• Thanks Nancy, Julie πŸ™‚ WOW, I feel old today, lol.

We're still hanging in there. Jerry has been fighting lung cancer for the past year and half, but we're thrilled because his last scan showed no evidence of disease. Hooray! Man, getting old ain't for sissies.

Hope you all are well and happy! <3

  • Thank you all for the Happy Birthday wishes! Gosh, it's been so long. I hope everyone is doing well, and that you're all happy πŸ™‚

  • Shelly, still no grandbaby, he is stubborn already, haha. Daughter's due date isn't until the 17th, but the dr. thinks it will be sooner - much. So we are on alert. πŸ™‚ First babies, you just never know when they will come.

  • And here they are now πŸ™‚

    Lucy:

    Belle:

  • Hi you all! Thanks so much for the birthday wishes! πŸ™‚

Julie, I love the card! We lost our Sassy (our little dachsie) in April of 2013 - and Sadie (our choc lab) in June of the same year. They were such precious members of our family, and not a day goes by that I don't think of them both. Last year we adopted two little Corgi sisters and they are now running our household. This photo is from when they first came home with us:

  • I missed George! Hi there stranger! Good to see you πŸ™‚

  • Thanks for the greetings Julie and Shelly! Hope you're both doing well!!

Shelly, our youngest daughter is due with her first, any minute/hour/day now. LOL. We are on high alert, and since she and her husband live here, we will get to be present - if not in the delivery room, then right outside. AND this is one grandbaby I'll get to babysit! The others all live back in Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

    I'm excited, if you can't tell πŸ˜€

  • Gail, still selling, but using a new selling ID and have basically retired enchantmentglass. You can find us on eBay as "JerryFinds". Doing more than glass, but still seem to gravitate to it. πŸ™‚ Also still doing the graphic art business, and husband working fulltime at his counseling practice.

A new grandbaby literally on his way too - daughter is in pre-labor, she could go any time - so on pins and needles. Matthew will make #8, and we also have 2 great grandsons. Life is just too short, and goes too fast!

  • Hi you all! Another oldtimer here, wanting to wish Gail the very best - so sorry to hear you are having to fight cancer. Damned cancer! I'm glad your sister is nearby and you won't be going through this alone. I know you can do it, Gail. Prayers and our very best wishes to you.

  • And Don, thank you for the email!!! <3

  • Wow! Many thanks for all the nice birthday greetings, and that famous slice of cake! πŸ™‚ Thanks!

It has been a busy few months, with both my job and Jerry's job taking new directions. Glass selling has kind of languished, while we got more involved with job stuff. Also spent an extra long vacation in Indianapolis over the Christmas holiday, lol - it wasn't planned, but blizzards don't really care about your plans! HA! Always a good reminder about who is really in charge. It sure isn't us! But we sure enjoyed the extra time with our sons, daughter in law, and grands. They can, however, KEEP the snow!

I hope everyone here is well and happy. Let's make 2013 the best so far!

  • I ran across this website during my internet travels this week, and thought some of you may get a kick out of the creativity of this gal. Don't we all have a stack of 1 or 2 "too beautiful to throw away, but not good for much" antique plates? Look what she's created from them. πŸ™‚

    http://www.beatupcreations.com/

  • Bob, so glad you had a nice birthday and it was nice to share one of your cakestands with your "way older" brother. πŸ™‚

Carl and Julie, I don't blame you a bit for waiting until this recent glitch is done. You're right, it's hard enough to get a good price for things these days without having to battle with your selling venue!

  • I listed a few things last night and haven't had any issues that I know of with listings - maybe it was just a regional thing?

  • Carl, glad you found the rescheduling feature. Wish I'd seen your post earlier today, would have saved you a lot of trouble, lol - I use that feature most weeks. I list when I have time, then reschedule everything once I decide when to start them. It's one of the few things on eBay that seems to work consistently. Sshhhh, don't say it too loud, eBay techs will hear us and decide to "tweak" it!

