• Hi All,

First. Thank you for B'day greetings, on the 11th. Been having computer problems. Getting the "Blue screen of death" ....more than once. It says something about safe mode etc, blah, blah,blah..... Tring to find free computer help. time will tell.

    ***************
Trying to get in to post this.
I heard on news today about NEW TOXIC SOMETHING IN PET JERKY from China. Could someone go find out and post . TIA

Can't take the chance of stressing my system much more than this post attempt .

  • Hi all,

I've been remiss in posting. Super hot and humid (for us), in August, which makes me practically brain dead. Wedding of good friend, a past student, which was probably the nicest most relaxed, fun wedding I have ever been to. Took a fall ('cause feet legs don't work right since accident 5 1/2+ yeas ago) and broke two adhesions loose, which was a good thing.
Just got back from Illinois orthopedist and chiropractor, plus took Mom back at same time. Ortho gave me something to try something for the neuropathy from accident. Have gotten some feeling back with time, from healing/regeneration/or whatever, so we'll see what this new stuff does.
There was a pet show at Mom's retirement home just after we got down so entered Teddy. It was hot. It got hotter as week went on. Car’s rear view mirror thermometer showed 99 on Tuesday and heat index was over 100. Close to that high most of week. Of course the cool down came the day I left. lol Last night is was 42 here at home.

More later, or as I like to say News at 11!

    PERSIEDS Meteor Shower Tonight !

Find yourself a dark area and "LOOK UP" Peak actually Monday AM a bit before dawn (forgot exactly how much before dawn would be peak) but should be pretty good for a few more days. I never make the "before dawn" watch.

I went out last night, with a friend, just after dark... 9 ish ..... and saw 2 small ones right away. Overall I saw at least 10-12 (stopped counting) in about 20-30 minutes. Friend saw some that I missed. There were three, count'm THREE , awesome ones with long, fat tails. Hope I am more awake tonight.

My lessons are almost done. Been crazy every day for weeks. Not any real trail rides but still hanging on. Back /legs have been spasing a lot but I am managing...just not typing. Teddy was lost for 1 1/2 hours last week and I was freaked out. More later if fingers oblige.
    .

  • Hi everyone Thought I should check in . Got back from Illinois doctor visits two weeks ago tomorrow. Had three appointments, but one was cancelled as roads were closed with flooding. A first for me.
Came back with Mom. She is in her own house just 600 feet down the road. My niece and her DH will will be there most of summer. Niece's DH is fireman and save his OT up all year so he can fish most of summer. Niece comes on weekends and vacation days so some one is usually sleeping in house. I am back and forth from my house, barn and Mom's.

I am spending more time outside no and not so much on computer. Much outdoor work needs doing, which is still taking much more time than pre-accident, and I can only do in little increments, if at all. Still trying to find some strong help but every one is busy this time of year so no luck yet. Really need someone to weed whip.

Have found plenty of hay (he has 2000 bales and I have 33 in barn now) and need to decide how much of it I should get. I need about 2000 for winter. It is first crop, pretty well cured, nice grass hay but not as high protein as I like. I really like to feed second crop but do not know if we will get second crop or how good it might be.

Lessons have started, have had no trail rides yet and just a couple of pony rides.

Have read and tried to keep up. Hugs and good thoughts for those with issues. Congrats and "Happy's" for those with B-days and milestones. Commiserating with those who have had setbacks.

  • Hi KATIE -The face hit me right away. Either camel or worse redition of cat in history of sculpture.
Hey You been sick? I must have missed that Oh wait someting with the tick???

Power flickering may have to poof

  • SUZY - I stake my reputation on it, Definitely Camel,

Broke out just the picture from the ebay page . http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Glass-Bowl-Mounted-on-Glass-Tiger-/00/s/NzY3WDEwMjQ=/z/92wAAMXQBg5RvmqI/$%28KGrHqZ,!ogFC-SECPdtBRvmqIP0rw~~60_57.JPG
Zoom in on head ...see muzzle shape, ...eye and ear placement etc.

  • SUZY
It looks like a Camel down on its knees. Can almost see two humps ( bactrin type). Look at the head/nose area and think about Joe the cigarette camel.

Been reading some between on/off line, knocked - off issues, not posting much. I am off Sun or Mon to Illinois for Doctors and then Mom will come back with me to Island till after Labor day. Her eyes are much worse than in the winter plus next year, at this time, she will be 98 1/2. This may be her last summer here. Her house is only 600 feet down the road from me.

  • Woke at 4 ish then heard thunder and could not get back to sleep. Came down to pull plugs on Computer, but decided I might be able to go online to check radar and lightning quickly. Checked but part of radar cycle has no image. By the sound , It has started to "go away".

    Saw BD list

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY! KATIE

OKsongGAIL - We may both be 6 feet under by the time I get pics of pitcher and dish. Pitcher has some sort of thumb print ( learned that term here) design. Dish has Dots pattern on bottom flower??? will have to post right after I look again. I have been doing outside work, little by little, as weather has been dry.

Boomers coming back closer now. Going "poof" .

  • Morning everyone.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!, to all the Mom’s out there.

I got back late Friday night from Illinois doctor trip. It has been down to 32 and have seen snow flakes since getting home. Friends 40 miles to north across the water had quarter size flakes yesterday. The mid-lake bouy is back in the water for the season. It is showing 35+ mph wind gusts and steady of about 30 mph. I like the readings off of that weather station the best ( for wind) as there is no blocking air flow from land or trees. I get temps locally.
It was a bit hectic before I lef,t with Teddy vet, packing and computer issues before leaving. I have a very reasonable vet. Bill was $30 total of which $22 was his bordetella vaccine, and he also scaled his teeth, clipped nails and looked at a bump on his chest. Bump should just be a fatty thing, but I will keep watch.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! DON re: “What do you call that stuff that falls from the sky and is wet like water? We had maybe .5” This is the first ”significant” amount that has fallen since I think like August!”
Up here, we call the getting spit on by Mother Nature. Hopefully both you and I will get some decent rainfall this year.

KATIE – Your necklace looks to be Zuni style but I don’t think the quality is there to be real. The Turquoise chunks look (to me) to be that dyed stone, Howlite maybe. They look too shiny and too veined from the picks. The birds, also, have a funny look to them.

CARL – Cool about your train shop. I get that feeling when I go in a new harness/saddle shop for the first time.

  • KATIE - It might be luck. My younger sister used to say that on the first of the month. I kind of do it in memory of her. Bet one could Google it. I know some say just "Rabbits", plural

  • .
    RABBIT, RABBIT, RABBIT

    Happy May Day
    .

  • test post

    Book board won't post

  • Morning everyone

Well, we hit 60 on Sat and 70 on Sun. Still have much ice on north side of barn. Snow piles almost gone. Grass just tinged with green. No real growth yet.
Entrance Daffys (driveway/road lots of sun) just popped green shoots on Thursday through snow piles. I noticed buds yesterday. The ones around the new septic area are starting to break through.

Got a green glass pitcher at the dump Saturday and a milk-glass 'something'. The something is about 7" across 2" or so high, dish only no lid, does have some sort of pattern. Will try to tell today whether they are old or not. Also white Pfalsgraf (sp?) took 4 each big plate, luncheon or salad and cup/mug. OH! and about 8 or 9 Revere lids from small to ten inch or so but do not know what happened to the pans.

CARL – Finally had chance to look at your pics. Love the beaver lodge. There was a dam too? (lost that link) And the moose and the trees and brush and, and…. Bridge is very cool, too. The use of scrap is way cool too.

  • Hi everyone

Be sure to check out Google's Doodle today. Multifaceted layers. Goes through seasons, moon phase, sunrises sunsets, rain etc. Only flaw I sw wa they had the snow appear in the spring rather than winter. Plus, things happen when you click the hand in certain areas.

SUZY /okcoolwheels - your glass may be a juice glass or ice and a shot glass like a small 'tub' as I call them., like an Old Fashion glass, short and fat.. I used to sell housewares in the 60's. Many sets ( AK, Libby, etc) had a small glass about that size. Don't know the age of yours but seems reasonable that that size would have been around for a long time.

GAIL/oklahomasong - Thanks for telling how to get a better pic link. Other way is to copy the "direct" link url, then paste into notepad and put a small "o" , not zero, just after the // at end of www. I do that as it comes up WAAAY before the pic appears. You have to put the link in something that won't carry the hidden properties of the tiny pic link though, other wise it reverts to the long url.

  • Afternoon everyone

Snowing here. Flurry-esque, much space between flakes but blowing a gale.

We had that heavy wet snow last week along with several power outages in a 2-3 day period. Would just get everything reset ( after allowing time for it to stabilize) and it would go out again.

MAINEWILDROSE - At least they know who they are looking for. Caught a bit on noon news but you guys alerted me to go look. Have always said if it weren't for the boards I would not know what was happening in the world.

CARL - My dial-up has been at 28kbps (or less) and not conducive for looking at pics. Will do so soon. I love trains. Model and full size.

    That reminds me.
TinyPic is doing something different, and I think sneaky, in their URL's which takes them longer to load than they should. Something imbedded??? If they are doing that the question is why??
I have a fix and will tell all soon when I can type a bit better.

  • Hi back at you Chris. How are your critters?

Wow, Just checked the weather station Gusts around 45mph, steady at over 30mph. Barameter plunged too. May be a three day blow.

  • hey everyone

    not spring yet

snowing off and on and blowing continuously, here. we are at exactly 32 degrees

  • Oh yeah...I fer-got

Mother nature gave me a few April Fool's day snow squalls

  • Hope everyone had a good Easter (for those that observe it) end of Passover is here too, I think. Tomorrow? or ?? Can not remember how many days but pretty sure that it started last Monday.

