• @decoqueen : I've seen quite a number of those paperweights over the years, usually lettered with the name of some town or business & sometimes an image in the center.

They were often included in special "souvenir assortments", along with various other novely glass souvenir shapes, in the Butler Bros. Wholesale Catalogs during the 1900-1915 era. The deal worked like this: A business or town or event etc, had to order a minimum of one gross (144) of these items. You had to specify what you wanted lettered or stencilled on them, ie; "Souvenir of Hogwart, Mississippi", or "Souvenir of Coonhollow Worlds Fair" or "Compliments of I.P.Daily Plumbers" etc. Butler Brothers would then forward the order to the glass factory & the factory's decorated dept. would then letter or stencil them & ship them off to the customer. They were then either sold as souvenirs or given away to the businesse's customers. They wholesaled from 78 to 90 cents per dozen. I've seen them with various town names, store & business names & even with transfer Or stencilled images in the center. Numerous glass companies made & offered these assortments thru Butler Bros, including U.S.Glass, Westmoreland & others.

  • @decoqueen JANICE ... CLICK HERE to see these items. I think they are quite pretty.

  • Good Morning everyonew. Very chilly this morning. Ice on the car ..Brrrrrr Sun is shining though so if it wasn’t for the wind it would be a very nice day. Days like this would great if you lived in a GLASS House
    JimD @newtonenterprises Happy Anniversary
Janice @decoqueen Maybe its a paper weight . Could it have had some old advertising in it or maybe it was a souvenir paper weight and had a pic of the place in it.
    Julie

  • Wow, I surely overslept this morning!

@carma CARL ... I just can't get over the weather this year. You are under snow after snow. I've only worn a heavy coat 2 times this year...once simply to go to the mailbox because the wind was so strong. Suppose to possibly reach 80Β° today!

@amber1986 AMBER ... pressed glass and pattern glass are interchangeable words for the most part. If you say Early American Pattern Glass or Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG) that means a certain time period 1850-1910 +- . Also it refers to more than one item (usually) made in a particular pattern. The minimum is usually a 4-piece table set...sugar, creamer, butter, spooner. All EAPG is pressed glass....but not all pressed glass is EAPG. You could have pressed glass made in the 40s, 50s, 60s up to today...but they would not be EAPG.

@decoqueen JANICE ... I've never sold anywhere on-line other than eBay. Sure wish one of these alternate sites would eventually be able to give eBay a run for their money.

Well, as I scroll I see Carl answered the pressed vs pattern already. Also see where GEORGE answere @10bbg10 HELEN on the Model Flint Glass Co....so Helen you have Peerless in the wrong category by listing it in Flint. Regarding the price...EAPG is a hard sell and though very pretty Peerless is not in high demand as a pattern. I would think your price all right if it were a covered compote, but basically would expect to see it lower for an open compote ... especially when shipping costs a lot because of size and weight. JMHO.

@abzoid TOBY ... oh drat, you reminded me that I have to get a tree man out to give me an estimate for cutting down a HUGE dead tree! πŸ™

I have a new little grandson that was born February 28. I'm still waiting for a picture so that I can post it. They posted one to Facebook but I don't know how to get it over to here. Hoping they send me one via email. πŸ˜€ So very happy. His name is Connor.

  • Janice @decoqueen - Thank you very much ! This newbie appreciates the assistance & help !!!

  • Good barely afternoon glass friends. Beatiful day but a chilly 35 degrees here in Indy. We slept in until 9:00 a.m. this morning. I had gone back to bed at 5:00 a.m. Guess 5 hours of sleep at one time is about what this old body needs. Not bad at 4 hours of work and 5 hours of sleep.
I think my glass cutting problem is solved. A few weeks back we measured each piece in our plate glass inventory. I think we have 2 pieces that will work for my current show case need. Need to get DH to help get them out and remeasure. I haven't checked in a couple of years but last time I did check the charge was $6 for each cut and polish.

@decoqueen --- Lovely glass but I had always thought of custard glass being more translucent. Still---- have to chalk up the 'what-do-I-know' ?

Can't believe that I finally wrote and posted the listing for those ebony petal footed sauce / sherbets that I asked to have IDed weeks ago. Just got tired of seeing those pictures on my sandisk.

Making meatballs and spaghetti for lunch. Come on over.

  • @decoqueen JANICE ... what an unusual looking bowl considering the weight. Made me wonder if it belong in some sort of serving pan thingy that kept things warm.

@shellyrae37 SHELLY ... I'm just really fortunate to have this lady who comes to help. I couldn't begin to get much done without her help as I just cannot lift things much or do much stooping and bending for any period of time.

