Hi all,

I've been remiss in posting. Super hot and humid (for us), in August, which makes me practically brain dead. Wedding of good friend, a past student, which was probably the nicest most relaxed, fun wedding I have ever been to. Took a fall ('cause feet legs don't work right since accident 5 1/2+ yeas ago) and broke two adhesions loose, which was a good thing.
Just got back from Illinois orthopedist and chiropractor, plus took Mom back at same time. Ortho gave me something to try something for the neuropathy from accident. Have gotten some feeling back with time, from healing/regeneration/or whatever, so we'll see what this new stuff does.
There was a pet show at Mom's retirement home just after we got down so entered Teddy. It was hot. It got hotter as week went on. Car’s rear view mirror thermometer showed 99 on Tuesday and heat index was over 100. Close to that high most of week. Of course the cool down came the day I left. lol Last night is was 42 here at home.

More later, or as I like to say News at 11!

Find yourself a dark area and "LOOK UP" Peak actually Monday AM a bit before dawn (forgot exactly how much before dawn would be peak) but should be pretty good for a few more days. I never make the "before dawn" watch.

I went out last night, with a friend, just after dark... 9 ish ..... and saw 2 small ones right away. Overall I saw at least 10-12 (stopped counting) in about 20-30 minutes. Friend saw some that I missed. There were three, count'm THREE , awesome ones with long, fat tails. Hope I am more awake tonight.

My lessons are almost done. Been crazy every day for weeks. Not any real trail rides but still hanging on. Back /legs have been spasing a lot but I am managing...just not typing. Teddy was lost for 1 1/2 hours last week and I was freaked out. More later if fingers oblige.

Hi everyone Thought I should check in . Got back from Illinois doctor visits two weeks ago tomorrow. Had three appointments, but one was cancelled as roads were closed with flooding. A first for me.
Came back with Mom. She is in her own house just 600 feet down the road. My niece and her DH will will be there most of summer. Niece's DH is fireman and save his OT up all year so he can fish most of summer. Niece comes on weekends and vacation days so some one is usually sleeping in house. I am back and forth from my house, barn and Mom's.

I am spending more time outside no and not so much on computer. Much outdoor work needs doing, which is still taking much more time than pre-accident, and I can only do in little increments, if at all. Still trying to find some strong help but every one is busy this time of year so no luck yet. Really need someone to weed whip.

Have found plenty of hay (he has 2000 bales and I have 33 in barn now) and need to decide how much of it I should get. I need about 2000 for winter. It is first crop, pretty well cured, nice grass hay but not as high protein as I like. I really like to feed second crop but do not know if we will get second crop or how good it might be.

Lessons have started, have had no trail rides yet and just a couple of pony rides.

Have read and tried to keep up. Hugs and good thoughts for those with issues. Congrats and "Happy's" for those with B-days and milestones. Commiserating with those who have had setbacks.

Morning everyone.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!, to all the Mom’s out there.

I got back late Friday night from Illinois doctor trip. It has been down to 32 and have seen snow flakes since getting home. Friends 40 miles to north across the water had quarter size flakes yesterday. The mid-lake bouy is back in the water for the season. It is showing 35+ mph wind gusts and steady of about 30 mph. I like the readings off of that weather station the best ( for wind) as there is no blocking air flow from land or trees. I get temps locally.
It was a bit hectic before I lef,t with Teddy vet, packing and computer issues before leaving. I have a very reasonable vet. Bill was $30 total of which $22 was his bordetella vaccine, and he also scaled his teeth, clipped nails and looked at a bump on his chest. Bump should just be a fatty thing, but I will keep watch.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! DON re: “What do you call that stuff that falls from the sky and is wet like water? We had maybe .5” This is the first ”significant” amount that has fallen since I think like August!”
Up here, we call the getting spit on by Mother Nature. Hopefully both you and I will get some decent rainfall this year.

KATIE – Your necklace looks to be Zuni style but I don’t think the quality is there to be real. The Turquoise chunks look (to me) to be that dyed stone, Howlite maybe. They look too shiny and too veined from the picks. The birds, also, have a funny look to them.