Hi to Shelly, Helen and Suzy, and Reen - hope you're getting a doc to take a look at you.

  • @wattleihavenext - Hi Julie!! Thanks so much - I did go through my big British Glass book just now, S&W being my focus. πŸ™‚ Thanks for the tip, it never hurts to check out all leads, and I appreciate them.

  • Fenton, hi! LOL, English or French - okay! I hadn't even considered English, but do have a good English Glass book that I'll get out this evening. πŸ™‚

Gail, hiya! Good to see you too! Appreciate you looking at the pics. So much of this stuff's history we will never really know, I guess, and will just have to enjoy looking at it.

  • Hi Glassies one and all!

Been a long time since I stopped in, hope everyone is doing well?

Julie, glad to hear you're happy with your sales at the big flea market. Sorry to hear about the crowds getting thinner everywhere though. A sign of the times for sure.

About 5 years ago a couple of our larger consignment malls closed up shop, and I really thought it was the end for folks like us - but in the last 2 years they have reopened with new owners, and other smaller shops have opened up as well. I think it's more that people aren't shopping on eBay for treasures as much as they are locally. To everything, there is a season, and all that.

BUT - we still get out there and buy. Of course. Once it's in your blood, you can't NOT go at least look, lol.

Here's a piece that Jerry found last weekend, that I just got a few photos of. We're thinking German or Czech, but totally not sure. It's 13" in diameter and 4.625" deep. Cased white on the bottom, clear on the top, with enamel decoration on the inside. Faded gold decoration on the bottom, ground pontil. Glows like crazy under UV light. Any ideas, anyone?

  • Hi everyone - long time no see!

I hope this finds everyone well. πŸ™‚ Our glass adventures continue, but on a smaller scale. My graphics business is busier than it's been in years, for some weird reason, and my husband is busy with his business that he started April of 2011, so our glass hunting/selling has taken a back seat. Maybe it's just because we're getting older, but we aren't rushing around as much as we used to, lol.

We still go to estate sales every week of course, once that's in your blood it's hard to quit! HA! But we don't spend as much, and are selling a lot of the less expensive things at local auction instead of eBay. Less hassle, and actually better realized profit on so many of the things that used to do gangbusters on eBay - but don't any longer. When I take into consideration not having to spend on packing materials, "free" shipping, ebay fees, PayPal fees, and dealing with people who want to offer 1/100th of an item's value - it's a nobrainer for us. We're lucky to have a reputable auction house here we can use.

Thanks to Don and Suzy who emailed recently, sorry I haven't checked in for so long. Here's hoping you all are still having fun collecting and selling, and learning about glass!

  • @songbreeze - Gail, LOL! Wow, thank you for calling your sis. πŸ™‚ He sounds like he was quite a pill, ha! I will do just that, I'll contact them and see what they have to say. Thanks again.

  • @shellyrae37, Shelly, check this website for the duck, there are so many makers it comes down to how the beaks and the bases are formed, a lot of times: https://sites.google.com/site/muranozoo/home

  • @songbreeze - Gail, thanks. Yes, not a lot of info out there about the fella. Maybe I'll write to the University of OK Ceramics Dept., lol. Hey, couldn't hurt I guess.

  • @shellyrae37 - oh, good for you, Shelly! It's an amazing surgery that makes life so much easier πŸ™‚ Just think of all the mall shopping, thrift shopping, yard sales, etc that you'll be able to do once you do your PT after!

  • @glass*usa(Bob) - thank you so much!! I never, ever would have guessed Paden City. The glass is pretty rough looking, not their usual quality. Thanks for solving my mystery!

  • And to all the Oklahoma Glassies - I know some of you are Potties too. Does the name Roger Corsaw ring a bell? He apparently taught ceramics at University of Ok since the mid 1930s and died in 2004. He worked under John Frank (the guy who started Frankoma) and did some nice pottery himself - he has pieces in the Smithsonian. We found a nice vase by him, from his "early years". I posted on the PGP Board and got a couple of responses but info on his work is pretty much non-existent.

