Forgot to mention I was doing a very happy dance last night . My Biscuit tin ended very well.

He used to buy it at an agriculture store,mixed it with water in a big tub and would soak all the very old brass(which had gone very very black) tools in it for a few days. I don't know the ratio of molasses to water. But I do know that if its too strong or you leave the items in for too long, they will be eaten away. I remember the trials and errors when he first started using it. LOL I tell you what!!! it worked well with getting all that gunk off them. Then with Very fine steal wool and a wash under the tap, a bit of a buff with some metal polish and they would shine like new.No hard scrubbing and polishing
