Marson posted an update: Frost on the ground this morning but it's nice outside. […]

Frost on the ground this morning but it's nice outside. Can go out without the winter jackets or puffies. The tulip leaves are sprouting & the rest of the grass is brown but I do see spurts of the daisy leaves on the ground. Sparrows, flickers and robins have been picking at whatever they peck on between the grass blades. Neighbours cat & the wandering neighbourhood cat is joining the hunt. Next door the family has two dogs (yelpers) that go for a "walk" - a young kid riding his bike around and the dogs chase him getting their excercise. The other dog goes with the family on their daily walk. Another one pretends it is being trained but the walker lets it do its' business & doesn't pick up after it. The dogs act according to their training. A moving sale is happening on the weekend. May go to see what's there & what kind of prices will be asked for. Things slowed down at the thrift store. Maybe with the change in weather, people will downsize or go through their closets & check what still fits. After hibernating like bears, we may have a few extra pounds. Have a great & wonderful day. Marson

Shelly - {{hugs}} and sympathy to you - sorry to hear that your sister passed away.
Katie - good to see you back & hope you're feeling better. Getting used to being alone and cooking for one can take some adjusting.
Nancy - nice to know you're keeping the birds well-fed & chirping and probably showing you their antics.
Carl is probably having the type of weather we get here. Quite alot of snow, minus zero temperatures & horribly windy. Highways have been closed, schools & buses cancelled, etc. etc. Miserable to be out there and the people living on the streets (we've started giving them all kinds of names) homeless/unsheltered/unhoused - are having a hard time out there.
Julie - keeping busy as usual? The weather there has been much warmer than what we have but I'm sure it gets too hot for comfort as well.

Did my stint at the thrift store. It's still cold out there, so winter boots, jacket/coat, with a hood or hat, scarf & mitts - gets you from the house to the car. Then sunglasses because of the glare of the sun on the snow. But that's a huge part of Canada that a certain president wants to take-over. Other then that, it's a Good Day and may the glassies enjoy it. Marson

We've had extremely cold weather last week. Today it's very cold, still in the below zero temp. One man wanted to make money last week so he shovelled my snow. Told him to wait till today when the weather would be warmer but he said he needed the money. Done in about 5 min. mainly pushing it to the road (although the city frowns on that). May go out later & shovel the snow off the deck. It gets dark around 4:30 so Hannukah and Lightts are welcome. Did a quick stint at the thrift store, usually spend an extra hour their but my driver had a funeral to go to.

Wishing all the glassies a good day especially our birthday gal Shelley. Marson

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Another year has passed and I'm still a chocoholic and slicing off a hefty portion of that birthday cake. We've had a colourful fall like the picture Carl posted. However, now it's cool and raining for a few days with more in the forecast. Rather dreary. Garage sale season was ??? less sales and not such a great selection of items. But, do you "need" anything? No, but it was nice just to get out. Still volunteering and picking up the odd item there. Also remember the old gang (not necessarily in years but the ones from the past ... nostalgia seems to creep in more often now). Wishing the glassies a good day too or g'day. Marson

It's a bright sunny warm day ... usually it would be much cooler at this time of the year. However, there are alot of red, yellow & rust coloured leaves all over the ground as well as fallen acorns which can make walking a little cautious. Do the squirrels & chipmunks know something we don't.

Had to re-sign to get on but couldn't figure out the new method so I found an old post and did it all backwards. One step forward, two steps back but still forging on.

Hope you had a wonderful birthday Nancy. We celebrate the whole month long 🙂

Carl have you finished gathering your produce and pickling & canning? How was Marleys wedding? Any pictures (we like to see the dresses, etc.)

Good to see you Fran .. hope all is well with you & Julie are you travelling or relaxing.
No garden here but friends have shared their produce with me ... life is good.

Will check to see the full moon again ... it's so bright but not quite at its' peak when we see the harvest moon but still a wonder to see. Have a great day glassies. Marson

No winds but brutally cold today - schools closed (no bus transportation for students). My driver from 30 miles away decided it's too cold to go out and do our thrift store stint , will do that tomorrow if the weather co-operates. You can freeze your extremeties in a few minutes (went out for about 3 min. & shovelled off some scrunched up snow by the door & that was it -- fingers were getting cold despite the lined gloves). It is winter after all. 🙂 Marson

survived our snowstorm/blizzard ... as usual, people have been told to stay home - the high winds caused whiteout conditions with very low visibility - especially on the highways with quite a few of them closed. needless to say, people ventured out - had 20 car & 50 vehicle accidents/pile-ups, a few people hospitalized and one death. I couldn't see the apartment building behind my yard when the wind blew the snow & obliterated the apartment as the colours blended it. I stayed indoors & watched ... it would be bright & shiny for a while and then no visibility as the winds picked up - would alternated all day. It's also bitterly cold. My neighbour went out the next day and cleared my driveway. Thank God for good neighbours & snowblowers. Need to clear off my deck but it won't warm up till Wed. (that is if you call -12 warmer).

Katie - many hugs to you and Mike. Remember to get respite care for youself so you can rest & refresh yourself as well. Much peace and strength as you go through this.