  • @songbreeze - here's that pitcher I was talking about. It's only about 7" tall, and the more I look at it the more I think Jenkins or something. The glass quality isn't that nice, but the etching is, lol. And it's kind of squarish shaped, like a fridge pitcher maybe. 40's, 50s latest.

Please don't bother looking for it in books, I am not planning on listing it, just was curious if you have seen one before. And excuse my photos, they are awful.

  • @shellyrae37 - Shelly, I don't get here often enough - why will you be laid up?

    @songbreeze - Gail, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
    Click Me!

Katie and Nora, what gorgeous iris you ladies each have!

  • @jerseystar/Nancy P - thanks Nancy! As soon as Jerry brought it home, I knew I had to give it a bath, take pics, and then pack it up so I wouldn't be tempted. We've had a few pieces of Queens over the years, and I can only bring myself to keep the pieces that aren't perfect - the good ones sell for way too much for me to keep, lol. I like things that I don't have to be afraid of displaying or using. Too many grandkids in and out of the house, it's not worth worrying about things getting broken and someone feeling bad.

  • Morning all, thanks for the congrats on our sale. πŸ™‚

Gail, glad you are safe, hope Suzy is too and the rest of our glassies in the path of the nasty weather.

I have a little pitcher to show you later, Gail, once I get pics. It's got an etched pattern on it, but looks more like EAPG glass to me - odd combo but you'll probably know it right off once I post it.

Hope everyone has a good Monday!

  • Thanks Don and Julie! BIG GRIN HERE!

Don, I just took over a bunch of stuff last week, but they're saving most of it for the Mother's Day auction. Okay by me, however they can get the best return works for them AND us. Hope your items do really well for you!

  • Nora, thanks! Sure came at a good time, whew, things have been slow!

  • Evening all!

Nora, pretty vase - I'd guess contemporary, most likely Italian or even Asian, based on the ground unfinished pontil.

We're happy dancing tonight, had a good ending on a piece of American Brilliant. πŸ™‚

  • @songbreeze – Gail, I have had photo sessions like that too. There are fewer and fewer pieces I’m willing to fiddle with photos on, they have to be really worth the time and effort these days. So much easier and actually more profitable a lot of the time to take them to local live auction. Gotta change with the times.

Was sad to read about Boyd, and I also wonder if Mosser can hang on much longer. Such a shame, but ”to everything there is a season”…. and I’m glad I got to enjoy all this beautiful sparkly stuff during my lifetime. I hope I’ve instilled an appreciation of it in my kids and grandkids (who all get pieces of ours they’ve admired over the years as gifts).

  • @Fran2 - Fran, yes, that's my favorite nest. πŸ™‚ There are lots of others, but one that is fun to see right now is one that was started by a 3rd grade class in Blair, WI. It's near where my grandkids live, so they are very involved. This eagle pair hatched their VERY FIRST babies this year, and it's cute to watch them trying to figure out what to do. Here's a link to their camera, and also one to their website so you can get the backstory.

    Enjoy. πŸ™‚

  • @fran2 - thanks for looking for the vase too, Fran!

The other day when I brought this home, the first thing I did was look at eBay and search "Fenton Feather", since that's what the design looks like to me. I got ZERO results, in current and completed. Made me think I was going to have to ask here, and it turns out it had to have been one of those days when their search engine was screwed up. This afternoon of course I find a gazillion "Fenton Feather" pieces on ebay. Murphy's Law!

  • Gail, Toby - thank you very very much!!

  • Gail, yes, it's been a few weeks - I'm involved in a project at work, plus watching some eagle families hatch their eaglets. πŸ™‚ Time sure gets away from me, when I'm watching the miracle of new life.

Thanks for looking at the vase πŸ™‚

  • Fran - what a precious little bunny!

  • Happy Easter to All Glassies!