A friend helped in my house last week. Yesterday I took all silverware out of drawer and tried to match sets. Short work sessions, many many breaks, but it is out and drawer cleaned.

I watch tapes while I work. I tape onto VHS from her DVR. Saw some DDG Czech green cut to clear crystal on one show and some Mosser on another. Fun to see and to recognize from what I have learned here.

We were below freezing all night and today. May warm up during days next 5 or 6, but drop below freezing for next week. Had to turn the stock tank heaters back on. We are back to skating ring driveway.
    .

  • DIANE - I would buy it! , especially if that $7.99 is your asking price. BUT I too think it could be something special. Hard to tell how fine the metal casting is from the pics. Brass? or something gilded or with a patina finish? Are the designs fauna or fossils? or??
Maybe HELEN/BBG/BEADS will come over and give some input.

It reminds me of the light I found for my Mom's dining room. Nothing, literally no part of it, was what she normally liked but in that case all those parts just "fit" and she has had tons of compliments on it.

  • NANCYJEAN - My first thought was Swedish or Czech. Knew it was a good price. Should have bought it the third time I picked it up.
My back is an ongoing problem, from car accident 5 years ago, and I will have issues from it the rest of my life.

JANICE - That is it. Blue stamp and all. Must have looked at something else with the incised mark. MYSTERYHORSE put up a link on the BB to one just like mine.
    Here http://www.ebay.com/itm/roseville-pottery-crock-/261186208308?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3ccfe94234

SHELLY - Have sent it several times. but now I do not think I have even looked at my email for months. Saw your DH was having issues. Hope all is settling down.

  • Hi Glass board.

Back from Illinois doctor. Was delayed a day due to snow that hit on Monday. Wasn’t so much the snow but the wind. The system when right up the path I needed to travel. I have been on that Interstate in snow and wind, in the past, and had no desire to repeat the experience. On that trip I was already at point of no return, when it hit, and it took 3+ hours to travel a normal one hour route. It is not fun to only be able to see the inside of your windshield.
Was lucky to changed motel and ferry reservations and got home Wednesday PM. Got the last place on boat for Wed. Had less time for grocery shopping and ended up forgetting a lot of items. Oh well.

Sorry I was bad about posting the last 2 1/2 months. Got back on NY day in Jan and then got a muscle spasm. Was not up to snuff for a couple of months. Only post on the Book board once I think.
I did try to keep up with reading sporadically. Love watching the progression of the Rail Road CARL..

For the first time, since Mom moved in 4+ years ago, I hit a half price sale in the home’s thrift shop. I usually just miss the sales. Think they only do it two times a year.

Found a nice crock, good size, that looks like it will be perfect for utensils. I’m using a plastic cup now and it keeps falling over. It is oatmeal color with two ( I think) blue bands. Was surprised later when studying it that it is Roseville. It was only $2.

In the book area I got a nice older Courier and Ives book. It has some color plates and lots of b/w. It is just for me, as I found it interesting.

Saw much nice glass and wished I had more $$$ and time to research.
Saw a heavy glass vase that I liked, interesting shape, 18” or so high almost hour-glass shape but the top curved in and it had a scalloped edge. .Also had what I think is wheel cut pattern trying to learn) only $17,
A set of 8 stemmed sherbets? only about $17 also. About 4-5” across top with flat bottom, compote shape with cranberry down and inch or so from lip.Had pattern in glass to. Not sure what type the color process is called, but it looked to be fired or melted on. Not like a paint on top of the glass.
    Many, many other nice pieces.
Almost bought a modern bud vase. Heavy crystal, like a block of glass with hole drilled down center and a simple cut pattern on one side that was like grass slightly blowing in a breeze. It had a small scratch and money was tight so I just said ”no”. It was only $4 at half price. Wish I had had more time to decide.

  • Carl - Went up to Mom's unheated summer house and watched the weather channel on the dish for a bit.
Imagine my surprise when they showed a house in Hull, MA that was encased in ice. They talked about the spray from the ocean coating everything there. It was a gambrel (sp?)roofed ( barn shaped) house . Hope your friend and her place fair well after the storm.
    .

  • Morning

I set alarm for 4:55AM so I could listen to the farm report on WGN radio. They were going to talk about the horse slaughter issue. I know many do not like the idea, BUT, being a horse lover and ownerI know that it is a very necessary need.
Since the ban in 2006 (?) the horse has been the loser. The ban led to cheap prices for horses which led many to be purchased by people who do not have the money or know how to keep, them leading to a myriad of issues including starvation and neglect. And that is only one small part of the whole picture.
One can not 'save' all horses, nor all animals in general..

Now listening to the Mr. Fix-it show on WGN radio. It is a great show for do-it-yourselfers. You can listen on the computer too! I put my own wood floor down with advice from Lou, Mr. Fix-it

CARL - Thanks for your storm report. I do not have good "real" TV ( I dvr off my Mom's summer house dish then transfer to VCR tape for me to watch at my house) since the digital switch so have seen no coverage.
Also, really enjoy looking at you train layout/progress photos and hoping you will continue to show the progress. I always wanted a train set.

  • CARL - First paragraph of article you posted --The link you gave at about 10 ish this AM
They do not make it very clear though. I also heard on CBS morning show that they will not deliver First clas but yes on packages on sat
    .
    .
It's snowing! Was in unheated building for too long. Now trying to get warm. brrr.

  • Morning Boards...book, glass, pot, et al.

Gray breaks, behind big white flakes.

Minus 2 last night up to 12 already.

Last week at this time I had had a horse missing for over 24 hours. A bit stressful to say the least.

Wonder if Richard will be given a ticket for being expired in the parking lot?

  • Happy Holidays to all!

All times when fingers were 'typing able' I was working on buttoning up farm for winter, off to chiro, no or bad internet connection and sometimes just in a general funk. Had a whopping 10Kbps for a while but was too hard to connect. that went on for a week or two. Had a few power failures also. I swear each time that I had time anf had good fingers the computer had issues. I KNOW! It's a conspiracy. LOL Had a really good adjustment in November but it is the nature of the injury for thigs to slip out again.

    BOOK BOARD

    DIANE/FURTIMA hope you heal fast.

    MIM Hope DH improves quickly.

    GLASS BOARD

See some have had issues here too. Hope all get through them.

I will try to not be a stranger in future. Have to finish packing I am heading to Illinois and chiro, again, in less then two hours. Good winter driving today, so '"they" say. New used suburan handles pretty well in the ice and snow that I have had here. We only got about 3 inches of snow because we were so warm it rained for much of the storm, Trade off is I now have skating rink under snow. We still had the 50 plus MPH winds and had no boats running on Friday.

  • Hi everyone. Melted first back in summer then, got glutened in August, and then just enough lightning to keep me off line through firstish of Sept. then, down in Illinois doing drs appoint. and taking Mom back , then wind, wind, wind, glutened again and then more wind. Lost two horses in four days (unrelated causes) but they were two of my brood mares and also used for lessons and trail. Now have ends of a little virus and we have more wind. Soldiering on. Happy Birthday to me

  • GAIL - Years ago got special powder from vet that was for tiny nursing kittens...like 2-3 weeks old. Mom was a taken in very pregnant stray. SOK, maybe,or some kind of initials.... we are talking early 70's.

Your's looks to be around 7-8 weeks old from the picture. Here is full info on the Dawn method ( news to me- hope I can retain info for future...lol).

Personally, I would wet the head wet first and put a ring of Dawn around neck to keep fleas from fleeing to ears.

    Less hot here

  • NANCYJEAN - Anything here?

  • Fire works postponed till tomorrow. Had some thunder wnet out to piddle Teddy and ....IT IS RAINING!!!.
Did not know storm was that close. We really need the rain so not complaining.

    HAPPY 4th

  • Hi everyone!

Played catch-up after I got back with the"new" 12 year old car in early June. Then, I started lessons plus hired muscle was here a few times to fix fence, etc. Then was off to Illinois again for Dr appoint and It was 95 to 100 plus the 5 days I was there. Yuck. But it was less humid than what awaited me at home.
Got very loose bridged 4 tooth crown re-cemented. Was worried it could not be done but it came totally out at dentist and is very solid now. Whew. He also touched up the one I cracked in half in March, when I fell, and that now is very solid (or as solid as it will every be). I like to say he did some tuck-pointing. LOL

Brought Mom back with me this trip. She is in her house down the road and will stay till just after Labor Day this year. She is managing to cook on the gas stove. She was afraid that she would not be able to see the flame. She cooks all the time at home ( in Illinois) but has electric in the retirement home.

The car did well on it's first trip. A/C work very well. Still do not know how big the gas tank is. still testing how much MPH I am getting. Used cheap ethanol gas. Have not done a good test with ethanol free super, yet. Getting used to new nooks and crannies and where to put what but have misplaced my check book. It is an a box somewhere that I used when stuff I transferred from old car to new. Getting used to the icky leather seat and have on gotten stuck to then one time so far., Teddy slides on them, my sheep skin slides off them and everthing on the center console surfaces slide too. Will figure it out eventually.

We have had bad heat here but not as bad as some others. It was 98 heat index today Dew points close to 80, close to 90 actual temp. I did no trail rides today and tomorrow do think I will even be open. It is to be the hottest tomorrow and then cool into the low 80's. Ha pretty funny for me to say "cool into the low 80's" . I don't like it much over 65 or 70 and hate humidity.

The fire works will start soon and I will go to the top of hill to watch, when I hear the first one go bang.

  • Morning!