CARL – Cool about your train shop. I get that feeling when I go in a new harness/saddle shop for the first time.

Morning everyone

Well, we hit 60 on Sat and 70 on Sun. Still have much ice on north side of barn. Snow piles almost gone. Grass just tinged with green. No real growth yet.
Entrance Daffys (driveway/road lots of sun) just popped green shoots on Thursday through snow piles. I noticed buds yesterday. The ones around the new septic area are starting to break through.

Got a green glass pitcher at the dump Saturday and a milk-glass 'something'. The something is about 7" across 2" or so high, dish only no lid, does have some sort of pattern. Will try to tell today whether they are old or not. Also white Pfalsgraf (sp?) took 4 each big plate, luncheon or salad and cup/mug. OH! and about 8 or 9 Revere lids from small to ten inch or so but do not know what happened to the pans.

CARL – Finally had chance to look at your pics. Love the beaver lodge. There was a dam too? (lost that link) And the moose and the trees and brush and, and…. Bridge is very cool, too. The use of scrap is way cool too.

Hi everyone

Be sure to check out Google's Doodle today. Multifaceted layers. Goes through seasons, moon phase, sunrises sunsets, rain etc. Only flaw I sw wa they had the snow appear in the spring rather than winter. Plus, things happen when you click the hand in certain areas.

SUZY /okcoolwheels - your glass may be a juice glass or ice and a shot glass like a small 'tub' as I call them., like an Old Fashion glass, short and fat.. I used to sell housewares in the 60's. Many sets ( AK, Libby, etc) had a small glass about that size. Don't know the age of yours but seems reasonable that that size would have been around for a long time.

GAIL/oklahomasong - Thanks for telling how to get a better pic link. Other way is to copy the "direct" link url, then paste into notepad and put a small "o" , not zero, just after the // at end of www. I do that as it comes up WAAAY before the pic appears. You have to put the link in something that won't carry the hidden properties of the tiny pic link though, other wise it reverts to the long url.

Afternoon everyone

Snowing here. Flurry-esque, much space between flakes but blowing a gale.

We had that heavy wet snow last week along with several power outages in a 2-3 day period. Would just get everything reset ( after allowing time for it to stabilize) and it would go out again.

MAINEWILDROSE - At least they know who they are looking for. Caught a bit on noon news but you guys alerted me to go look. Have always said if it weren't for the boards I would not know what was happening in the world.

CARL - My dial-up has been at 28kbps (or less) and not conducive for looking at pics. Will do so soon. I love trains. Model and full size.

That reminds me.
TinyPic is doing something different, and I think sneaky, in their URL's which takes them longer to load than they should. Something imbedded??? If they are doing that the question is why??
I have a fix and will tell all soon when I can type a bit better.

Hi Glass board.

Back from Illinois doctor. Was delayed a day due to snow that hit on Monday. Wasn’t so much the snow but the wind. The system when right up the path I needed to travel. I have been on that Interstate in snow and wind, in the past, and had no desire to repeat the experience. On that trip I was already at point of no return, when it hit, and it took 3+ hours to travel a normal one hour route. It is not fun to only be able to see the inside of your windshield.
Was lucky to changed motel and ferry reservations and got home Wednesday PM. Got the last place on boat for Wed. Had less time for grocery shopping and ended up forgetting a lot of items. Oh well.

Sorry I was bad about posting the last 2 1/2 months. Got back on NY day in Jan and then got a muscle spasm. Was not up to snuff for a couple of months. Only post on the Book board once I think.
I did try to keep up with reading sporadically. Love watching the progression of the Rail Road CARL..

For the first time, since Mom moved in 4+ years ago, I hit a half price sale in the home’s thrift shop. I usually just miss the sales. Think they only do it two times a year.

Found a nice crock, good size, that looks like it will be perfect for utensils. I’m using a plastic cup now and it keeps falling over. It is oatmeal color with two ( I think) blue bands. Was surprised later when studying it that it is Roseville. It was only $2.