Gail, ugh, I don't know - I usually just work with people who pull that on me, and so far I've only had one not pay after promising to do so. It was years ago though, so I don't remember how I handled it. Probably lost my FVF. Hopefully someone with more recent experience will know.

We found a large Fenton vase, but in searching google I don't see this particular one - does anyone recognize this sapphire blue vase with a "feather" or plume design on the sides - 9.75" tall, 7.5" wide? Has the oval Fenton trademark and "9" below that.

  • @shellyrae37 - Dear Shelly, so sorry to read of the passing of your sons father. I know that you will be able to comfort them, and that will help you too. Very difficult to lose someone who has been such a big part of your life, no matter what.

That tall vase you posted photos of is American Brilliant Period glass, but could be from one of ever so many makers. Look closely for an acid-etched mark, but remember that more pieces were unmarked than were marked, from that era.

  • @jessie - WOW! Definitely the same coloring and spangled treatment! Thank you, and I can search further using that name you found. I owe ya!

  • @jessie - nice to see you! Thanks, vasa murrhina's definitely what I'd call the coloration on my vase. πŸ™‚ Not sure though, I think that's a term that Fenton coined for their pieces - I don't know if it's used by other makers. Anyone? Perhaps other makers just called it "spangled" glass.

  • @wattleihavenext Julie, thanks for looking! It's probably not a big deal, just another pretty from heaven knows who.

  • @fran - hey! Glad to hear you're nearly feeling back to normal! I'll take your word for it on the cleaning lady, what a treat that must be!

@fyrqueen - we go down to Hatch at the end of summer, first part of fall and buy chiles right off the farm. πŸ™‚ A friend has one of those big roasters, and we all get together and do a big chile roast, then peel and bag bunches of them and split them up between us all. Usually get enough to last us through at least the first part of the winter, we use them in/on/under/around everything, too.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, yes, it's pretty colorful all right!

Ravioli would normally sound good to me, I love pasta. Ditto Bill's BBQ ribs and YG taters on the grill - but we ate a late lunch of green chile chicken enchiladas, at about 3pm. That'll tide us over until tomorrow's brunch.

  • Okay, Gail, I got up off my lazy rump and took pics of this vase. πŸ™‚ Had to prove that if that other vase had impetigo, then ours only has a bad case of glitteritis.

If anyone has any clues on maker, I'd sure appreciate some input. I tend to always think English on stuff like this, but I'm only right half the time, lol.

  • @songbreeze - LOL, because of the color it does make the vase look like it has a bad rash, or a case of the cooties. Ours is differently colored, hopefully it won't look like it has a skin condition. πŸ˜‰ Just thought I'd get a general feel of whether I'm wasting my time taking pics of something that was made in someone's garage yesterday, or something that's actually a good piece.

  • I have a question on a vase shape - there's currently one listed on eBay that is basically the same shape as one I found today. Ours is spangled too, but different colors. Does anyone know who made pieces like this in the States?
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/BEAUTIFUL-ANTIQUE-CASED-SPANGLED-ART-GLASS-VASE-/380300865219?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588bb2aec3#ht_777wt_1093

  • On the page I linked to (CMOG), over on the left hand side, put a checkmark in the "Viewable Online" box, and then type what you want to see in the search box and click the little magnifying glass icon. I did that with the search term "crystal" and came up with a bunch. πŸ™‚

  • @reen, so glad to hear about your nephew - crossing my fingers that the next couple of days result in success and full recovery begun.

@wattleihavenext - so sorry again about your friend, and glad that his send off was full of love and comfort for you all.

@songbreeze - ugh, sorry about your cold and your poor pink and raw nose! Hope you're on the mend too.

