• Katie @fyrqueen My first thought was anchor Hocking's Ruby Red but then realised the base is a bit different. So I was then thinking made in Japan and imported by Lefton. I did a bit of a look around on Google and see the same being advertised as Empoli but as you know not everything on Google is correct. Anyway its a couple of ideas for you to look into

  • Lots & lots of rain in NJ! So far not a lot of wind although there is still a wind advisory and a flood watch. I was going to a glass show/sale this afternoon but think I'll just stay home warm and dry (the road I'd need to take has a tendency to flood.)

@carma/Carl, I went from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my laptop a while a go. The real shock was going from Windows 7 to Windows 11 on my PC -- I really hate Windows 11, everything is an app not software. I'm holding out as long as I can to keep my laptop. So sad that you'll miss seeing the girls again.

Yikes, @fyrqueen/Katie, I hope your son will be okay. My poor brother & SIL (who both have medical issues) just got Covid -- their first time. They've been very careful and are current on all of their boosters. Glad you were "rescued" quickly when your poor Subaru broke down.

@wattleihavenext/Julie, it's pretty amazing the friendships we've all made through our glass. I'll be going to the EAPG annual convention in May and will get to see Roger and Karen, two long-time glassies.

  • @emische Liz -- welcome to the group! Yes, you use the same sign-in for all the boards. On the right side you'll see links to the other boards. We're happy to try to help with id's.

@fyrqueen Katie -- nice & sunny (but chilly) here in NJ too. Most of the snow has melted.

  • @carma Carl, wow, what a mess! And how sad that it is right before Christmas. Glad that you're okay and have power.

@fyrqueen Katie, I hope your nephew and his family are okay.

There is still some river flooding in areas around us (northeastern NJ) and I heard there were some schools closed today and some delayed openings but we're okay, just a few small branches and twigs down. Not sure if it would have been better or worse if it was snow.

  • Good Morning. Our weather has been brutal and I am not liking it. High 30 Celsius and over 40C days , day after day. Hot hot westly winds to make it feel like a fan forced oven. Bush fires with people loosing homes and lives have already commenced. I have taken the plunge and I have ordered an aircon, hoping it is here vey soon. My fans are just circulating hot air.
Katie @fyrqueen I am sorry to hear about your friends but happy to hear that Mike is doing well. And ditto to what Nancy @jerseystar27 said.... Remember that self-care is not a luxury, it's a necessity!!
Carl @carma right at this moment (35 celsius at 10 a.m) that snow is sounding so good to me.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, after napping all morning, by early afternoon I was able to get out of bed and have something to eat. Like I said, this was much milder then the few other times I had vertigo. It's also the first time I had vertigo after getting excess ear wax removed.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, on the advice of my primary care doctor, I went to an ENT a few weeks ago to have excess ear wax removed. It was quick & pain free. But the next morning I woke up with vertigo. I've had vertigo a few times in the past & it pretty much knocked me out for a day. This time it was pretty mild -- I was much better by mid-afternoon. But I'm pretty sure the cause was pulling the wax out and causing something to change in my inner ear.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, it's good to see you! Sounds like some good things keeping you busy. So sorry to hear about your friends. And really happy to hear that Mike is doing well. Remember that self-care is not a luxury, it's a necessity!!

  • Katie @fyrqueen my first trek in Nepal was to 3,210metres. I really didn't have much issues with that at all. The last one I did, just as COVID was starting, was to 4773metres. Climbing the last section from Kyanjin Gompa (3870 metres) to Kyanjin Ri (4773m metres) was hard going. I had to stop and rest for a minute or 2 to catch my breath and suck in as much oxygen as I could .It was slow and steady. Not to mention the narrow steep dirt track we were walking on. But it was so worth the view on top of the world, looking out over all the Himalayas, it was beyond spectacular.

  • @dorbitz JimL -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I hope you have a great day!

@fyrqueen Katie, what fun having more jade plants. Yes, I'm forever having to go pick up my Mike's meds -- but no croissants, he's diabetic so I try to minimize the carbs.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, part of the travel was making up for what hasn't happened the last few summers. The Israel trip was sponsored by my daughter's synagogue. Rochester was to visit my brother & SIL and their daughter & SIL and their two boys (we hadn't met the youngest one yet). Virginia was to be with my daughter and help with the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride/Weekend of Honor (I did not ride a bike, I was support). Pittsburgh was the Phoenix & Consolidated Glass Collectors Convention. And finally San Francisco was a cousin's wedding (this is becoming a habit -- last year we were in San Diego in August for a nephew's wedding). Sorry to hear about the reschedule for selling the books and for the "loss" of the chicken.

  • Thank you all for the birthday wishes.
I had a lovely day. First I went to the School to see my Grand daughter receive two awards. Htis is her first year in High School so I am a very proud Grandma. My daughter cooked me a lovely dinner and my grand daughter made the dessert. Plenty of cuddles from my Grandson and after dinner he had me doing burpees and attempting to do box jumps and push ups with a clap. Push ups I can do, but with a clap....well ... Lets just say I need some work on those and also on the box jumps at the height he was wanting me to attempt 😆 I enjoyed a couple of glasses of Mumm Champagne too, it's one of my favourites. I'll be going out over the weekend with some friends to celebrate. Not sure yet where we will go.
Shelly @shellyrae37 what do you mean "the years seem to roll past fast after you hit 29" I am only 28 😆 😆 😆
@fyrqueen Katie I will be in good hands in India and will be well looked after.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, that sounds like a perfect birthday celebration. Wishing him many more!! (And you to!!)