Busy on farm. Had just enough $$ from thre Pony Rides to pay muscle to fix some and move some fence. Then in the space of about 5 hours on Wednesday. Harvey, finally, got my new starter in the mower, I used the skidsteer for quite a while till it started going eEER..Errr, eEER..Errr, eEER..Errr ....Then dawns on me it was low on fuel. My fuel guage is broken. Put more in and was OK for about 20-30 minutes then the same. Diesel guy thinks I sucked crud from bottom of tank so waiting for parts ( fuel filter) and guy to fix. SO...I went to mow. Got about 150 feet and my mower went POOF with huge cloud of white smoke and shut off. Blown engine??? Waiting for verdict on that.
Then....The horses got out of new fence repaired area. Did not go anywhere and came right in but they were not in the field where they should have been.

Had two trail rides on Thursday. Just enough $$ to pay for the starter (for mower that went poof) and part of the fuel filter. As friend said to me "if it weren't for bad luck I would have no luck at all. lol

Have a new student ( just four 4 lessons) who will come today for first one.

HELEN / BEADS! - Suppose you have googled already. It has been reprinted and is also in google books. found one listing in addall. They say original binding was cloth with gilt. Do you have a special edition??? worth even more??? That would be cool if so.

From Addall listed at $656 U.S. dollars
"London 1901. 8vo. Orig. cloth. Gilt. (x,416,4pp.). With portr., numerous full-page plates, text-illusts, and 2 col. folding maps. Scarce. A fine 1901 inscription on front fly-leaf, as well as an original photograph portrait of the author tipped-in on verso of title-page. Scarce. "

  • Morning - waiting for Tramadol and Advil to kick in. I lifted a full bag of feed yesterday (I keep trying) and shouldn't have. Oh well.
Need to use the skidsteer, as we are nice and dry right now.

ABZOID -Loved seeing the Clum auction pics. They could be saved as references. What great pics and descriptions.

CARL GAIL MAC - Really enjoyed reading of your reminiscences of the antique malls.

MARTY - This one looks like yours

I don't know much about them ( maker wise) but I like reamers. I pick them up whenever I see them if they are free or really ,really cheap. Have gotten several at the dump.

Tab handle reamer attributed to Fry Glass BUT it has a 90 degree ( right angle to handle) spout rather than the 180 degree ( across from handle) one. ....do not know if there is a term for that in glass-speak. I am still trying to figure out WAG. lol
    http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/11585183_vtg-fry-glass-reamer
and another tab handle but not listed as Fry.

If it were Fry would that be in it's "oven glass" line? Found the Fry site with an online Museum but can only see one page.

  • Hi everyone

Was supposed to leave today to go get the new used suburban. I did not get the new title and plates till last week. Hope I do not forget to take them. It is the GMC version. rather than the Chevy, so is now called a Yukon XL. Will most likely contiune to call it a Suburban as I will probably never get used to saying Yukon XL. LOL

Planning on selling car by the pound so putting as much of my scrap iron and tin inside as I can.
Will sell my #2 insulated wire separately. Have about 40-50 pounds of that and it is at about $2 a pound now.

If a miracle happens, and I sell the Burb to someone to drive, I could get about $950 to $1000. Will not have a lot of time for that kind of sale. Poundage is the easiest.

A friends SIL had a return to hospital after his open heart surgery started to leak blood into the pericardium. That surgery was done at major heart hospital in Midwest.
Personally do not think his home hospital, 400 miles away, did a good job of monitoring his Cumadin levels post surgery. They have a history of checking but then not adjusting levels on other meds.
Repair surgery was NOT done at his home hospital. They went to a very good, about a hundred miles away, facility.

Teddy has continued to learn. He almost heels like a proper obedience dog often with an automatic sit and also will wait for direction before getting a thrown stick. I can alternate between 'play' fetch and obedience fetch based on which words I use. Stay and take it for obedience and just a 'go get it' (or some such) for play.

Finally got the resident raccoon out of the tack room and then left the door open all night and it was back inside today. Ugh.

    GLASS

NANCY P - My condolences to you and your family

GLASS USA /BOB - Cool idea on using the blanket to keep the glass stable..

GAIL - Thanks for the heads up on that auction of custard glass dish. It was fun to watch it.

SHELLY - So nice to see you back posting

  • MARSON - Have you tried just restarting your computer?

  • GLASS*USA BOB thanks for mentioning the feels old. That is what I forgot to sat in my post.
YOU can feel it and see in real life. That has a lot to do with IDing. I can only go by what I see in the pictures.

    Good Luck

  • Morning

GLASS*USA BOB I am not a glass pro but I will give my 2 cents.

IMO Your glass cat face plate does not have the detail one would think of in early glass pieces. I blew up the pics of the old one and yours and yours look very basic. Lack of detail on nose especially. Almost as if the nose could double as nose of bear or dog or even human.

The color of the glass reminds me of the "new" (exploding) Pyrex which has a strong bluish hue

  • Hi Everyone - Just kind of lying low. A bit of a bug came back with me from Illinois and lots to do outside in between debugging myself.

SUZY - Looked at the Jadite Mug auction. Cool. Sent it to a friend too. When she saw it she exclaimed "that is our Penny jug!" He Mom kept change in that same mug. She said it looked just the same and had the raised pattern. It is long gone now though.

Anyway I had to look up Philbe on ebay and just watched this one end.

Jumped 60 bucks in the last second.
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-UNUSED-SET-3-FIRE-KING-JADE-ITE-PHILBE-REFRIGERATOR-JARS-IN-ORIGINAL-BOX-/221021715378?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3375ebbbb2&autorefresh=true

It was fun to see a couple of real auctions. We used to watch on the Book Board when there was a good one ending.

  • HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Back from Illinois doc. Much relief for now. Took Mom a huge bunch of daffodils and a few forsythia, She loved them. We did power errands and finally found the right color and weight of denim jeans for her. Got her new new digital box from Comcast and true to my seeming to be ever present Murphy's law syndrome, it was defective. She is now waitning for new one to arrive and I hope my NC sister ( who is visiting Mom now) can change the cords.

Found some decent "free on side of road" stuff. Sold $80 worth comprising of a14 foot round rung wood ladder, clay flower pots, pressed back arm chair, pair of modern lamps with shades, really cool 'beads' (marble? Agro-agate?) which are like large bead-like ovally things on an old lamp part and finally the hardware off of an art deco waterfall dressing table. Also got a $20 finders fee for guarding art deco mirror from garbage trucks.
I got for me about 8 big Fieldcrest towels...the really thick ones, many storage containers, a kids puppet show stage, a big kids easel two sided with dry erase and chalk board including the chalk and paint, an older maple plant stand with nice lines (it does have a crack in the top which I think can be fixed) two 8" 4x4 posts, and a sled which I use to haul stuff around the farm and a tall 18 inch or so by 6-7 inches across, straight sided clear crystal vase and other stuff which escapes me now. Did not pick as much as some years. Only really got to do one section and that was a fairly brief hunt.

  • BILL - I agree...each to his/her own. I was not trying to tell anyone to do it differently. Just saying I do not have your zoom option and this was the way I found to do that, with the least steps for me.

  • GAIL - Neck is quite long for normal duck. Could it be a goose? may be some cryptic clue in MARSON's post but if so...Whoosh...It has gone right over my head.

  • Well I am now going to Illinois tomorrow. Watched the radar and the lightning site to see if there would be a hole but it was pretty nasty so decided to wait. It is clearing down south now but it is too late today.

Found the file cabinet I was looking for and no title so have one more place to check or I will have to shell out $$ for replacement.
The little file cabinet I was looking for was not buried in the place I thought it was. Must have changed plan and left it at Mom's summer house. Founds it in my old cabin. My Nephew or BIL must have put it there for me but, as I did not do the moving, I had no memory. Therefore I must have the the title out of that file and put it in a "safe" place, somewhere in my house.
Drawback to old concussion issues is that some memories are not there. Title location being one of them.

SUZY, MARSON - Glad to be able impart some info, after all the info that I have gleaned from all of you.

SUZY if you have Mozilla Firefox there is a way to put the + sign on your mozilla tool bar and just hit it.
I just use that button but told you other way as it would work for anyone with a pc. I had to set up the + and - in my tool bar. I only found it because the new firefox did not have the stop button showing, and I use that a LOT.
Someone had to walk me through how to get the stop button showing and I found the short cut the + and - buttons in that menu choice. On dial up one needs to stop slow loading pages fairly often....at least I do.

Oh... Sort of remember. Right click on menu bar and make and 'add-on' tool bar then do same thing but choose "customize" and drag choices to new tool bar.

Bill - I like my way because I do not have to go to a drop down thing and can just watch the size change. Also I did not find a zoom under my tools heading.

  • DON / BILL - Do you know how to make pics (and print) bigger? Use the Control and the Plus sign key together, on a PC. Mac should have similar feature. Each time you hit the combo it will increase the size of pic.
    I took your little table set pic from about 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches, to about 4 x 4 inches.
Some detail gets fuzzed but other features get better.

  • Morning -

I am off to Illinois to chiropractor today ,,,gone till Friday or so.

Finally got title to new used car, but not soon enought to get licencesd and swapped with old one before trip.
His credit union delay transferring $$, which delayed title co. sending title. Spent hours on phone with my state DMN, the seller, his credit union, and in person our police dept which now has plates. ugh
In bewtween that and normal stuff, Mom's Comcast TV cable co. messed with her service by switching to digital and sho woke up early almost two weeks ago, with no TV, so have spent hours on phone with Comcast trying to learn new system so I can explain it to her.

If anyone has Comcast, beware, they are changing system so you can not program your own equiopment to change channels. You will have to chnage a channel on an adapteter box. Was told it was like a digital converter but turns our it is a decoder as they say even a digital TV or DVR will not work with it. What a pain.

Now hear flash flood warning for Northern Illinois this PM. Debating if I want to drive in storms or not.

First, Belated Birthday greetings to all whom I missed. By the time I read and had time, I was to poopped to post.