@sellingthings - Marty, sorry your advertised estate sales were fibbing today. That is irritating, and disappointing, I know. So many people list what should really be called yard or garage sales as Estate Sales, thinking they can price things higher, I guess. We're supposed to go to a couple tomorrow too, here's hoping your Saturday sales pan out and so do ours. πŸ™‚

Don't know if you all know this, but on cmog.com - Corning Museum of Glass - they have a lot of trade catalogs, old auction catalogs, photos, patent info, etc - in the Rakow Library. Many are scanned in and saved in pdf format, and are viewable online! I found a Mt. Washington Cut Glass catalog, many old Baccarat and St. Louis Crystal catalogs, plus several others that are interesting. Worth a bookmark! http://www.cmog.org/research/library-search

  • @itsagas - I guess I could do it like this, but somehow it's not as fun. πŸ˜‰

    http://www.enchantmentglass.com/dancingcat.gif

  • @itsagas - Bill, amazing sale! Congratulations! If I could, I'd post the Dancing Cat for you here, lol.

Mr. George, hope your family has something wonderful planned for you today. πŸ™‚

Hope it's a fabulous day for you!

@reen - so sorry about your nephew! What a horrible thing, my positive thoughts and prayers for him and his family.

  • Morning all!

@sjell - hi Betty, so glad you joined!

@wattleihavenext - Julie, so sorry about your dear friend. Cancer has robbed so many πŸ™

  • @reen - Reen, English Hobnail is a pattern name made by Westmoreland. I don't know a French Hobnail, unless you mean Fenton's French Opalescent Hobnail (which is just Fenton's Hobnail in a particular color/glass). Hopefully Toby will factcheck me, lol - I don't do much with pressed glass and Toby's forgotten more than I ever knew.

  • @reen - #1 is German or Polish Leaded Crystal. It may be 30 years old, but that's where it's from - a gift store item, I've even seen them in Big Lots stores.

@songbreeze - Gail, according to one of the eBay reps who finally answered my specific question -

"Re: Using Text in picturesFeb 28, 2012 05:53 PM Reply | Report Abuse

Arrows showing flaws in the item are accpetable. Putting text on your listing in your description is also ok. Putting text and arrows as you upload pictures on to the eBay Picture Hosting Service is not ok.

    -Jess
    ________

Basically, the way I understand it - on Gallery pics and those pics that you get for free from eBay, that show up at the top of the listing in that little bar - they want NO text added to those, with the exception of small, unobtrusive watermarks to protect your photo. But in the listing description, you can have text on your self-hosted photos in that area. Now another rep may come tomorrow and say something different, so don't take anything to heart yet! I don't trust those customer service reps to know the first thing of what they're talking about.

  • @songbreeze - Gail, there's currently a special discussion board on the new "enhancements" for Spring 2012. The photo issue is getting a lot of negative attention - I wouldn't make any changes yet. None of the reps seem to know anything for sure, and they are contradicting themselves in their answers to sellers questions. I'm not going to worry just yet. Not supposed to happen until fall, according to the last rep - but free pics start July 2.

  • @songbreeze - Gail, I saw that this morning too and thought "what the heck". They're taking all the individuality out of our listings .... really stinks I think. Makes me wonder though if that only pertains to the pics that they are providing FREE, or does it also pertain to those of us who use our own image hosts? I'm hoping there will be a thread on the PowerSeller board where they will answer that question for us. *sigh*

  • @sellingthings - Marty, good for you! Sometimes it takes a day or so to get a response, but you'll always get some input. πŸ™‚

  • Shelly, hi! Lladro made lots of pieces in matte finish, as well as glazed.

  • Well, I should have read more before posting - looks like Julie already steered Gail to PV for the ivy ball. I didn't think of Imperial though!

  • @sellingthings - Marty - go here and post your nice pics of your bowl. It's definitely cut glass. Get out the blacklight tonight and see what you see when you shine it on the piece in a dark room - should have kind of a pale green color showing, the amount could be a little or a lot. Heaven only knows who made it, unless you can find a mark - they are awfully hard to see when they're marked, and a good 75% of ABP was NOT marked at all.

    https://www.facebook.com/AmericanCutGlassAssociation

@songbreeze - Gail - have you checked Portieux/Vallerysthal for your ivy ball vase?

