• Hi all. I just wanted to stop by and wish you all a belated happy New Year! Hope you all had a nice holiday. Whether you celebrate Christmas or Chanuka I hope you spent it with those that matter.

  • Well Good morning everyone! Long time no see. Thought I would stop by real quick and visit with old friends. The real quick part will be a challenge. I barely started scrolling and saw the birthday wishes! Thank you @Julie , @jerseystar/NancyP , @Marson, and @Fran2 .
Even though I have been MIA for quite awhile you took the time to send birthday greetings to someone who quite possibly might not even see them. You all put a big smile on my face. What a great way to start my day. Thank you again.

  • Good Morning everyone. i had a notice in my email box that my name had been mentioned here. I just want to say Thank You to those of you who took the time to offer their condolences.Alicia

  • Good morning all.

@Carma48,Thank you. I was hoping you would weigh in on that. You could very well be right about my Bushel Basket.I have went back and forth trying to decide that myself( finally reached the aqua conclusion after finding an aqua opal example) but without a doubt you are more qualified to make that call. Either way I think a Happy Dance is in my future. I paid less than five dollars total for the Bushel Basket AND C F Monroe/ Nakara trinket box!

Julie, Yikes 111 degrees. thankfully that kind of heat is behind us for this year!

Wendy, Thanks .If i ever get back to listing things they should both do well. I haven't listed anything since before we lost our daughter. I really need to clear things out but I dread trying to catch up on all the Ebay changes. UGH!

  • Fenton, Wooo hoo! Thank you. I don't find much old carnival in the thrifts around here. I'm lucky to come across a piece, once a year(if that). It's mostly 70's Indiana glass.

  • C.F. Monroe, Nakara Trinket Box

    Northwood Aqua(?) Bushel Basket

Oh and this one is just for fun! DH at our #2 daughters annual Halloween party.

  • Hello dear Glassies. I know it's been a while since the last time I checked in, so that made the birthday greetings from Marson, Nancy P, Lainey, George, Gail, Shelly, Julie and Wendy (I hope I didn't miss anyone) extra special and appreciated! Thank you all!

DH took me out to dinner to celebrate at one of my favorite places.I had the tri-tip and it was beyond a doubt, the best piece of beef I have ever had. Then we got together with our girls and their families on Sunday for a joint celebration of my birthday and a gender reveal for DD#4. It's another girl(her third). I thought for sure it was a boy but was secretly hoping for another girl. So that makes grandchild number 8(3 boys and 5 girls).

I have slowed down on my glass shopping. The thrift stores seem to have dried up around here but I did manage to find a couple good finds in the last few months and as you all know... that is all it takes to light that fire again! The first one is a Northwood, aqua(?) carnival glass, 8 sided Bushel Basket. The second piece is a Nakara, C. F. Monroe, trinket box with the original silk lining still intact! I will try to post pictures, in a separate post ( just in case I mess up and lose everything).Everytime I stumble upon a good find while I'm out and about I think back to those first glass discoveries and the road they have lead me down and the wonderful glassies that I have learned so much from!

  • Good Morning every one. Just wanted to stop by.

Ashley(DD2) and Sierra (DD5) came over yesterday and helped me start painting the front bedroom. It sure needs it. I can see where this is going to lead. You spiff one thing up and it makes everything else look worse! lol

GEORGE and SUE , Happy Belated Birthday!

REEN, I hope you feel better soon.

  • Good Morning everyone.

KATIE DELANO What a peaceful looking picture. That is some driveway!Out here they would call it a road! Then squeeze in a few condos and a strip mall!

CARMA, Yikes! A bobcat in the yard! I'll take your word for it ( from a very long distance) that they won't bother you if you don't bother them. Out here every year at least a few hikers are attacked by mountain lions in the local canyons and surrounding foot hills.

SHELLY, sorry to hear about Betty. Unless you have ever gasped for air you have no idea how frightening that can be.
I saw that you finally took the leap and joined Facebook. I sent you a friend request.

GAIL, Have you been in touch with the American Cancer Society? They are amazing! They will help out in all kinds of ways. They have programs that will provide rides to treatment and if necessary even hotel accommodations for you (and/or a family member), if travel is a obstacle to your treatment.

JULIE, Sorry to hear about your Mum.Your morning meme really hit home this morning.

A year ago today we said Goodbye to our eldest daughter. It still seems like a bad dream but I am 365 days closer to the day I will see her again.

  • Good Morning everyone
We had some exceptionally gorgeous weather this weekend, even by southern California standards. This winter sure has run the gamut. We actually had several inches of snowfall, on New years eve in some of the valley areas. It stuck around for a couple days and there was enough to break out some sleds. i don't ever remember that happening in these areas before

SHELLY You are silly, of course it will be noticed! Have a safe trip. I'm glad to hear that you convinced DH to go with you.

WENDY, Geeze here you are already starting on next Christmas and I haven't even finished putting away this Christmas? Does it seem to anyone else that the Christmas stuff never seems to fit back in the same places that you kept it before?

GAIL, You and your health team are in my prayers.

Glass question? Does anyone have a timeline for the years that the different green hues were used by Blenko? I bought a pre-designer #68 vase at the thrift store a few weeks back. Only to discover...yikes,
Blenko made a lot of different greens! I know that some were only made during certain years,so if I can narrow it down to the greens used prior to 1946, it would be a big help.

  • Good Morning everyone.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. For the last 25 plus years we have always spent Christmas at my sister's(the only sibling I have in California) with her family and our five girls and their families. Since our eldest daughter died in March, her husband wasn't sure whether or not he and the three grandkids would be up to the hour and a half drive. Christmas without her was going to be hard enough, I didn't even want to think about what it would feel like without any of them. So you can bet that, I was over the moon when just as we were sitting down to prime rib, he and the kids walked in the front door!Truthfully I was dreading Christmas this year, but in the end it turned out beautiful

Since CARL mentioned movies, that reminds me of a warning that I want to pass along. DH and I were at the market yesterday. They had a Red Box Movie Automated Kiosk, so we stopped to see if there were any movies that we wanted to watch. The man in front of us was returning a movie. Once he left Dh and I were looking at the selection when the disc that had just been returned popped back out of the Kiosk along with an error message. The man was already gone so Dh just redeposited it. About a minute later it ejected it again. He gave it a few more tries with the same results. We didn't want to just leave it there, because we were afraid that someone would take it, so we called the manager over. She tried and had the same results. So she suggested we call the owners of the kiosk, since she wasn't responsible for the kiosk. We tried that and got the dreaded automated system, that just took us in a loop for 10 minutes. Finally Dh gave up and just decided to take it with us and try a different kiosk on the way home. Finally, success! So the warning is ... Wait and make SURE your dvd return has been successfully accepted before you walk away!