TOBY - Loved your new cabinet pictures. The blue is to die for.

DON - Had the same problem when vacuuming yesterday. I tracj sandy dirt in from farm and it sits on floor at edges of path.
Isn't a main purpose of glass cabinets to keep dust out? Makes we wonder if there is some way to seal them.
I have a small wall hung which keeps dust out and a tall narrow ( ex Cognac display) lighted cabintet from liquor store which has a little dust (just looked) but I have Not touched it in ten years.

SHELLY - Hope you are healing well. Know you check Pottery And Glass so putting it in both.

REEN - I was wondering about cake to. Thanks for sharing.

  • MORNING! 33 degrees last night but no snow

MIM - How nice to see you. I have been gone but heard that you were under the weather. Glad you are on the mend.

IRENE M - Would think if you had heard of a med that might cause problems it would be nice to share what it is. Might help prevent a problem for someone else.

BTW anyone - Heard this morning about nickel allergy being caused by food is a new thing being discovered. It was on the CBS morning show today One can google to find more.

Also, have been seeing ads for class action suits re: tylenol and liver failure . Again google for more info. I won't have tylenol ( acetaminophen) in my house or take anything ( knowingly) with it in it.. Sister had a friend loose her liver to it and she did not drink either. It is just one of those things that you don't know when it will kill you.

Just like dogs and chocolate. Might not bother some dogs in even large amounts but a tiny bit could kill another dog.

I found a drug site a couple of years ago...you have to really hunt to find it...FDA I thing drug trial results. There are sooo many drugs that have a 2-5 % chance of death that have been approved. Personally I do not want to play russian roulette.

SHELLY - I got a glass rolling pin ( that holds ice water for candy I think, or for making pie crust?) a few years ago at the SOR store ( that is free on the side of road store - LOL) Then had to find one for Mom to use, she then found her's (misplaced in the move) and told me to keep that one. So had I had two. Then found a couple here and there that were older and different or red handles or, or. I think I have five maybe.
In gathering rolling pins discovered that the new ones are expensive for good ones and not as well made as older ones. SO...pick them up if free and if I find some one who need one I pass it on.
AND I do have an iron wine rack like is shown in the estate sale pics.

Cool on the marble one. That must be for candy right?

LAINEY - Stunning candy dish. Very interesting to read about the making process in the worthpoint link.
I knew gold could make red glass ( from when I collected Ruby glass but never considered that a little gold ( or less heat?) would make pinkish glass.

    In general

When I was in MI last week, at my friends, I got to tour the old house that is on the property.
Empty for about 20 years or so but several things were left. One...wish I had a picture.. was a little berry bow? Ice cream dish? round low simple curved edge, clear ( with hint of purple from sun) very thick glass ( reminded me of something I have seen) Maybe a simplified lotus shape? Anyway a nice litte piece.
There were also some books childrens reader going back to mid 1800's. Not molded yet also some nice real wood furniture. Two pairs of chairs, a bench mahogany or maybe cherry. Did not go up stair or into the basement.

  • BOB GlassUSA - Thanks for that ES link. I have been window shopping. LOL

Did anyone else see that neat way of showing roller pins? They have them in a simple iron wine rack.

  • Hi to everyone!! reading, especially on the BOOK, POTTERY and GLASS boards which are the three I post on the most. I am doing this in one post to save time and personal energy.

I have read read all three boards and hopefully have retained some points which I want to respond to. So PLEASE, if I missed something important don't get your undies bunched. lol

First a little update on my activities. A big concern for me this winter was that I needed a new vehicle capable of towing my 16' stock trailer. You may or may not remember that my hitch receiver peeled off of my frame rendering that vehicle incapable of ever towing anything again. I have high mileage but a well maintained engine and good maintenance. It has 210,900 miles, runs extremely well, gets 18-20 mpg, on tiny oil leak that happens only when running ( and that mostly at idle), the A/C pump/clutch (?) went out just after the hitch broke so have a new bypass pulley for the serpentine belt and the mechanic hit some wire when the cut the remaining hitch attachment off making a draw on the electrically system, so I now just disconnect my battery when I shut it off. Not really a big deal but it does get tiresome sometimes..

Anyway, I began "THE GREAT CAR HUNT", in January/February, just looking to get an idea what was out there.

I have a 1993 GMC Suburban 1/2 ton and need the equivalent as a replacement, which means a GMC Yukon XL or a Chevy Suburban. GMC is higher end than the Chevy ( like Caddy to Chevy in cars) but basically they are the same style. My Mom said she would help me, as I have no extra resources. I was looking at vehicles with 100,000 plus miles, in the late 1999 area as that was all I could afford and those are selling for $5000-7000 and higher!

If I found one with a good body, it had other major issues, or good maintenance but bad body. One, a GMC ( and happened to blue, and would blend with trailer) had a typo and was a 1995 and not a '99 AND had 220,00 miles but had been owned by a mechanic for a year. Sigh - My mechanic said no.
Being gun shy about rust ( midwest winters and salt) that factor was especially high as a concern.
Found several with good maintenance, one owner, replaced transmission ( a known suburban issue) and ready to go another 100,000 back in the winter but choices were fewer now. Looked for weeks this spring and found nothing decent to even look at. Then found three in succession which warranted a look see. Two in Green Bay a 200 + mile round trip, remember, I am in the boonies.
They were both 1999's with 118,00 and 148,000 miles. The lower mile one had only been owned privately for 1 year the other was at a dealer ( a trade swap with another dealer so no history).
The first one's A/C went out between first conversation and second so that was a no deal. Second would have been easiest transition as dealer would do all paperwork and give me $600 trade for my '93 ( making less tax) and a warranty for the drive train was available.
The third one ( highest mileage at 185,600) was the farthest. It was 350 miles away, way up in Copper County in the Kewanaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan. Road trip?

BUT it had been a Nevada car and in Michigan for only 5 months! I knew I had to at least look at that car. If the frame was as good as the guy said the high mileage could be outweighed by the lack of rust.
So left last Wednesday test drove the dealer car on my way. It had more rust than mine, it's muffler/exhaust sounded like it was in the first little stage of going, the shift was very hard and had cargo doors with a blind spot and the hitch had awful rust flakes on the inside of the receiver.
The only really good thing was the radio did work AND got WGN from Chicago. I have not had a working radio for over ten years. lol

Got to my friend's house in eastern Upper Michigan that night about 8 my time. We got up at 4 my time, 5 her time and on the road about quarter to seven. I had never been west in the U.P. so all was new and interesting. No interstates all two lane but very little traffic. Hit snow squalls for and hour or so but no sticking. Saw mine areas and mine shafts, slag heaps, beaver lodges, Eagles, more mine shafts, mining museums. Would have loved to have stopped to play tourist.
Got to the guys apt. saw right away the bumper was a bit pulled at the corners. A cosmetic thing. It hit something square on center which brought the two sides out a bit. At the back it looks lik someone took giant forceps and pinched the rear fender in just ahead of the tail light. Even round dents, also cosmetic. Opened all the doors worked all the windows, etc.
Then got my towel out to lie on and got under the car. WOW!!!!! WOW WOW!!!! Parts of the frame still have factory undercoating, other parts look brand new. The most rust was a dusting, like if you killed a good cast iron pan washed it and let it air dry. It even still has paper labels on the frame!
I test drove it on the was to the service place I had lined up to check it out. I also asked them to test drive it. The mechanic ,Ron, and I went out leaving friend and seller at the shop. When Ron tried the four wheel drive it did not work. Oh-oh.

We then got it up on the rack. Saw two leaks right away. I knew where they were coming from and idea of repair cost on the one but not the other. Buyer had so no leaks, but he was only looking for ground spots. He has gravel so they would have been hard to see. One is either valve cover or oil pan gasket $250 or so. Other is some seal in transfer case $250-300 and would replace all four ( I think 4) gaskets in that if I did it. Wheel bearings good, might need ball joints in a year or so, suspension good, brakes good, but all in all ( except the 4 wheel not working) still good for the price. He is in the boonies too so not many buyers. Also has SS exhaust which should last forever and maybe a SS muffler. Called my mechanic told him all he said it was still a very good deal so It was a go.

THEN, the buyer decided he had to see why the 4-wheel didn't work, as he had used it all winter. He gets it in 4-wheel and CAN'T GET IT OUT!!! Ugh!!! that was a no deal as could not drive the 150 back to friends in 4-wheel.
Over two hours later, friend now napping back at apt., in my car, buyer and I are driving around, with him trying to get it back in two wheel drive. I call the service station and ask Ron if there is any way to manually release the hubs. he says no but if someone got underneath and tapped the transfer case hub motor while someone pushed the 2-wheel button it might work. Mush like tapping a bad starter to jar it pasts a bad spot. IT WORKED! Called Ron back and asked if it was " in" would it stay with no chance of slipping back into 4-wheel. He said I was good to go. It is now 14 minutes before the credit union closed ( they stayed open a half an hour late for us) I handed over the cashier's check and travelers checks ( got part in TC just in case I could get him down a bit on price, even though he said, on phone, $6000 was rock bottom) got a copy of the title faxed from the lien company in Utah, went back to buyer's apt and we hand wrote bill of sale, signed and witnessed by friend. Had wanted this all ready when we were at the credit union but his printer was broken, my friend forgot to print one for us and the CU guy had gone way out of his way already so did not want to ask him to print it. I had wanted to have it ready and have them notarize it.

There is a lot of trust between strangers in this deal. Title with lien release will be sent to me, I have the car at friend's in MI, 150 miles closer than buyers house, she drove it to her farm on his plate as we could not get temps with out original title getting home at 11 PM her time that night.
Next day I discovered that I wrote mileage wrong on bill of sale so made and add-on and sent to him to sign and return when I sent his plate back. He sent me the signed add-on mileage statement which I got yesterday and now I am waiting for the title.

