Katie, I'm no expert, but from what I've heard a good time is to wait until after they've bloomed. Late summer, early fall here in California. I don't know what part of the country you live, so it may different for where you live. I actually joined the Iris Society here for a year. Alot of the members were breeders. What incredible gardens they had. I have alot of irises I won there, that have not bloomed yet, so it'll be fun to see what pops up. The iris I bought the vase I showed a while ago is I believe calle 'Sultan', though it had no name when I got it. Then this year I got a ruffled variation of Sultan in the garden that I never saw before. I'm going to post a couple of pics. The puple orange one, a late bloomer, is one of my favorites, I don't know what thats called either.