CARL, The high today is supposed to be about 54 degrees in the valleys. That's cold by California standards. I can't imagine it only getting up into the teens!!

GAIL, Those breathing issues worrisome. Cold air can make things worse so try to stay indoors. I know I am probably wasting my cyber breath but....try to take it easy and practice saying "No". LOL

JULIE, I like to think of those sort of co-incidences as "hellos" from heaven.

BOB, So glad to hear your furpals are back home with you.

    LAINEY, Happy Birthday!

  • Hello Glassies. Stopping by to see if anyone has heard anything on GAIL. Wasn't her procedure supposed to be done today?

SHELLY, I can't believe I missed your birthday. Happy belated birthday! I hope it was half as special as you are.

BOB, Your long awaited reunion with your furever friends made me tear up. Hopefully they can be home with you soon.

JULIE, I can't believe that much time has went by. What a sweet way to teach little Miss P and her brother D about the ones that have went before us. Making new happier memories to ease the day.

MARYMEL Glad to see you popping in. I hope your health issues are in the past.

NANCY, We can sure use this rain but I am glad to hear the sun came out for you. Thanks for asking how I was doing. Healthwise I am holding my own and as one of our glassies used to say "mostly upright and vertical" lol

CARL, That feedback would irk me too. Hope you found a way to reply.

  • Good Morning glassies. It looks like I've got a lot of catching up to do. I have scanned back to last Monday but will have to catch up more later.

WENDY, Happy Birthday! This birthday cake reminded me of you. http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/fc/6a/c3/fc6ac39dbb4c578e2e9552f7e41767f2.jpg

BOB, It's good to see you posting here. I had seen your post on a couple of the FB pages and wondered how you were getting along.

GAIL, I will definitely keep you in my prayers. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now ( i hope it is at least a GLASS Plate LOL). What is a broncoscopy and why do you need it.?

SARA, I hope 2015 brings easier times for you and your husband.

NANCY, Oh that's right, I remember now. You and your DH usually make your way out to the west coast about this time of year. Don't you have family down around San Diego? 😉

SHELLY Thanks for the mention last Monday. It's nice to know that out of sight doesn't always mean, out of mind.

KATIE DELANO, LOL@ night music. I never heard it put that way.

REEN, sorry to hear you are feeling stiff and sore. Before DH had his pain pump put in, one of the few things that would bring him a little bit of relief, was a little heat pack that the Dr suggested. It was made by filling a clean sock with rice and tying it off. You could then heat it in the microwave and concentrate the heat in the exact spot causing the pain.

  • Thank you everyone who took the time to send birthday greetings. They were the icing on the cake( make that birthday cake lol). It's been a great day.I got to spend time with a few of the grandkids, a couple of my good friends dropped with surprises and DH took me out for prime rib dinner. I am officially a year older and thankful for every candle on that cake.

  • Hello everyone.

Shelly if your candlesticks measure 9 5/8 inches tall, they are Diamond Glass-ware Co. Scroll down to the second row, last picture. They are identified as blown-molded candleholder-vases.

    http://www.shetlarglass.com/stretchglass/SGCompanies/Diamond/Diamond5.htm

  • Good Morning everyone.

DON, Glad your feeling better. Working with little ones you are bound to be catch some of what they are passing around. I don't know if you have tried it but I highly recommend Cold-eeze. Taken at the first sign of a scratchy, sore throat or other symptom of a cold coming on REALLY does stop it in it's tracks! I have COPD and CHF so for years, the slightest cold/respiratory infection usually progressed to the point where I ended up hospitalized at least once every winter.I have never had much luck with any of the mineral/vitamin/supplement cure, kind of thing, but the last two winters have been cold free! You do have to take it at the very first sign of the virus though.

KATIE, Praying for a speedy recovery for your DH. Hopefully the tests will rule out anything serious.

  • Carl, Thanks for your imput. There is a lot of sense in the argument that you make. I thought it was interesting( but confusing)
that even though the Whitmyer book makes that disclaimer, they still listed the #6 swan bowl under the list of items made in this color.

  • Good Morning everyone.Phew what a full week we have had. I finally have a chance to catch my breath. The last week of October gets us every year. It begins with DD#4s birthday Oct. 25th, Then DGs# birthday Oct.26, then DD#2s birthday Oct. 29, next is DD#5s birthday on the 30th and finally of course, we finish up with Halloween on the 31st. Jerry likes to point out that if you count back nine months you will be able to figure out what he got for his birthday every year. I always tell him"Thank God I discovered the wonder of gift cards!" LOL

GLASS QUESTION, From what I have been able to find, Fenton acquired the mold for this bowl from Dugan. A Google search turns up examples in mainly pink, and green and a soft teal color. However I haven't been able to find much on this amethyst example. The Whitmeyers, Art Glass 1907-1939, says that the amethyst or Wisteria examples may have been made by Dugan before Fenton acquired the mold and that there is no written evidence that Fenton produced this bowl in this color. Does anyone know if any new info has been found? Is it Fenton or is it Dugan?

  • Good Morning everyone. I was just stopping buy for a quick scroll. I had problems getting on the board last week but I see I wasn't the only one.

I have a question for the glassies. I bought a Victorian, enameled, panel optic, tumbler, at the thrift store yesterday. At first glance ot looks like Rubina, but when held to the light you can see that it is an applied stain. My question is this. Is there a term to described this blended cranberry stain treatment to the top half of the glass?

SHELLY, Good to see you back. So nice that you were able to stretch your break to three weeks.

GAIL, Lucky you! Going to see your grandbabies! You have more than earned this well deserved break!

JULIE, Somehow I don't think that the visual that I get picturing all the Aussie fishermen in thongs is quite what you meant. ROTFLMAO

REEN, Peach cake? I am a sucker for anything with peaches, but that's a new one for me. What type of cake would that be? Like a pineapple upside down cake or more along the lines of an apple spice cake?

KATIE, Thanks for the FB link. I will check into that.

DON, You find the prettiest things. Sorry I can't help with your pitcher, but if you find yourself getting stressed out or frustrated with the search I would be glad to help. Just send it to me. You know what they say...Out of sight, out of mind.

Irene, I hope everything went well with your cataract surgery.

  • Good Morning everyone.

I really wanted to share this link with all of you. The first time I tried I got the link wrong so I accidentally deleted the whole post trying to fix it, grrrrr. This Jazz singing little girl with start your day with a smile. She is amazing! I spent yesterday afternoon listening to some of her other videos. She will blow you away even if you are not a fan of the genre!