    Whew are you tired yet?

The next few days I went to scrap and salvage yard to see what I could get for my car. Have estimates from $275 to 600 ish as scrap or parts. May put add on Craig's list to lsell in her area. Car runs well and could always be scraped for that 600 ish. Running as is, is worth at least $900-1000 even with issues. friend can ferry me around to do shifting of cars up there. My tires are better so will have to swap them too.

Anyway. I am now the owner (working on the proud part) of a 2001 GMC Yulkon XT SLT K2500 with NO RUST. Oh yeah, this one is a 3/4 ton. Another bonus. My mechanic said even with the leaks and 4-wheel drive out, the car was still a great price. Oh the lift window has a bad catch, think it is minor, I can still open the whole lift back. No blind spot in this one.

Only drawback is that it is bright RED! I will feel like a target. My friend said it drove like a dream and I will really like it. Ah well, me and not liking "change". I am sure I will get used to it eventually. Thank You MOM!

CASINO - Glad Pat is home again and doing better. Hope you are too.

MAUREEN - Glad you solved the mystery of your recent issue. Bored, yeah been there. Felling better but still can't "do".

SAM - How's the kitten? That tiny sounds like mom could have been moving litter and lost it or tossed this one out because it was sick.

KATIE - When i was in the apt in winter 08 the apt mate did worm farm so I learned a bit. That is so cool that you do it.

SHELLY - I am still here. Good luck on your upcoming knee thing.

AMBER - If kitten is tiny it should not be played with. Did you call all the vets and shelters to report it too? Have had kittens stolen from me because people just took and kept them.
Good glucosamine can be found without shellfish. you just have to look. Not all glucosamine is created equal. Fillers and binders keep some from working in some people. and a few people do not get any benefit. I think it is great but took me a while to learn that not all are the same. Look into MSM too.

GORDON - Guess you should have gotten x-rays sooner. Hope it heals.

GAYLE - Glad Lassie came home. That is the worst not knowing where your fur kid is.

NANCYG - Try holding a treat to get Zack to look at you while holding the camera and work up to shooting, not up to your eye but "from the hip" or.... Plus if he were at your height.....On couch and you sitting in chair would work. It would be a better framing too. The Penny avatar on Pottery board is one of about thirty pics I took to get that one good pose.

OH POTTIES - picked up a cute little yellow vase with a raised botanic pattern. It was a Mc Coy so I got it.

GAIL - worried during tornadoes but read enough to see you were OK. Do not know exactly who else is in that area.

    DON - Lovely pink pitcher.

  • Back from Illinois Chiro......lying low for a bit

SHELLY - Could your bigger thing in the smoke set be for cigars?

  • Morning

I got the mega ball and one other number so I won a whole whopping $3. Net win of $1. Fifty percent return I believe.

Today is first day of spring schedule. We are back to 5 boats I think. Tim my trail rider is coming today to visit. Too early to ride but he missed the horses and the dump. lol

I go to Illinois to Doctor on Monday for a few days. We had three inches of snow yesterday but non of the wind or rain that was due.

GAIL and FRAN2 - So what are you going to get with your winnings? I though I might get a couple of cups of gasoline

  • Hi Gail - I thought i would keep all in suspense till tomorrow, but I will tell you. i got the mega ball and one other number so I won a whole whopping $3. Net win of $1. lol Now Shhhhh. don't tell anyone yet

  • I had a friend in MI buy me a couple of Mega tickets. I don’t know I could get that ticket on the Island. We didn’t used to have capability to getting some of the games due to the high speed thing.
Anyway….. She just read me the numbers. One of the tickets won me some money!

  • GAIL - I am here in spirit. Heading to bed momentarily . Dozed off in chair this afternoon. Phone rang. Looked at time. Who the heck is calling me at five in the morning I wondered. Then realized it was light out and it was afternoon. Boy I was really sound asleep for a minute. LOL

  • Morning . Woke at five. couldn't get back to sleep. Paid bills, played solitaire staired at walls, yada, yada.

CHAR - Did some googling. See you may have some answer but if not one place (here http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=3039.0 ) says " I do know that there is one reference book and it can be ordered through the west virginia glass museum. "
Maybe they would even just help you via email. Who knows.

And since I know from test that one can google the exact same words in different parts of country and get different links here is my search .
    https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=&source=hp&q=culver+ltd+glassware+patterns&oq=culver%2C+ltd+glass+wear+&aq=1lv&aqi=g-l1g-lv2&aql=&gs_l=hp.1.1.0i13j0i13i15l2.92l28239l0l34026l36l30l0l0l0l0l9656l128145l0j1j1j1j0j2j0j2j2j21l30l0.frgbld.
Though, since you are in another part of country..... LOL .....oh well give it a shot.

  • CHAR - If you hover over the little pic you will see a set of boxes (fields) that are headed :

    Email & IM
    Direct link
    HTML code
    IMG code

Email & IM gives you this link
    http://s1067.photobucket.com/albums/u432/charper991/?action=view&current=DSC02197.jpg
Direct link gives you this one

When you hover over the FIELD with the code, not the heading, you then LEFT click and in teeny tiny shaded printing it say "copied". You then can then paste that link into your post or where ever.

Oh REEN - I am sorry your friend is not doing well.

GAIL MAC - Thanks. What puts the fear in me is who would take care of my critters. So I just get up dust off and keep going.

AMBER - Thanks. Hey, Reen found her camera maybe you will find yours. I always wanted to put those clapper things on stuff like that... cameras, remotes reading glasses. Clap on clap off and a light goes on over the item. LOL

CXGIRL - Yes it was, and maybe even a double yolker. Too bad it wasn't a golden goose egg. Tonight is the first time the hooded aspect over the eye is not as prominent.

  • CHAR I have been using tiny pic with no problem. If anything it is easier than a few months ago. It is a little different though. They have you type a word phrase rather than gobbledygook. It may be a bit slower than you are used too.
Maybe try again and wait for the thing to come up. It says something like to help keep scammers way please type the following into the box. At that point you can see the box to type in byt the phrase takes a bit longer to appear.

I love my FTP too and still have it but they reduced size of storage and I can not figure out how much I have so as to know what I need to get rid of to make more room 'up there' in cyber space.

REEN - Wow how pretty. Is that a Wisteria I see just behind the car? or some kind of weeping something?

  • Almost 70 here today. Unreal.

Wednesday Morning 41 1/2 hours post fall
    http://i41.tinypic.com/34e3wpw.jpg
Swelling is continuing to difuse downward and sideways. Though I kind of like the no wrinkes in the taught forehead. Hmmm May have to think about botox....Naaah.

Wednesday evening 49 hours post fall
    http://i44.tinypic.com/2zy8mqv.jpg
I am starting to get my eybrows back. Doesn't show well in the picture but I have a fine set of racoon eyes now.

The DMSO is amazing. Wish the medicos would research it to use for things like this. Works nicely on burns too. Guessing this looks more like a week to ten day old injury, rather than just 2 days.

GAIL - My stars is right . Think I saw them but did not get knocked out. Healing faster than norm due to the animal med.

REEN - I used to have to watch each step I took, but nerves have healed a bit and feet are better. Figured out it was a combo of still wearing snow boots....big grabby souls....but no snow and when I caught foot., reaction was quick, but not quick enough with the big boots. Plus I was not watching as I have not needed to recently, unless on really rough ground.
Let's just say the boots are gone till next winter, unless it gets really wet ( they are only water proof ones I have). If I need them then I will watch each and every foot placement like a hawk.
Cane would not have helped. With my luck I would have impaled myself on it and ended up on "Untold Stories of the ER". LOL

FRAN - Thank you. Glad I can sleep with my head down. The first few hours it looked like I was going to have to sleep propped up. It makes for a colorful set of pictures.

CHAR - Thanks. I have not iced since early yesterday the first 12 hours. my little gell pack broke, I froze the other one in a 'go over big lump shape' so it didn't work and I didn't wait for it to melt a bit. Tried just ice but that was too cold. so the DMSO it is.The huge factor in the faster healing it using the DMSO.

GAIL AND REEN - Maybe the morning drink was TOFFEE

  • Morning, oops guess it is afternoon, late afternoon - Typing with one eye. Can you believe it ....I fell again. That is three times in a week and a half. Ugh. Feet did their drop thing and I was not paying attention to them they caught and boom. They had been been pretty good so had been walking more normally.
Landed full forces on my forehead on my wood pallets. Huge goose egg. I actually broke down and called someone. A friend who is one step below EMT came to see if eyes were reactive. I could see they were equal but not the reaction part. I had figured since swelling was outside the skull I was probably safe from close head injury BUT...
She made me call nurse direct line and they put me through to the on call provider. That friend made me set alarm to phone her at two AM as a precaution. I did not want to sleep at her house.
Another friend was going to make me talk to her all night till I figured out what she was doing. Told her of the plan of 2 AM phone call and gave her #s to call if she was concerned. It is nice to have friends watching out for you.
Been icing and putting DMSO on it. Swelling went down dramatically and bruising is staying down too thanks to the DMSO.
This morning swelling had shifted lower and eye was swollen shut. Just now checked and swelling is moving downward.

Back to plan "A where I will literally watch every step when I go feed. If it's not one thing it's another. Keeping sense of humor.

If you get grossed out by little scrapes then don't look. If you find bumps and bruisies kind of fascinating and can tell the story behind each scar that you proudly bear then go for it.
Not the best picture of me though. LOL It did hurt like a mother, at first, but it really does not hurt now, unless it take a direct bump.