  • Katie @fyrqueen I am glad Mike had a wonderful birthday

  • Katie @fyrqueen If you want to see more of what my trip will be like Google Chang La Pass too

  • Katie @fyrqueen It will be a combination of motorbikes and jeeps. When it becomes too uncomfortable to be on the back of the motorbike, we have a back up Jeep to travel in to rest our butts, back, hips and thighs 😆 Some of the roads we will be travelling on will not be in good condition.
Here is a You Tube video of part of what I will be travelling on

  • Carl @carma Yes it's a bit of a "Ghost Town" most days here. It's been almost a week between posts.
WTG on your weight loss. I bet you feel so much better. It truly is amazing how much weight can be dropped by eliminating just a few items, eating healthy portioned control servings and without starving yourself either. I rarely eat bread now and mainly stick to just the good carbs.
Katie @fyrqueen I hope you are feeling better asap

I am on the countdown now, for my trip to India and I am starting to get really excited . Just 6 weeks to go. I am doing the Ladakh Jeep/Motorbike Road trip.
I will fly into Delhi, have a night there and then catch a Bus to Manali where the adventure of a life time commences to travel on the Worlds highest motorable roads on motorbikes and in jeeps Some of our accommodation up in the Himalayas will be in campsites .So it goes from Manali >Jispa > Padum via Shango La Pass >Kargil > Leh >Nubra Valley >Pangong Lake > back to Leh via the Chang La Pass (5,360metres or 17,585.3 feet ) for the Takthok Tsechu Festival >Fly to Delhi, catch a train to Agra>visit Taj Mahal > bus to Jaipur >back to Dehli> On Day 19 I will fly to Nepal and spend a week there catching up with Nepali family/friends and then home via Singapore

  • @fyrqueen Katie, glad things worked out for you BIL. It is amazing how much trouble a UTI can cause, particularly for seniors. And so glad that your Mike responded well to meds & therapy.

Cloudy, breezy, & cool right now but more rain later in the day and there's a flood watch for the area from noon until midnight. I really wish the weather would spread itself out and not happen all at once. We go for a week or two with almost no rain and then wham -- we get flooded.

  • Good Morning, dark, gloomy and raining here and thunderstorms predicted. Hopefully that will ease the humidity.

Shelly @shellyrae37 I had a lovely few days away camping by the river. It was hot but I had a nice shady tree to sit under and a river to swim in to cool down. The camp ground was very well kept by the managers, truly a beautiful spot and they don't pack everyone in on top of each other. We had lots of room and were well away from everyone. And the beauty of it , it was only 30 minutes drive from home. We thought there was a total fire ban so we didn't take any wood for a camp fire.
Katie @fyrqueen glad you and Mike are over covid
Marson @panishklo enjoy your exercise time. I did my gym workout this morning at 6 a.m
Nancy @jerseystar27 Looks like we may be getting our summer back at the end of the week. Crazy weather
Carl @carma I hope by now you are all dug out and no more snow for you

  • Katie @fyrqueen its hard to reason with a robot.

  • Katie @fyrqueen Glad you are feeling well. My comment non my Aunty's post is not banned . FB hides it, with a warning to others that it may contain violence and if anyone wants to read my post they need to click on "unhide"

  • Good Morning. It's the 2nd calendar day of Autumn here. The days are still humid but they are bearable, though it does make it uncomfortable & very sweaty at the gym. Our early mornings and evenings have that tiny little hint, that summer is almost behind us, you can feel more coolness on the air. It really wasn't a bad summer, compared to some of the ones we have had to really suffer through. I don't think our temps went over 35 Celsius and most days they were under 30C. Not bad for an Aussie summer in my parts.

Facebook Bots are getting sillier. 1st of every month my Aunty posts the usual "Pinch and a Punch, first day of the month" and I always reply the usual " hit and a kick for being so quick" My comments get hidden now because of violence content. No wonder people are always getting put in FB gaol LOL

Katie @fyrqueen I am glad you and Mike are over the worst of covid. Rest up and still take it easy through the fatigued stage until you feel more energised again.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, how are you and Mike feeling? I hope things are going well.

Well, we had our first "real" snowfall of the winter. Maybe 3 inches. Roads seem to be clear (we're on a true side street and it's been plowed already). Glad it wasn't more than that as it's a very wet, heavy snow. Still faintly snowing/raining. Supposed to be in upper 30s by afternoon, so should be mostly gone. And by Thursday it will be in the 50s and raining. And then maybe another storm on Friday. Yay, winter!

  • @fyrqueen Katie Sorry to read you have covid. But good to read that you are getting over it OK. Do take care of yourself and take things easy for awhile. I have friends that have just come back from a cruise with covid. He caught it but his wife didn't and another from a holiday to Japan with it too. Nat caught it but her husband and daughter didn't.

