• These are what the glasses look like. Anyone?

  • Happy Birthday, Diane! And for you glassies, I have a question.... friend has a number of these footed glasses (I've emailed her to find out how many - she told me yesterday she has no clue what they are and her hubby sent a few pix this morning. I suspect they may be AH Soreno (sp?) or similar....;pattern looks almost like some tall glasses my mom had here. Anyone know? She will want to sell them, but I will probably steer her toward a FB group - I have nearly dumped ebay in favor of specific fb groups for listing....I think it is very like ebay used to be before donahoe screwed it all up. I don't like FB for the chatty stuff, but special groups - yes!! I'm in a very low population state (actually the lowest, now) and so I can list things in a group covering a couple hundred square miles and meet someone somewhere in a parking lot and offload items, or pick up something I've bought. Working out well. We're selling some big automotive stuff for a couple of friends, but wx is so bad that's not doing well yet. Has anyone else found this to be a good way to either FIND or sell things? I was surprised when I stumbled into one of the groups and began looking at FB in a whole other light. Here's the pic (or it may appear just above this)....

  • Oh, that's right - - I actually visited there a couple years ago when I was researching some army hospital china I had. Thanks for the reminder! That little wine is really not worth all your concern, but I thank you all for the help. It's just one of those things that bugs me - inquiring minds want to know....And I may never know for sure. Healing thoughts to Reen and Mike. Hugs to the rest of youse guys. This is what happens when a book and pottery seller has to try to diversify.

  • Hi, Bill. The writing on the ribbon says Spectemur Agendo (I did decipher this a few months ago, but then got sidetracked and wasn't able to pin down whether this might have been part of the NY Ansonia Hotel). I remember the Ansonia from when I lived in NY – I knew someone who lived in there, but never actually went inside. What is the RWCN forum? Sorry, doesn’t ring a bell. I’ll go retrieve my translation if I can find it, and let you know what that stands for. Seems to me it was something like ”By our actions we will be judged” or something similar.

  • Thanks, Gabla. From what I can see here, it's pointing to Viking (8 pentagrams, no mark as I said in my first post where I posted the pix of a couple of them) - - Mold marks following the line in pattern. I guess then I'll list 8 and the other 4 would have to go separately at another time. Then I have 4 oddball ones, one of which would fit with the heavy ones, a couple are shorter, but I'll just stick those into the cupboard. Thanks for all your help, Gail and Shelly also.

Gabla, since you seem to be really knowledgable about fancy glass - would you offer an opinion on this little wine stem? I know it was made before the 1940s, bowl is cranberry colored (not flashed) and has ribs inside the bowl that can be felt. Engraved is The Ansonia (which I think pertains to the Ansonia in NY). Any clue as to whether it's worth listing? Here's a pic of it. It came from the Phila. area and was stored here in WY sometime in the 1930s with some other pretty good glass in a packing barrel. http://i42.tinypic.com/25kgzz6.jpg

  • Thanks Shelly - I was blown away when I found how many made that pattern! I had a couple of the greens in this house when we moved down here (Mom liked the green ones) so then I found a red (which I lilke) and have been picking them up whenever... First clue I had that there were different sizes was in a box lot a couple months ago - 3 red georgians (that I thought would go with my single here) - but then discovered differences in height. These, while I didn't pick each one up, although I felt the points , all looked to be the same while they were sitting on the table at the auction. Then they put them all into a plastic bin to bring them up to the front and I ended up with them. I repacked them and they've been in the car for over a week. I do hope someone has a Viking book (I don't) and no, they are NOT marked with stickers or any identifier. Maybe I won't be able to sell them at all, unless I can figure out how to present them. They are pretty and very "solid"; good deep color.