Want to thank you all for the WONDERFUL info and links about the glowy and vaseline glass. I read some before feeding yesterday. Love the one site that has comparisons in different lighting conditions. May learn to recognize good glass yet. The rest will have to wait till I have both eyes back.

For all of you in storm areas stay safe.

SHELLY - Keeping you in my thoughts during this rough time.

MARTY - beautiful tree. My Daffy leaves are up about 5- 6 inches/ They usually do not even appear till mid to late April up here. Ice is almost gone from barn area. We often still have ice on Memorial Day. Two years ago we did not get tree leaf out till June. Normal is mid to late May. Wonder when we will get it this year.

Off to feed. Wish me luck!

  • ABZOID - That is what I gleaned. Thanks for confirming. Kind of like an old logic problem from HS. lol

  • Morning all
Woke late. A little time to read and type while heat pack is on neck. Need to do dump today.

DON - Here is your wind info.
    "WIND (MPH)
    HIGHEST WIND SPEED 53
    HIGHEST GUST SPEED 66 "

    From here:http://www.nws.noaa.gov/climate/getclimate.php?wfo=abq

    Which is from here"http://www.nws.noaa.gov/climate/index.php?wfo=abq

JERSEYSTAR - Please bear with me. Am just learning.
You said "Marty, of course they glow under a blacklight, they’re vaseline glass (opalescent vaseline to be exact)." Monday, Mar 19, 2012, 9:35am

I thought Uranium made glass glow. The Imperial candle sticks that MARTY has are yellow, according to him, though they look green under the BL. He did not show a pic of them under regular light. They did look a little 'vaseliney' to me but what do I know.

Does all Vaseline glow under BL? Can other glass glow under BL yet NOT
be Vaseline? What other minerals can be put in glass to make it glow? I know that a lot of minerals fluoresce. Did they put them in to make it glow on purpose, or was it incidental to getting the right glass color?

Thought I had figured some of this out from reading, but guess not! LOL Boy I do not envy you guys who sell glass for a living.

  • FENTON - Thanks. HOLY COW!!!

    That leads to more ???
So, would the ruffle count just depend on who was making the piece? I envision a challenge in the factory... 'I can make more ruffles than you can.' LOL

The site mentions "ice cream shaped bowls". So is yours an ice cream shape or is that yet another shape not pictured?

I think I will have to count the ruffles on my Blenko ice cream bowls the next time I get them out. Don't know if that is their real name but we always called them that. Different colors about 8 inches across.

KATIE - Can you dig the grass out and put in a ground cover? Or tarp and bark over it so you don't have to deal with grass?

  • MIM - I believe AMBER called it correctly Wafer cookies. Bland cake cone like wafer with filling. Not too sweet and often a couple would come with a dish of restaurant ice cream, way back when.
Nabisco makes one in vanilla called Biscos I think. They may have more flavors now. Other companies make them in varieties with chocolate, vanilla and PINK (lol) ... fake strawberry flavor?
My favorites were ones I used to find when going through NY and stayed with friend in Rochester. They were a thicker wafer and came in chocolate or vanilla. I used to stock up big time and was always a sad day when the last ones were gone.

FENTON - was going to ask what a pony bowl was (I am a horse person so any equine word make my ears perk right up) but then saw pic with horse head to figured it out LOL. Is that a real name? Pony Bowl? or just because of the design you called it that. Is there a significance to 10 ruffles?

'Nother question about the art glass ewer. The way the handles are applied at the base between the one online and the one BAABAAMASON put up are different The online one (and a third example???) seemed to have at least three "fingers" of glass at the attachement point. One down and one pointing out at each side. BAABAAMASON's seemed to only have one "finger" pointing down.
Now, I know that with books that one small "point" can make a big difference in what you have. Is that something to look for in glass? The exact way that things are put together? Or can there be differences and still be correct?

    So much to learn.

  • MARTY - Was it something simple like you left the lens cap on??? ducking and running.

When I am starting to take a bunch of picks I always (...usually...except the time I saw the eagle take of from the pine tree) check the first one or two pics on the display screen. My auto lens caps sometimes does not open all the way. I then just get a narrow diagonal image.

I know coal bin too. Even have a coal scuttle outside on my porch step right now.

KATIE - Better than cleaning your clock. LOL

  • GAIL - Couldn't hurt to ask the electrician about the heater. If it is a thermocouple he should be able to do that as it is electrical.

  • Morning - Winter is going too fast. So much that I was going to get done. It just seems to keep piling up.

Hi SHELLY -Glad to be back.

GAIL - Sorry about your heater. Maybe it is something simple like a thermocouple. I needed to turn UP my heat this morning. Though we are warmer outside I always feel colder inside when the weather is doing the change things winter to spring or fall to winter.

Going to go try to find that glass sale link someone talked about. Could use some window shopping later.

  • Catching up as fast as I can remember.

MARTY - Hoping you will update us on the 100 year old stems. wish I could have shared my DMSO with you, for your knee. Glad it is improving.

JULIE - have a great time in Bali!

REEN - Sorry about your friend. Sending good vibes.
Hope your BS gets down again. Someone on another board had high BS problems when she was doing nothing different than having gotten a new bottle of pills. When she got a new RX for exact same med she stopped having high BS and was back to normal. Did you happen to just get a new rx? Unfortunately, they are not all equal batch to batch, even though they are supposed to be. Issues with hardeners or fillers can change absorbtion rates and make same meds work differently. Just a thought incase that could have a bearing on high BS.

  • Hi everyone - Just popping in to let you all know that I am alive. The Monitor finally went end of Feb. The fist banging had stopped helping so I went the Khrushchev route......banging it with my shoe. One time when I felt particularly agile I kicked it with my foot. LOL

Slowly I unearthed the area on and around the old monitor and determined that if I did not have to lift the monitor...just grasp it and hold it without bending or twisting...I could move it a few feet. That chore took about a week or so but finally got it done. Replaced with an old, but refurbished CRT type 14 inch Acer that one of my trail riders brought me last year. He will take my old one and see if he can fix it's loose connections or whatevers.
However, cleaning and moving the monitors triggered a nasty muscle spasm in neck/ shoulder/ back junction area...so no typing for me. Did read boards a bit but mostly zoned on muscle relaxants rotated heat packs and tried to not trigger a fresh spaz attack.

In desperation I went to the new chiropractor, up here, on Saturday. Do not like to go to new chiros as most are too hard and throw me out rather than help. She may have put a little something out but did help the spasm area. That left me feeling, not only like a limp dish rag, but a limp dish rag that was run over by a truck. lol Those who go to chiropractors may know that feeling well.
Did not wake up till NOON!! on Monday, Ten on Tuesday and today at 7:30, so looks like I am getting back to more normal wake time.

Just yesterday I had a flash of 'kind of normal'. Did not feel arm nerves grab me as much when I was feeding. Walking was a bit better...like more of a normal rhythm.

Oh yeah, during that time my foot dropped (from the nerve issues in the back)causing me to slide on ice and took me down. Kind of slow motion twisted, torked and jammed the joint then landed on knee, and pulled the muscles that go from knee up front of thighs ( quads?). Not wanting to be left out the other leg joined the slipped one and I ended up sort of sitting with legs under me and sideways a bit. Determined that nothing broke and was sore, but functional, so continued feeding and when I got to house lathered them up all with horse medicine (DMSO) which kept swelling almost nonexistent. They are just about back to normal.
It was nice to have and injury act normal. Hurt at first, then hurt a bit more the next day or so, then progress to feeling better each day and heal....unlike nerve injury that just keeps hurting forever.

Anyway ... Just letting you all know that I am OK.

Now playing catch-up on the catch-up stuff that I was already catching-up on previously. Totally clear right?

  • Glass and Pottery people. Doing double duty now. Monitor working for the moment. Speed posting here. Managed to get my Sales Tax form done and paid it and the Business registration fee.

KATIE - Thanks for the Frankoma location. OOOO! k lahoma LOL

JIM D - Have a friend who will fix, or try to fix, for no charge. Am over 6 hours from nearest store plus do not have $$ for new monitor, or even two sticks to rub together. Hardest part is unearthing old one and getting to the cords. I will just keep beating this one as I unearth or just have no computer.

RE: Opalescent glass- Realize I spelled it wrong the other day. Did not think it looked right. Oh well sometimes my brain does that to me.
Did not realize it came in other base colors thought it was only blues. Saw the post about pink opalescent. Will try to read again as first read was all squiggly and very small. lol

FRAN - Hope you feel better soon.

GORDON - Have now seen my first picture of Black Caviar. I thought she was a Black, with a name like that. I see she is a dark bay, unless she is really bleached out. Nice big haunch, deep chest and muscled up the wazoo, more like a colt in the muscling. How old is she?

A second dog attack? Who'd of thunk.

CHAR - I see you got bids. Hope you have a little war tonight.

  • Still have monitor up.
FRED PRESS is designer / maker of the gold pattern mid century glass / pitcher drink set I have here that I mentioned last week . Anyone know anything about him?

  • QUICK!!
Before my monitor implodes again. Got home PM Friday. Just before I left the monitor had been shrinking itself more times than not. When I got home it was mostly looking, at best, like a1/2 inch high by 9 inch long tongue depessor and at worse a white link across the midded. A few banging with fist and I got a wiggley image about 4- five inches high and managed to dial up get to the boards and do one message to a Pottery person, then poof. No boards, no checking weather , no email, no solitaire. Do not know why but right now have about 90 percent function so posting quickly and doing what I can.

I do have a back up monitor that a friend brought me but I still have four years of stuff on and around old one plus do not know if I caould even lift a monitor. Sooo... will slowly and methodicly remove 'stuff' and see if I can swap them at some point.

MONITOR JUST WNT AGAIN. A few taps and I can sort of see it.

