@decoqueen : I've seen quite a number of those paperweights over the years, usually lettered with the name of some town or business & sometimes an image in the center.

They were often included in special "souvenir assortments", along with various other novely glass souvenir shapes, in the Butler Bros. Wholesale Catalogs during the 1900-1915 era. The deal worked like this: A business or town or event etc, had to order a minimum of one gross (144) of these items. You had to specify what you wanted lettered or stencilled on them, ie; "Souvenir of Hogwart, Mississippi", or "Souvenir of Coonhollow Worlds Fair" or "Compliments of I.P.Daily Plumbers" etc. Butler Brothers would then forward the order to the glass factory & the factory's decorated dept. would then letter or stencil them & ship them off to the customer. They were then either sold as souvenirs or given away to the businesse's customers. They wholesaled from 78 to 90 cents per dozen. I've seen them with various town names, store & business names & even with transfer Or stencilled images in the center. Numerous glass companies made & offered these assortments thru Butler Bros, including U.S.Glass, Westmoreland & others.

Wow, I surely overslept this morning!

@carma CARL ... I just can't get over the weather this year. You are under snow after snow. I've only worn a heavy coat 2 times this year...once simply to go to the mailbox because the wind was so strong. Suppose to possibly reach 80° today!

@amber1986 AMBER ... pressed glass and pattern glass are interchangeable words for the most part. If you say Early American Pattern Glass or Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG) that means a certain time period 1850-1910 +- . Also it refers to more than one item (usually) made in a particular pattern. The minimum is usually a 4-piece table set...sugar, creamer, butter, spooner. All EAPG is pressed glass....but not all pressed glass is EAPG. You could have pressed glass made in the 40s, 50s, 60s up to today...but they would not be EAPG.

@decoqueen JANICE ... I've never sold anywhere on-line other than eBay. Sure wish one of these alternate sites would eventually be able to give eBay a run for their money.

Well, as I scroll I see Carl answered the pressed vs pattern already. Also see where GEORGE answere @10bbg10 HELEN on the Model Flint Glass Co....so Helen you have Peerless in the wrong category by listing it in Flint. Regarding the price...EAPG is a hard sell and though very pretty Peerless is not in high demand as a pattern. I would think your price all right if it were a covered compote, but basically would expect to see it lower for an open compote ... especially when shipping costs a lot because of size and weight. JMHO.

@abzoid TOBY ... oh drat, you reminded me that I have to get a tree man out to give me an estimate for cutting down a HUGE dead tree! 🙁

I have a new little grandson that was born February 28. I'm still waiting for a picture so that I can post it. They posted one to Facebook but I don't know how to get it over to here. Hoping they send me one via email. 😀 So very happy. His name is Connor.

Good barely afternoon glass friends. Beatiful day but a chilly 35 degrees here in Indy. We slept in until 9:00 a.m. this morning. I had gone back to bed at 5:00 a.m. Guess 5 hours of sleep at one time is about what this old body needs. Not bad at 4 hours of work and 5 hours of sleep.
I think my glass cutting problem is solved. A few weeks back we measured each piece in our plate glass inventory. I think we have 2 pieces that will work for my current show case need. Need to get DH to help get them out and remeasure. I haven't checked in a couple of years but last time I did check the charge was $6 for each cut and polish.

@decoqueen --- Lovely glass but I had always thought of custard glass being more translucent. Still---- have to chalk up the 'what-do-I-know' ?

Can't believe that I finally wrote and posted the listing for those ebony petal footed sauce / sherbets that I asked to have IDed weeks ago. Just got tired of seeing those pictures on my sandisk.

Making meatballs and spaghetti for lunch. Come on over.

Good morning Glassies all.

Today makes two beautiful days in a row. Chance of sprinkles early AM tomorrow then three or more days of great weather. The weather man said that is the longest stretch of good weather since June. I’ll take it and am loving it as winter seams to be coming much to soon.

@decoqueen Janice, Thank you so much. I have only seen the Arena pieces in Blue and Green and never in that size except for yours and the Brown/Amber Five I have. I have never seen the Rack. There is a great variance in the sizes of those pieces. The jigger is said to be 2 5/8” tall. LOL I am in contact with the Old Morgantown Glass Collectors Guild and have sent them a pic with dimensions so they can add this size to the next Book. May I send them your pic as another example of them in this size. If you ever see one in the Brown/Amber or the rack please let me know as I would love to complete my set.

@fran Hope you feel better soon. You take it easy and I’ll hope for the best.

@carma Carl Congrats to Marley. You must be beaming with pride. Will be rooting for her and the Saints. !!!GO SAINTS!!!

@donscns Don, just love the coffee today. Don’t know how you all find those things in such variety. Thanks.

