@gailmacphee : You're so right. It was once so much fun & we loved every minute of it. Some of my fondest memories involve the anticipation and the thrill of the hunt. Back in the 70's, 80's & even into the 90's, you LOVED getting up early & hitting the road to find treasures. All the while that you were driving to the flea or show, the adrenalin flowed in anticipation of what you were going to find. Notice that I said "WHAT" you were going to find. The question of "IF you were going to find anything never entered into it, because good, saleable, quality items were abundant then & you KNEW you were going to come home with stuff. You could pick & choose what to buy. You were really only limited by how much you could afford to spend.

That aspect of the business is all but gone now. You can go out now & hunt for days, see nothing but cheap, worthless, crud and come home empty handed. In the process you burned up $100. worth of gas or more. You find yourself thinking as you head out on a buying jaunt, "Boy, I sure hope this will be worthwhile". That eager anticipation, that adrenalin flow, that excitement, isn't there anymore. A lot of the fun of the antiques business is gone now.