Well, I got the item packed. Now to print packing slip, postage, etc. and get the box sealed. Just had to take a coffee-sipping break for a moment. πŸ™‚

  • I am wiped out from spending most of the day rearranging my mall booths. Will have a break tomorrow but must do more on Monday.
Thank you @songbreeze and @decoqueen for help on the stopper.
@sunwoman3663 Janice, Glad to see that you feel like coming in for a visit. I hope that you will gain and keep a higher level of strength over these next weeks.

  • @decoqueen JANICE ... thank you so much for checking on my perfume. I really appreciate it.

@panishklo MARSON ... sure did enjoy the chocolate. πŸ˜€ Thanks!

@fran dbfrogs FRAN ... glad you go your car in the garage. πŸ™‚ Thanks for looking for my perfume.

@amber1986 AMBER ... would love to see a pic of your little snowman.

    Goodnight to all ....

  • @decoqueen Janice, Thank you. The Tiffin Stem is stunning. Thank you for sharing.

@neacenacks Mable, when I had that trouble, I had to reset my computer to a set point before I had installed the new toolbar.
I'm not that good with these confusers but I'm sure others will have better ways of dealing with your trouble.

@donscns Don, Thanks for setting me straight. I will certainly give Gail the thanks and credit she deserves. Still, it was very nice of you to cover the coffee during her trip.

    Tony

  • @decoqueen Janice, Thank you so much. I could not get the thumbprints to open on your site. I would love it if you could post a link to a regular size pic of the set. Is that taller stem in the center also Morgantown? Looks the part.

    Thank you again....Tony

  • Good morning Glassies all.

Today makes two beautiful days in a row. Chance of sprinkles early AM tomorrow then three or more days of great weather. The weather man said that is the longest stretch of good weather since June. I’ll take it and am loving it as winter seams to be coming much to soon.

@decoqueen Janice, Thank you so much. I have only seen the Arena pieces in Blue and Green and never in that size except for yours and the Brown/Amber Five I have. I have never seen the Rack. There is a great variance in the sizes of those pieces. The jigger is said to be 2 5/8” tall. LOL I am in contact with the Old Morgantown Glass Collectors Guild and have sent them a pic with dimensions so they can add this size to the next Book. May I send them your pic as another example of them in this size. If you ever see one in the Brown/Amber or the rack please let me know as I would love to complete my set.

@fran Hope you feel better soon. You take it easy and I’ll hope for the best.

@carma Carl Congrats to Marley. You must be beaming with pride. Will be rooting for her and the Saints. !!!GO SAINTS!!!

@donscns Don, just love the coffee today. Don’t know how you all find those things in such variety. Thanks.

@newtonenterprises Jim, Last time at the country house I went to some Flee markets and picked up my first two pieces of Crown Tuscan. The little Cornucopia and a Small Vase. Think I did OK. Have no pics yet but will show them to you when I can. Think I will get no more till I can afford a lovely Lady piece or two.

    Tony…On my way out.

  • We are back from the dental surgery project. DH is feeling pretty well but has a script for Vicodin. So guess the dentist anticipates that there will be some pain. He is enjoying a cup of hot soup. Never will it be said that this man doesn't want to eat. LOL. Thirty / forty minutes have passed and he is now in his lift recliner and is fast asleep . ( Don't be confused . I deleted the earlier message because so much time has passed from when I started the message until I was ready to post it.)

@decoqueen --- I did not under stand about the wire rack. Did you mean that the set was fitted in a wire rack ? In any case it is a very pretty set.

I looked at it yesterday but had to go back and take a look at Alicia's vase to be sure that I remembered what it looked like.

Beautiful glass @lilylalique --- I always prefer the cranberry or red over blue.

I have had many of the GF books but have heard some very unkind remarks from people who have tried to deal with him at flea markets and such. It seems that he thinks the seller should reduce the asking price to a bare minimum because he needs the item for one of his books.

I did respond to the shoe question with specific measurements . And revised the listing to add those measurements. But got the idea that this son was a pre-teen. Isn't that early for a sexual preference declaration ?

Fran , I hope your chicken soup does the trick.

    Helen in Indy

  • @decoqueen Love it All!!! Thanks for sharing
@fran (((((hugs))))) I hope you don't get a cold. BTW I thought of you yesterday while I was out celebrating the Melbourne Cup Races. I ordered a Cosmopolitan. The pub had a Special on for the race day. πŸ™‚ These ones were a bit too sweet for me, maybe too much cranberry and not enough Vodka LOL
    Julie

  • @decoqueen
Your Art Deco is Amazing! I Love Art Deco!
I have a small collection of Lady Glass Flower Frogs, I have a wonderful Deco stained glass window in my kitchen.

I feel like I am getting a cold, sore throat , darn, darn, my BFF is coming in from Florida on Thursday for a week, for her DH's 50th Birthday on 11-11 -11!
I made homemade Chicken Soup for dinner, hoping it will do the trick!
    Fran

  • Hi all.