In the book area I got a nice older Courier and Ives book. It has some color plates and lots of b/w. It is just for me, as I found it interesting.

Saw much nice glass and wished I had more $$$ and time to research.
Saw a heavy glass vase that I liked, interesting shape, 18” or so high almost hour-glass shape but the top curved in and it had a scalloped edge. .Also had what I think is wheel cut pattern trying to learn) only $17,
A set of 8 stemmed sherbets? only about $17 also. About 4-5” across top with flat bottom, compote shape with cranberry down and inch or so from lip.Had pattern in glass to. Not sure what type the color process is called, but it looked to be fired or melted on. Not like a paint on top of the glass.
Many, many other nice pieces.
Almost bought a modern bud vase. Heavy crystal, like a block of glass with hole drilled down center and a simple cut pattern on one side that was like grass slightly blowing in a breeze. It had a small scratch and money was tight so I just said ”no”. It was only $4 at half price. Wish I had had more time to decide.

Morning

I set alarm for 4:55AM so I could listen to the farm report on WGN radio. They were going to talk about the horse slaughter issue. I know many do not like the idea, BUT, being a horse lover and ownerI know that it is a very necessary need.
Since the ban in 2006 (?) the horse has been the loser. The ban led to cheap prices for horses which led many to be purchased by people who do not have the money or know how to keep, them leading to a myriad of issues including starvation and neglect. And that is only one small part of the whole picture.
One can not 'save' all horses, nor all animals in general..

Now listening to the Mr. Fix-it show on WGN radio. It is a great show for do-it-yourselfers. You can listen on the computer too! I put my own wood floor down with advice from Lou, Mr. Fix-it

CARL - Thanks for your storm report. I do not have good "real" TV ( I dvr off my Mom's summer house dish then transfer to VCR tape for me to watch at my house) since the digital switch so have seen no coverage.
Also, really enjoy looking at you train layout/progress photos and hoping you will continue to show the progress. I always wanted a train set.

Happy Holidays to all!

All times when fingers were 'typing able' I was working on buttoning up farm for winter, off to chiro, no or bad internet connection and sometimes just in a general funk. Had a whopping 10Kbps for a while but was too hard to connect. that went on for a week or two. Had a few power failures also. I swear each time that I had time anf had good fingers the computer had issues. I KNOW! It's a conspiracy. LOL Had a really good adjustment in November but it is the nature of the injury for thigs to slip out again.

BOOK BOARD

DIANE/FURTIMA hope you heal fast.

MIM Hope DH improves quickly.

GLASS BOARD

See some have had issues here too. Hope all get through them.

I will try to not be a stranger in future. Have to finish packing I am heading to Illinois and chiro, again, in less then two hours. Good winter driving today, so '"they" say. New used suburan handles pretty well in the ice and snow that I have had here. We only got about 3 inches of snow because we were so warm it rained for much of the storm, Trade off is I now have skating rink under snow. We still had the 50 plus MPH winds and had no boats running on Friday.

Hi everyone!

Played catch-up after I got back with the"new" 12 year old car in early June. Then, I started lessons plus hired muscle was here a few times to fix fence, etc. Then was off to Illinois again for Dr appoint and It was 95 to 100 plus the 5 days I was there. Yuck. But it was less humid than what awaited me at home.
Got very loose bridged 4 tooth crown re-cemented. Was worried it could not be done but it came totally out at dentist and is very solid now. Whew. He also touched up the one I cracked in half in March, when I fell, and that now is very solid (or as solid as it will every be). I like to say he did some tuck-pointing. LOL

Brought Mom back with me this trip. She is in her house down the road and will stay till just after Labor Day this year. She is managing to cook on the gas stove. She was afraid that she would not be able to see the flame. She cooks all the time at home ( in Illinois) but has electric in the retirement home.

The car did well on it's first trip. A/C work very well. Still do not know how big the gas tank is. still testing how much MPH I am getting. Used cheap ethanol gas. Have not done a good test with ethanol free super, yet. Getting used to new nooks and crannies and where to put what but have misplaced my check book. It is an a box somewhere that I used when stuff I transferred from old car to new. Getting used to the icky leather seat and have on gotten stuck to then one time so far., Teddy slides on them, my sheep skin slides off them and everthing on the center console surfaces slide too. Will figure it out eventually.