It's been bucketing down rain here for 2 days. Sun is shining at the moment but they say more heavy rain is on its way. Temps are OK but the humidity is not nice. It's OK doing very little but exert yourself and that's when you feel it. Not looking forward to the gym this afternoon. It is going to be extremely sweaty and that will just be doing the warm ups. But I will add some electrolyte tablets to my water, that does help a lot.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, I didn't take Paxlovid and it was fine. I had what was basically a bad cold. It did take almost a week for the fever to be completely gone and about 1-1/2 weeks until I tested negative. The cough, however, did linger for several weeks.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, I'm so sorry to hear you have Covid. I hope you get through it quickly and easily. {{hugs}} And if you do take Paxlovid, be very careful. You do get over the Covid quickly -- but there is always the possibility of rebound, which is what happened to my husband (and that's when I caught it).

  • Shelly @shellyrae37 nothing wrong with celebrating your birthday again 😆 😆 😆 A good excuse for more cake 😆 😆

Katie @fyrqueen I hope all goes well at the Drs for Mike

It's a warm sunny day here, with clear blue skies. It's Hot but not unbearably hot (26Celsius = 80 F)

  • @fyrqueen Katie, glad things are going okay,

Drove from NJ to Virginia today -- rain started partway through NJ. At least there was no wind. We're down to celebrate the last few days of Chanukah with our daughter plus various members of DH's family who live down here. Plus on Sunday we'll get to enjoy Christmas dinner with one of our daughter's closest friends and her mom. I hope everyone is staying safe and warm!!

  • @fyrqueen Oh, Katie, how awfulabout the tick! I have heard of this.

I'll probably getting the booster in November or December. They say to wait at least 4 months or more after you've had Covid to get the booster. There are enough antibodies from having had it that the booster won't really do anything.

Still rainy & chilly, My sister decided they're only going to sell their handcrafted jewelry at the show and only use 2 tables so that she & her friend and the tables will fit under the tent. So I don't have to go -- Yay! I don't think they'll get many buyers, but who knows. Now I can go to my Yoga class at noon and get stuff done around the house.

  • Good afternoon. Windy here and we have had no rain for a few days but weather reports say that will be short lived. I am still waiting on the roofer to get back here to have another look and to fix my still leaking roof. Hopefully 3rd time a charm

Nancy@jerseystar27 Yes I remember Jim aka Moose. Happy Heavenly Birthday to him. We have lost quite a few Glassies over the years 🙁 😥 This morning I was looking at some cards Marypat had made for me and sent to me and the Fenton basket Betty had sent me when DH was so ill and I was thinking of all the Glassies, no longer with us. Some I had never met in person but we had a bond, a genuine friendship.
Jim @dorbitz good to see that you will be getting a much deserved break. Enjoy
Katie @fyrqueen congrats to your son on his promotion
Carl @carma your garden sounds amazing.

  • Good afternoon. Sun has come out, but for how long is the million dollar question. So much rain in such a short period, flash flooding everywhere..AGAIN. It seems like there will be no end to this crazy weather. Things just start drying out and those impacted extremely bad and having to evacuate, start to see a glimmer of hope that will be able to move back in and WHAM!! Mother Natures says "Nope, nope nope" Our famers just start getting their farms dry and ready to plant or harvest and again Mother Nature says "I've got news for you. It ain't going to happen" My house has sprung leaks . My 96 year old ornate plaster ceiling in the lounge room , now has a couple of holes where the roof has decided to leak. The amount of water coming down my chimney was also unbelievable!!

Katie @fyrqueen yep it is getting ridiculous on FB . In some of the groups I am in, you should read the foul language some of the blokes use and nothing is done. Those bots need a lot of re-tweeking and they need to know Aussie slang and the Queens English too. Too many I know have been put in time out for totally innocent comments. One I know was gaoled for the word "cracker" We use to have "Cracker night" for the Queens Birthday. You call it Fireworks. And typically Australian "What a cracker idea" (What a great idea) and "Have a cracker day" (Have a good day). Another had her sale pulled because they said she can't sell currency. It was vintage buttons she was selling and no mention of currency/money or any other word to hint at it being currency. It was listed as "Vintage Buttons" It's just getting beyond ridiculous.

  • Katie @fyrqueen and it is very cold here with a few Frosty mornings. But at least the horrible wind has gone , for now anyway

  • Katie @fyrqueen I am not 100% sure but check into WOM (Willow, Oleander, Magnolia) by Indiana

  • No change in our weather. Still very windy and cold.. It's a Long Weekend starting tomorrow and I am planning on going away bush camping in my van. It is going to be very cold but hopefully the wind will be gone by then so I can enjoy a nice warm campfire. I do love winter camping but not windy winter camping LOL I have had this place on my list for a little while. It's reasonable new and not very far away. All my camping friends have made other plans, some are off away, right up North of Aus, soaking up the heat, so I will be going on my own. I am looking forward to seeing if this spot is as good as the photos.