I wanted to say Thank You to those of you who sent prayers and well wishes. I wanted to thank you each individually by name but at this point I can't rely on my memory( the Dr. said that will get better) and I can't get the board to load that far back for me, So I guess a mass Thank You, is the best I can do.You will never know how much they were needed and appreciated. My daughter said that when I came to, I told her that "I think I saw heaven." I don't remember that but I do know that we experienced a miracle that night. The paramedic who responded that night came back to visit me and said that in his 27 years at this job, I was a first for him.He said he could count the number of people that he has seen come back after being gone as long as I was and none of them ever recovered enough to live outside of a nursing home environment. He couldn't believe it when I came to in the ambulance and was able to respond to his questions at all, much less coherently. So Thank You all!

    @fyrqueen Congratulations on your anniversary!

@songbreeze Those cowboy boots are adorable! Can you make them in adult slipper sizes?

  • Good Morning everyone. It is not quite 7:00am and it is already 82 degrees outside. They are saying that cooler weather is coming, but it can't come soon enough for me.

@JimD Today is my granddaughter Mattie's birthday too. She is turning 6. I figured as long as I already have the oven on what's one more cake. Hope you enjoy it.

    http://m5.i.pbase.com/g5/06/408506/2/67538715.H5R8dag5.jpg

  • Good Morning everyone. It is supposed to be another hot one here today. It topped 100 yesterday and the next few days are supposed to bring more of the same.

@donscn, Wow! Those are some gorgeous table sets!

@reen, Those are awful. The only times I have ever suffered with leg cramps, was when I was expecting my girls. DH would be woken from a sound sleep to find me doing some of those deep breathing exercises and hunched over, trying to reach my legs to massage the cramp out,( which of course wasn't possible because my stomach was in the way). It used to scare the heck out of him. He thought I was in labor and he was going to have to deliver a baby. LOL

Well I guess I should get some of my errands done before the worst of the heat hits.

  • Good Morning everyone.
I have found a couple goodies at the thrift store lately. One of them was a small, 3 1/2", Daisy and Button with Crossbar, canary stem. It holds less than 2oz. I think it's the cordial. Does anyone know for sure?

@jerseystar27 Very nice booth. I hope your not too sore. I hate to ask...but have to know. Was any glass hurt? LOL

@JimD, I'm clueless. What is a thunder shirt?

@wattleihavenext , and @jmart8248 Yep blond moments..we all have them. LMBO at Julie's story about the ATM because that happened to Jerry and I just the other Day. My youngest totaled her car so she asked us to go to the bank for her. The branch Jerry and I use has only been open about a year so everything is newer (all touchscreen). We pull up in the drive through and around about the third step, it says enter pin number. Jerry says "Where the heck is the touch pad" Well I don't see it either so we figure he did something wrong, so we start over. Same thing again. "Well maybe it is on the next page. Hit next." Nope. Start over again. Then start over again. About that time, I told him "I feel like we are on one of those hidden camera shows." By this time I was only half joking. I look around and I see it! A manual keypad to the right of the touchscreen, but it has a tinted plexiglass hood on it that obscures the numbers from anyone lurking nearby. Oh my goodness. We laughed so hard!

@wjweese Wow, great job on the tree skirts! They a amazing. Especially Big Momma!

@george I thought of you the other day. I was at the thrift store and someone had donated a collection of different colored Geogian tumblers. I almost picked up the 3 best ones(they were only .95 each) but put them back. They were apple green, ruby, and a light blue with the seam going around the hexagon.

@fyrqueen, You are a gutsy lady! There is no way I am getting out of my bed in the middle of the night, to see what that sound is! I can handle a little mouse but... until you open the door, you don't know what it is. If it was anything bigger I would have had to change my jammies! lol

  • Good Morning everyone. I just wanted to stop in and say hello. I haven't had a chance to scroll yet and haven't been here for a few days, so I got some catching up to do .Did anyone else have problems loading the board recently?

  • Good Morning everyone.
I think I may have had a genius idea for a DIY ( in five minutes or less) photo box! If it works out I’ll share! Can anyone tell me what type of bulbs I can use in a standard lamp to get the best results in my homemade light box?

WENDY, Have you seen the money people with crochet skills are raking in over on Etsy? I have a friend who made an assortment of these for baby Riley. She finds the patterns free online and whips them up in an hour or two. I keep trying to get her to sell them but she doesn’t have any interest except as gifts for friends.
    https://www.etsy.com/search?q=crochet+photo+props&order=most_relevant&ship_to=US&page=2&spelling_accepted=chrochet+photo+props
GAIL, Your friend was blessed to have you in her life. Take a really deep breath and a day off. You have more than earned it.

REEN, I agree with Wendy, That is hilarious. It would definitely draw some attention to JULIE’s booth!

JULIE, Glad your home safe and sound and the wind wasn’t too bad. When and where is your next one.

  • Hello, everyone.

Jerry and I are watching 5 year old Mattie this morning and we decided to go to the thrift store. I told her to get her shoes on and then took another look at her short set and said "Mattie are those clothes or are they your pajamas? She thinks about it for a second and nonchalantly says" Umm.. I think we should just call them clothes. LOL ohh that kid. She had a great time acting as my glass spotter, but was a bit unhappy when we went to pay and I put a controlled bubble, sommerso, bowl back. I explained that Gramma doesn't have enough room for ALL the pretty glass and she replied' I have an idea Gramma...How about you give me your some of your glass then you will have room for more!" Uh Oh ... she's got it young! LOL

KATIE, I AM impressed! I don't remember the last time my dining area looked that nice! I wish I had your and NANCYP's willpower.

LYNN, I love autumn too. It's my favorite time of year! We got to take a trip to Indiana last October just in time for the peak of the Autumn colors. It was so beautiful. I posted so many pictures on Facebook of the trees, that my sister said she felt like she was trapped in a jigsaw puzzle! LOL

    GAIL, What is 11Main?

    DON, Oh my!
Those silly people don't recognize a covered sugar when they see it. LMAO!

  • Hello, everyone.

SUZY, JULIE, SHELLY, GEORGE, FRAN2, NANCY P., Katie D., and Wendy Thank you! Your cyber hugs, sympathy, understanding and encouragement help more than you will EVER know!

Jerry and I just got home. My best friend and her husband invited DH and I to join them at the Pala Indian Casino/Resort for a couple days. Jerry and I don't gamble much but thought it would do us good to get away for a couple days. It was a nice change. The highlight was the all you can eat lobster, crab legs, and prime rib buffet! I stuck with the lobster. It was soooo good.

wjweese/Wendy, so far Jerry is really happy with the results of his pain pump. If you suffer from uncontrolled back pain you should ask your doctor if you might be a good candidate for the procedure. Great find on the Dugan vase!