We have had bad heat here but not as bad as some others. It was 98 heat index today Dew points close to 80, close to 90 actual temp. I did no trail rides today and tomorrow do think I will even be open. It is to be the hottest tomorrow and then cool into the low 80's. Ha pretty funny for me to say "cool into the low 80's" . I don't like it much over 65 or 70 and hate humidity.

The fire works will start soon and I will go to the top of hill to watch, when I hear the first one go bang.

Morning!

Busy on farm. Had just enough $$ from thre Pony Rides to pay muscle to fix some and move some fence. Then in the space of about 5 hours on Wednesday. Harvey, finally, got my new starter in the mower, I used the skidsteer for quite a while till it started going eEER..Errr, eEER..Errr, eEER..Errr ....Then dawns on me it was low on fuel. My fuel guage is broken. Put more in and was OK for about 20-30 minutes then the same. Diesel guy thinks I sucked crud from bottom of tank so waiting for parts ( fuel filter) and guy to fix. SO...I went to mow. Got about 150 feet and my mower went POOF with huge cloud of white smoke and shut off. Blown engine??? Waiting for verdict on that.
Then....The horses got out of new fence repaired area. Did not go anywhere and came right in but they were not in the field where they should have been.

Had two trail rides on Thursday. Just enough $$ to pay for the starter (for mower that went poof) and part of the fuel filter. As friend said to me "if it weren't for bad luck I would have no luck at all. lol

Have a new student ( just four 4 lessons) who will come today for first one.

HELEN / BEADS! - Suppose you have googled already. It has been reprinted and is also in google books. found one listing in addall. They say original binding was cloth with gilt. Do you have a special edition??? worth even more??? That would be cool if so.

From Addall listed at $656 U.S. dollars
"London 1901. 8vo. Orig. cloth. Gilt. (x,416,4pp.). With portr., numerous full-page plates, text-illusts, and 2 col. folding maps. Scarce. A fine 1901 inscription on front fly-leaf, as well as an original photograph portrait of the author tipped-in on verso of title-page. Scarce. "

Hi everyone

Was supposed to leave today to go get the new used suburban. I did not get the new title and plates till last week. Hope I do not forget to take them. It is the GMC version. rather than the Chevy, so is now called a Yukon XL. Will most likely contiune to call it a Suburban as I will probably never get used to saying Yukon XL. LOL

Planning on selling car by the pound so putting as much of my scrap iron and tin inside as I can.
Will sell my #2 insulated wire separately. Have about 40-50 pounds of that and it is at about $2 a pound now.

If a miracle happens, and I sell the Burb to someone to drive, I could get about $950 to $1000. Will not have a lot of time for that kind of sale. Poundage is the easiest.

A friends SIL had a return to hospital after his open heart surgery started to leak blood into the pericardium. That surgery was done at major heart hospital in Midwest.
Personally do not think his home hospital, 400 miles away, did a good job of monitoring his Cumadin levels post surgery. They have a history of checking but then not adjusting levels on other meds.
Repair surgery was NOT done at his home hospital. They went to a very good, about a hundred miles away, facility.

Teddy has continued to learn. He almost heels like a proper obedience dog often with an automatic sit and also will wait for direction before getting a thrown stick. I can alternate between 'play' fetch and obedience fetch based on which words I use. Stay and take it for obedience and just a 'go get it' (or some such) for play.

Finally got the resident raccoon out of the tack room and then left the door open all night and it was back inside today. Ugh.

GLASS

NANCY P - My condolences to you and your family

GLASS USA /BOB - Cool idea on using the blanket to keep the glass stable..

GAIL - Thanks for the heads up on that auction of custard glass dish. It was fun to watch it.

SHELLY - So nice to see you back posting

GLASS*USA BOB I am not a glass pro but I will give my 2 cents.