    Katie @fyrqueen (((((HUGS)))))

  • @fyrqueen Katie, I'm so sorry to hear that Little Boss is gone! Our furkids are so much a part of our families, I'm sure you miss him terribly. {{hugs}}

  • Good morning..it is still wet wet wet down here.
I had a fabulous week away with BlazeAid and we managed to finish all the fences for one farmer. An elderly lady doing it tough on her own, because her husband is not able to help much any more.I loved every minute of the hard work. Well worth it, to see the huge change in Dell and Bruce's emotions from the day we started to day we finished. They looked lost and despaired when we arrived and by the last day , so full of joy and hope. We were extremely lucky that the rain held off for us. The paddocks we had to travel through were already soaked and very boggy, making our drive in "very interesting" even in 4wheel drives. We had to be pulled out by Dell in her tractor, once. On our last day, it started bucketing down on our drive home to our camp and it never stopped. I was thinking about staying on for another week but it really would have been pointless because of all the rain, we couldn't get to the properties anyway to get any work done. It poured rain the whole trip home and just got heavier the closer to home I got. My original plans for a week of travelling around and camping , relaxing, soon looked dismal. But surprise surprise!! Monday late morning the sun actually shone and there was some blue sky, so I quickly jumped in my van and headed off to a lovely little town that has a nice camping area along a creek. Had 3 days there with not much rain. I just enjoyed my own company and view. Everything and everywhere is still so very wet and boggy and the sky is looking very dark and gloomy with more rain the come. I think I am growing web feet LOL

    KATIE @fyrqueen

  • @fyrqueen Katie, sounds like the best kind of birthday celebration!

@dorbitz JimL, so, you survived tax season? Good to see you hear.

We just had a line of severe thunderstorms pass through. The good news is they weren't very severe -- heavy rain for a little bit and some lightening & thunder but no strong winds or hail. And the best news is that the temperature has dropped at least 15 degrees.

  • The morning turned out to be such a beautiful warm sunny morning. BUT Grandson's soccer club decided yesterday to cancel this mornings soccer games. These days they put a lot of work in the maintenance of the grounds so even though the weather was good this morning, the grounds were a bit boggy and they don't like the damage that gets done. The kids miss out on all the fun of rolling around, slipping and sliding in all the mud LOL

Katie @fyrqueen I play Wordle too and I also play Quordle.

  • Katie @fyrqueen very pretty.

We are into Autumn and what a wet boggy one it is. A lot of the areas hit by torrential rain and destructive floods a couple of weeks ago, have been hit again. As if it wasn't bad enough loosing everything, to then to have whatever little you have managed salvage and what ever mess you have managed to clean up, hit again with torrential rain and floods. So very sad to see. The only good from this, is seeing so many band together helping each other. It does give one hope, to see so many selfless people helping in any way they can.

  • Katie @fyrqueen very nice and they brighten up the glass chat room, thanks for sharing

  • Katie @fyrqueen please post a pic pf your pitcher . I would love to see it

  • Sunshine at last!!
    Katie @fyrqueen
OMG the images of the destruction and the whole mess that needs to be clean up is unimaginable. If you are interested Google Lismore NSW Floods. That is one of the towns worst hit. But the destruction is far and wide, from the state of Queensland right down past Sydney NSW.

  • Katie @fyrqueen that is sad news about Ginger 🙁

  • @fyrqueen Katie, glad that Boss made it home okay. Looking forward to hearing about the new baby.

  • Good Morning.
With the weather we have been having it is really hard to believe it is Summer , Down Under. It's very wet and only 16 Celsius atm with a top of 24C predicted.
Nancy @jerseystar27 and Katie @fyrqueen we have 3 wheelie Bins and I love it. One is for general household waste that goes to land fill. Another for recyclable items and another for garden waste that gets turned into compost.
Shelly @shellyrae37 how are you after your fall? I hope you were not too stiff and sore.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, that is so weird. Several years ago our town went to automatic garbage trucks and supplied every household with a wheeled garbage can and a wheeled recycling can (we have co-mingled recycling). Initially I was skeptical but now I love it. They are large, heavy cans -- at least so far impervious to raccoons and squirrels -- and so easy to wheel around.

  • @fyrqueen Yikes, Katie, take care!! We seem to be on the edge of the storm when it gets to the East coast. I'm hoping we stay on the relatively warm side and only get some mixed precipitation and not the ice.

  • Katie @fyrqueen I have a cappuccino every morning which has a sprinkle of chocolate on top. It's my little treat after the gym at a favourite café.

We are having a different summer this year to some of our previous one. This has been our coolest so far in 10 years. And probably one of our wettest for a long time. Some of my FB memories are showing where I was complaining, some previous years , about the excessive heat. One day I had said it was 46Celsius. I still have the doona on my bed and
so far the nights are so good for sleeping....My kind of summer 😆

  • Good morning, still raining here.

Katie @fyrqueen did FB give you any indication of how long they have put you in the naughty corner? Doesn't it show the time in the pop up ? I was sent a warning and told how long.

  • Good morning. very wet here and boy o boy did we have some very heavy downfalls yesterday afternoon.

