Hello Glassies.... I know some of you used to frequent the old pottery board, so I thought you might like to know that Liz (OhLiz) ,one of the long time potties, passed away last night. She had been in ill health, and took a turn for the worse this week. I was honored to have the chance to meet and spend a day with her several years ago.
She will be missed very much.
Janice from the pottery board.

Just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you all are safe and warm, and your waste band has enough stretch in it!
Gail: There is an online site called "knittinghelp.com" which has little videos that show and explain to you how to knit, purl, etc. It was a great benefit to me when I wanted to learn to knit. I always learn better with visuals, and I think it might be a help to you too!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes!
Had a good day. Went to an estate auction and bought a couple of glass cake stands. Only wanted one, but they sold 2 together. So my daughter will get one. Also was taken out for lunch. Weather was beautiful too. A really nice day for me.

Good morning!!
Don: There is a gentleman on one of the Fenton FB groups I belong to, and he has 83 curios in his house, all shapes and sizes. They are lined up and positioned back to back in his house. He collects all sorts of glass, not just Fenton, although Fenton is the largest collection he has, all sorted by color or maker. I am not sure if he is a collector or a hoarder. But it is amazing to look at!

Good afternoon ! I have a question for selling on ebay...how can I offer free shipping? No matter what I do, the listing shows a shipping charge, and I want to offer free shipping. NO amount of editing works. Things have changed so much since I last listed anything.
Janice
-
Shelly: Now we know! LOL!!
Janice
-
Shelly: I know my way around the internet, but I don't know much about glass. Just remembered Fenton did a blue slag style and did a little hunting. Wasn't even sure if your item was Fenton but took a chance. I lucked out.
Janice

Good morning Glassies:
Shelly: Your vase might be Fenton, there is one like it in the 1970 catalog.

-
Carl: I use Thunderbird for my mail, my geek son recommended it. Easy to set up and use, which works for me!
Janice
-
Shelly: It sure looks like a Westmoreland trinket box, but my book is from 1940 to 1985. So can't verify, sorry.
Janice (still glass ignorant but trying to learn)
-
Shelly: Does yours have the cameo pic like the one Replacements shows ( which is upside down and broken)?
There is one shown in my Westmoreland Glass book.
Janice
-
Shelly: It has the gloss finish. The matte finish doesn't shine like yours does. These were sold in the Fenton Gift shop and are from 1977. The ware number is #7255BE. My Burmese book gives a BV of $95, but you know that doesn't mean anything on ebay, LOL!
Janice
-
Shelly: the vase you posted is Burmese. You said yours is undecorated, is yours matte or shiny? I have a Fenton Burmese book, so if you can post a pic of yours, I can probably give you more info.
Morning Glassies!

@jmart8248 : The book shows your canister, which is listed as a cookie jar, on page 22 of Sanford’s book on Robinson Ransbottom Pottery (RRPCO). RRPCO did lots of different versions of cookie jars at that time, most were handpainted. The book dates yours from the 40’s – 50’s. No other info.
The crocks are from the spatterware line that RRPCO did in the late 70’s and early 80’s. The spatterware was done in 2 colors, October Blue and Buckeye Brown. The blue is more common as the blue and white color for stoneware was popular at that time. The other name for the spatterware pattern is Suburban, although most people just say Spatterware. Unfortunately my book doesn’t give any more info on it.
RRPCO is no longer in business.

Good afternoonGlassies! Hope y'all are having a nice day. The weather here in TN is absolutely lovely!