IMO Your glass cat face plate does not have the detail one would think of in early glass pieces. I blew up the pics of the old one and yours and yours look very basic. Lack of detail on nose especially. Almost as if the nose could double as nose of bear or dog or even human.

The color of the glass reminds me of the "new" (exploding) Pyrex which has a strong bluish hue

Hi Everyone - Just kind of lying low. A bit of a bug came back with me from Illinois and lots to do outside in between debugging myself.

SUZY - Looked at the Jadite Mug auction. Cool. Sent it to a friend too. When she saw it she exclaimed "that is our Penny jug!" He Mom kept change in that same mug. She said it looked just the same and had the raised pattern. It is long gone now though.

Anyway I had to look up Philbe on ebay and just watched this one end.

Jumped 60 bucks in the last second.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-UNUSED-SET-3-FIRE-KING-JADE-ITE-PHILBE-REFRIGERATOR-JARS-IN-ORIGINAL-BOX-/221021715378?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3375ebbbb2&autorefresh=true

It was fun to see a couple of real auctions. We used to watch on the Book Board when there was a good one ending.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Back from Illinois doc. Much relief for now. Took Mom a huge bunch of daffodils and a few forsythia, She loved them. We did power errands and finally found the right color and weight of denim jeans for her. Got her new new digital box from Comcast and true to my seeming to be ever present Murphy's law syndrome, it was defective. She is now waitning for new one to arrive and I hope my NC sister ( who is visiting Mom now) can change the cords.

Found some decent "free on side of road" stuff. Sold $80 worth comprising of a14 foot round rung wood ladder, clay flower pots, pressed back arm chair, pair of modern lamps with shades, really cool 'beads' (marble? Agro-agate?) which are like large bead-like ovally things on an old lamp part and finally the hardware off of an art deco waterfall dressing table. Also got a $20 finders fee for guarding art deco mirror from garbage trucks.
I got for me about 8 big Fieldcrest towels...the really thick ones, many storage containers, a kids puppet show stage, a big kids easel two sided with dry erase and chalk board including the chalk and paint, an older maple plant stand with nice lines (it does have a crack in the top which I think can be fixed) two 8" 4x4 posts, and a sled which I use to haul stuff around the farm and a tall 18 inch or so by 6-7 inches across, straight sided clear crystal vase and other stuff which escapes me now. Did not pick as much as some years. Only really got to do one section and that was a fairly brief hunt.

Well I am now going to Illinois tomorrow. Watched the radar and the lightning site to see if there would be a hole but it was pretty nasty so decided to wait. It is clearing down south now but it is too late today.

Found the file cabinet I was looking for and no title so have one more place to check or I will have to shell out $$ for replacement.
The little file cabinet I was looking for was not buried in the place I thought it was. Must have changed plan and left it at Mom's summer house. Founds it in my old cabin. My Nephew or BIL must have put it there for me but, as I did not do the moving, I had no memory. Therefore I must have the the title out of that file and put it in a "safe" place, somewhere in my house.
Drawback to old concussion issues is that some memories are not there. Title location being one of them.

SUZY, MARSON - Glad to be able impart some info, after all the info that I have gleaned from all of you.

SUZY if you have Mozilla Firefox there is a way to put the + sign on your mozilla tool bar and just hit it.
I just use that button but told you other way as it would work for anyone with a pc. I had to set up the + and - in my tool bar. I only found it because the new firefox did not have the stop button showing, and I use that a LOT.
Someone had to walk me through how to get the stop button showing and I found the short cut the + and - buttons in that menu choice. On dial up one needs to stop slow loading pages fairly often....at least I do.

Oh... Sort of remember. Right click on menu bar and make and 'add-on' tool bar then do same thing but choose "customize" and drag choices to new tool bar.

Bill - I like my way because I do not have to go to a drop down thing and can just watch the size change. Also I did not find a zoom under my tools heading.

DON / BILL - Do you know how to make pics (and print) bigger? Use the Control and the Plus sign key together, on a PC. Mac should have similar feature. Each time you hit the combo it will increase the size of pic.
I took your little table set pic from about 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches, to about 4 x 4 inches.
Some detail gets fuzzed but other features get better.

