Jesse jrmroc If the total height of your item is 6', then one must deduct the height of the stem from the bowl to determine if it is a spooner or a celery. The bowl of a spooner is usually 4-41/2 inches deep and that of a celery is usually 5-6 inches deep. An easy way to find out is take several of your own teaspoons and put them in it with the bowl part of the spoon down inside. If approx. 2" of the spoon handle rise above the rim, it is a spooner.. Spoons were kept on the table in these holders and having the handle appear above the rim would make it easy to get a spoon out of the holder. If you cannot get a spoon out without having to dig around down inside of the holder, then it would be a celery vase. Celery could be cut in proper lengths so that there would be plenty of length to allow one to pick up a piece of celery. So, measure the depth of the bowl of your item and you will be able to tell what it is. Also , most spooners were at least 3 1/2 inches - 4 1/2 inches in top width.