Katie @fyrqueen Yes I have heard from some of my collector friends about the difficulty they have had with selling animal ornaments. FB bot only see it as real animals and they could not reason with them. I also reported my mishap to FB. I wasn't going to because I was on a 24hour ban and I knew I would be out of gaol long before they even acknowledged my report. But then I decided that if it is not reported and they were not educated on the meaning of gobblygook, the problem would just continue for so many. It may help in the future and of course the chances are it may not .Who knows when dealing with non humans lol

  • Katie @fyrqueen Yes I can read messages but can't make any comments. I am glad to be in such good company 😆 I couldn't have asked for a better cell mate 😆 We aren't the only ones either, I read another friend has been gaoled too for nothing. But the Bots said they went against the FB community standards LOL Amazing!!! everyone can use the F word and I have even seen ppl using that horrid C word and they are not deemed as offensive or going against FB community standards. But use gobbleygook and you're gone CRAZY!!!

  • Good morning. Last few days have been perfect. Spring is such a beautiful time of year. I've been busy outside in the yard and garden. Pruning, mowing, whipper snipping, shovelling compost, planting and rearranging some plants and pots. My front verandah needs a face lift and some brightening up so I have added some plants and I will also move some big pots onto the verandah once it starts to heat up too much. I have ordered some outdoor cushions to jazz up the antique church pew .I've planted lavender in a nice big old watering can, some geraniums in an antique enamel bucket and bougainvillea in an antique enamelled cast iron cooking pot. My house was built in the 1920's so I like to keep with the antique/vintage theme as much as I can.

Katie @fyrqueen In my State we have 93.6% of people aged 16+ who have had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 87.7% have had two doses.

  • Katie @fyrqueen oh we have our fair share of the conspiracy believers and 'freedom fighters" but there are big fines if you are caught disregarding the rules. But as a whole we are doing really well and most are following the rules. We would have been doing much better if it wasn't for a very small amount of ppl from Sydney ( 3-4 ppl) that broke the lockdown isolation rules and travelled from Sydney to my area, when they were covid positive (Delta variant) No one was to leave Sydney as it was a hot spot, our government tried to keep it there. But there are idiots who will not do as they are required.

  • @dorbitz Good to see you, JimL! Chilly morning in NJ -- I actually turned the heat on in the house last night (still set it low). And I when I left the house at 8:30AM this morning, I put the heat on in the car. Although I find the online government stuff confusing and had heard how difficult filing for SS was, when I finally did it, it went fine. I filed online and then received a phone call from a very nice woman who walked me through several decision making steps and then the direct deposits started.

@fyrqueen Katie, I noticed a little more color this morning when I was out. And it definitely felt like Autumn this morning.

  • Katie @fyrqueen This site has been "Not Secure" for a long time. So long I actually forget when I had first discovered it. It means this site is not providing an encrypted connection.

  • Yes it is hard to imagine it has been 12 months since George's passing. I do hope his wife and family are doing well

Nancy @jerseystar I was very lucky and had no reaction or side effects from either of my jabs.
@fyrqueen Katie yeah we have a few deniers down here too. They watch too much fake news and pretend experts on You Tube. My cousin's wife is one of them..there is no reasoning with them.

  • @wattleihavenext Julie, wow, it's been a whole year. Time has been so strange this past 1-1/2 years.

@fyrqueen Katie, feeling much better today, so I guess the booster shot does boost the antibodies but they may have already been up there, so it wasn't nearly as bad as the second shot.

  • Katie @fyrqueen if you Google "jadeite hen egg holder" you will see examples and the ones I looked at are saying they are new

  • Good morning. It's starting to feel a lot like Spring here. I love this time of year where there is still a bit of winter in the mornings and evenings and sunny Spring weather during the day

Jim @dorbitz as they say "it's a small world"

Katie @fyrqueen I do know that the jadeite Hens on Nest have been reproduced but I am not sure how to tell the difference.I think there is an actual webiste for all the repro Jadeite and I am sure Fran (dbfrogs_Fran @fran) would know. Do you have her as a friend on Facebook?

  • @fyrqueen Katie, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope you have a wonderful day.

  • Katie @fyrqueen some collectors groups that allow selling, allow you to run your own auction. It's certainly not set up like any online auctions like eBay. You do all the work yourself. I find the hardest part is monitoring the finish time and closing the auction dead smack bang right on the time I have allocated. Had one that ended in a dispute because I was 30 seconds late posting AUCTION CLOSED and someone had managed to get a bid in during that time. I thought they were the highest bidder but according to the rules of the group and the Moderators of the Group they weren't. I was lucky that bidder was understanding. But I have seen others that get very nasty and the drama carries on for days by both seller and bidders.
    Julie

  • @fyrqueen Katie, Oh my goodness!! Crazy weather. It's in the low 70s here in NJ today but t'storms tomorrow and the overnight temps will dip into the 30s. This is why my long-time rule has been no delicate plants outside until Mother's Day. Which is not to say I'm good about not buying them -- I have two Thai Basil plants on the kitchen window sill and I just went to Lowe's today and now have three regular basil and a Shishito pepper plant that will come inside tonight.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, I hope you're feeling better today. Usually takes a couple of days.

@carma Carl, glad the shots went well. Sounds like you got the Moderna vaccine if it will be 4 weeks until the second shot.

