@carma Carma, I replaced my 5-year old Dell PC (with Windows XP) back in February with a new Dell PC with Windows 7 because I did not want Windows 8. There are actually things in 7 that I like better than with XP (still have Windows XP on my Acer netbook). Check out Dell -- I have a Vostro 270 (Vostros are the business line). Dell often has great deals. I have heard that Windows 8.1 will be coming out soon to try and solve some of its issues (like being made for a touch screen).

GOOD MORNING ALL, We got the lightening show and the rain last night. Much needed after the 90+* we have been having.. We do not as a rule hit that high around here, near the lake. We had a little fire last night and the neighbor came over, enjoyed the cool breezes before the storm.. Lots of Lighening over the lake so thinking Canada got some of it too.
HI @WJWEESE, Use to have an Aunt Louise we called Aunt Weese, or Weesie.. Welcome to the Glass board I hope you come often.. Hopefully you will get the help you need.. We like looking even if we cannot help.. We often learn something new, but often forget as well.. Some take notes, so we learn right along with you.. Please do feel free to share..
HI CARL, My computer turned out ok, hopefully yours will be too, Just needed to buy a new Surge Protector..
HI DON, JIMD, REEN, JULIE, GAIL, GEORGE, MARTY, IRENE, NANCYJEAN, and anyone else I might have missed.. Hope you have a great day..

JimD: Yes, I've heard that Windows 7 is about the closest thing to XP & I think that's what I'll go with on a new computer. I've just heard & read about too many glitches, problems & issues with Windows 8.
Doubt I would ever go the laptop route. Don't need what it offers, as I have no intention of carrying it around with me. When I do things on the computer I'm in my office where there are no other distractions. If I'm somewhere else, I'm focused on something else & don't want to be doing anything on the computer. IMHO, the efficiency of multi-tasking such as that is a myth. If you want something done right, focus on one thing at a time.

Carl:Computers are a lot like cars, personal choice. Most are compilations of parts with a different label on them. Probably more important to get the right chip and sufficient memory with a compatible hard drive I am running Win7 on three computers. Not nearly as much trouble and crashes that we used to experience on the original windows I also have XP left on one. I don't see much difference.. Also Andriod on a tablet which is lot like Win 8. My son has Had a lot of luck with Dell laptops if you want to go that routehowever a top of the line Dell is EXPENSIVE.

@wjweese It is my understanding that any glass that is ”sun purpling” dates no later 1915 or there abouts when the use of mangenese was ceased being used in the formula But of course there are always exceptions to these rules

Good Morning everyone. Swimming was a No Goer again this morning. King Tides and storms have battered our beaches something fierce. And there was no sign of there even being a pool under all that surf.
Don @donscns I am so glad to read your seller was one of the sensible ones that knew how to pack fragile glassware
Gail @songbreeze I am glad your seller was easy to deal with and refunded your money
Toby @abzoid sorry you didn't win the item you wanted at Clums
Nancyjean @nona Glad to hear you are all Ok
