Regarding herds of deer - they usually don't gather together in large groups until later in the winter around here although in one hunting season in Wisconsin (about November 24, 1977 or so), I had a group of well over 50 go past me - I actually heard them coming before I could see them. They were too far away for chancing a shot - or for seeing antlers - so I just enjoyed the sight. And that was always the best part of hunting for me anyway.