Carl: I am leaving Bonanza also. Plan is to start back on ebay next month, right after my grandson (who lives with us) goes back to school and I have more time during the day to do it. The site was nice and easy to use but without promotion nothing is selling, so why bother??
Janice
-
@jmart8248 (and all glassies): When inquiring about pottery or dinnerware, a picture of the bottom of the item is most helpful. Even if unmarked, the way a bottom looks can give clues to makers, or can help with the dating of items.
Janice
-
@baabaamason: Most collectors will be looking for Desert Rose dishes made in the USA, but of course, sometimes a piece won't be marked. Sometimes they will have a small number on the back and nothing else. As to the best marks this site has a list of Franciscan marks. At the left, click "archive library" and then "Franciscan marks". A PDF booklet will appear, and for Desert Rose you will want the marks shown on page 4 (near the bottom),page 5, page 6, page 7, page 10, and 11.
http://www.gmcb.com/franciscan/
Janice
-
@wellingtonct: The crock you described sounds like Robinson Ransbottom Pottery (RRPCO), from Roseville Ohio. It's often confused with Roseville Pottery, which was not made in Roseville Ohio, but in Zanesville Ohio.
Janice
-
Good morning Glassies....been browsing the boards postings for the last few days. I swear I am never going to get a handle on glass, but I keep trying!
Shelly and Irene: I noticed your conversation on insurance. Ebay policy is that the seller pays for insurance. You can't charge a separate fee for insurance to your buyers, but you can add the cost for insurance to your opening bid or call it a handling fee. Ebay says insurance protects the seller, so the seller is the one that should insure the item.

Janice
-
Janice (ver2us1) posted an update Friday, Feb 8, 2013, 6:50pm EST, 11 years, 3 months ago
@baabaamason: Malwarebytes is a program that can remove malicious software from your computer like computer viruses, ransomware, worms, trojan horses, spyware, adware, other malicious programs; the majority of active malware threats are usually worms or trojans rather than viruses.
Somehow the program was put on your desktop, and when you clicked on it, it was asking if you wanted it installed (make changes to your computer). I had it on my old computer but I have Norton on this one (through my ISP) so I don't need it now.

@10bbg10 : Helen, if I were to count all the different styles and variations of bowls shown in my Folk Art Reference Guide, there would be over 40 different ones. There are 5 different cereal bowls alone, depending on size and style, or if the pattern is on the outside of the bowl or inside. Depending on when the bowls were produced, measurements can vary on plates and bowls. THats one reason measurements are important in listings.

@10bbg10 : Helen, the liquid in a snow globe is usually just distilled water, so it would not be considered hazardous. You would have to declare that your item has water in it.

If you wish to see a waffle set like Irene's, do a google image search for "made in japan waffle set'...there is a white set with no side decoration but it is similar to what Irene's pitcher is.
Janice
-
Irene: I looked at your pitcher and I believe your pitcher is part of what is known as a Waffle Set. A set would have consisted of an 8 ounce batter pitcher, a 4 ounce syrup pitcher and a matching tray for the pitchers to sit on. These sets were made of ivory colored earthenware in a ribbed pattern, with various raised floral decorations. Some waffle sets would also include a cream pitcher.
Creamware is usually English, I think (I could be wrong, I don't know much about non-USA dinnerware) but since your pitcher is MIJ, then I don't think it can be considered creamware.

Reen: Monmouth/Western Stoneware also used a maple leaf as one of it’s marks. There are many variations of the maple leaf mark, but most are attributed to Monmouth/Western Stoneware, as is the ”USA” in a rectangle. There are other marks for Monmouth/Western Stoneware also, but the maple leaf and the USA in a rectangle are the more common ones.

Reen: Some people don't leave funds in their paypal accounts or have them set up to immediately pay. I don't want ebay having immediate access to my bank account, nor do I use credit cards. If I am going to bid on or buy something, I have to either have enough funds in my paypal account or I have to add funds, which can take 3-5 business days (or I buy a greendot card to add funds immediately). If I plan on bidding on an auction, I usually try to add the funds several days before the auction ends, but sometimes I have to wait a day or two before the funds arrive. I always inform the seller what is happening and what day the funds are due to be there.
-
Good evening glassies...just doing my daily scroll of the board...
@10bbg10 : Delivery confirmation is free if the mailing label is printed online. If not, and the seller wants delivery confirmation on the package, the post office will charge them for it, and in return, the seller will most likely add the cost to the shipping charge added to your item.