I go for my second shot a week from tomorrow (Pfizer vaccine is 3 weeks between doses). My daughter, the critical care paramedic, got her shots last month. She got the Moderna vaccine -- first shot she had a sore arm and took Advil. Second shot she had a temperature over 101 the first day and spent the day sleeping. By the second day it was down to 99.5 and third day everything was back to normal. I've heard the reaction to the Pfizer vaccine isn't as bad -- guess I'll find out next week.

  • Hi everyone. It's still raining here with intermittent sunshine. OMG the grass is growing so quickly and its too wet to mow.
I have had a lovely morning out with my Grandkids, I am so lucky to be living so close. 5-10 minutes drive away

Nancy @jerseystar27 We had lots of fun last night at 10 Pin Bowling. Plenty of laughs, many gutter balls but also a good share of strikes that we all fluked 😆 I chose one ball at first but my thumb got stick when I bowled , making for a very funny moment with me almost going with it and of course a gutter ball 😆 l I love doing activities with these ladies, they are full of life and fun. And age is no barrier, the group is a mix of young, old and in between. It's all about staying active, enjoying life, stepping outside your comfort zone and having a go at just about anything , with no judgement, only lots of encouragement.

Katie @fyrqueen I hope you feel better soon

  • I think the snow showers may finally be done. We did get about 5 inches yesterday then some freezing rain, then some more snow overnight. And then periodic snow showers throughout the day.

@fyrqueen Katie -- sounds like a fun place to get your shots. Our first dose (as well as second which will a week from this coming Monday) were at a local community center.

@wattleihavenext Julie -- I was never very keen on bowling. We went when I was a youngster (it was a school program) and I had trouble picking up a bowling ball, so I never really got into it.

  • Good Morning. I wished daylight savings would end. It's still dark now when I get up to go to training, making it very hard to wake up when the alarm goes off. In it's wisdom, our stupid Government has decided to extend it to April 🙁
We have been getting plenty of rain this week and predictions are it will continue on into the weekend. I have my fingers crossed it will clear up by then. My bootcamp group have planned a walk around our beaches and a picnic afterwards. We have not had much luck this summer with our planned outdoor activities. Most have had to be cancelled because of rain or storms.
I think I have settled on early April as the date for when I will go back volunteering with BlazeAide ( helping farmers who have been badly affected by last years bushfires and some from floods, to rebuild their fences etc.) I'll leave here on Easter Monday and will commit for a week of hard labour with them. I may decide to stay on longer. That will just depend on how things are going and if they need me for longer.
Jim @dorbitz the break didn't hurt so it was well worth that helicopter ride 😆
Katie @fyrqueen I hope you are staying warm

  • @fyrqueen Katie, this wasn't from the US government Medicare, this was from Aetna, their supplemental Medicare division. I'm assuming this was because it's now open season to switch supplemental providers. As I said, I don't have that option as I've got spouse coverage under my husband's retirement plan (for a not to horrendous fee). It is good to be a retired NY State teacher. And there was also a chapstick.

  • Katie @fyrqueen for as long as I can remember this site has always been "not secure"

  • @fyrqueen Katie if nothing works and you
only want to display, not use the castor set, you can pour in a little bit of oil and swirl it around. It doesn't fix the problem but it does camoflauge it.

  • @fyrqueen Katie, oh my! I should go dig in the basement -- I know my son had a RC Radio Shack car as I bought it for him (probably late 1980s). And by diecast cars, does that include Matchbox cars? We have lots of them. There was a Lesney warehouse/office near us that periodically had special sales. We bought all sorts of Matchbox cars, storage cases, etc. Also Ginny dolls and clothes.

  • Still cold, windy(it'd blow a dog off its chain) and miserable down here. It's just horrid weather and not pleasant being outdoors at all.
Katie @fyrqueen silver marked 800 means its either Italian or German
George @george I hope the sale goes well (((hugs))))

  • @fyrqueen Katie, it's not really that bad. Our son lives with us in NJ. We do get out of the house to walk and DH is now allowed to drive and kayak, so he gets out several days a week to kayak. But we haven't seen our daughter in 3 months -- we were with her for a weekend in March and by the end of that week that had shut down NJ. She wanted to come up 2 weeks ago when it was our 50th anniversary but we decided to wait and see if things were more open this weekend, which they are.

  • Katie @fyrqueen We are doing really well down here and our restrictions are easing, with more businesses allowed to operate and an increase in the amount of patrons per dining premises As of 1st June we go into Stage 2 of the relaxed restrictions But it's just a few days too late for Aunty's Funeral.

  • Good Morning It started out a clear sunny but chilly morning. I had almost finished my walk and it came over cloudy and it began to drizzle rain so I did get a little bit damp on the last leg of my walk
Nancy @jerseystar27 YUM!!! my favourite meat is lamb. Aussie lamb is the best!! I think I may have to lash out on my next grocery shop and buy some. I might get a leg and bake. Now with our isolation restrictions lifted a little I can have DD SIL and grandchildren over for dinner and I think I will do the traditional lamb baked dinner with baked potatoes , baked pumpkin and steamed green vegs. I am making myself very hungry thinking about it 😆
Katie @fyrqueen our stimulus payment goes straight into our bank accts so no need for any of us to go into the bank. Some of our banks here will be temporarily closing some of their doors till this is over.