Shelly, I hope the shade fit's. If the measurements are close, it should fit. The shade rings are standardized sizes. I love that style of lamp.

Julie, Have a safe trip and sell, sell and then sell some more!

Nancy P., Good for You! "The point is to get rid of stuff" maybe I should embroider that on my wallet! LOL

Katie D. Congratulations on selling your Royal Ruby.I have a few pieces I have collected to use with my red transferware collection, at Christmas time.

Bob in KY, Hmmm... A farm machinery auction. I have no doubt that you will manage to sniff out some glass. You have that kind of luck! LOL

  • Good Morning everyone.

GAIL and anyone else who wears glasses. Make sure to pick up a written copy of your eyeglass prescription including pupilary distance. I discovered this great site for glasses. Complete single vision glasses start at $6.95. At those prices you can match every outfit in your closet or just have a backup pair to keep on hand. They have thousands of frames to choose from. I gave up on wearing sunglasses because prescription ones are so expensive and I lose them too easy, but I got a great pair complete with anti glare and scratch guard for under 20 dollars, including shipping! http://www.zennioptical.com/

REEN and IRENE, Thanks little Riley has been a lifeline in many ways.

I did something Sunday that I want to share with my glassie friends. Five months ago yesterday, My life (and my families) was turned upside down by a phone call. The "call" every parent prays they never get. We weren't given many details. Just that our 36 year old daughter had been rushed by ambulance to the hospital and told that we needed to get to the hospital as quick as possible. The hospital was an hour away. When we got there we were told that our beautiful 36 year old daughter (our oldest) had suffered sudden cardiac arrest and was currently on life support. She never regained consciousness and passed away the following evening. Some months before she died she had been diagnosed with an abnormal heart rhythm and underwent an ablation procedure to rectify it. To celebrate that success she used her actual EKG, to design this tattoo and had it placed across her heart. Her sisters and I decided to get the same tattoo (of her heartbeat) in her honor. I had mine placed across my wrist directly above my pulse, so that with every beat of my heart, her heart will beat again. If you would have asked me 6 months ago if i could picture myself with a tattoo, I would have laughed. I miss her so much...

  • JULIE, Welcome back! From your FB pictures it looked like a beautiful site. Jerry and I have been wanting to take the grandkids camping, but can't seem to get every ones schedules synced. Since our last trip three more of them have joined the eligible ranks. Meaning they are potty trained. I don't do diapers on camping trips. LOL

SHELLY and SUZI, Thank you both. I think we'll keep her. 😀 Just kidding of course.

  • SHELLY. I forgot to mention , a quick search on Ebay under "amethyst glass lamp shade" brought up two shades that match your lamp. One was $30 something and the other was $63 with free shipping. They had a complete lamp also with a buy it now for $199.

  • Good Morning everyone.

    Jim, Happy Birthday!

GAIL, Oh they are just ADORABLE! Little Ava looks like her Daddy!

    SHELLY, You did good!

Suzi, You crack me up @ Coast to Coast beauties.

Did someone mention grandbaby pics? LOl Here are a couple that I took of our newest family member. Riley Vannessa.

@Marymelodee I want you to know that I pushed really hard for the name Bailey ( Ok confession time…I have loved that name name ever since you first announced your eldest grand daughters birth, That’s why I remembered) but Momma and Daddy went with Riley.

  • Happy Sunday everyone. I haven't been by for a couple of days. DH spent the better part of last week in the hospital, having a pain med delivery pump implanted, to help with the pain from an older failed spinal surgery. We have a visiting nurse coming out every other day to check on the two incision sites so that has been a big help. So far he is thrilled with the level of comfort he has experienced.

MaryMelodee, Congratulations on you new bundle of love! Is she Bailey's little sister?

Shelly, The purple lamps are really pretty. Lucky you, I love when you stumble upon those kind of sales! It couldn't happen to a nicer person. Let's see some pics.

Dorbitz/JimL, I can't believe it's already August! I was in the store the other day and they had their Halloween stuff out!

  • @Reen, I tried that search, but it brought up too many of the celestial themed moon and star cakes. I was hoping to find one themed around the EAPG pattern that Nancy collects, Moon and Star aka Palace. hmm.. does the fact that my mind even thinks of that indicate the need for a glass intervention? lol

  • Nancy, I'm glad you liked them. I tried to find a Moon and Star cake but no luck. Wouldn't that be a really cool cake though? Then you could serve it on a matching Moon and Star cakestand!

  • Good Morning Everyone.

Nancy, Happy Birthday ! I just couldn't decide between these two cakes http://www.dreamdaycakes.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/kayak-cake-07.jpg or http://chocolate-earth.co.nz/wp-content/gallery/specialty-750-1000/guitar-kayak-cake.jpg . The first one looks like you but the second one cracks me up!

Shelly, I love family reunions. Family, food and fun always add up to a great time.

Gail, Now that was a nice little surprise. Congrats on your Ribbons. Treat yourself to a nice dinner the next time it's just too hot to cook!

Reen, Thirty four years is definitely something to celebrate! Hope your on the mend soon.

Bob, you always find the coolest stuff. That's a gorgeous color on that plate!

Suzy, I'm glad you liked it. It's hard to go wrong with the Beatles and the Three Stooges. Lol

  • Good Morning glassies.

    @suzy Happy Birthday! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ5NYhDdqQ8

@reen Our local paper used to carry an Ask The Doctor column. Someone wrote in and asked him if he had ever heard of putting a bar of ivory soap, under the bed sheets (at the foot of the bed) to treat night cramps. He politely told them that was a bunch of phooey. A couple weeks later he said that he had been inundated by readers responses, saying that they had tried everything under the sun and finally found relief with this method, so he was changing his stance and for the cost of a fifty cent bar of soap it was worth a try.

  • JULIE.. Thanks for the (((( hugs)))) I am sending some sent back to you! ((((hugs)))) I am so sorry to hear about your uncle. I had seen you post on Facebook that you were headed back home just a couple days after you left, but I just figured you had van problems or something like that.

SUZY... You almost wouldn't recognize the place now. Casino Drive still looks pretty much the same but the outlying areas on both sides of the river are growing every day!

  • I am so sorry to hear about Bill. He helped me ID the very first thing that I ever posted on the old EBAY chat board.
@songbreeze, That sweater is beautiful! It looks nice and warm. It looks just the right weight for me. I don't care how cold it is, I can't stand wearing a coat. I feel claustrophobic.