  • Hi. I have a question about some ruby Georgian tumblers I bought at an auction. There were 12, looking for all the world identical. Yesterday when I finally started setting them out for pix I found that 4 of them were noticeably heavier than the others, and maybe 1/8" taller (hard to see, but the weight difference was really apparent). I had assumed they were Anchor Hocking, but to my surprise found that Viking made some, as did Fenton (but only into the 40's) and Cambridge that all had the honeycomb looking pattern. Who knew? Not me, that's for sure. I think these are Viking (at least most are, at just about 4" or a tiny bit more). Have any of you handled any of these or have any info? I can't find much concrete evidence about this difference in weight. Here's the pattern. All I wanted to do was list these, now I'm embroiled in trying to figure out if they're by two different makers or two different batches, or what? There is a one ounce differential in weight. 8 of them weight 8 oz each, while the heavy ones are 9 oz (this on a package scale, maybe not accurate to the gram, but close). What would the glassies do, faced with these? I'm inclined now to just list 8 as Viking, maybe, and I dunno what with the 4.

  • Thank you, Gail. I knew Replacements would probably be el cheapo, but wanted to see what they said. I'll take your advice and try pairs of stems. Many thanks!!

  • Well, hell. I mentioned that I'd contacted Replacements to see if they might want to make an offer on the 6 Viking diamond & thumbprint water goblets in amethyst. Turns out that "due to infrequent demands, they cannot make an offer at this time". So ebay it is, I guess. I did ask, and would like any opinion y'all might have, whether it would be better to picture one or two and say there are 6 available, or just pair them up, or ????

  • Hi guys. I have a wine stem (I think) dating to about the 20's. It's cranberry on a clear stem, very good glass, and engraved on it are the words The Ansonia, below that, a lion rampant standing on another lion (standing in shield), with a banner below that that says Spectemur Agendo (which means "let us be judged by our actions"). The Ansonia, I suspect, refers to the famed historic New York building at the corner of 73 and Broadway, which was comprised of residential apartments, as well as restaurants and tea rooms back in the day. Do you think this might have been swiped from one of the restaurants? I know the glass is good with plenty of lead content, and since the items that came out of that Phila. family's packing barrels were things like Steuben Rosaline (took years to find out what that was) and other glass plates, gold trimmed, with ground bottoms that I always suspected were Steuben as well, but no marks, of course - - plus old silver and so forth. The barrels were stored here in WY at my dad's freight depot, having been sent back in the 30's and storage never having been paid at all. In the 1950s my mom opened them since the warehouse was about to be razed because it had deteriorated. Imagine her shock at the wonderful things inside! Anyway, I'll post a couple of pix and if you can give me any assessment as to possible worth, as well as what type glass it is, I'd appreciate it. The glass stands 4 3/4" tall and across the top is 2 1/2".

  • Kelli, so that person is now the Frank Reardon of ebay - banned! lol (in case you don't know who that is, here's a little commercial for Kayak. I love it!

    http://www.bestads.tv/view/6331/kayak-frank-reardon/

  • Kelli, if that's the one in the link mbk or whatever, why in the world ebay allowed that idiot to continue on as long as he had is a true mystery. But ebay comes down firmly on the side of the buyer most of the time against us fly-by-night dishonest sellers.

  • Hi. I just contacted Replacements about my 6 Viking Amethyst water goblets in the Dia. Thumbprint pattern. Probably I won’t like their offer, but I checked and it looks as if Viking isn’t doing well on ebay right now. Rep. wants something like $17 for a wine in the same pattern but in blue, not the amethyst. I believe they had a goblet or two last month and wanted $24 or so. I assume they’ll low-ball me beyond belief and then I’ll have to list them on ebay, but should I offer pairs or state that I have 6 (4 with the stickers, 2 without) and quote a price per goblet? I haven’t usually had 6 of an item and I’m really unsure how best to proceed? TIA. Paula

Not long back, when I first bought these, I did hear from Oklahoma Song, but I hadn't gotten around to doing anything with these.

  • Ewww, and sorry for the typos. I had to hook up this new keyboard and I hate the thing. It's flat and I'm hitting two keys instead of one a lot.

  • Hi, Gail. At first I couldn't log in here, so went to the "old" Glassie hangout. If anyohe does know what the viking amethyst color Diamond Thumbprint goblets might be worth, would you let me know? I bought 6 the other day - a coupld have the Viking stickers and they're 6 1/2" in height. I'll probably ebay them if I can figure out whether to offer the group, or a pair, or what - and, of course a starting point!

You can see what they look like here (enlarge the pic on the left) - but they have none in stock at Replacements....can't seem to find them in this color to give me a sense of whether I did well or not!!