Hmmm will see if I can copy and paste.

NOPe I couldn't but have it back again

POTTERY KATIE think CHAR has the K&O horse Thought it was you so that is why you got that one email I managed. Wasn't a post but message through board. Sort of read part of what you wrote on Friday after I amnged that message.
CHAR -One in really nice shape is valued at $400 in the second collecting metal horses book by Carolyn Martin. Think you should have mentioned in description original foiul label, the lasso / lariat/ the colored paintion on acents ...scarf/neckerchief, conchoes and leather strips etc. Good luck. I would get it at your price if I had any extra $$$.

Opps screen gone so can not see what I am typing. ahhh can see curos flash will wait and see if screen gets bigger and try to copy and paste. If not guess you li just think that I imploded too. lol

HA! got monitor back and signed in.

LLUDWIG - THANKS! Have copied story to email hope to read fully before monitor goes again.

GLASSIES - Saw piece of Opalessence at Mom's Home's thrift shop in the good section. 45$$ leaf shape about 8 inches long 6- 7 wide 3-4 high.

Got to post quickly before monitor goes poof again.

LOL this has taken about two and a half hours to get this far.

See you all later I hope.

  • Hi all, I am down in Illinois at chiropractor. ....on awful, strange computer. see you all at end of week

  • See bookened talk before I got post written. Should read first??? LOL

KATIE I collected bookends for a while when I had moohlah. Suprisingly most of my bookends would not hold actually books up Unless it was just two or three

So being heavy or not i would necessarily not be a determining factor.

OOOO the monitor is now about five inches high oops four inches and falling

hit post, hit post NOW. lol

  • Think mmonitor is finally giving up ghost. Right now about three inches tall and wiggleing. saw enought to see cuurson on line ---so no spell /text checking. LOL If hitting enter will post it ... then it may appear on your end

  • BEADS! / HELEN - still hard to get use to Helen.

Your bookend looks like New Martinsville Glass Co. Clear Rearing Horse bookends c.1940. 7.5 inches high x 6 inches wide. Value about ten years ago (just looked 2001 Rashkin's" Horse Antiques and Collectibles" schiffer book page101) $140-$165.

L.E. smith had a similar one but the MANE, the way the legs fold, some texturing and it is slightly taller are some of the differences.

  • This will be my first try at doing the @ with name thing to ABZOID. Will see if I break the board. lol
It was starting to snow when I fed tonight. dragged some more hay to feeding area and filled water tanks. That will save walking in snow if it accumulates. I have been so lucky to not have a lot of snow but at the same time we really need the moisture.

@abzoid - I collected red glass for a few years starting in the late 60's. I loved the cobalt but it was much more expensive. I liked the red too and that is what I used to get. I had at least 100 pieces and sold a lot of it in the 80's. I may be down to 40 or so. It is in a box waiting for me to finish house and get it out. At one point I was trying to get a sets of plates, glasses, sherbets and like cereal bowl size. I did not know proper names. Just got what I liked. Probably sold the best stuff. Think the crystal stems with ruby bowls got sold. I am not a frilly foo-foo type person. Wish I had been as that is probably the higher end glass now. I like the plain rolly polly glasses and had at least two sizes. Most of the plates and bowls were plain or very simple patterns. Think pressed rather than cut. My favorite piece is probably a big cake? plate. It has to be 14 inches or so and I want to say the pattern might be star and ball. Does that name make any sense? I have not been into the box for close to 20 years but it seems like yesterday.
I pick up glass and pottery now and then but as I am prone to dropping things when my hands don't work probably not a good idea. lol
I have a huge set of glass that was my GGP or GGGP in a sort of a yellowy-apricot color. They are buried in a room that need to be gone through. I glanced at it about 6 years ago when pipes froze and I had to move things other wise they have been packed since being brought from my GPs house in 1987.

When i first got my computer and met some ebayers I went to some auction in the Chicago area when I was there for the winter. with thoughts of reselling. Never did figure out the selling part or every time I did, ebay went and changed something and I had to relearn. Bought some glass box lots and sold six individual salt sellers that were cut and etched if memory serves. The guy who wanted them was just about salivating. (like the Keno's do on Roadshow when a great piece of furniture comes in) I know they were good and he was probably going to resell them. Think I let them go for about $6 or $8 each but that paid for the box just about and I had what I wanted from the box. Got the nicest late fifties early 60's drink set. Did some research on it. They are gold pattern, sort of Egyptian or Greek. Maybe gold and black. High balls, pitcher and a rack I think. Signed by the designer. Looked it up at the time but can not remember his name. Really should find them and get some on to sell them for me.

My extent of glass collecting now is getting excited when I find and old, non-exploding, pyrex custard cup at a thrift. lol

SUNWOMAN/Janice- Do you mean garage sale for you to buy from or to sell on? I wish I had the know how to make a selling buying site similar to ebay. Friend in Michigan's UP goes to a face book thing called YOOPER RUMAGE SALE.

  • CARL - See you addressed part of the silver coin percentage issue already. Were the Kennedy Halves more silver, and for more years, than the quarters and dimes? I have also saved the 65-67 coins off and on but did not save later than that.
I remember when they first changed there was talk of how vending machines would need to be adjusted for the difference in the metal.

SUNWOMAN, GAIL - Thanks for the good thoughts. I would try accupuncture but do not have extra $$.

    General question...
...have seen DDG used here a few times. Think I finally figured out it means Drop Dead Gorgeous. Is that correct?

SUNWOMAN - is that stew gluten free? It sounds delish.

  • Morning. I am so dopey today. Bed early, slept fairly well, but Teddy woke at 4:45 (while I was in deep sleep) with his little allergy in his throat thing bothering him. I gave him a bendryl and could not get myself back to sleep. So will be dopey for the day. I am not a napper and on the rare occasion that I fall sleep during day it never refreshes me. Just makes me more dopey.
On a good note Teddy's chokey-snortles have subsided and he is sleeping quite soundly. lol

BEADS! / Helen - Really like your painting. Thought it was ocean rather than lake and see that artist is from east coast. And she spells her name the 'right' way too. LOL

CARL - Trying to jog memory on percentage of silver in the 1965-1967 US 'silver' coins. Are 1965 -1967 silver content 75%, 50% and 25% respectively? Or 75%, 50%, 25% or something else.

With the higher price of silver, though see from your post just now, that it has dropped from the mid 40's it was last year do you know what the value of those partial silver ones would be.?
I know when they price was down around $15 or so the silver buery I talked to was not interested in in post 1964 at all.

I have a fair number of later 1800 dollars and a lot of the ones from the 20'S. Used to get them as door prizes at one job I had, when we had monthly meetings.

    Coin stories.

My sister while visiting a covered bridge in New England with Mom found a 1700's penny. Years later I was at the same bridge with my Mom and looked but no penny for me. They were graduation trips and we were visiting living and dead reatives in New England hence the same location was visited.

When I was 15 on spring break with family in Missouri's Ozarks, I got an Indian head penny in my change. 1894 or 1896 I think. I had bought an apple head doll . Still have the penny and the doll though an errant mouse ate her apple head. I 've tried to make my own replacement but can not seem to get the apple completely dried before it molds. Got really close this year.

That was georgeous cobalt class in KELLI's link. Whether old or new loved the color and style. It made me go searching around a bit and I found these links. They do not tell about her glass but I found interesting because it has examples of colors of glass. I did not know that cobalt could have different shade of blue. I had always thought cobalt meant just the deep vibrant blue.

  • REEN - Thanks for the thought of Meals on Wheels. Do not think that is available up here. Not just in the country but there is that large body of water to contend with. LOL
Besides, I have too many food issues now to eat someone elses food. I am doing really well with the greek yoghurt. It is just about a complete food and lots of protien. I have peanut butter sometimes, canned fruit and veggies and can make GF pasta when I have the energy. I even made Jello again today.

GAIL - Issues are car accident related rather that from an illness.

KELLI - Thanks again for that link to the estate sale. Loved window shopping all the items. I am going to go back to the one with the lamps and see if I can see the lamps I have from my grandparents.
One day I will have to find a photograph, to put here, a very pretty triangular-ish aqua tray. Not sure if tray is right word but it does have an edge all the way around but only about 7-8 inches on each side.

  • JULIE - The problem is the effort. When you can't do anything easily or for very long or your body won't cooperate it can be a bear. I pretty much subsist on Greek yoghurt mixed with a little strawberry jam. That is only two things to put together and that is sometimes very difficult to do. I did make Jello yesterday, though. That reminds me I need to mix more yoghurt and jam sometime today.
The small motor skill tasks are the hardest and that includes food prep. The horse chores use large motor skills and can be done quickly.

GAIL - Thanks for the pic of you and SUZY. Sounds like you have a very nice time. We have had many get-togethers with bookboard members over the years.

  • SHELLY - Thanks - Have to try to get a new Teddy V day pic by next year.

JANICE - I can't say I loved him. I do like hair but do not like the dogs with pushed in noses and bug eyes. They have so many health issues in regards to breathing and eye damage.
I happened to see him this morning. Have not watched the tape yet. I am interested to see the new breeds that they have this year if any.
    before i forget...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope you have a great day.

JULIE - Just reading that recipe makes me tired.

    http://accessdoorcounty.com/fwf/V-DAY-HEARTS.htm

I was surprised, this morning, when I was awakened by the sound of the town snow plow. Sure enough we were coated in white. We only got about two inches. Hardly warranted the plow gas but I guess they have to do it. It was pretty. Started melting a bit this afternoon. We may get a lot more tomorrow or or Thursday. They have been talking about the possibility for days now.

  • Calling all dog lovers

Tonight and tomorrow night Westminster Kennel Club Dog show. it is on CNBS and USA channel on cable. 7 or 8 PM.