  • Hello Glassies.
I just did a catch up scroll. We just got back from our annual family vacation to Laughlin, Nevada (a small casino town on the banks of the Colorado River) with all our girls and their families. While we were there DH and I celebrated our 31st anniversary. We have been going together every year since they were kids and as they grew up and started their own families they have continued the tradition. We have all been through a really rough time this year, so that time together was appreciated in a new light. During the day we all hang out on the river doing the boating, rafting and jet ski stuff with the kids. That gets them good and tuckered out so that one adult can handle them all and the rest can either hit the jacuzzi or the slot machines. This year we made up a party of 24. Doctors orders meant that I didn't get to do any of the boating or water stuff though. There is one tiny 3/8 inch spot, in the incision from my surgery last May, that still hasn't closed up.

@marymelodee, It was so good to see your post. I have wondered how you were doing. I am so sorry to hear about your sister.

@songbreeze Gail we have similar tastes,I have the same sheep mug, but in amethyst. http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n51/4931nextdoor/HPIM6505.jpg and bought a bread tray in the hummingbird pattern on my trip to Indiana last year. It was ID'ed on the EAPG facebook site and the point was made that it looks nothing like some of the other Hummingbird pieces. If your Hummingbird creamer and my Hummingbird plate really are part of the same pattern, I would say that was an understatement! http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n51/4931nextdoor/HPIM6379.jpg http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n51/4931nextdoor/HPIM6382.jpg

  • Hello everyone. Just stopped by to do a quick scroll. It's that time of year where the grandkids are out of school and Dh and I are the designated sitters. I don't get to stop in as often as I like.

Gail, Oh my goodness! I am so sorry about the loss of your friend. You are an amazing lady. Please keep in mind that you have had two heart attacks already and you have to take care of your own health. You had been doing so much on the EAPG Facebook page and now you have the added stress of this very emotional and traumatic situation. God Bless You.
I can understand your friends reluctance to go to the hospital. The staggering costs of health care is mind boggling. I recently switched over to an HMO because even though medicare covers 80%, that 20 percent can add up in no time. I am SO GLAD that I did. Last month I had a defibrillator implanted, which required a over night stay. It's a good thing I had that sucker, because when I opened the bill I just about keeled over, $194,396.90! It's been a couple weeks since I got the bill, but every once in awhile I pull it out because I still just don't believe my own eyes!

Julie, DD and her 2 girls moved back home with us and she loves reminding me "Remember when you used to say the best thing about being a Gramma was being able to spoil the heck out of them and then send them home? Haha How's that working out for you?" She always was the mouthy one. LOL

  • Good Morning every one.

Shelly, Isn’t today the Big Day? Good luck with your garage sale. I hope you make lots and lots of money.

Julie, I must have missed something. Are you selling off some glass? What venue are you using?

I stopped by the Pottery Glass and Porcelain discussion board over on Ebay yesterday and the place is a ghost town. When they first shut down the chat boards, the discussion boards seemed to pick up a bit, but I guess it didn’t last long. Now it looks like they are doing away with a discussion board for pottery, glass and porcelain and will host these items under the collectible heading. If they do, I think that will be the final nail in the coffin, for the PGP discussion group remaining there.

Wendy, I can’t believe we are already midway through June! Every year round about November , I find myself asking why I didn’t get a head start on all my Christmas projects? Good for you for actually doing it.

  • Hello everyone. II was away from the computer for a few days so I'm going to play catch up here with a few posts.
Gail, I am in exactly the same boat! I know I need to do some purging but have no idea where to start. The first thing that I intentionally collected were EAPG cakestands and compotes, but found out pretty fast that those were space hogs. So I switched to pitchers. Those were almost as bad so I tried celery vases, then went on to spooners, then bread trays, then... I gave up, if I liked it fit my budget I bought it.

  • Well, it was morning when I first made that post. I guess I got sidetracked and forgot to hit enter.

  • Good Morning everyone. Well I spent an hour or so messing around with that email fiasco. Without much luck unfortunately. I think this computer is just old and temperamental, I know it couldn't be anything that I am doing. So that's my story and I'm sticking too it! LOL Thanks @katie_delano and @JimD for the suggestions.

@Julie All I can say is that is a very determined group of volunteers running your ZigZag Railway. First a fire put them out of commission and they work months trying to get things up and running again, and then they suffer flood damage, followed by repeated burglaries. They had hoped to reopen midyear but that plan has has been derailed ( I know, I know, I just couldn't help myself lol) They are asking for donations to fund their efforts to reopen hopefully in 2014.

@Shelly, Your historical train fits my budget better too. The one we went on in Indiana was very reasonable also.

  • Good Morning everyone.Yikes! I got into that email account that I was locked out of and have over 4,000 unread emails! I don't even know where to start cleaning that mess out. I am so tempted to just delete it all with out going through it but I'm afraid I would throw out something important to me. Does anyone know if there is a way to delete all the spam and keep the just ones from specific people, with out going through them one by one?.Thank you @Katie,@Julie@Gail,and @Shelly for acknowledging my post.

@Donscns.....Don, Wow, that looks like something we would enjoy. We took a train ride, http://www.whitewatervalleyrr.org/history.php to see the fall foliage while we visited Indiana this past October. They don't seem to be of the same caliber as the two you posted but they are non-profit and are operated and maintained ( with the exception of one paid office manager) completely by volunteers. DH says it was one of his favorite parts
    from our trip

  • Hello all. Long time, no see. I see a few new faces mixed in with the old familiar ones. I have scrolled the board a few times over the last year or so, but wasn’t able to post because of some password confusion. I know I could have probably reset it somehow but the truth is that, I kept my passwords including the one for my Emails in a little binder that I somehow misplaced. I’m to stubborn to admit defeat though. LOL I did finally manage to sign on a few months ago, after trying dozens of random possibilities, but wouldn’t you know it I was so surprised that it actually let me in that I couldn’t remember what combination actually turned out to be the magic word! Aghhhh So I was cleaning out one of my old purses yesterday and guess what I found!?

  • @carma Thank you! Thank You! For putting my mind at rest.
@ohiostar I just might try that. Thanks for the info.
@shellyrae37 Yum.. did someone say pot roast? I'm glad to hear that your DH is feeling better. My BFF just got a clean bill of health at her two month check-up. She had laryngeal cancer.

  • Ohh and I almost forgot... I've been trying to access the Shetlar's stretch glass page. I'm not having any luck. i get the strangest error message, saying that the site has a list of IP address that are blocked from using the site and that my browsing computer's address is on it. What the heck???? This is a first for me. I've never had this happen before. Can someone check and see if it is an issue with the site? It has me a bit worried that my computer may have been hacked or something.

  • @ver2us1 I just wanted to say that I think your screen name is pretty clever!
Your post reminded me that I took a pic of the book page for Bob too (the other day) but couldn't find my USB cord to upload it. It is of the pink version.