@newtonenterprises Jim, Last time at the country house I went to some Flee markets and picked up my first two pieces of Crown Tuscan. The little Cornucopia and a Small Vase. Think I did OK. Have no pics yet but will show them to you when I can. Think I will get no more till I can afford a lovely Lady piece or two.

Tony…On my way out.

We are back from the dental surgery project. DH is feeling pretty well but has a script for Vicodin. So guess the dentist anticipates that there will be some pain. He is enjoying a cup of hot soup. Never will it be said that this man doesn't want to eat. LOL. Thirty / forty minutes have passed and he is now in his lift recliner and is fast asleep . ( Don't be confused . I deleted the earlier message because so much time has passed from when I started the message until I was ready to post it.)

@decoqueen --- I did not under stand about the wire rack. Did you mean that the set was fitted in a wire rack ? In any case it is a very pretty set.

I looked at it yesterday but had to go back and take a look at Alicia's vase to be sure that I remembered what it looked like.

Beautiful glass @lilylalique --- I always prefer the cranberry or red over blue.

I have had many of the GF books but have heard some very unkind remarks from people who have tried to deal with him at flea markets and such. It seems that he thinks the seller should reduce the asking price to a bare minimum because he needs the item for one of his books.

I did respond to the shoe question with specific measurements . And revised the listing to add those measurements. But got the idea that this son was a pre-teen. Isn't that early for a sexual preference declaration ?

Fran , I hope your chicken soup does the trick.

Sorry for not replying last night, but I totally did not see your post at all and swear it appeared mysteriously overnight and that's my story and I'm sticking to it. 😆

Happy Birthday Marson!

@Shelly - I clicked on my bookmark to go to Chatabout yesterday and now AVG is stopping me from going there too! Never did before.

Anyone else have this problem?

Katie @fyrqueen I don't like to rake either.I leave the leaves to mulch. Where there used to be just dirt all the time from when DH would be always raking leaves, I know have green grass.
That is if it was original & not a "marriage" But how you would ever know I am clueless. Dh never had one with pink, just mainly clear glass and some green glass

Mary... sure the seller is suppose to have the insurance built in. That's why I said "In spite of eBay policy" she made the purchase of it up to the buyer. I did not purchase it. She called eBay and wasn't particularly happy with their answer. This is a quote to me from her email "I guess I really have no option...I don't think I would normally be responsible for an item damaged in shipping (as ebay told me)...." Like JimD said...some people are just amateurs.

Good evening, glassies. Well, I went to church this morning and after Mass and coffee/cake and fellowship in the Parish Hall, my friend and I headed out of town and drove to Kansas. We shopped till we dropped! Can't say I found any particularly wonderful treasures, but did pick up a few things and had a great time.

@mary cxgirl MARY ... Oh, how I wish I could find a Steuben signature on those plates. No such luck and still searching for an ID on them.

@reen REEN ... that is absolutley positively indubitably the most gorgeous piece of glass I've seen in I don't know when...and to think it is a smoke bell! Incredible. If you ever put it up for sale, let me know.

@decoqueen JANICE ... I buy a lot of stuff from that West Virginia Museum of Glass. Last December I drove from Oklahoma to New York to Washington DC area and really wanted to stop at the Museum on my way back to Oklahoma. Unfortunately, both bad weather and the days they were closed worked against me and I had to by-pass it.

@ginnyrose CAROL ... I found this article very helpful in trying to distinguish among Fostoria American, Whitehall and Jeannette Cube. Maybe you will find it interesting too. http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y201/m05/abu0038/s06

@baabaamason BOB in KY ... sorry, I don't have any ideas on your lovely art glass items.

@susu46 SUSU ... to get the blue "mention" to show up you have to use the person's LOG-IN ID. Their display name will only work as a link if it is the same as the Log-In ID. You have to click on the avatar to see their Log-In ID. I open a second window of the chatroom so I can check the Log-In names.

@scott SCOTT and @reen REEN ... So love seeing pictures of people's collections. Terrific! and thanks to both of you for sharing. Can never see too many pictures of glass, so keep the photos coming!

@reen REEN ... if you get up to step 7, and you click the open...isn't it rather like uploading a pic to eBay. You tell it upload and then it should show up here. I can't quite remember how I did mine but it took several tries. I didn't have problem uploading the picture...I had difficulty in cropping it correctly. Are you at least getting the picture uploaded here back to your profile page?

Need to think about fixing some supper.....

@dorbitz JIML ... If you click on anyone's picture you will see their Display Name and to the side of it you will see their Log-in name. For half of us, the Display and Log-in names are the same. For the other half, they are different. If you put an @ sign in front of the LOG-IN name, the person mentioned will get an email telling them that they have been mentioned.

Up in the right hand area of the screen the "How To" Manual tab fills you in on a lot of these little tricks. 🙂