  • @bdogmike - YAY! Hi, Mike, so great to see you! I know the restaurant/bar business burns people out, so many long hours! We will be so happy to have you with us more often!

My son, daughter in law and grandkids moved from Seattle last year to Fishers, IN, near you I'm thinking?

  • Definitely Aseda on that vase, Nina - I have 2 of the blue ones, a green one, and a red one in the back bedroom window. Love colored glass in the windows!

@wattleihavenext - Julie, I emailed the person in charge of that neat site you gave me a link to a couple months ago, on the Portieux sugar? http://opaline.defoire.pagesperso-orange.fr/opale/articles/artable.html
I also sent him pics of our yellow ones, in case he wanted an example for his records and notes. He sent me the nicest email back!

    "Hello,

and thanks you so much for your appreciations on my web site and for your photos.

Your item is not a milk glass but it's much better ! It 's made in ouraline (with oxyde d'uranium), we says too : verre d'urane but in Portieux'catalogs this type of glass is calling "dichroΓ―de or dychroΓ―de" .
Your sugar cup "Renaissance" by Portieux (about 1920) is rare in ouraline (verre d'urane) and it is really so nice.

Please sorry for my bad english.

    Kind regards.

    Richard DuboucarrΓ©"

Thought you'd get a kick out of that. πŸ™‚ Thanks again for the great site!

  • Congratulations, Marty, fantastic return on your investment!

Fran - so sorry to hear about you being in the hospital! Ugh! Do what they tell you, and rest up, so you can get home!

  • @songbreeze, so glad he came home of his own accord, Gail!

  • Did I hear someone say butter cookies?

My all time favorite recipe, I can only make 2 batches, one to give and one to keep - otherwise I'd eat every one I made.
    http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/shortbread-cookies-recipe/index.html

Happy Birthday to Sharon, I hope it was a fun one! We run across Kralik glass on occasion, I love some of the designs.

Laurie, hope things went okay with the bone-cruncher. Hope you get some relief!

  • @Suzy - WOW, Rosepoint, lol! Well, it has roses on it, must be Rosepoint, right? LMBO!

  • @Suzy, good going on finding the maker of your powder jar!

Bill, I wondered about that Maddux - have had a few of those lamps over the years and Maddox seemed wrong but I wasn't sure.

  • @donscns - Don, yes, we bought all but one oval bowl which had chips. We were able to get a good deal on all of it, this was at Judy Settle's warehouse (where she brings all the stuff she hasn't been able to sell at the original estate sales). I'm guessing this was originally at one of her Santa Fe estate sales, and was probably priced through the roof originally which is why it didn't sell first time. We get to a few of her sales up north, but not all of them - just too far to drive to be price gouged, lol.

  • @suzy, thank you too! We were excited to wake up to a bid. I really figured with money as tight as it is right now we'd be waiting to see a bid, if at all. Sometimes you just never know, lol.

  • @newtonenterprises - Jim, wow, thanks! I'm blushing at your compliment, thank you very much! I haven't spent a lot on photo equipment, but have tried my best with what I've got. Really appreciate it!

  • We listed our first piece of that pretty blue cut to clear, and it's already bid. πŸ™‚ I'm a happy camper, with opening bid 3/4 of the haul we brought home is paid for.

This one might be a fun one to watch, I'll post a link:

Here are the workers putting the finishing touches on enough birthday cake to serve everyone. πŸ˜‰

    Happy Birthday Susan and NancyJean!

  • @carma - thanks very much Carma!

@itsagas - lol, Bill, but you nailed it - again, thanks. πŸ™‚

  • @itsagas - Bill, thanks very much! I will definitely take your suggestion on the title/info on the listing, and will check Loetz.com's info. Sure appreciate it!

  • @abzoid - Toby, thank you so much! I will use all 3 terms then when listing, without fear of smackdown, lol.

  • ACK Julie!!! So sorry about your tray!!

  • Morning all!