  • Good Morning everyone. I've been tossing and turning since a little after 3:00 am. I guess I might as well get up.

@carma, I hope you don't mind. I did share on the vintage glass board, that you had said, at a "quick glance" that it looked like amberina. It has been an interesting discussion. If you have the time to investigate a little more. I would enjoy hearing you thoughts on the bowl versus plate, element of the posts.

  • @carma Thanks for looking. I was second guessing myself again. it's is a common past time of mine. LOL

  • @carma There is a discussion concerning Fenton’s Peacock and Grape pattern on the Vintage Glass FB page. It is a very shallow ICB. Whitmyers lists this as having been made in Amber. Doty does not list Amber at all.The bowl appears to be amberina, (with an amber marie shading out to red) but the fact that the scallops on the bowl are all amber leaves a niggling little doubt in my mind. Amberina or Amber with heavy red irridescence? http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=4495711783872&set=o.218071431555341&type=1&relevant_count=3&ref=nf

  • @songbreeze My family settled in Indiana way back in the 1830s. By the time us kids came along, my father had joined the Air Force and was stationed in the south west. Just about every year though when his 30 day leave rolled around, we made our way back to Indiana. Maybe that is why it always seemed like home to me.
The thought behind the tickets was so loving ! There is no way I could tell her that while, one more Indiana Autumn is on my bucket list, I really don't know what I will do in mid April. All my Indiana family has passed on. I do have a few scattered relatives to visit. I figured it might also give me a chance to do some on site genealogy research too. Now maybe I can add the EAPG convention to my itinerary. It sure would be nice if you could make it too!

  • @songbreeze Oh my! what little cuties! I have seen pictures of little Ava before but I don’t think I have seen Connor before. Ava looks like her Daddy! Who it just so happens, looks a lot like her Gramma Gail. They are both adorable!

Hmmm…. an EAPG convention in Indianapolis in April? Well isn’t that serendipitous? It just so happens that DD#5, gave DH and I a very special and unexpected Christmas gift, of round trip tickets to Indianapolis
    (arriving April 10)!

  • @glassusa , Thank you for the ID! Duh...smacking myself in the head.I knew it looked familiar but I had Teardrop stuck in my head. Canterbury was one of the first patterns I learned to identify. Back in my early days on the Chatboard, Marypat and I met up for a trip to the Del Mar Antique show. She has a daughter who collects the Canterbury pattern ,so when we ran into a dealer friend of hers with an extensive selection, Marypat lightened his return trip home considerably! LOL

  • Hello everyone.
Does anyone recognize this vaseline glass divided dish. It reminds me of cross between Duncan & Miller’s Teardrop and some of the Czech pieces. It’s not mine. I’m just curious.

  • Hello all. I know most of you are probably already tucked in bed, but I still wanted to wish you all a very Happy New Year!

  • Merry Christmas everyone!

  • @shellyrae37 I am so sorry that I missed your birthday.Your cheerful and welcoming posts always put a smile on my face. I hope your birthday was everything you deserve!

  • Prayers for the Connecticut , elementary school shooting victims and their families. My heart breaks for them.

  • @wattleihavenext hahaha @ your comment to MM

mm @maryr, Ebay's Shipsaver insurance can be added up to 24 hours after shipping. They are cheaper than the post office and the insurance covers the shipping cost too!

  • Good Morning everyone.
@amber1986. What a gorgeous hotel! I had to laugh at your hat comment, but I agree with the others. It doesn't look bad at all. I feel your pain though. My DH is in his sixties. He's... (cough), much older than me. lol He has this ridiculous gold tomahawk dangling earring, that he's had for decades. Thank Gosh he doesn't wear it on a daily basis anymore, but it never fails anytime we get dressed up for a special occasion he tries to slip out of the house wearing it. At which point I usually sit my bum down and refuse to leave the house until he takes it off. ROTFLOL.

  • @Donscns Did you see the message I left yesterday. In the catalog your bowl is simply listed as '"14 in. Console Bowl No.5 Shape"

  • Good Morning everyone.
@donscns I looked through my Paden City book for info about your cutting, but didn't come up with anything. I did find a catalog image of both your bowl and candle holders in the uncut state.

  • Good morning everyone.
@sewer_rats I looked at your stems but can't see the pattern well enough to be of any help.

  • Hello everyone. Another Thanksgiving behind us. I am so thankful for every one that I'm still on this earth to celebrate. We had 20 people. Lots of food, good times and laughs. An oven fire and c couple of other small mishaps that delayed dinner just a bit and gave us all just a little bit more to be thankful for. I'm thankful that I was in the kitchen when it started and that I had just bought a fresh box of baking soda! I

    @allirish123 Great link! Thankyou!

    @amber, Interesting article. Thanks!

  • @Fenton @oklahomasong_Gail , Great! Thank you both. The book reference is greatly appreciated!

@reen, Thank you. Let me know If you need more pictures.

@mainewildrose, I left a dyslexic post for you (wildmainerose) at 1:18.

  • Good Morning everyone.I need help with these two glass items. The first one is this stretch glass tulip shade? It made me think off Imperial's Nuart shades, but it's unmarked. It has a 2 1/4 in. fitter and is 5 in. wide. The second piece is a Rubina Banquet lamp with a duplex burner. The complete lamp as seen, measures 17 and 1/2 inches tall. Can anyone help with the who when and where?

I enjoyed the kings Crown discussion. I had the hardest time keeping those thumbprints straight. Every once in awhile I would have to pull out the Gene Florence book and check, because I knew that it was the opposite of whatever he said. I finally devised this little memory tripper, to keep the shape of the Adams thumbprints, straight in my head. "R"ound is" R"eal and ObLONG is all WRONG. It might not be proper English but it works for me!

@wildmainerose, Thanks for all the pointers on the Kings Crown. I Is that Tiffin book the same one you recommended for info on the Slewed Horseshoe pattern? I seem to remember that one was also a book on Tiffin, and based on your recommendation, I had added it to my Amazon Wish List, but when I went to use my gift card my Wish List had expired and disappeared!

We will be having about 20 people, give or take a few for Thanksgiving dinner. DD#2 and her family had a last minute change of plans and won't be joining us. Her sweet Mother-in-law had to be taken to the hospital last night and has decided she just can't fight anymore and will stop chemo and accept hospice care. Please pray for them.

  • I hit the thrift store today and picked up a Rubina oil lamp. It looks like the old plaster cement on the font, gave out and someone tried to hot glue it, but I'm pretty sure I can redo it the right way.