  • Rainy in NJ and it will get windy. There's supposed to be a break in an hour or two before the really heavy rains and wind show up (we're under a flood watch tonight into tomorrow morning). Hopefully that happens so I can get in a walk and refill the bird feeders.

@fyrqueen Katie, I've taken DH (who is also Mike) to two doctor visits this past month. First was his cardiologist (where they took blood). Empty waiting room and everyone wearing masks. Second was his podiatrist, which I was all for putting off, only because DH is diabetic, this was a nail clipping visit (couldn't be done via video). But the middle of May is follow-up with the electrophysiologist (now that DH has a pacemaker/defibrillator). His office is in the hospital. We just got a call from his nurse -- visit will be via Zoom. They will call two days ahead of time to make sure we're all set up.

  • Good Morning. A beautiful rainy morning, perfect for a Saturday morning sleep in.

Carl @carma our petrol prices have dropped too. But I can't take advantage of it yet till I am out of isolation. Knowing my luck when I go to fill up the cars on Monday it will have gone back up.

Katie @fyrqueen we are lucky too, to have some of our local farmers doing home deliveries. Some have also set up Non contact services too. The Fresh produced boxed and customer purchases online or over phone and pick it up through a drive through process And all hygiene protocol adhered to. A lot of local businesses here have made the adaption to home deliveries, Some of the pubs that had to close their doors were selling their Kegs to the public too. These times are certainly making the business owners think outside the square. The ones that have not gone with the times and have refused to keep up with technology I would think would be suffering right now

Jim @dorbitz If you decide to wear gloves you will be required to change them for every new customer you deal with. IMHO Good hand sanitizer, recommended by the Health Department would probably be better.
BTW I emailed my bank and they are still opened for customers that require personal attention. So that's good I can organise that part of my finances when I am out of isolation.

  • Good Morning I am sighing a big ish of relief. aaarrrrr it is so much cooler today. I am not sure I could have survived another day. Yesterday the humidity was disgusting. I only had to blink and the sweat wold pour off me.
A friend of mine who is a volunteer firefighter has been deployed again and has headed south to fight more fires. she is only only young and a newly wed. I do hope she stays safe.

Katie @fyrqueen very pretty but sorry I can not help.
Jim @dorbitz Crown Crystal copied a lot of other company's patterns. Two more (off the top of my head) to add to the list was Bagley's and August Walther . They didn't do a complete line of the items, just one or two things.I discovered a few days ago that a vase I once had and always thought was Bagley turns out to be Crown Crystal.

  • Good Morning and it is a much better morning I survived yesterday but it has really drained me of energy.A combination of the heat and of just sitting around doing nothing. Looks like we received some rain last night, not heavy rain but just misty drizzling rain which I couldn't hear on the roof. Temps have dropped, we are now down to 24C(7a.m), but it is still "sticky"
Bushfires are still raging in some areas of NSW and more homes were lost over the weekend.I read an article that the USA firefighters that came here to help said they have never seen anything like it in their firefighting lives. They fought the fires in California too. I keep asking myself "when is this ever going to end?"
Katie @fyrqueen our roads melt a bit down here. I remember as a child my best friend on I would dig out the lumps of ore in the asphalt. LOL Now I am thinking about that I have no idea why we did it LOL
Carl@carma so sad that the township is dying 🙁 Tourism has taken a huge dive down here too because of the fires and drought. so many towns that relied on tourism are struggling. There is a campaign down here now "Go support a little country town hit by droughts and fires" There is even a FB page "Buy from the BUsh" now set up that you can buy online from them. Homemade, handmade or from the little local dress shop instead of the big shopping centre companies in the Cities etc. I know quite a few friends buying gifts and items that way now. A company has also set up bus tours for shopping to struggling towns (weekend away trips) to help input some $$ into the struggling towns.
Jim @dorbitz I am struggling with this heat now. Now it is a humid heat and it has to be the worst kind. Before Xmas there was no humidity , and though it was hot and temps were way up there over the 40C, I coped much better. The weekend away I had to Currabubula (out west and very hot) It didn't feel near as bad as here. It was actually quite bearable
George @george yep give me cold over hot anyday. I just keep looking at photos of my next trek to Nepal. all those mountains with snow on them, look sooooooo good.

  • Good Morning It is so hot and humid here at 30 Celsius and it is only 7.30a.m I had next to no sleep last night.Storms and rain are predicted for today and over the weekend.
I am going to meet my new Grandpuppy today, Hamish is his name, a cavoodle and such a little cutie, from the pics I have seen

Carl @carma yep the grandkids loved it. Especially when the pilot tilted the helicopter over on its side so they could get a good look at the water.

Katie @fyrqueen lucky for us down here we do not have any diseases from ticks. As a child my Mum was always pulling ticks off us, after a day of running around in the bush. when we were on holidays at either the beach or my Grandfathers property. Though there have been a few isolated cases in recent years claiming ppl have contracted Lymes Disease. But I think those cases were traced back to when the person was actually overseas and not from a tick here in Aus.