    Happy Birthday Butchiedog! http://www.enchantmentglass.com/hbmike.gif

Fran, so sorry to read about your mom-in-law - hope she's going to be okay. Hugs to you and Doug and the family.
Shelly, also sorry to read about your ex - I'm grateful you get to see the family all together, just wish it were for a better reason.

DUGAN GLASS folks - I've seen this piece referred to as "Pompeiian", "Venetian", "gold overshot" - which in the heck is it, any, all, or neither?

    http://www.enchantmentglass.com/dugan1.jpg

When I bought it I first thought Rindskopf or Kralik or the like, which is exactly what Dugan had in mind when they came up with this finish/shape, I'm sure. πŸ™‚ These pieces were made to capitalize on the wildly popular styles of those Bohemian makers and styles of the era. Am I right in thinking between 1900-1910 on this Hyacinth vase?

  • oh, I do have those plastic gloves, nice and new in their package, under the sink. Bought them several years ago and always forget to wear them. Oh well, I'm wrinkled everywhere else, my hands may as well match. πŸ˜‰

  • @fyrqueen - Katie, I have a SIL that is very much like your BIL. Only this gal wants stuff not because she loves it - it's so YOU can't have it. Very nasty, mean person. I'm glad my husband couldn't care less about the "stuff" his mom has, because this sister would fight him tooth and nail for it. Ugh, life's too short.

  • @fyrqueen - Katie - EEK! I'd have broken at least one piece once I discovered spiders on it, just from throwing it away from me! I can do crickets and june bugs, but spiders - gives me goosebumps to even think about them. I just soaked the plates in Dawn detergent and reasonably hot water, then washed and dried and went back over the weird spots with goo-gone, Magic Eraser, and washed and dried again. Now all sparkly. πŸ™‚ My hands? Another story, lol. Nothing will mess with the blue on these, since the blue isn't a stain or applied treatment, it's actually another layer of glass.

But for today - I think I'm done messing with them.

Irene, ditto what Toby said about your pretty plate - so many makers loved natural themes like butterflies, flowers, birds, etc - really difficult to pin it down to one maker.

  • @glassusa - Bob, what a fantastic find! Bet you're glad you went! πŸ™‚

@shellyrae37 - we're going to sell them, but first I need to spend a whole bunch of time cleaning each piece. The goblets, bowls and highballs are fine, but whoever owned this set used the plates and put them away with some kind of syrupy stuff stuck to them that has petrified. Probably from a wedding ceremony or shower 30+ years ago, lol, and the stuff is going to need to soak for awhile to remove it without scratching the crystal. UGH, I wish people would take care of their stuff. HA!

  • Shelly - we held out and bought all that pretty blue cut to clear at the sale this morning. πŸ˜‰ WOW do I have my work cut out for me - I will be seeing blue cut crystal in my sleep, lol.

  • Shelly, pretty things! Love the little Murano salts and master salt. You might check with the folks over on the Murano Glass forum and see if anyone knows who made those:

  • Morning all!

@glassusa - Bob, usually sales only run a weekend around here, this sale is an oddball in that there is just SO MUCH STUFF and in a very small home, so she has to only allow 10 folks in at a time. She only runs the sale a couple of days on the weekend, thus the need to string it out for 3 weeks.

This gal actually retired, had been doing estate sales for many many years and her husband got ill and required care so she retired. His health has improved, and she said she "couldn't stand not being busy" so started back up again. She's really a character - from the South, with a very southern drawl, and just a sweetheart. I just wish she'd have priced things to sell instead of to slobber over, lol.

  • Well, folks, that sale was too rich for our blood. We'll have to wait for half price day (which will be in 3 weeks) to be able to get even a couple of things that we have a chance at a small profit on.

Bob (glass*usa) - those mantle lustres were nearly $1000. I about fell over. Everything else was definitely priced at antique shop prices, definitely not for resale.

    Bummer.