@okcoolwheels_Suzy, That is a stunner! 10 feet tall... darn, I got 8 foot ceilings! LOL

@Lainey, MCM is the best kept secret out there. The good thing about that is that I still come across pieces set out by the curb. I stumbled on it when I bought a four piece set of Cherner chairs and was shocked to find out they routinely sold for a 100 times as much as I paid. I planned to list them on Craig's List( I've never listed there before), but have held back because, I'm afraid their value would bring out the hucksters.

  • Thank you Julie, Gail, Amber, Marson, Don, Fran2, Nancy and Suzy, for the birthday wishes. The cake is delicious. Everyone help yourself!

  • Bill, I just noticed the measurements. So your right that's not likely

  • Good Morning Everyone.
I just spent the last half hour looking for a picture I had saved in one of my bookmarks. Grrrr.... but it gave me an idea. Have any of you tried Pinterest? It's one of my latest guilty pleasures and everytime I get lost over there, I think about all the potential uses for glass collectors ! Basically Pinterest is like a giant Bookmarks folder, but instead of those bookmarks using URL addresses to link you to a site, it uses pictures from the site (you chose the picture)to link you to the site. Those pictures are then viewable to other users. So far there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of glassie users, but I don't think it will take long before the word is out. Here is a random users Pinterest board. Every picture on this board should link directly to the website it was taken from.http://pinterest.com/shastago1/glass-glass-art/. Others can see the pins you post and can add those pins(links) to their boards. You also have the ability to add comments (ID's, corrections, ohs and ahhs..) to any picture posted by any pinner. You can follow specific peoples pins( other glassies?) and share your Id's and other comments. So if I decided follow @Shelly, it would show me any new pins/links she had made since the last time I signed on. I could then add that pin/ link to my board and anyone following me would see it and have the option of pinning/linking to it also. I think with a little more thought and some participation this could be an opportunity to help build an amazing public research resource, quickly and efficiently.

@Donscns, Wow you sure make it hard!( Thou shall not covet, thou shall not covet, thou shall not covet....I don't think that's working.)

@Marty,, Do you take Niaspan? When I had my 4xbypass at 42, the doctor put a lot of blame, on the fact that my HDL was 12! He put me on the Niaspan . Within a few months it was over 60.

@Reen, Congrats on your sale.I had to go check it out and spotted all the lovely victorian bill spikes. I've always wanted one of those, but thought better about it. I would end up putting the spike through my hand for sure!

    Alicia

  • Hello everyone. I just wanted to check in,on the east coast glassies. I'm so glad to see most of you have checked in. I don't think I saw anything from Nancy P, MaryMel, or Suncoastwoman.
Happy I missed a few birthdays. Happy belated birthday to Marson, Gail, Gail Mac, and Chris!
A friend of mine posted this and I had to copy and paste it. I thought you all might enjoy it.
Where did "piss poor" come from?

NOW THIS IS A REAL EDUCATION

Us older people need to learn something new every day...

Just to keep the grey matter tuned up.

Where did "Piss Poor" come from? Interesting history.
They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot.

And then once it was full it was taken and sold to the tannery...

if you had to do this to survive you were "Piss Poor".
But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot...

They "didn't have a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low.

The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature
Isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be.

Here are some facts about the 1500's

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May,

And they still smelled pretty good by June.. However, since they were starting to smell,
brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.

Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water.

The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water,

Then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children.

    Last of all the babies.

By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it.
Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!"

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath.

It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals
(mice, bugs) lived in the roof.

When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof.
Hence the saying, "It's raining cats and dogs."
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house.

This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings

Could mess up your nice clean bed.

Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection.

That's how canopy beds came into existence.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt.

Hence the saying, "Dirt poor." The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery
In the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on the floor to help keep their footing..

As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door,
It would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way.
    Hence: a thresh hold.

(Getting quite an education, aren't you?)

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire.

Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables
And did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers
In the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day.

Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while.

    Hence the rhyme:

“Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old."
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special.

When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off.

It was a sign of wealth that a man could, "bring home the bacon."

They would cut off a little to share with guests

And would all sit around and chew the fat.

Those with money had plates made of pewter.

Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death.

This happened most often with tomatoes,
so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

Bread was divided according to status..

Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle,

and guests got the top, or the upper crust.

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky.
The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days..
Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial.
They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around
and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up.

Hence the custom; “holding a wake."
England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people.

So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave.

When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive.
So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell.

Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be,
“saved by the bell" or was "considered a dead ringer."

    And that's the truth.

Now, whoever said history was boring!!!

  • Hello everyone. I don't get much chance to post lately. Life is busy. I do still try to lurk once or twice a week though.

    @dbfrogs, Happy Birthday Fran!

@wattleihavenext, Julie,Congratulations on the newest member of your family.

@okcoolwheels, Suzy. Good job. Glad to be able to chalk one up for the good guys!

@jerseystar/nancyp, Nancy, Thanks for the ruby/amberina tip. Another helpful tip added to my Glassie tips notebook.

@oklahomasong-gail, Wow! I know how good that feels. Almost inspires me to do the same...almost.

@abzoid, I love that little blue vase.

@Shelly, I'm sorry, I must have missed reading about the reason for all the new appliances and insurance people. I'm assuming there was something along the lines of a flood or fire?

  • JULIE, That's unbelievable!

  • Gail, Thanks for the explanation about Collectors Weekly. I've got the watchers, now if one of them will just leave a bid. The exposure would help. Since I seldom sell, I don't have star ratings which if I understand it right puts me in the bottom of the search results.
I'm not in any of the wedding pics because i was behind the camera. I'm sure I'll be in some of the other guests shots.I'm sure I won't be in any hurry to post those though. lol

Marson, Julie, and Gail, Thank you for the hugs and understanding.

  • Good Morning Glassies. I finally have a few seconds to myself so I hope to get a chance to relax and catch up on the board. The past few weeks have been bitter sweet. DD #2 married her boyfriend of eight years. She wanted a vintage, homemade look and feel to her wedding. I ended up doing a lot of the homemade part and loaning out most of the vintage part. The two of us executed most of the details on our own, and now I know why the wedding planners make the big bucks! The last three days prior to the wedding were pure chaos. I had plans to treat myself to the whole mani-pedi, hair, makeup pampering experience. It didn't work out that way though. I ended up with half an hour to shower, dress, and do my hair and makeup. The bride was stunning though. Some of you have already seen the pics on my facebook page.
That was the sweet part. The bitter part came just a couple weeks before the wedding when DD#4, was blindsided when her marriage fell apart. She is devastated. They have been together for over 10 years and have two little girls, ages 3 and 1. My heart breaks for them. You think you know somebody.....
Ok on a lighter note. I finally got a few more auctions up. I listed my amethyst Early American Prescut serving tray. I want to see how this one does before I decide, if I want to list my cobalt EAPC tray. Does anyone know what it takes, to get it to show up on the pages of Collectors Weekly ? Alicia

  • Hello everyone. I just wanted to stop in and wish" A Happy Mother's Day to all our Glassie Moms". I am hoping to squeeze in a bit of a scroll. I hope Shelly is back to posting her cheery greetings, just in case she's not, I want to say I've missed her, on those few occasions that I've been able to scroll lately. DD#2 Is getting married June 2nd, so we are down to crunch time. I'm kind of tickled that she is incorporating a lot of my EAPG and other pretties! In the midst of this, I did manage to list a few things and I want to thank the Glassie who gave us the heads up on the Indiana Harvest canisters. I think it may have been either GlassUSA or Itsagas( I apologize to if it was one of our other helpful Glassies). I've got one that is doing pretty darn good!

