing there either.
Don: Thanks for the heads up on the packing. Might look like a good idea at first. -

Shelly and Marty: Hope you are both feeling better soon.
Carl: Hope you miss the big snow, we are getting 1 to 3. Hope that is the end of it. It's been cold here, but not as cold as you. The older I get the longer the winters seem to be. Can't wait for the Forsythias..................gailmac -

Gail: Years ago my parents had a cat. He was a gentle boy except when he had to have medicine. We used to fight over who was going to be the "holder". We used to wrap him in a towel and no matter what a tight wrap we had, the holder ended up bleeding. I can remember my father saying I didn't know cats could spit. Always wondered how much medicine he actually got past his throat. Cat's can be tough if they don't want to do something. Hope she recovers quickly. gailmac

It is a good morning. We dodged a bullet with the snow. Coast of RI is going to get a couple of inches but we will get a dusting. Yea......Feel sorry for those south of us, they are getting the brunt, it stayed south.
Julie: Can't wait to see some green grass.......even some brown. gailmac -

Don: Those sets are just beautiful.
Gail: I've had the Bridal Bouquet pattern before, but this is the first time I knew it's name. I didn't pay much for it and I left a big console bowl behind. Just too hard to sell.
My best buy this past week was a lot of American Girl Doll clothes and odds and ends. My grandaughter has a collection of them, although my daughter has been a doll person all her life. She likes them. They identified what went with what doll and I listed them separate. If you run into any, most have to be tagged, don't hesitate if the price is right. Lot of people are interested in them. As good as glass.
I got on Listia, to try to get rid of some things that are just gathering dust. You give them away for points and then you can buy things on the site with your points. Lot of people do free shipping, I charge a minimum price for shipping, and I only do small things, cups and saucers etc. Problem, I have trouble finding things that I want to buy with my points. It's kind of addictive. -

Getting so tired of this winter. All I want to do is sit on the couch with my quilt. Have to really push to get things done. More snow coming Monday. I waited outside for my grandaughter to get off the school bus. It was the longest 5 minutes, so darn cold. I can't imagine the hottest day of summer being this miserable. March tomorrow, maybe Spring will come soon. gailmac

Carl: I was sorry to hear of the passing of George Bernheimer. He was a good guy and and ran a wonderful place. Nothing like it since. Used to run into him at shows and Brimfield. He never forgot his old "dealers". gailmac -

Carl: Have you been to the School House Antique Mall in Brewer. It was on my FB page.
Not bitter cold here today. We are going to get serious rain tomorrow, but you guys up north are going to get more snow. Every day without snow is a gift this time of year. gailmac -

Hi: I have another NPB, Sellers are beginning to leave negative feed backs in the positive. Right now they have won 260+ items. They pay for a few and ignore the rest. I wonder if the sellers that leave the negatives file a NPB. You can't leave a feedback after you close a case right. There are at least 6 bad feedbacks, should be gone after 3........I've had about 4 NPB this month. Never been like this, eBay better tighten up the ship. gailmac

Reen: It upsets me that the rights of most people in this country are tossed aside so as not to "offend" a few. Our govenor of RI last year would not allow the tree in the State House to be called a Christmas Tree, this year he changed his mind after the uproar last year. Said it could be called a Christmas Tree, but he wasn't going to be here to light it. Good, it's lit and it's a Christmas Tree........Merry Christmas to you and yours........gailmac