For those unfamiliar with this type of show the dogs compete by breed in various catagories, From the top of my head it is ... Puppy (may have different age sections), bitch (female), dog (male). the the winner of each of those goes head to head with the other breed winners to get BEST OF BREED. Then each overall BEST OF BREED winner goes into it's respective group to be judged against each breed's official standard, not against each other,as they can have very different shapes of dogs within a group. Not sure which group are tonight If memory serve the groups are Sporting, Non-sporting, Herding, Working, Terrier, Hound and Toy.
Four of the seven groups are tonight then tomorrow the last three groups and BEST IN SHOW from the winner of each group.

I know people often find dogs on a book cover, a knick knack, etched in glass glazed in pottery or in a sculpture. I remember times that people ask what kind of dog is this what do I call it?
Well now is a chance to see lots of different breed and learn to "guess" what is on your item.

  • JULIE - You scared me for a minute when I read your 'Monday' comment. Thought I had lost a day. LOL

  • KATIE - Your lamp is very similar to one that was my Dad's (mine now) from the 20's. Manly looking at the basic form and the way the cord attaches.

BILL - Does the fact that there is a Star of David on your plate, rather than a five pointed, star mean anything special?

  • MARTY - Enjoy! Ahh one thing I really miss...PIZZA. Now that I can get to the oven maybe I can learn how to make a GF one that I like.

BOB-USA - Thanks for putting up the link to the estate sale. I enjoyed window shopping. Am closing browser windows to restart. I had three browsers open with the estate pics. This is message I got with one of them. May be an all time record for me of tabs open. "You are about to close 79 tabs. Are you sure you want to continue?" LOL

SHELLY - Certain antibiotics are much better for respiratory infections than others. I am surprised at the number of doctors who still just prescribe ones not as effective. Hope you doc gave you a good one.

SUZY - Glad your vase got there safely. At least it wasn't slamming around inside the box and luck was with you. I will never forget the time at work when we got a $400.00 case of champagne returned damaged and UPS said poor packaging. Do not remember the final outcome when I pointed out the tire tracks across the half flattened box.

  • Morning -

MARTY - Are the cobalt ones in shell shapes? They look like oyster, scallop-esk and snail. Doing some googing and see a term "lay-down". So do yours lay-down or stand up?

Arrgh. It is not loading right now here is that link.

  • Hi everyone.
I got to and USED my oven Monday night. Have most cans / jars packets put ’somewhere’ besides in bags on the floor. Got to the last section that I have not been able to get to for close to four years. Picked up a pile of storage lids that fell between two big fixtures about 2 1/2 years ago. They await washing. Long handled grabbers are such nice tools.

Wish I knew three years ago what I know now, in regards to gluten free food. Gave a bunch that went bad to neighbor who feeds birds and furry rats ( squirrels). Various chips, crackers and things like rice cakes that were not all that good in the first place and then got stale. Don't know why I held on to them Not like they would magically taste better later. lol
I have cans and cans of GF soup that have some funny seasoning the doesn't like me so I can only eat it once and a while. Oh well.

Found one amethyst candle stick that I think came from my grandparents house. I will have to find a place for it.

Went to the 'chat about' glass link but it wanted me to sign in. I could only see a trial page. What I saw was neat.

The love bird bowl is way cool. It seems to be more detailed than the etsy/ebay(?) bowl. Is it older?

CHATSWORTH - Lovely candle sticks. I would say they they look more like bluebell blue than cobalt.

JIM -What a neat Hawk. Our hawks are usually only here in the summer or for migration. I have not seen any of the resident eagles all winter.

SHELLY - Glad you are feeling better.

  • OMG! INCREDIBLE MOON RISE!!

If it hasn't yet come up where ever you are try to take a look. HUGE Orange -Yellow Has to be one of top ten moon rises of my life.

Saw it at about 5:30 Central time here. It was just over the horizon at that time. Tried to take picture but think I was too shakey.

  • Morning - Googled to find if azure-ite was the color that I thought it was and found this site which led to the other links .
    http://spglass.com/fire-king.html http://spglass.com/Ca-z.html#bubble http://spglass.com/Ca-z.html#bubble
Wondering if they are as good a site for learning as I think it is. Have looked at a page each the Fire King, AH and just plain Hocking. Can't get Bubble to load pics for m and forest green look interesting. Off to restart then see if they will load.

  • KATIE - Keep meaning to ask you. Can you post a picture of your swirl bowls. Do not know what they are.

  • Morning
If I don't post now I will probably forget.

KATIE and MARTY - Re: the green sherbert. Though still have much learning to acquire in the glass field, I noticed a small difference between the sherbert in the link that Katie put up (the "F in Shield" Federal one) and MARTY's unmarked one. If you go in very close (using "control +") and look at the bases of each, Marty's has a straighter "shoulder" on the foot. Katie's marked one is a bit more rounded.
Does that mean anything? I remember a discussion on some pieces where that seemed to be a point.

ABZOID - I LOVE!!! your blue opal glass.

Back to the kitchen. Got the back door open on Friday and now working my way to the window. Slowly working my way through four years of not being able to 'do' normal stuff. Still not normal but will take any little improvement I get.
Teddy was sick this morning. Poor thing was trying to eat dry stalks without success and ended up eating dried fern fronds outside to trigger his "get sick" response. He seems to be done now. Do not know what triggered it and that bothers me.

  • Hi everyone.

I have been asked about on Book, Pottery and Glass boards so I will do a sort of blanket post.
Got back from Illinois the week after NY. Was tired and kept falling asleep. That sometimes happens after an adjustment. The aligning process hits what I call my "sleepy nerve". One night I fell asleep in the computer chair for about 7 hours. Kept sort of waking up but could not wake up enough to go to bed.

I have been reading the boards between working in kitchen to "unearth" and gaining some headway there, but problems when I went to post. Upped my tramadol so as to try to "do more" which has it's own issues. Had a lot of computer "not responding" Took so much time to get it to respond I would be zoned out again.
Guess today the planets are aligned or something. Woke to frozen computer, restarted, managed to type a post which I have not yet lost, connection is holding, too, so this should work.

Enjoying the first of the month top sales on BOOK board. maybe POTTERY and GLASS will do the same. Love to see what is selling.

SHELLY , CLEM(Paula), DIANE, And all (because I probably forgot some) who express concern about me. It is nice to be thought of. Need to have a tech do a specific thing to my computer to help stop the freezing/not responding thing but do not have money for that now.
My car is not fixable, frame wise, either, so will have to find something to haul trailer with. New used late 1990's suburban with 100,000 miles are about $5000-$6000. Can't afford much more is that.
Car is great mechanically, if you don't count unscrewing the battery terminal every time I stop so it won't discharge, and the now no A/C, and then there is a corner of the frame missing that holds the gas tank ( 340 pounds when full). At least they finally found the gas leak (that I have had them look for for 4 months), so that was another almost $400 on a car that I can't use to haul with.

Anyway life goes on. Have not had to be plowed all winter, saving somewhat on heating propane since it is not as continually cold as normal, have managed to keep toes from frostbite this year thanks in large part to heated floor mat at desk. Not here much but when I fall asleep it doesn't take long to affect those compromised toes again. We have been down to 3 degrees. We do need snow though as we are very dry. Most on ground at one time is only 2-3 inches.

So...Teddy and I are OK. Would love to teach him a new trick this winter if I can think of a good one. He has made huge strides in his stairs issues. He will now stop part way up or down and not freak out. He does this on my direction but is now sometimes doing it on his own.

APOLLO update I see many have asked how he is doing but Casino may have missed those queries.

I talked to Charlie around the holidays. He said Apollo was doing well. He is on the same diet that Cheri worked out for him. I think he was 5 years old last August. It couldn't be 6 years could it?

JULIE - Wow! on you Lithgow pitcher. It was great to see it jump at the end. Tried to post that night too, and then the computer froze for the umpteenth time. LOL

LLUDWIG - Keep those quizzes and stories coming. Enjoy them all. Good thing you figured out about the book sale before you went.

FURTIMA - Are you going to show us some of your new paintings? Hey, did you happen to "CSI NY" That dealt with counterfeit drugs, pill hardeners, mag, stearate? Thought of your funny batch and the ones I have had that are funny. Interesting to see it highlighted in a show as most people have no clue that there can be any problems with their RX's or OTC drugs.

GORDON - Would be nice if you put some still shots up once and a while. I did see the van and the rock. Scary about them falling/jumping down the hill into the water and the Mastiff. Dealt with a HUGE St. Bernard and my Penny (before Teddy) once. No one hurt but it could have been bad.

GAIL - Were you one who got a horribly packed bowl set that was smashed? I felt so bad for you. Some one else got one about the same time from same seller, I think. Hate the loss of the irreplaceable antique items.

I used to collect metal horse bookends. Set came box with a few crumpled wads of news paper and one was just about folded in half from being slammed around in box. Vintage too. Never saw another just like them.

BOB - Congratulations on your upcoming retirement.

CASINO - Good thoughts for Pat. About Jake's "60 Minute" interview. I taped it. My sister taped it, as a back up, but she wiped hers out because she forgot I needed it. I picked up my tape to go watch and MY tape vanished between the upstairs and downstairs VCRs. UGH.
It has to be here somewhere....but where. I did see the previews that were on in the morning. He looked great.

Well folks, this is way too much sitting and typing for me. I'll be reading.

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hope everyone had a great day.

On computer at Mom's retierment home. Arrived safe and sound last night.
Picked up Mom and we did grocery shopping. Car ran well, no real traffic my direction but was heavy going north to GB, for the Packers/ Bear game. Was up at 5 yesterday so slept late this morning. Heading to bed again soon.

Teddy has been a hit in his reindeer dog outfit.