  • MARTY, There is a definite crack in that vase. Since that is the sellers own picture, I am sure he will do the right thing when shown the damage. If not, the fact that the seller does not accept returns can be a good thing when you are dealing with a SNAD item. In a worse case scenario, If you need to file a claim for a SNAD item, Ebay will not usually require you to return the item, since the auction states "no returns".

  • @oklahomasong_Gail, Thanks, that just might be a clue. The same lamp is pictured In, Fostoria Serving The American Table 1887-1986, by Leslie Pena. To confuse things even more they give the name as Foster Block and also as Virginia They show two different examples of the lamps. The second one has a frosted base which makes it a lot easier to see the pattern. The area above the star of David band is plain. Still, I think there may be a Fostoria connection. Alicia

  • @Abzoid and @oklahomasong-Gail, Thanks for your replies. I appreciate you both looking at my links. No, not cut crystal. That last picture might be a bit deceiving. It was taken, looking down into the vase and out from the inside. The outer pattern has that melted ice look, that you sometimes see on the old Fostoria American pieces. It may not be EAPG, but It is definitely pressed and has the look and feel of glass from that period. It is heavy, but not for it's size.
    Alicia

  • Hello everyone. I have an EAPG rose bowl that could use your help with. I looked through McCain's but that doesn't mean it's not in there. It measures 4 3/4 inches high. It has a ground base but the interior edge of the ground ring is irregular. The design consists of a belt of six pointed stars around the middle and a row of squared off teardrop shapes( with a smaller true teardrop shape in the center) both above and below the stars. The glass is crystal clear. Any info or WAG's appreciated. Hope I did these links right. Thanks, Alicia

  • Good Morning everyone.
Shelly, Love that tree. Can you imagine how long it took to hang all of those! Thanks for the nice welcome.

  • Just stopping in to wish a Hoppy Easter to you all!

  • Carl @CARMA48 , Thank you!

  • Good Morning everyone.
I have a glass question for you. I have a custard glass Grape and Cable covered butter dish. It's has the large scallop base which indicates a reproduction. I would like to know who did the plain (no nutmeg stain or pearlized treatment) custard glass reproductions?

Shelly @shellyrae37, Haha you started my day off with a chuckle, by your warning to Julie about walking funny when she gets off the elephant. Talk about a visual. OMG that's too funny!

JULIE, @wattleihavenext, I am so jealous! I'll be waiting for those facebook pics.

REEN, @reen, So sorry about your friend.

LAINEY, @favoritegram Good Luck with your new business. One of these days, I'll have to stop by one of your sales!

  • Good Morning everyone.

@reen, So sorry to hear about your nephew. I will pray for him.

Happy Birthday SUE,@ Mainwildrose andGeorge, @george!

BILL,@itsagas Holy Cow! Congratulations on the vase sale!

Julie, @wattleihavenext, Thanks for your EAPC recap. I was lurking on the glass board back when you listed your first one. All the discussion about it stuck so, when shortly after that, I came across this Cobalt blue example, I knew it was special.http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n51/4931nextdoor/webviewblueplate.jpg Years later that's still pretty much all I know about it. I have never came across another example in the cobalt.
Toby, @abzoid, Thanks. I have seen it called pink, lilac, lavender and cranberry. Nice to know the official color.
Gail, @songbreeze, I appreciate you looking for me. You had me all excited when you mentioned having a book with information and pricing, on colored EAPC. I have been looking for over 10 years and have only found the color production mentioned in passing.
I hope you know my comment about your bargaining skills was meant as a compliment. You are a good example of how to bargain with class and without offending or insulting the seller. I watched and learned. Of the three items I bought last weekend, I only paid the original asking price for one.

  • I will be out and about today so I will check back later.

  • Thank you Helen and Amber! Let's see if I can do it this time.

  • Ok, well that didn't work.I'll give it one more try.

  • Good Morning Glassies. Speaking of bargaining skills. I have to say I learned a thing or two from Gail, when we attended the PCC Antique Flea Market on her Cali visit. Before that I usually just paid the asking price or walked on. ( Gail, did you ever find anything on those beautiful glass plates?)
Speaking of the antique flea market, I found a treasure yesterday. I know Julie has had something similar, but I can't remember the details. It's been so long since I posted a picture, I'm not sure I remember how, so I will start with just one pic. The tray is the 13 inch torte plate. The tray and metal frame come apart.

I know the pattern is EAPC by Anchor Hocking. What I don't remember are the particulars for the colored pieces.

  • BOB, Nice haul!

    KELLI, That was DDG glass!

SHELLY, Did you mean a castor set?

  • Good Morning everyone.Long time no see.

GAIL That must be the dog your neighbors abandoned when they moved. I remember you trying very hard not to become too attached. They have a way of sneaking in and stealing our hearts.(((((hugs)))))

  • SUE, Congratulations, she is precious! I know it's cliche, but she really will "light up your life". I have withdrawals if been it's more than a few days since I spent time with my GKs.

  • Happy New year everyone. I got mine off to a nice start this morning, with a visit to Pasadena City College Flea Market. I bought a green Fenton, Boggy Bayou vase, a set of Fenton, Celeste Blue, Stretch Glass #449 candle holders, 4 different decorative antique plates, one red and white transferware plate and a vintage childs egg beater. All of this for a grand total of $19.50. Whoo Hoo!

KELLI, Congratulations on getting your New Year off to a great start too!

I'll also vouch for Downtown Abbey! Daughter #3 and I are anxiously waiting for Downton Abbey season two. Season two has already started airing in England. I found a few of the new episodes available from a streaming service and was really tempted, but they were out of sequence, so I guess I'll just wait until the new season starts next Sunday. Another period piece that I enjoyed on Netflix, was a mini series called North and South (not the same series that aired here a number of years ago).