  • @songbreeze - Gail, thanks so much for looking. I too have gone through lots of sites, and find that the vast majority of this type of glass is Bohemian. The serving pieces in the center of the table I would almost bet are Val St. Lambert, but won't be sure until I see in person. Darn, wish I were a wealthy woman, lol, I'd buy it all anyway and figure it out later!

  • Hi all!

Fran, welcome home - glad you had such a nice time, sorry about the flu though!

Laurie, you're so welcome for the estate sale link! We are ready to go, and if they'd let us in the night before we'd be there now, lol.

Of course - when it rains, it pours. Just got an email from someone who is selling some estate items this weekend - does anyone recognize this blue cut to clear pattern? There is one pattern on the goblets, plates, bowls, champagnes and hiballs, and another pattern on the center compotes and service pieces. Wish I had better pics to show, but this is all I have:

    http://www.enchantmentglass.com/bluectc.jpg

I have to go for a couple of hours, but will check back to see if anyone recognizes this purty stuff. πŸ™‚

  • @glass*usa - that stinks! No chip that I can see, and ebay's made it easy for the scammers to take advantage. Block that person from ever doing that to you again, ugh.

I am hoping that she will be reasonable on her prices, she usually is - we'll be there early to get first peek at least.

Shelly, the sale runs two weekends according to her ad, but all the really nice pieces will go home with someone the first day - probably the first hour.

  • Shelly, hi! Yes, I'll definitely be at that sale. I just hope the prices are reasonable - sure looks like lots of unique things as well as nice old Consolidated and MOP pieces.

  • Morning and Happy Valentine's Day, Glassies!

DON - heads up! You WANT to come up to Albuquerque for this sale of Sharon Lusk's - take a look at what's for sale!
    http://www.sharonsales.com/salephotos.html

I never met this lady, but apparently she was an avid collector and was probably at most of the estate sales while she could still get around comfortably. What a collection!!

  • Morning glassies!

Just had a chance to scroll through yesterday's posts - @songbreeze - Gail, if your other helpful glassies fall through and fail to pay shipping/disposal costs on that Wisteria bowl, I will take care of it. πŸ˜‰ Seriously, what a gorgeous piece - I've never seen one of those with the lovebirds, in person. Now you can say you've handled a piece of American Brilliant, though!

  • Lainey, yes, I have my auctions linked on enchantment glass' Facebook page, just wonder if it's okay to mention it in our listings. We'll find out, lol. If they pull a listing because of it, then we'll know. It's sure next to impossible to get a straight answer from eBay customer service.

  • Morning Glassies!

I see a glassie I haven't seen in ages - hi, Toby! Sure did love looking at your photos of your gorgeous collection. So happy to see that you found us and have joined in.

Helen, what Carma said regarding payment options. I still include my mailing address in my invoice at ended auctions, but apparently eBay strips out those physical addresses. I received a message from a winner the other night who asked to pay by check and wondered where to send it. I wonder if it would be "kosher" to mention Facebook as a method of sending messages in our listings? Such as "if you have any questions, find our user id on Facebook and send me a Message!"

  • Gail - WOW! I think the driver may have a hearing problem as well - wouldn't you think they would have stopped at the first sound of contact instead of driving all the way in? OUCH! Hope everyone's okay.

  • LOL, @songbreeze - thanks for the nomination, but all I do is describe my item, I'm sure no writer or journalist. Wouldn't have a clue what to write in an article! But I do know some authors here, hint, not so subtle hint, lol.

Regarding that dumb Timeline format on Facebook - they introduced it 3-4 weeks ago, saying "try it now, in order to get used to it or wait until we switch it over, your choice". I chose to try it early so I could get used to it. It's really not that bad.
The place to post a new message, Gail, is always at the upper left of the page, underneath the page owner's name and info. In that little box that says "What's on your mind?" You'll get the hang of it. πŸ™‚

  • Morning glassies!

@songbreeze - Gail, it's drizzling here, has been raining all night and now there's a bit of snow mixed in. But supposed to be in the '50s today, so it won't stick anywhere. Hope you all need rain, lol, it's headed your way.