  • Good Morning. prediction of hot and humid for today.
I have rescheduled the Grandkids helicopter flight for today. Looking forward to making more memories with them. I have missed them during these school holidays. I am usually the babysitter everyday but DD and DSIL have taken time off work so I am not needed.

Katie @fyrqueen I come from good stock, especially on my father's side LOL Most have lived a long and healthy active life.My 90 year old Uncle was still power walking 6 kilometres everyday before he was diagnosed with brain tumours. I have an Aunty who is turning 90 in a couple of weeks, she scoots around like a teenager. She's become very forgetful though but the body is doing great.

    Julie

  • Good Morning The humidity is starting to increase and I am still waiting and hoping for rain. Some areas have received some welcomed rain but of course it's just a drop in the ocean to what is needed.

Katie @fyrqueen The new collectors are wanting their Grandma's things now, stuff from the 1960-70's. Art Glass seems to be the in thing now. I am also noticing on some of the FB Groups some ppl are falling in love with Sooner Glass.OMG Could that be the next huge collectable? LOL

  • Good Morning It is not going to be a good day here. Temps to reach 45C or 113F.

Katie @fyrqueen yes we have help from US, Canada and New Zealand and FINALLY our Prime Minister has deployed Army to help.

  • Katie @fyrqueen After DH passed away 11 years ago ,I was going very well, travelling around to markets and swap meets. It was full on. Then one day (approx 2 years ago) when I was packing up from a market, I said "No more, I need a break" The plan was to have 12 months break and just sell online. But the break has made it hard for me to get back into the swing of things and I have lost my enthusiasm for buying, selling and collecting I still have so much stuff , all priced and packed onto tubs for the markets and swapmeets

  • Katie @fyrqueen they are lovely. Are you going to reuse them on something?

  • Good Morning. Another hot day ahead for us down under. 41C. Our skies have cleared from a lot of the smoke but No rain in sight for us here. Much, much further north is dealing with some floods.I think as a result of the cyclone in Fiji. It would be wonderful if it could make its way south and to the farming areas that really need it.
It was my granddaughters 9th birthday yesterday and today would have been my Father's

Jim @dorbitz glad to hear your gout has let up. And congratulations on your weight loss WTG YOU!! I've gained a few kilos 😆 a combination of the cruise and this time of year, eating and drinking too much. Come January 1st I'll be back to a healthier lifestyle and my usual routine. I need it gone before the Nepal Trek.

Katie @fyrqueen they are interesting items. Do they have holes where you can sew them on to a garment?

  • Katie @fyrqueen medical authorities have told us that masks are no good for these kind of conditions we are experiencing. And I could not tolerate having one one.
BTW what a lovely thing you are doing for the needy.

  • Well it is back to reality and the smoke filled air here. Bushfires all around are still a big issue and it feels like I am looking through orange tinted glasses. Eyes are starting to get scratchy again and I feel like I have a throat full of dust.
George @george I hope the move is going smoothly
Katie @fyrqueen Mystery Island was like a little paradise.I just relaxed there on the beach and swam in that DDG water. Some went snorkelling and the photos they took are amazing.
Jim @dorbitz my next trip is in March and I am going back to Nepal to do another trek but this time it will be to Langtang valley which is north of Kathmandu and an area I have not yet seen. I will be over there for the Holi Festival before the trek starts too. I had so much fun last year for that, I can't wait to do it again.
Carl @carma yes I did have a great time. It is a beautiful part of the world and that water is magic, so clear, so clean, so pretty and the people are beautiful. We were well looked after.

  • Good Morning, last night a storm came through, there was very little rain in it, just thunder and lightning, but a little rain is better than nothing . Air quality is still poor, still smokey and dusty. There just wasn't enough rain to clean it all away.
The grandkids will be having a sleepover with me this weekend. Looking forward to the cuddles and company. I wonder if Miss P will be cooking dinner again for me, like she did on her last sleep over. I couldn't believe what a great cook she is. She had all the ingredients and followed the recipe, to cook up a very yummy meal. She is so mature for an 8 year old.
Katie @fyrqueen I am so looking forward to being out on the ocean, breathing in nice clean fresh air, away from all this smoke and dust. I can't believe how long this poor air quality has gone on for. I think I am starting to feel like a smoker again. I am sure to be taking plenty of photos, as will the others I am going with. We won't have internet access so I won't be sharing any till I get back home.

  • Katie @fyrqueen yes a twisted mind, indeed

  • Good Morning everyone. I decided not to do the 6a.m bootcamp session this morning.I will be doing the 9.30a.m. Yesterday when I decided, I was feeling like a Monday sleep in would be nice. Habits are hard to change, I was awake and up early. So much for the sleep in lol
Katie @fyrqueen Jolly Swagman certainly does sound very Aussie

  • @fyrqueen Katie, how precious!! Glad you made it home okay.

Cloudy here in NJ but warmer -- and my basil is still alive! While we were away over the weekend (in Rochester, NY), I kept getting frost advisories for back home. I figured all the herbs still in my garden would be dead when I got back. But they're not -- will pick basil and make pesto to freeze.
