Bob--My laptop won't charge until it drops below 96%. I leave mine plugged in except when I take it downstairs to print something. If I unplug it for 5 or 10 minutes it will say 98 or 99% and not charging. You should run it down to 6% at least once every few months according to my manual, but you don't have to run it down every time.
My last laptop got to where it wouldn't charge past 98%, then 97%, and it kept creeping down to where it would only take 90%. I bought a new battery, but I really don't think it's worth worrying about if you keep it plugged in most of the time.