Just scrolling the board as I had a little time.

Hope all those up north who have no power get it back soon. My prayers are with you. Hang in there.

@decoqueen Janice, Looking at your beautiful pieces on the link. On the line with the six pack of red tumblers with the white line decoration. I think they may be Morgantown. Would you be so kind to post a pic from the side of one with dimensions? I would like to compare it with a set I have in Amber Glass. BTW, I just love those Deco Ladies. Wonderful Collection. Made a mess of my keyboard. LOL

    Tony

  • @decoqueen - Janice - Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful collection. It's so deco I can almost see Fred and Ginger dancing thru the room. Hi everybody- a good day but a busy one. Have a good evening all- Nancyjean

  • Morning Glassies ~!~! Gorgeous fall day here. Just a little soreness in my legs after that mountain climbing expedition easy to moderate hiking trail. 80 yr old men were going faster than me.

I'm "stuck" again after clicking on "mentions". I really like this feature because it's easy to see and reply to those who have mentioned me, but what am I not doing so I can get back to the actual chat?

@oklahomasong-Gail - Yeah, I know how touchy they can be getting to those places. I used to hold Marsha on my lap and sort of nibble away at the touchy places a little at a time. Thanks for the comment on my vase. I hope someone will know it. Happy Birthday and have a wonderful visit with family!

@decoqueen - That's nice coincidence! Have you been in the area yourself?

@wattleihavenext - thank you. I always love your pictures of Aussie Land and it never fails to stir the desire to one day see it for myself. Sorry for not replying last night, but I totally did not see your post at all and swear it appeared mysteriously overnight and that's my story and I'm sticking to it. πŸ˜†

    Happy Birthday Marson!

@Shelly - I clicked on my bookmark to go to Chatabout yesterday and now AVG is stopping me from going there too! Never did before.

    Anyone else have this problem?

  • Good Morning everyone. Feeling a bit down. It would have been DH's Birthday today and today we bury a young friend (49yrs old) who died suddenly lasy week.

On a happy note Happy Birthday Fran @fran
cxgirl @mary No there is no butterfly mark to be found on the perfume. That was one of the first questioned I had asked the owner
Carl @carma I wish Marley the best of luck today
Katie @fyrqueen I don't like to rake either.I leave the leaves to mulch. Where there used to be just dirt all the time from when DH would be always raking leaves, I know have green grass.
Helen @10bbg10 I was thinking about suggesting that maybe the sellers could add a link every now & then to their posts here.
    @decoqueen Thanks for looking
Lainey @favoritegram off to have a look now.
    Julie

  • @baabaamason you always seem to find some lovely items
@decoqueen That price seems OK to me. I think having the pink glass insert would make it even more special. That is if it was original & not a "marriage" But how you would ever know I am clueless. Dh never had one with pink, just mainly clear glass and some green glass
    Julie

  • @decoqueen Im not really sure. But I dont think its a bad price providing its old. I just started thinking about them since i saw an Akro one in upstate NY back in August.
I do think they are pretty cool though!
    Scott

  • Good morning, glassies.

@scott SCOTT ... I agree things balance. I've bought a hundred things that I've paid way too much for...and a hundred things I got for a steal. Each is a learning process and things do balance as I learn from it.

@decoqueen JANICE & @jagofc TONY ... sure was glad to be able to bookmark to favorites the Houze sites. It already helped me ID one item I had.

Have to go get ready for Tai Chi class. See you all later.

  • Hi @Shellyrae37 & @decoqueen , Great Site. Here is another. The museum is not open yet but they hope to open this year. Close to the country house. πŸ™‚

    http://www.houzeglassmuseum.com
    The Photo gallery is great.

    Tony

  • @wattleihavenext JULIE ... seems you've been having a bit of a wild Spring with your weather.

@baabaamason BOB in KY ... so glad for you that you were able to purchase the tumblers. Don, did you place the bid for him or did you snipe?

@decoqueen JANICE ... I find looking through the Mosser catalog painful. I worked so hard to learn the patterns of a lot of EAPG and Depression Glass, then I see a Mosser or Rosso catalog and just groan. Having to try to learn what all was repro'd and in what colors. Too sad. πŸ™

  • @decoqueen Janice, Could be Mosser. It just looked to me as though it had some shelf wear. The Mosser would be newer glass, No? I couldn't get a good enough look on that Mosser site.

@gabla George, In McCain, they say that LATE THISTLE (Inverted Thistle) was made in Crystal and Ruby Stained. No mention of color. I don't know Jack about Cambridge Colors. With my luck, it will be Mosser. LOL

Tony...out the door for a few errands. BBL

  • Just back from taking care of my DS pets while she's out of town.