Morning -

I am off to Illinois to chiropractor today ,,,gone till Friday or so.

Finally got title to new used car, but not soon enought to get licencesd and swapped with old one before trip.
His credit union delay transferring $$, which delayed title co. sending title. Spent hours on phone with my state DMN, the seller, his credit union, and in person our police dept which now has plates. ugh
In bewtween that and normal stuff, Mom's Comcast TV cable co. messed with her service by switching to digital and sho woke up early almost two weeks ago, with no TV, so have spent hours on phone with Comcast trying to learn new system so I can explain it to her.

If anyone has Comcast, beware, they are changing system so you can not program your own equiopment to change channels. You will have to chnage a channel on an adapteter box. Was told it was like a digital converter but turns our it is a decoder as they say even a digital TV or DVR will not work with it. What a pain.

Now hear flash flood warning for Northern Illinois this PM. Debating if I want to drive in storms or not.

First, Belated Birthday greetings to all whom I missed. By the time I read and had time, I was to poopped to post.

TOBY - Loved your new cabinet pictures. The blue is to die for.

DON - Had the same problem when vacuuming yesterday. I tracj sandy dirt in from farm and it sits on floor at edges of path.
Isn't a main purpose of glass cabinets to keep dust out? Makes we wonder if there is some way to seal them.
I have a small wall hung which keeps dust out and a tall narrow ( ex Cognac display) lighted cabintet from liquor store which has a little dust (just looked) but I have Not touched it in ten years.

SHELLY - Hope you are healing well. Know you check Pottery And Glass so putting it in both.

REEN - I was wondering about cake to. Thanks for sharing.

MORNING! 33 degrees last night but no snow

MIM - How nice to see you. I have been gone but heard that you were under the weather. Glad you are on the mend.

IRENE M - Would think if you had heard of a med that might cause problems it would be nice to share what it is. Might help prevent a problem for someone else.

BTW anyone - Heard this morning about nickel allergy being caused by food is a new thing being discovered. It was on the CBS morning show today One can google to find more.

Also, have been seeing ads for class action suits re: tylenol and liver failure . Again google for more info. I won't have tylenol ( acetaminophen) in my house or take anything ( knowingly) with it in it.. Sister had a friend loose her liver to it and she did not drink either. It is just one of those things that you don't know when it will kill you.

Just like dogs and chocolate. Might not bother some dogs in even large amounts but a tiny bit could kill another dog.

I found a drug site a couple of years ago...you have to really hunt to find it...FDA I thing drug trial results. There are sooo many drugs that have a 2-5 % chance of death that have been approved. Personally I do not want to play russian roulette.

SHELLY - I got a glass rolling pin ( that holds ice water for candy I think, or for making pie crust?) a few years ago at the SOR store ( that is free on the side of road store - LOL) Then had to find one for Mom to use, she then found her's (misplaced in the move) and told me to keep that one. So had I had two. Then found a couple here and there that were older and different or red handles or, or. I think I have five maybe.
In gathering rolling pins discovered that the new ones are expensive for good ones and not as well made as older ones. SO...pick them up if free and if I find some one who need one I pass it on.
AND I do have an iron wine rack like is shown in the estate sale pics.

Cool on the marble one. That must be for candy right?

LAINEY - Stunning candy dish. Very interesting to read about the making process in the worthpoint link.
I knew gold could make red glass ( from when I collected Ruby glass but never considered that a little gold ( or less heat?) would make pinkish glass.

In general

When I was in MI last week, at my friends, I got to tour the old house that is on the property.
Empty for about 20 years or so but several things were left. One...wish I had a picture.. was a little berry bow? Ice cream dish? round low simple curved edge, clear ( with hint of purple from sun) very thick glass ( reminded me of something I have seen) Maybe a simplified lotus shape? Anyway a nice litte piece.
There were also some books childrens reader going back to mid 1800's. Not molded yet also some nice real wood furniture. Two pairs of chairs, a bench mahogany or maybe cherry. Did not go up stair or into the basement.