All the best to the glassies as well. Stay safe. Marson

Julie, thank you for remembering that baking that colourful birthday cake - looks like the various colours of the fall leaves all around. The Book Board has a page called "In Memoriam" which our webmaster set up. Perhaps he'd make one for us if we asked him and provided the information needed.

Seems like alot has been going on in peoples live but we don't often post but do read the board. We've had warmer than usual weather and this comes along with other changes .... had one day or LOTS of rain which also resulted in a tornado warning in our area which is unusual. Hunker downed in a clothes closet (no cellar but a nasty crawl space) for about 15 minutes till it passed by. Many roads & homes were flooded but not as much as down in the states. We are very fortunate. Had my yard cleaned up & transplanted my snapdragons into a planter. They're supposed to be annuals but this is their third year & noticed that the dianthus also self-seeded along with a few daisies. The daylilies & peonies are perennials so it's just a matter of dividing & transplanting.

Next week it will be time to change our clocks, give out treats at Haloween, & remember it's 2 months till Christmas. In Canada we've already celebrated Thanksgiving Day but yours is still coming up.Wishing everyone a wonderful day.

Julie, Fran, Katie, Carl, Nancy, and all the silent people in the gallery. Have a wonderful day. Marson

So sad to see another one of the old times like Dori pass away.

We've been having a wonderful fall - much warmer than usual. Only one frost so far & my snapdragons from last year, self-seeded & a few are still blooming as well as the dianthus.
Trimmed them down for next year and dug up some plants aka weeds by the front entrance.
That way it's easier to clear when the snow comes. Yes, I said that word, as it's being bantered around for this weekend and it's starting to cool off. Time to bring out the winter clothes which are never that far away to begin with. All the best, stay safe & warm. Marson

I usually "push & flip" - only lift the light snow - either use a scoop or shovel depending on the amount & type of snow. The deck is just " push off the deck".
It's warmer than I thought it would be, so after lunch I'll get fresh air & exercise. Marson

My driveway was shovelled, not much on the deck, but the roof has a fair amount. However, it's starting to snow and we're expecting it to turn into a storm as the day & evening progresses, so we'll have alot to shovel tomorrow morning. To make matters worse, it's changing into "daylight saving time" which will throw off our circadian rhythm which affects alot of people. Went to thrift stores & bought a few clothing items & boots and now I have to donate as many as I brought in -(one in, one out) at least that's how it should be. Haven't seen any glassware that might be worth purchasing, as I have more than enough already. Hard to believe that two and a half months have already flown by - they seem to go so quickly. Wishing the glassies all the best. Marson

I'm back againl We've been having such a mixture of weather: snow, sleet, slush, extreme cold, more snow, sleet, etc. The cold deters you from shovelling, the ice makes it dangerous to do so. if the snow is light, it's not too bad, however, if it's the wet stuff it's a pain to do so. Between snowblowers, shovels & front-end loaders, it gets done eventually. Best to stay indoors and just hunker down.
That's how it's been during Christmas, Channukah and Kwanza.

Noticed that Julie has been baking again, so I thought I'd join the glassies for a slice and to wish

Thank you Nancy for a word to the wise. They say that a large percentage of seniors falls are attributed to falling as a result of their slippers - either 'ill fitting' or (forgot the other reason), probably not having proper gripping. I put my Sketchers away because I got another pair or slippers.
They weren't quite as comfortable so I went back to the Sketchers & discovered that they either stretched or my feet shrunk and I've noticed that sometimes there is an issue with how they function. Thanks for the advice. Now to find another pair & toss the old ones. Marson of the snow

It's arrived - and I've shoveled it - the deck is cleared but we're expecting more rain/snow which turns into slush & ice. Have to be careful whether one is walking or driving. Managed to spread grass seed on Thursday despite the wind and with this layer of moisture, it should be a good start for spring.

Presently it's sunny and the town workers are repatching a pothole on the road in front of the house.
We're already had a bit of snow but fortunately it melted along with the sleet. It's been cold and I've worn a light winter jacket - we've been told there will be a few warm days so I'll pull out some of the flowers in front but see if a few plants overwinter. Alas, the geraniums don't make it unless I bring them in but even then they don't always make it. Picked up a parlor palm at the thrift store & then wondered where I'd put it. Left it in the garage for a few days and reconfigured by my other plants and voila! it's in the house. Started a few spider plants & dropped them off at the thrift store as they sell. Dropped off quite a few clothes for the giveaway and have six more pairs of pants & trench coat to go. Yes!!! Slowly but surely things are going out. Hope all the glassies are well & relaxed. Marson

They disappeared. We'll have to send out a search party. Probably enjoying the last days of summer, traveling, gardening, pickling, freezing, etc. There are beautiful aurora bourealis this week i.e. northern lights - that is if you're away from the city lights and on the outskirts of town or in the country, they're a sight to behold. A harvest moon coming up this Fri. and hopefully it will be clearly visible and shining.
Probably the last of the garage sales this weekend......there weren't many this year but for those who like to scavenge in the city, there's a Free giveway - whatever you put on the yard, or driveway, and has a FREE sign, is up for grabs. A lot of the country folk go there with pickup trucks and load them with furniture, appliances, plants and whatever else is there. I'll probably stay home and finish off my plants and try to downsize. Hope everyone is in good health & just busy. Marson