@suzy okcoolwheels SUZY ... Not as described is the correct thing to use when the item arrives broken. I'm scrolling UP the board so you may already have your cup commented on. Even so you might enjoy this website for restaurant ware... http://www.restaurantwarecollectors.com/

@faeowyn SHARI ... what an unusual decoration on that vase. Sorry I can't help. Hope someone else will be able to clue us in. I'm going to go ahead and post this message and then look at the other items you've posted.

@mary cxgirl MARY & @decoqueen JANICE ... oh, yea! someone who knows perfumes! I've got one of those ornate things I surely need help with. I'll take a picture at some point and maybe you all can check on it for me.

Mary... sure the seller is suppose to have the insurance built in. That's why I said "In spite of eBay policy" she made the purchase of it up to the buyer. I did not purchase it. She called eBay and wasn't particularly happy with their answer. This is a quote to me from her email "I guess I really have no option...I don't think I would normally be responsible for an item damaged in shipping (as ebay told me)...." Like JimD said...some people are just amateurs.

  • Good evening, glassies. Well, I went to church this morning and after Mass and coffee/cake and fellowship in the Parish Hall, my friend and I headed out of town and drove to Kansas. We shopped till we dropped! Can't say I found any particularly wonderful treasures, but did pick up a few things and had a great time.

@mary cxgirl MARY ... Oh, how I wish I could find a Steuben signature on those plates. No such luck and still searching for an ID on them.

@reen REEN ... that is absolutley positively indubitably the most gorgeous piece of glass I've seen in I don't know when...and to think it is a smoke bell! Incredible. If you ever put it up for sale, let me know.

@decoqueen JANICE ... I buy a lot of stuff from that West Virginia Museum of Glass. Last December I drove from Oklahoma to New York to Washington DC area and really wanted to stop at the Museum on my way back to Oklahoma. Unfortunately, both bad weather and the days they were closed worked against me and I had to by-pass it.

@ginnyrose CAROL ... I found this article very helpful in trying to distinguish among Fostoria American, Whitehall and Jeannette Cube. Maybe you will find it interesting too. http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y201/m05/abu0038/s06

@baabaamason BOB in KY ... sorry, I don't have any ideas on your lovely art glass items.

@susu46 SUSU ... to get the blue "mention" to show up you have to use the person's LOG-IN ID. Their display name will only work as a link if it is the same as the Log-In ID. You have to click on the avatar to see their Log-In ID. I open a second window of the chatroom so I can check the Log-In names.

@scott SCOTT and @reen REEN ... So love seeing pictures of people's collections. Terrific! and thanks to both of you for sharing. Can never see too many pictures of glass, so keep the photos coming!

@reen REEN ... if you get up to step 7, and you click the open...isn't it rather like uploading a pic to eBay. You tell it upload and then it should show up here. I can't quite remember how I did mine but it took several tries. I didn't have problem uploading the picture...I had difficulty in cropping it correctly. Are you at least getting the picture uploaded here back to your profile page?

Need to think about fixing some supper.....

  • Gee, I've had company in and out of the house or on the phone all evening.

@dorbitz JIML ... If you click on anyone's picture you will see their Display Name and to the side of it you will see their Log-in name. For half of us, the Display and Log-in names are the same. For the other half, they are different. If you put an @ sign in front of the LOG-IN name, the person mentioned will get an email telling them that they have been mentioned.

Up in the right hand area of the screen the "How To" Manual tab fills you in on a lot of these little tricks. πŸ™‚

@donnah DONNAH ... Good to see you. Hope you've had a fine day.

@decoqueen JANICE ... Was wondering if the Museum of American Glass was some place different or if it was the West Virginia Museum of American Glass that you were referring to? Boy, sure do wish my bookshelves were filled with all their books, monographs, catalogs, and papers!

  • evening, y'all. i so love looking at your glass.

@decoqueen thank you so much for the suggestions. so far nothing has helped, but i have learned that wd40 is not deadly to silver, it has enough space that water can leak between the cobalt liner and the silver bowl and i am not done trying. hhhhhhhhhh. i wonder if i could list it with a bullet hole.

  • @decoqueen Not signed unfortunately with a not particularly distinctive cut design.

    george

  • @decoqueen Is that you Janice?

    scott

  • I've just been up to my ears in alligators i've been so busy today. Heaven forbid, haven't even fix my supper yet.

@glassusa BOB ... beautiful vase! I could really enjoy getting up early for estate and yard sales if I could ever find even one piece as pretty as that. No such luck in this area.

@wattleihavenext JULIE ... well, you made it through the weekend, I see. I'm sure you'll have a swap meet lined up for next week or else something to keep you busy for sure! Can't have another boring weekend. LOL.

@fyrqueen KATIE ... I love my furkids, but boy, what a headache when I want to travel. So hard to find a decent babysitter.

@decoqueen ... HI, there, and welcome to the New Glass Chatroom!
